Due to the policies of the Indian govt Chandigarh has become less and less Sikh with each passing year. In 1971 when Chandigarh was demanded as the sole capital of Punjab the Sikhs were 25% but in 2001 this has fallen to 16%. The BJP is asking for Chandigarh for Punjab in order to increase the Hindu percentage in Punjab and thus increase it's chances of taking power in Punjab on it's own.

Think of the ugly concrete jungle of Croydon town centre and transplant it in the middle of Punjab.

Umm...not a pleasant thought is it ?

And thats exactly what Chandigargh is. An ugly, badly designed city. A city designed to sit well in San Diego, where nobody walks, everybody drives etc.

It is a city not fit for purpose. I personally think we should punish Haryana by giving it to them.

The city was designed by le corbusier. With the exception of yourself, ive yet to come across anyone who can fault his work.

Do you not think the % of sikhs would increase in chandigarh if its given to punjab? Id think the haryanvees would want to move out.

I do see your point though... :(

We know who designed it S4angh. We've all sat on his chairs and sofas. And we've all agreed that their extremely uncomfotable.

Well then you need to get out more, my friend. It is a widely held opinion, especially among the intelligensia, that Le Cobusier was a really rubbish designer / architect. And I mean really really rubbish. His pathetic inability to design anything capable of withstanding natural elements is legendary and the decaying facade of buildings in Chandigarh is testament to that. His most famous quote, and one which pretty much sums up his attitude toward both architecture and human beings, is: “A house is a machine to live in.” He spent most of his career following this creed, putting up graceless, poorly-built concrete “machines” all over the world, and encouraging others to do the same. Chandigarh is a spectacular example of why Le Corbusier was such a terrible architect. Gigantic, oppressively out of scale concrete government buildings squat alongside slimy reflecting pools ri, their walls stained and failing as a result of the passage of time, the extreme weather of Punjab, and the poor choice of materials. Office blocks with pointless shapes plopped along the roofline concealing who knows what look like interrogation centres for the KGB. Apartment / Flats buildings that are reminiscent of stacks of dirty, corrugated cardboard about to go into the shredder give the impression that the residents would be better off living in an actual cardboard box. Even the artificial lake created for the enjoyment of the residents of Chandigarh features what look like watch tower platforms from a concentration camp.

To put it another way S4ANGH, Chandigarh looks exactly like the mistakes made in Britain after the Germans bombed the hell out of our cities in WW2. We hurriedly put up concrete monstrosities like Chandigarh. We've spend the last 2 decades knocking every one of them down to correct the mistakes made. The same should be done to Chandigarh. It is one huge, gigantic mistake.

Hmm dont know what to make of this...cautiously excited?

longowal accord also snips away north, east, and south-west portions of punjab and hands them to himachal, haryana, and rajasthan respectively.

bjp wants to consolidate the non-sikh and any portion of the sikh vote. enough to bring them to power and put bussiness class hindus in control with perhaps a sikh face as cm.

Chandigarh is a complete joke of a city, a poor man's milton keynes...a city with no history and pure fakery. To think that Chandigarh was built to give panjab a "new capital", since we lost the glorious, historic n sohna Lahore, is just a joke of a replacement. Y didnt they jus make Lahore's sisters city, Amritsar the capital, or even the biggest cities, Jalandhar or Ludhiana or heck even the most powerful Princely state, of Patiala? It wudda made more sense. Instead a gora was allowed to design a rubbish city, where even a sector13 wasnt made, coz 13 is an unlucky number for christians, yet Guru Nanak cudnt stop saying 13 (tera)!

Agreed Amritsar should be our capital it already has an international airport, scope for growth, is in the heart of Punjab dharmically, literally and emotionally. But of course that would mean Centre having to recognising it as more than just any old city ... hmm ...also since we want it to be recognised as a Holy city this is easier to get if the city becomes state capital too.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
