  3. there is a solution, it is called knowledge/education. Somewhere along the way the primal point for the community, the gurdwara, has lost its function as the greatest university in the world. The gurdwara's have become businesses to pander for every whim of sikhs, as long as they pay. this is why we have gone wrong. Gurdwaras need to teach gurmat, and also implore the sangat to uphold the khalsa ideals. i will give you 1, but very major example a child is born, the parents do an akhand paath, pay the money and gone. But it is never said from Guru's stage, "that you parents have been given a gift from Waheguru, and it is your duty to keep this child on gurmat marg, as long as it is in your care. So the first step of the parents is to keep its hair. Do not ever contemplate cutting your child's hair, for it will bring great sin of you both, but not the child..." the gurdwaras will never say this, cos they want the money more than the child growing up to be a kesadhari sikh. do you understand this? Gurdawaras have to get themsleves on track first, and then the rest will improve.

  4. This academy does way more seva for the youth than any Gurughar in UK... How many of us can say that your local Gurughar, does "enough" for the Youth? We should divert all funding from Gurudwares, to this academy. Instead of Gurudwaras, building farty party halls, that funding should be donated to 100% Pure Gurmat places, SUCH as Mata Sahib Kaur Academy. And the fact theres no committee is just brilliant! :D

  6. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Gyani Udham Singh Ji wrote a book many years ago about Ikonkaar and the power of Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj’s bani. Within this book Gyani Ji wrote the following sakhi which he experienced with his own eyes: One time there was a Nihang Singh who used to live at a Gurudwara Sahib in a village in India. Gyani Udham Singh Ji visited this Gurudwara Sahib and saw the Nihang Singh Ji rush outside through the doors of the Gurudwara Sahib as if his very life depended on it. After a while the Nihang Singh would return to the darbar of Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj and take his place within the sangat. After a certain time had elapsed the Nihang Singh Ji would rush outside once again. Gyani Udham Singh Ji began to wonder what the Nihang Singh Ji was doing and decided to follow him outside the next time he rushed out. When the Nihang Singh Ji did so Gyani Udham Singh Ji saw him run into a field behind the Gurudwara Sahib (facing Guru Granth Sahib Ji) and stand with his hands together before matha teking. After remaining like this for a while the Nihang Singh Ji would then get up and walk back towards the Gurudwara Sahib. When Gyani Udham Singh Ji saw this he thought in his mind that the Nihang Singh has probably taken some bhang and does not know what he is doing. But then he thought that he should ask the Nihang Singh Ji why he does what he does. The next time the Nihang Singh Ji rushed out Gyani Udham Singh Ji quickly stopped him and said, “Where are you going?” The Nihang Singh Ji quickly replied, “Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj and the fauj are waiting, I have to get ready!” Gyani Udham Singh Ji still thought that the Nihang Singh Ji was under the influence of nasha. However when he sat near to the Nihang Singh Ji in the darbar of Guru Sahib all he could hear vibrating from the Nihang Singh was, “Waheguru, Waheguru, Waheguru, Waheguru, Waheguru, Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, Waheguru, Waheguru, Waheguru, Waheguru, Waheguru, Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj”. As Gyani Udham Singh Ji heard this he saw the Nihang Singh Ji bow before Maharaj and say, “This Fauji is ready now” as he ran through the Gurudwara Sahib doors and into the field where he placed his head. Only this time the Nihang Singh Ji didn’t get up. When the Sangat saw this they gathered around and were left in a state of shock. One of the old sevadaars of the Gurudwara Sahib stepped outside of the crowd and said that this Nihang Singh Ji was no ordinary Singh but a Bandagiwala Mahapursh who choose to remain Gupt. The sevadaar said that he used to see the Nihang Singh Ji daily but the Singh would remain absorbed in Sri Mool Mantar Sahib Ji, Sri Gurmantar Sahib Ji and Seva. Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

  10. yes i hear what you are saying, it is obvious now, that the modern world has broken the sanctity of marriage, but sikhs who have knowledge of Gurmat and walk on this marg, are still falling prey to this notion of not getting married. And that will have repercussions on the panth in future.

