I just read a translation of Prem Sumarag by a notorious nonSikh "expert" on Sikhism. Has anyone read this Prem Sumarag. What do you think of it? Any chance of expanding my knowledge of this through discussion.

From what I know (admittedly little), it's an anonymous granth probably written in the 19th century. Some parts are pretty controversial....

Isn't there a translation by Bhai Randhir Singh? Or am I mistaken.

Well the translation I read (of McLeods) was of Randhir Singh's Panjabi edition. Is this the Bhai Randhir Singh of AKJ fame?

what is the gist of this granth?
So, I have a request for all of you who have cut their kesh and beards and have the name "Singh". I put my hands together and ask, 'Please, become my brothers'. And only become my brothers if you think I'm good. If you think I'm a low-life then don't at all become my brothers. If you call me good, then you'll have to keep your kesh and beards, give up liquor and if you call me a low-life, I'll be quiet and sit down and leave you alone.

I would disagree. It is some sort of manual of ceremonies. Codes of conduct. The part I found most interesting was the political or statecraft section outlining how a ruler should rule.

The stuff i have on the prem sumarag granth is more on the khalsa from the pages i have, will have to get the book. The Mukat Marag Granth i thought was more to do with ceremonies and conduct
