‘Animal’- Man & ‘Human’- Man ?

‘ANIMAL’-MAN AND ‘HUMAN’-MAN ? The topic was discussed both in Canada and USA and the outcome is given below. I was invited to a high school in Quesnel, B.C., Canada, for a lecture about the Sikh way of life. There were some Sikh students in the school. They wanted me to address their classmates and answer their questions about Sikhs and their heritage As an introduction, I started with unanticipated questions to draw the attention of the students and to make my talk more interesting. Author : Why have you come to school today? It is a nice day to be outside. Students : We want to study. Author : Primitive man did not have to go to any such school. Why do you …

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. My first post on this forum, prompted by wanting to share a strange experience with you. I live in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, and whilst walking to the local shops yesterday I was approached by an Asian man, perhaps 30 years of age, who crossed the street to talk to me. He greeted me with Sat Sri Akal, which I reciprocated (I wear a Dastar and a beard, so he knew I was a Sikh). His Punjabi was quite poor, but he kept conversing in it, although his English, which he occasionally resorted to, was excellent. He gave me his name, which I forget (I'm useless at names at the best of times), and asked where I lived. I pointed in the d…

Gur Fateh, Has anyone read a book named "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle? It talks about the nature of Ego and is fascinating. I'd love to connect with someone that has read it (or is planning to) and discuss how it relates to sikhi and the Guru's teachings.

hmmmm i have seen women at our local gurdwara wash out used milk cartons (the big plastic bottles or pipia) and fill them with water and then place them by Guru jis Takht and thennnn call it "Amrit" how so is this Amrit? today i called it "pani" or "jal" and i kinda got told by an uncle ji (hehe so cute he was) he said it's amrit and i should call it so, is this because its placed where Gurbani is recited?? my aunt had asked me to fetch this particular water as her daughter is getting wed and she said she had to take a bath with it? lol ummmmm i'm confused!!

"but we were going to get married..." 1 2 3 4

hi so many times i heard from sikh girls who said they had sex with their partner because they were intending to marry them, but the said partner then dumped them without any marriage. i do not know if it was deliberate self-deception, but its just a warning to woman- if you are truely going to marry someone, then the sex can wait until after the actual marriage. same with boys- don't lead someone along and have sex with them when you know you have no intention of marrying them- the sex can wait until after marriage.

Fatheh Sangat Ji. I have a dilemna. In our community there lives an older Sikh. Everyone in the community knows him and respects him. Many people think he is a Sant. Knowing this, I do not know whether to tell someone of what he has done or whether it is best to say nothing. I do not wish to get into the details of what happened but I will say that I was sexually harrassed and physically violated by him. I feel that if I tell someone and word gets out then the Sangat will get hurt. They will lose Shardha and it will be another reason why parents will discourage their children from Sikhi. I also feel that if I tell someone they will not believe what happened.I myself know…

"Gursikh"(?) Weddings

lately it seems that many of the singhs and singhnees i knew for a few years now and are prominent in gatka, sikh organizations etc etc are starting to get married, and thats all great, but these are by no means gursikh weddings! the singhnees are wearing make up full on, fake lashes, having reception parties with full out bhangra, mehndi, fake nails, bangles, necklaces, etc etc its so sad to see strong spirited warriors of guru gobind singh ji dwindle down to so little, i thought a sikh stands for something greater, stronger, and something mysterious even.. i was hoping that with all of these pictures out on the net, that some gursikh couple can post their pics or even…

"harmandar Sahib", Perhaps Darbar Sahib? 1 2 3 4

Dont shoot me for just askin a question, but whats the oldest account which refers to Sri Darbar Sahib as Harmandar Sahib? The only gurbani tukh which uses the word, "prabh harmandar sohna", was written by Guroo Nanak Dev Ji, i.e before Darbar Sahib was made so i dont think that that tukh is reffering to Darbar Sahib. So wheres the earliest place that the name "harmandar sahib" is used in reference to Darbar Sahib Amritsar?

why is it that most fo the time a person in gurbani is referd as "he" but not "her"......if the soul (which is the identity of every person) is seen as a female in gurbani then why doesnt it refer a person as "her" in all cases...just bit confusing? hope you understood what im trying to say...?

"rakhriya" In Sikhi
by Guest Question Singh- 9 replies

Could some1 explain whether Sikhs should tie "Rakhriya" - when the sisters tie them on the brothers or is this a Hindu tradition? Some ppl say that Guru Nanak Dev Ji's sister Bibi Nanaki used to tie a Rakhri on Guru Nanak Dev Ji, is this true?? Also, after the "miya" at a wedding, many sikh families tie these red strings on every1's wrists there - whats that about - is it real sikh wedding tradition or another Hindu one mixed into Sikh weddings?? What are the Sikh views on these traditions and what facts r there to back up ur views? thanks wjkk wjkf