  11. if it is wriiten in your karam it will happen no matter what, if it isn't, then no matter what u do, it will not happen, nothing is in our hands, all pre determined by almighty vaheguru. If u r resistant to the thought of it just yet, could be inner fears and anxieties or maybe due to looking at others unhappy around you. If you are genuinely against it then maybe vaheguru has some other seva in mind for you, if it isnt written then, even if you get a hundred rishtey, they will all fizzle out, because some things are not in his hukam. Just go with the flow and ask vaheguru for what you really want truly inside.

  12. Do jaap of this shabad by Guru Arjun Dev Ji in Sanskriti. It will remove kaam from your mind. Hay kamg narak bisramag, boho jooni purmavan O s** desire, you lead the mortals to hell; you make them wander in reincarnation through countless species. Chit hurnun treeh loke jumung jap tap seel bhidharan You cheat the consciousness, and pervade the three worlds. You destroy meditation, penance and virtue. Alp sukh avit chunchul ooch neech smawan But you give only shallow pleasure, while you make the mortals weak and unsteady; you pervade the high and the low. Tav behmunchit saad sungum uth Nanak nairain. Your fear is dispelled in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, through the Protection and Support of the Lord. ||46||

  13. its really sad to read this, unfortunately i feel that 14days just isnt long enough to raise that much money, perhaps all of the amazing seva which is done there could be shared amongst over nearbye gurdvaras so that the children dont miss out.

  14. i regularly attend the academy and know alot of the families who send their kids there and do seva. since the opening of the academy it has been making regular payments. However since june 2010 the financial situation has been critical. around 300000 was required of which 150000 has been brought together by sangat. Another 150K is required. if anyone doest not believe me you can go there yourself and speak to the head granthi Bhai Kawaljeet Singh the academy is the only place where kids who come are on a rota system where they take turn to do kirtan every night of the week. They regularly do seva of the darbar sahib like making degh, sukhasan, prakash, taking huknammas from maharaj. THey regularly attend amirtvela on the weekends and during the holidays. there are many kids who have kept kes and have been blessed with amrit, also the sachkand is big as the darbar sahib, where bridh pothis can be kept with full maryada and satkaar. the accounts are open to all of the sangat if they wish to see them, Just go there in the evening sometime. There is no committee but there is a seva team which anyone can join. this seva team has no head besides Sri Guru Granth Sahib this place is all about the future of the panth. please help and pass the message on that OUR guru ghar needs help.

  15. How can you say what sant is high and which is not to your standard. What a pathetic and very childish post. Only a bramhgyani knows a bramhgyani only a gurmukh knows a gurmukh. To label some Sants better than others is very annoying and to ask others to do the same is maha paap. Obviosly you have no real attachment to a jeevan of a sant but just to be associated with a recognized sant will make your jeevan better, you feel. You have no understanding of what a sant is so please feed your brain with some knowledge of what it takes to do sangat with saints before you rush in and find your celebrity status saint. Just to add to previous post, judging by some posts on this thread alot of bramhgyanis subscribe to sikhsangat

  22. Personally I think it is more likely a case of a general dislike of foreigners than mistaken identity for mosques behind such things. I think the fact that Gurdwaras (other than the larger ones in Sikh strongholds) are very often virtually empty for most of the time (unlike many mosques which seem frequently busy at all times of day). This makes them an easier choice for attack. Plus Sikhs haven't got that reputation for violent reprisals in Britain anymore (that might've put some people off doing such things).

  23. you are right in a sense, but unfortunately it doesnt work out that way today. if it did, why would any amritdhari who wants to join the akj have to take amrit again from them? We all know that different jathas/samprdayes give different rehats according to their version of what Gurmat is. Some people just prefer to take Amrit from those who they believe follow their version. anyway like i sed, im not asking for myself.

  24. I wanted to know what the sangat thinks about getting married. Does every sikh have to get married at one point in their life? Or is it ok if we don't. Is is compulsory to get married in Sikhi?? I wanted to know this because I am a girl who doesn't want to get married and whenever my parents or anyone else talks about getting me married, I get really mad. I really start to dislike whoever talks about it. I want to know what everyone else thinks about it.

