1984 Dissertation Help

[Guest God is the Greatest]

I’ve been told to think of an area of interest for my dissertation in university. I would like to do it on 1984 Operation Blue Star because it’s close to my heart but I do not know what avenue to take on it and cannot think of possible questions. Some other students from university have stated it would be difficult to do because of the lack of academic research connected to it.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Discuss the lies surrounding 1984. Wrong and biased portrayal of Sant Ji. What they were really like. Speak to elders. The endless critisism.. tbh its a bit too much for one piece of work. Ongoing.

Another book a fellow forummer recommended to me a few days ago is Cynthia Mahmood's Fighting for Faith and Nation. From the few pages I've read in the preview it's exactly what you're looking for.

Don't do it, the subject is too wide and you would lose marks for bias, unless you have no problems acknowledge all that when shooting hindus off buses and negatives aspects (increased killings/bombings) happening at the time leading up to and after. What about Air India 182? How would you explain all that? When you do dissertation you can not skip/cut corners and if I was spending £1000s for education I rather do something that would help getting a career afterwards.

U could do role of women in 1984 or people of non-Sikh background corroboration of the events like the general who refused to lead army in operation blue star n ak darshi who wrote gallent defender and many other hindus. Also there has been a lot of research done on 1984 by cynthia mehmoud and joyce pettigrew n many others. Or u could focus on delhi pograms n compile info about preprators who r still not jailed. Maybe u could collaborate with Ensaaf they r trying to collect n record info from 84 survivors before they die off. Choose a small angle. Like response of western sikhs after 84. U could also do it on other sikh issues. If u r in america then so it on start od ghadar in america if in canada then kamagata maru. U could also do it on amount of asylum seekers denied by germany or handed off to india n wat happened to them. This shud be easy to compile research on if it isnt protected info about asylum seekers....like davinder s bhullar

A good one, for example, is use of propaganda to suppress sikhs or hide the truth about what happened.
