Bhangra And Sikhi

Recommended Posts

wat is the point of bhangra? wat do u get from it?

when u dance to bhangra, listen to the types of songs u dance to. unless there shabads from guru granth sahib ji, i dont think they gonna be pro sikhi. but then again, i have never seen a person dancing to any shabads.

but the types of songs are like oh tu meri billo tey main teri billo. oh will u be my girlfreind and i love you. blah blah blah. assi jatt punjabi tey assi sharab bohat peene aan. we punjabi tey eh punjabi. its all a bunch of crap. this is where i think the whole punjabi pride stuff needs to get to be rid of. instead of saying we are punjabi and proud, i think we need to start saying we are sikh and proud. instead of having punjabi virsa, why not have sikhi virsa. then we would actually think twice before adding bhangra in our list of rehat maryada. our elders have done soo much for us and have laid down their lives for us. and it wasnt so we could go around doing bhangra and dancing to songs that are totally anti-gurmat.

so the answer to ur question is NO!

sorrry if i offended any of you bhangra captains out there, but this is just wat i feel.

If it is done as an exercise, it is like any other dance-sport (breakdance, etc)

If it is done with any of the 5 vikaars (Kaam, Krodh, Lobh, Moh and Ahankaar), its completely anti-Gurmat.

From a historical perspective, was any type of bhangra or giddha done during Guru Sahibaans time? (or any other type of dance popular with the common Punjabi folks then)
