Such manmat. Its all vikhaava nothing more. This is what happens when we try to impose so called western values on Sikhi like this western form of feminism or trying to justify your manmat by citing a homosexual wedding as mentioned in that article.

These two have completely lost the plot. What they did was all for vikhava or show off in front of others so others will praise them. That's the wrong mindset for a Sikh to have and its this mindset which gives birth to the kind of manmat they ended up doing. Instead what a sikh does he does to please his Guru. And what better way to please Guru Sahib than to increase your paath, simran and rahit that is what these two should have done. But then their uncles and aunties would not have praised them as they did for their manmat.

People these days wanna experiment their own ideas into the Gurmat traditions and teachings and when someone raises an issue on that , they will say that this is their life and they can do whatever they want.

In 1579 Guru Arjan Dev ji maharaj had the honour to start his grehsti life with Anand Karaj maryada with Mata Ganga ji. Guru Arjan Dev ji led the laavan and Mata ji followed him. Then later on our other Gurus and great Sikhs of history followed the same traditions as well.

But these days, people are more intellectual. They talk about male female equality. They forget that Guru Nanak dev ji was the first Sikh to raise his voice against women inequality. How can they even think that if our Guru started a tradition , it can be questioned or challenged?

I think there is a danger we are losing sight of the deeper significance of marriage and focusing instead on mere cultural issues, i.e. who stands where.

What you term 'tradition' was, some might argue, the cultural norm in Hindu society and still is so again, I do think its a mistake to be too hung on the pheripheral issue when what really matters is the union with god.

So while it is true that our current Sikh marriage ceremony is carrying on with Hindu vedic practices am I also right in thinking that our current ceremony is actually something that was started and popularised by the enemy Nirankari movement and subsequently adopted by the Singh Sabha movement ?

Absolutely correct. Problem with people today is they think they know more than Guru Jee. Guru Jee gave us a Maryadha to implement in our daily lives, yet some so called intellectual people think this Guru given system is imperfect, so they use their own manmat to "improve" it. And sadly they do it all for Vakhava not for some spiritual gain, because nothing spiritual can be gained from manmat.

And these two were completely ignorant. I don't even blame them as much as the Granthi of the Gurdwara whose advice they sought before embarking on this path of Manmat. That Granthi knows Maryada, yet for some reason only known to him he misguided these two and their families.

There is no written method of how it should be conducted in history or SGGS. As said it's changed from time to time, so this is no issue at all. Show's the equality with impact.
