I recently downloaded a program called Riyazstudio from riyazstudio.com it has tanpura and tabla taals recorded in raag too which you can play along too, there two levels to the program the price is reasonable , have a look it might be what you need if a tabla player isn't free to join you.

you can get a code to try it

lol pen ji :D, I knew you'd have a solution! haha, I was trying to find a solo recording of the genuine table beat for normal shabads (without raag)

Also I was wondering if anyone has any tips for making sure your keeping a consistency in your speed whilst singing a shabad?

Thank you :)

The original reason I got it was I needed something metronome like to help with bowing speeds during saptak practice and onwards and regular ones didn't allow for classic Indian beats ...best solution I could find without shelling out loads of money for a dedicated electronic tabla kit box.

also do you have any tips for making sure your keeping consistency in your speed, because i think that may be my problem for not matching the tabla, maybe?

or any other tips for making your kirtan better!

if you try the program you can set the taal to whatever you want to practice and then you can match up with that, maybe recording sections you want to replicate from teacher and playing alongside may help too

Count how many beats per line. That will tell u which taal too. Then play keys without speaking n keep count. Then realize how many times each key must be pressed. And keep to that when singing. Basically do the sargam of the shabad...if this is confusing I'm sorry its hard to explain. Below is example of sarguma and its 6 beat n u press each key once only except ma and pa at the ends of both lines, which are pressed twice. If u keep to that, u shud stay in taal.
