this thread will be updated every week going chapter by chapter or sumtimes page by page this book is the english translation of jail chittyan Chapter 1 Awakening of Faith YOU ASK ME, how did the love of Sikhism awaken in my mind. The important thing is that it came as a special inspiration from the Divine Being, otherwise there was nothing in me to merit it. There was a natural yearning for true love in my heart from childhood. I had searched long and hard for a true and beloved friend, whose love could last unto death, but I did not find any. With all this disappointment, the spark of love, present within my heart, convinced me that it was the only life-giving…

Hello, I am writing an essay on the Raag Gond, and on page 874, Namdev is talking about the various figures in Hindu mythology who were redeemed and whom were not. I am having trouble with the reference to Kali. It says "The Lord, who killed Kaysee and Kans, gave the gift of life to Kali." Does anyone know, is this talking about the goddess Kali or the demon Kali or another one? And what is the story referenced? In what situation was Kali given life?? Thank you so much. My research is not turning up anything. LaChelle, Claremont Graduate University

I have heard some people questioning the Gurmantar being "Vaheguru" and some go as far as saying Bhai Randhir Singh "invented" the Gurmantar "Vaheguru". Knowing that these people are speaking utter nonsence, it spured me to look into the Gurmantar, and realise the beauty of the Gurmantar and appreciate it more. If i have made any mistakes in this article, please forgive me and let me know. Thanks. “Vaheguru Gurmantar Hai…” by Manvir Singh Khalsa Mantar is a Sanskrit word, simply meaning "incantation". Just as the fragrance is boxed in the flower, and the light of the sun is hidden in the colours, similarly, the essence of the Divine Expression resulting from Super Co…

Excellence of Sikhism, Sarup S. Alag Mr. B.S. Murthi, former Minister of State for Health, Government of India, wrote a book entitled 'Opressed and Depressed'. In this book he described the problems of opressed and scheduled(backward) castes in India and advised the socially backward brethren that if they wanted to live a life of pride, honour and poise then they should accept the baptism of 'Khande Bate da Amrit' and take refuge in Guru Granth Sahib. Thus they will be saved from the age long chronic disease of social stratification and inequality. He further states: "In India, there is more need to bring awakening in scheduled class compared to any other caste. The…

Enjoy the 'darshan' of these Beautiful Shastars of the Guru Sahiban and other Historic Shastars. Akal Takht Sahib - Preserved in the Akal Takht Sahib are the Historic shasters of Guru Sahiban and their beloved warriors. Unlike the shasters displayed at Anandpur Sahib which are housed in a large windowed structure and can be viewed from all sides - the Shasters at Akal Takht Sahib are housed in a Gold Throne with latticed doors - though beautiful, it makes viewing the shasters difficult, and therefore they cannot be seen clearly or are missed by man…

this was sent through an email by a lovely sister....its long but worth reading! Vahegurrrroooooo.... The wind was howling outside. The sky was clear and there was a full moon, which looked like a massive pearl hanging in the sky. There were no clouds to be seen, but stars beyond counting. The night was quite silent except for the howling of the wind which sounded familiar to some ones cry in pain. Dharmpreet was sitting in her room, silently with the lights switched off. Five minutes ago she had an argument with her dad over something that meant nothing to her, yet managed to hurt her feelings. She felt sad and alone, repeating what happened in her mind over and o…

Vaheguru jee kaa Khalsa Vaheguru jee kee fateh! Imagine if someone told you that you were going to die in one month. What would you do? Well, this happened in reality to a fortunate person, not very long ago. I heard this story, that occurred about 10 years ago in my native village in India. There lived in that village a person called Ravel Singh. Ravel Singh did not learn to read and write as was the case in our villages in the 40s and 50s, and as such could not read Gurbani. When he grew up to be a youth, he became entangled in bad company and started drinking and doing other bad things. In short he led a life of a saakat (manmukh, bemukh) all his life. I dont know …

http://education.vsnl.com/sikhism/Bani2522Eng.htm Why we say, “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh” The message “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh” is to be conveyed whenever two Sikhs meet each other. Guru Gobind Singh Ji has said, “My face will be towards that person who says it first. My back will be towards that person who says it afterwards. I will be in between both of them, if both of them says it together.” Hence, in order to spread the message of brotherhood, we should say Fateh together. The traditions set by Guru Sahibs, whether they are documented or not can be derived from Gurbani, provided we try to go in the depth of Gurbani. However, we …
