So i know its an animals instinct to hunt for food.

However when another animal is ripping open another animal in front of your eyes, or even when two animals are fighting what should a Sikh do?

should we leave them to it, because its what they do. Or should we intervene and scare them away?

Tough question: the question should be are you willing to die? Sikhs always protect the defenseless, but there are instances where there are no Sikhs.

Leave them at it, it is part of nature.

Never seen David Attenborough or any other wildlife documentary presenter stop a lion attacking a zebra or wildebeest.

He is not Sikh, unless you can find someone greater than the Guru's Sikhs and Guru Sahib himself than feel free to make that statement: I give you a lifetime to find such a person.

To prevent a predatory animal doing what they are designed to do is against Maharaj 's hukam.

Our Tenth Master had a bird of prey, that bird would have hunted.

A spiritual person was sitting on the banks of a river. In his hand there was an insect, bit like a scorpion. The insect stung the hand of the person, the person drew his had back due to the pain and the insect fell into the water. The person fished the insect out again. Again the insect stung the hand and fell into the water. This was repeated many times and the hand was red with stings.

A passer by who had observed what was happening asked the spiritual person what was going on.

"This insect has fallen in the water I am trying to rescue it. It is his instinct to sting and that is what he is doing. It is my instinct as a man of Waheguru to show Dhaya and rescue him and that is what I am doing. He will not stop from his path and I will not stop from mine"

We are Sikhs of our Guru and as such we have Dhaya and we show mercy and compassion. We should not shirk away from this.

Lol they save cow because it is command. Other animal up to you, follow your instinct. Obviously some Sikhs are vegetarian so may feel it necessary to stop others may not.
