Could some Sikh history scholar shed some light on the significance of Lohri(not Maghi) for Sikhs ?

Or is it one of those bahmanvaadi festivals which many Sikhs follow blindly ?

Fateh parwaan karro jiyo,

Lodhi does not have any religious significance for Sikhs. Its a seasonal festival and Lodhi time is supposed to be the coldest part of winter and post Lodhi the winter is supposed to ebb.

In Punjab the first Lodhi of newlyweds and 'boy child' are celebrated with gusto. Now in Punjab social organizations are demanding that the first Lodhi of the girl child also be celebrated like that of the boy child.

Lohri is Not a sikh festival NOR its a brhaman festival ... Its a cultural festivals of punjabis celebrated in the yaad of dulha bhati a rajput punjabi warrior who clashed with Akbar the mughal king and sundri and mundri two sisters he got married ... celebrating it or not doesnot make u a better or a less sikh ...

and its one of the two festivals (after rakhri) we discuss every year on sikhsangat  ...

OK ,If it is a cultural festival then why is the Indian media trying to show it as a "Sikh festival" .Sikhs doing bhangra and giddaa and singing songs and dancing around fire.

You are in India you know it all.

If you say even hindus are shown celebrating I will disagree with you because the same indian channels say that hindus are observing kumbh in haridwar.Actually the channels have succeeded in potraying lohri as a Sikh festival whereas Lohri has nothing to do with the Sikhism. At the same time Maghi has been completed ignored by the same media. No in India knows about 40 muktay and Muktsar. You may take it lightly and laugh but I consider this a very serious issue.

Indian media potrays as if Sikhs always do bhangra and giddaa when they are happy whereas there are other ways to express happiness.During each such festival they show a group of Sikh munday and kudiyaan doing giddaa and bhangra(which I hate).Has anyone seen any kharkoo do bhangra ?No ankhi person will do it.Some may say it is a matter of personal choice again I disagree .People tend to believe what is shown to them in the media .Sikhs need to behave in a dignified and self respecting way .

It is because of this non seriousness of some spineless Sikhs that we hear comments similar to the following on youtube :

"Sikhs are only good for doing bhangra and comedy .Forget Khalistan. You people can never get it"

It is for the same reason why Hindu MPs dont take Sardar Maan seriously when he speaks about serious matters in parliament and instead laugh at him.Look at the folowing video :