  25. The householders life is very important in Sikhi. Many people don't marry because they are scared of a married life. This whole new way of living without getting married amongst people is some what like the lifestyle of the yogis that ran away from the world, scared that maya might get them. You can do as much paat as you want and still Sri Waheguru ji is going to be far away because that self conceit or selfish mind is present. As Sikhs of the Guru we have duites to strengthen the Khalsa Panth and spread Gurmat. Raising a kid into Gurmat is a task that takes alot of time away from the parents. The parents have to devote long hours each day and while going through the whole process the married couple learn just how hard it is to create and then let go. Those that are not willing to get married and then say we still do paat have not got the essence of Sikhi. Sikhi is about devoting your life to Guru Sahib and then to this world. But what do these people do. They don't get married do paat as a ritual and then look forward to having extra time for leisure activities. It's called living life up. These people don't worship Sri Waheguru ji, they worship that leisure time. And then the excuse married couple are not happy. So what does that mean. Have you not read in Gurbani the words even in sin I am happy because im with you (Sri Waheguru ji). These lame excuses go nowhere and Gurmat tells the true story behind these lame excuses. Before people jump on the Sant train and say look at them. Let's look at the Sant lifestyle. There are many Sants out there that don't marry and then there are the many Sants out there that do marry. These Sants don't run away from the householder lifestyle, but they take on a huge responsibility by making the whole world their children. They let go of all the single life desires and completely devote themselves to the world. They don't waste a second on themselves. The paat they do is for Satguru and to make the world a better place. They start Gurmat schools, other institutions, they go town to town, village to village helping out whoever needs help. So they are not selfish at all. There leisure time is helping others. Do these people not realize if there parents didn't get married they would not exist today. Then who would have given you the chance to do paat? It takes man and woman to bring a soul and flesh into this world. This is also selfish of them for not living to realize this very fact.

  28. I know what you mean. Whilst Muslims are multiplying in huge numbers, we have our people questioning marriage itself. It will only serve to weaken us in the future. Modern (not even modern but extremely western) ways of life are such a huge problem for those of us in the community, who wish to live simple, respectful lives before AND after marriage. I honestly don't know the solution to this problem.

  29. @ chatanga - In an ideal world, then yes. But when one partner has other designs for the marriage, then trouble will always lie ahead. You obviously don't know me, but I also - like you - believe the above issues are superficial factors resulting from the modern world. Like you, I am from the traditional school-of-thought, which is, however, tempered with a grounding in the realities of the world we live in. However I cannot continually "hope for the best" as you seem to be suggesting. If this is incompatible with Sikhi, then I'm afraid that's my sin to bear. To the dog 'minusing' my posts again - go make your mess somewhere else.

  30. Thank-you Bundha Ji for the clarificaiton. Having had time to mull this issue over, I personally believe that such events / people were part of the pre-history era of the earth, namely the (disputed and controversial) period of time of when Atlantis was supposed to be in existence. I'm probably totally wrong, but I reckon "something" happened which caused these advanced civilisations to be wiped out, and then we began with the whole issue of dinosaurs, etc, leading up to the caveman. However I'm sure some geological evidence will completely refute what I'm saying...

  31. This is the same Jack Straw who was almost at pains to deny a problem with immigration in the UK, on the Question Time programme in which Nick Griffin was a panel member? Whilst I appreciate this issue isn't directly related to immigration per se, Mr. Straw seems to have changed his tune since the Labour defeat at the polls. Typical politician.

  32. This is a diversion from the original intention of the OP (and I apologise to Bundha Ji for this) but I have a few questions. So are we saying that the likes of Pandu actually walked the earth, and they weren't fictional, mythological characters created by the author of the mahabharata ,etc? I guess if Guru Ji said so then it has to be true. I'm just wondering which period of human history we would categorise such character's existence? When do the likes of Krishna, the Pandavas, etc., fit into the time-period of history in terms of B.C. etc?

  33. I don't know if birthday customs exist, but you can do a langar at the Gurdwara. Invite all your family, relatives, and friends to partake in listening to kirtan, katha, and dhadhi. Do seva from cleaning shoes to the kitchen to serving langar to doing seva of Maharaj ji. A human birth is more of an acknowledgment that Maharaj gave us the chance to meet him, so not really celebrated. The day someone takes Amrit is the day he should celebrate because Maharaj blessed the person with the immortal nectar.

