Canadian Sikhs?

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering if we have any Sikhs from Canada on this forum? If not, then is there any other Sikh forum that has a lot of Canadian Sikh users that talk about issues that affect Canadian Sikh community? It seems like this forum is run by British Sikhs who talking about issues that mainly affect their community and Islam (I guess Muslims taking over Europe is bit of an issue for them?).

I'm no Canadian, but can one of you transatlantic brothers or sisters explain to me why the Sikhs in your country have developed a reputation as criminals and extremists in the minds of their non-Sikh countrymen, whereas Sikhs in nations such as my own are very highly regarded?

Are you talking about initiated Sikhs aka Amritdharis, or monas?? If you are talking about monas, what's surprising about that..? Most 'Sikhs' in this country are too busy working all day to take part in any of these stuff.

I'm talking about this: http://www.macleans.ca/news/canada/what-canadians-think-of-sikhs-jews-christians-muslims/

A quarter of the Canadians polled believe Sikhism encourages violence. 30% of British Columbians, theirs being the province where Canadian Sikhs are the most highly concentrated, believe the same.

All I'm saying is that there is obviously something wrong happening in your community, because very few Britons believe the same about the Sikh people.

its because of 9/11 attacks, that sikh community in Canada and America is looked down upon. They think Sikhs are same as Muslims, based on the looks. There's lot of parchaar going on, but it depends if people will comment without having any knowledge of the topic or based on any one bad incident they ever witnessed.

The criminal and extremist reputation really only belongs to Sikhs in BC. Criminal, well thats not so hard to figure out, knee deep involved into all sorts of crime. Extremist reputation? well Air India bombing is the biggest reason, and then the annual nagar kirtan controversy where Babbar Parmars pictures are put up.

Oh please, I know of plenty of Amritdharis who are disgusting people. You seem to have this superiority complex against monay. No, I am not mona.

Parmar's exalted reputation has always confounded me veerji. I support the Khalistan movement completely, but massacring a planeload of civilians is nothing more than terrorism. I'm not surprised the Canadians think so poorly of Sikhs if they really parade his portrait about like that, and treat one of the most shameful events in our history as though it is something to be celebrated.
