AKAL TAKHT Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti is toying with the idea of imposing a ban on the use of sub-castes with names among Sikhs, it is learnt. Sources told Hindustan Times that Jathedar Vedanti was convinced that the practice of using sub-caste with names was contrary to the teachings of Sikhism. Through a formal communiqué, the Mission had recently urged Jathedar Vedanti to issue a directive banning the practice of using sub-castes by Sikhs. Taking a cue from the Sikh principles – Manas Ki Jaat Sabhe Eeike Hi Pehchanvo – the Miss…

Some Jats are known to be proud of their farming heritage and lifestyle, and have taken it to the point where they write songs about it. There are also folk tales of famous jats. But becuase of this the Jats are the primary target when it comes to the caste issue, because they are more open in the fact they are jat.