  34. He has a point but this was common knowledge when he and his cohorts were in charge of the uk government why did they create laws that created such hysteria and then didnt do anything about the muslim gangs who would target white/non-muslim girls for sexual exploitation up and down UK. Jack straw is two faced never trust labour they are enemies of freedom and civil liberties. And isnt he the same jack straw that proscribed babber khalsa and ISYF under anti terror laws thus ending the support for legitimate right to wage an armed struggle against an oppressor state. I believe he did this because he had pre-knowledge of what was going to happen in 9/11 from intelligence sources so to make it seem he wasnt targetting the muslim community by proscribing al-qaeda and islamic groups. He as home secretary at the time banned several organisations seeking to militarily free their homelands from brutal occupation including Sikh, Tamil and Kurdish groups. Strangely enough he as a Jew has not proscribed any jewish groups (ie IDF), when British jews openly travel to israel under joint citizen ship and serve in the army. Isnt this hypocrisy and double standards? as much I support the right for Israel to exist were it is and even expand into greater judea I can not understand the logic and favouritism that western governments seem to show towards the Jews. I personally think it call comes down to money, jews have strong industry leaders in banking/finance, politics, military and media. Something us Sikhs should learn from if we want progress as a community to the upper echelons of society.

  35. Following this logic, we should not take any medicines, since some medicines contain alcohol. There is a definite difference between taking alcohol, or hemp as a form of medication, and that to be taken to get off your head. Don't confuse the too. Those fools who justify getting off their heads on hemp because it was given in small quatities in a medicinal form before battle are fools................bt then again, we Sikhs have not the best reputation for intelligence.

  39. yes i understand, but the greater issue in your post is that you show no understanding of parents and their duty of seeing their child is married. in our religion, marriage is very important, and our Guru's were married by their parents, but the joy as well of parents seeing their children married is immense. what is stopping young sikhs getting married today? they worry about stuff like compatiblity, with 100% shared interests or that their husband/wife has to have movie star looks etc. this is not what gurmat is about. Where there is 1 sikh, there is 1 sikh, but where there are 2 there is a sangat, so marriage is symbolic of permanent sangat between man and his wife(s), or between a woman and her husband(s).

  40. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66m_wMljUQA YouTube video info: Mata Gujri ji, Mother of the Tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobin Singh ji, makes her divine presence when her divine soul enters this lady's body in Bhuntar, Himachal Pradesh, India. This is for real and for those who don't believe it, just go to Bhuntar, Himachal Pradesh, see it with your own eyes. Please do not post any bad comments about this video. Even if you do not beleive in this. Mata ji gives darshan , preaches sikhi and bani, and solves problems of human beings. You can visit the Gurdwara on Sundays only.

  41. Good points. I think 'whiteness' has something to do with the favouritism that you speak of myself. At some stage Anglos decided that Jews were 'white' enough to deserve better treatment. This is interesting as this was not always the case and historically Jews have been on the receiving end of much negative discrimination in Europe. So this elevation and positive consideration of Jews in the Anglosphere is a fairly recent phenomenon and one can easily find all sorts of evidence of normalised antisemiticism in European society (i.e. in literature) not too long ago, if you look. In any case I think there is also a case of trying to forge ahead on our own steam rather than form alliances with other dubious quoms. Look at how Sikhs were the 'darkies of choice' of the English post Panjab annexation but how despite that, when push came to shove they have always turned a blind eye towards our problems like at partition and the whole 1984 onwards stuff. The truth is that we have to learn to take care of ourselves without having to submit ourselves to any other quoms. It's a tough job but one that has a solid precedent in our society with the very founding of the Khalsa. We should learn that getting involved in other people's dodgy politics has always been the ruin of us. Besides Jews are a very cerebral quom when most of our lot seem to be block headed pendus (myself included!).

  42. Bhenji I agree with you completely, but let me just play Devil's advocate for a bit. What if marriage is not written in one's karam, but one's parents are hell-bent on seeing their child get married? I know you could argue that Waheguru is working through the parents to ensure that the person in question gets married, but then it comes down to the person having no control over their destiny (if there is such a concept). He or she isn't making the decision of whether to get married - the parent's are pulling the strings. If left to the youngster, all talk of marriage would stop and nobody would do anything, but because the parents are in control, the path of marriage is travelled even if it may not bear fruit in the future. Does anyone understand what I'm waffling on about?

  46. Are you surprised? Have you seen the potential options for Sikh males and females who've been raised to be respectful, responsible and decent? Whilst some will say "'pray to Waheguru and you'll receive what you deserve" is good advice, trying telling this to the parents of the kids who just want to marry their kids off a.s.a.p.
