Bhagat Kabir Ji writes on Ang. 1365 of Adhi Guru Granth Sahib,

"Kabeer, when you are in love with the One Lord, duality and alienation depart. You may have long hair, or you may shave your head bald."

What does Kabirji mean here, and more specifically, why would this be included in Shri Adhi Guru Granth Sahib?

The Khalsa is instructed to wear unshorn kesh, but Bhagat Kabir Ji seems to say that is not relevant in merging with God.....then what's the point of being keshadhari?

Blessings,

Bhagat Singh

PS: Neither Bhagat Jayadeva nor Bhagat Namdev wore unshorn kesh, and many other bhagats (including Kabirji himself) are rumoured not to have. What is up with that?

This tuk was placed in SGSS before khalsa was created by Guru Gobind singh ji. At that time kesh was not a strict part of rehat maryada. After the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur ji and the sikhs being afraid to go daringly and pick up the holy body of Guru ji for cremation, Guru Gobind singh ji decided to fill his sikhs with the brave and daring spirit of khalsa. Kesh was meant to make the sikhs stand out. Even in a million people the one sikh will be spotted with great ease.

The above tuk does not place direct focus on hair, but takes it as an example to explain the importance of devoting yourself to God from deep within your inner being. Other similar tuks are

Antar agan bahar tan swa

When theres fire of vice in the body and ashes smeared all over on the outside.

Jin mun hor mukh hor se kade kacheya

Those who take Gods name with their mouth but deep inside do not cherish his praise shall not enter his darbar.

Mun nahi preet mukhi gand laavat

You do not cherish the Lord within your heart but engage in pretentious talk that you do.

Another post designed to create doubts about Guru Sahib's hukams. A few days ago he was extolling the virtues of wanking off, and today it's cutting kesh.

I've observed these trolls for a while now, but I refuse to bite my tongue any longer.

Those who gave genuine queries and concerns about Gurbani are easily discernible from those who are attempting to sow seeds of doubt.

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh, the entire Ang you mentioned is all about how people believe rituals will save them, also Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is for all of humanity to learn from, (it's only in our minds that Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji's message is only for a few people). In the olden days some people believed that rituals brought them to Sach Khand, even today people believe rituals are important, what Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is saying follow Vaheguru first of all. By merely keeping Kesh, one cannot go to Sach Khand, but rather bhagti and lifestyle. Keeping Kesh is still important as it's Guru's Hukam. Also where is this Bhagat Jaidev and Bhagat Namdev Ji not keeping Kesh, if you are referring to their pictures, then I want to ask you; which person back then would paint a picture of a poor Brahmin and some low-caste guy? (What people thought back then). Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

He seems like a genuinely confused guy from his previous posts, not just this one. Sometimes Daas wondered myself what the purpose of Kesh truly is, as well as other things. Though if he continues, (especially without replying to the topic after it started), then he's probably trying to troll.

There's ways to voice those doubts. Someone who does have questions does it in a completely different way to those who are causing mischief. I won't say much more, because I like to be able to spot them playing their games.

It's also written in Dasam Bani - kesh dhareh na mileh har pyaareh ( just by keeping kesh doesn't mean you can obtain God)

Now both Aad and Dasam are the true writings of the Gurus and nothing is false inside it

What the Gurus are saying is that the aim of the human life is to achieve Brahmgyaan

And that any ritual or physical attire is not the ultimate goal

However since Satyug it is believed that kesh keeps ones dharma and that's why Guru Ji made it a strict rehat to keep however only the Brahmgyaani who has left the physical body mindset and is merged with God is free from the body

Kabeer isn't saying it's okay to cut your hair and further more Gurbani promotes rehat celibacy education abstinence from drugs freedom from desires meat eating

Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji stated that keeping kesh helps keep ones dharma that is the sole purpose of keeping kesh

Only a Brahmgyaani can say to the sareer (body) gyaani that keeping the kesh (sanatan dharma) or keep shaved head (yogis Jainism etc) is not a great spiritual achievement

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
