generalisations about diet don't help... protein requirements are overstated in most body building circles ... Waheguru ji created such an intelligent vehicle for us to use in this life , it can create a lot of what it needs from other items in the diet ,

I suggest that people eat too much sugars and fats in the form of mithai, sweets, juices, soda and biscuits fried items such as samosey pakordey, pattorey, puri, nimkian , muttardian. Maas and egg eaters also ingest extra calories in degraded protein. Our bodies are developed over the centuries to be super efficient energy storage and use systems. Most of the bibian are getting skewed hormones through out of control blood sugar due to over reliance on shop bought items also too much 'special once in a long while' type items as listed above .,

Our native diet may have had ghee, makhan etc but it was grass/greens-fed so had loads of vitamin D and A and CLA which is important to keep one slim and healthy, yoghurt and lassi digestive health in a glass, saag I agree people over cook it it wilts in two minutes or less so if cooking from fresh cook the allan first then add palak stop cooking as soon it has wilted , if using other tougher greens cook them first then add palak, tardka cook seperate mix in and simmer to get flavours to mingle and always squeeze in a lemon worth of juice to help iron and mineral absorption.

Best oils to do tardka coconut, saron, proper homemade organic grassfed ghee...never use olive for tardka it gets to toxicity at the temps we cook at , sunflower is not so great either generates loads of free radicals and toxins . virgin olive oil is good for dressing cold salads or veggies. We need to eat a lot more fresh RAW veg and fruits , less canned stuff ,the real deal instead.Atta should be ancient grain which has less starch to protein examples einkorn, kamut or spelt. I'm constantly being asked what I feed the kids (15 year olds 6 foot 1 and 2still growing) (, 6year so tall so fits in size 9 years , 17 year old 6 foot)

variety is key ...and not getting hung up on kids not eating veg , you back down they will eat out of curiousity...mine regularly fight over the green veg steamed ...it not being enough .... weird really

ive noticed many vegetarian Sikhs are out of shape an most of the Sikhs on a vegetarian diet that are out of shape tend to have a low protein high carb diet

I think the gurdwaras need to change the system of langer and Sikhs need to catch up in terms of nutrition science

in the Punjabi diet we destroy most of the vegetables we eat by over cooking them then throwing fatty butter in

a lot of veggie dishes are just butter cause most the nutrition has bin destroyed to over cooking

roti and bread we eat way more carbs then we should

a healthy diet is high protein low carb

sad thing is most Sikhs aren't educated on what vegetables to eat and the amount they should be eating to get a high level of protein

a vegetarian has to eat far far far more then someone who eats meat to get the protein requirements for building muscle

vegan athletes are always eating every hour their snacking on something to get that protein need met but benefits are is their muscles recover a lot faster then they did when just relying on meat for protein

if the youth started getting the gurdwaras to change their langer to better healthy eating with vegetarian and fruit dishes and teaching people how to have a high protein low fat low carb diet from being a vegetarian would this have an impact in destroying the DIABITIES epidemic in the Sikh community and also help produce stronger healthier Sikhs and even more Sikh athletes

if you took 100 random singhs you know and put them in a room how many of them would look like strong built cut athletes with a high muscle low fat build

how many singhs would benefit if they changed their diets and would grow to be strong and built athletes with lean muscle and a build that clearly shows high muscle low fat body type

indian diet is super healthy but the way Indians cook their food makes it one of the worst diets in the world

THIS MAY EXPLAIN WHY SOUTH ASIA STRUGGLES SO BADLY AT ATHLETICS ESPECIALLY AT THE OLYMPICS ESPECIALLY WHEN INDIA ALONE HAS A BIGGER POPULATION THEN EUROPE AND ALL OF SOUTH ASIA HAS A BIGGER POPULATION THEN EUROPE AND SOUTH ASIA HAS A BIGGER POPULATION THEN LATIN AMERICA AND SOUTH ASIA HAS A BIGGER POPULATION THEN SUB SAHARA AFRICA YET THESE CONTINENTS CAN PRODUCE A SMALL COUNTRY OR A SINGLE ATHLETE TO KICK ALL OF SOUTH ASIA'S BUT AT ATHLETICS

India does badly at sports not for lack of talent but lack of sports academies and funding
