Sajjan has received numerous military honours, including the Meritorious Service Medal in 2013, for reducing the Taliban's influence in Kandahar Province.

"His approach, based on his knowledge of local culture and tribal dynamics, helped senior management to engage with influential Afghan tribal leaders, and led to the identification of insurgent command and control connection points," according to the citation on the Governor General's website.

Sajjan was born in India and moved to Canada with his family when he was five years old.

Becauss they want too serve the country they grew up in, and gave them and their parents a chance to succeed. I'd rather serve in the Canadian military than Indian. I'm more curious why some apnay stay in countries they seem to have 0 attachememt towards.

Great point. I have bought up this before. There is no excuse to live in a ghetto segregated way by using a argument- they don't like us.

This is proud moment for all Canadians and Canadian Sikhs especially on harjit singh sajjan new position minister of national defense, this is no doubt very high position which i have no doubts harjit singh sajjan will ace it with his background in army.

This actually sets a bar for all the countries to follow as Europe seems to now mesmerized on the fact how multiculturalism (integrate but not annihilate) actually works in Canada. Also, this breaks wide range of stereotypes that non white cannot be in high position even with qualifications or exceed qualifications both that how white colonist is ought to get us (minorities) somehow (on some minority level that might be true but overall majority this paranoia seems to be proven wrong by mainstream Canadians and mass public opinion) sometimes we get too paranoia on these things as it turns out its not true. In Canada, everything is possible as majority of Canadians support charter rights and freedoms of all. It's founded on charter rights and freedoms.
