  1. It's not Sikhi at fault but quite simply just Sikh society in general which cannot fathom or resolve issues it faces. You say that these people are far from Sikhi. Fair enough, I agree. But look at that former sikh girls video. Her mother clearly had mental issues, something that had gone unnoticed by the other sikhs in Birmingham (judging by the girl's accent). As a community and society we rarely talk about psychological issues for fear of being stigmatised, even if those issues broadcast to the world the mentality of the person! Her father also wished to kill his daughter and wanted to marry her cheaply. What would teaching sikhi to the dad do? If he cares about money, he cares about money. No amount of religion would change that. Finally, with the girl, suffering all this from her parents, if some sikh went up to her and said 'Oh your parents arent proper sikhs', do you think she would care? It wouldnt stop the rubbish nature of her life and she would still look for a way out. If anyone contacted her to tell her that going back to her SIKH community would give her equality she cant get under any other religion, she would just point out how she is treated by the black pentecostals compared to her original family. As for culture, I think people dont really understand the meaning of the word. Culture is art/literature/drama/architecture etc. Some people use it with other words to reflect a movement like 'youth culture'. But you have to ask yourself do Punjabi Muslims/Hindus/Xtians etc have the same problems Sikh Society do? The answer is no. Draw any inferences from that if you want. Bare in mind that laying all the blame in culture is as about as useful as blaming skin colour. If our culture was at fault what should we do? The only thing you could do is change culture to another one. German? American? Brazilian? The truth is there is nothing wrong with Sikhi. There is nothing wrong with Punjabi Culture. The problem is entirely with how Sikhs form societies and what we allow to happen in them. The media in Punjab serve sikhs. If we dont like it we have to change it - create our own media outlets and shout louder than the bad sources of information in the homeland. If our elders talk rubbish and backwardness we have to shut them up and sideline them. If young sikhs suffer we have to reach out to them. Religion cant always solve societal problems.

  3. Sikh Federation (UK) challenge UK Foreign Secretary over Indian press reports following his meeting with the Indian Foreign Minister London 1 July Yesterday (Thursday 30 June) the Foreign Secretary Rt. Hon. William Hague MP met with Indian External Affairs Minister S M Krishna in London. The Indian Express has reported the British Foreign Secretary William Hague has assured India that they will curb “anti-India demonstrations” by Sikhs. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/Will-curb-anti-India-protests--UK-assures-Krishna/811141/ This is almost certainly a direct response to the large peaceful protest by Sikhs in June 2011 to mark the 27th anniversary of the massacre at the Golden Temple Complex and protests against the likes of Kamal Nath when the Indian High Commission also complained to the Metropolitan Police and the UK Foreign Office. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-13660218 The Sikh Federation (UK) responded within hours of the news report appearing in India by contacting UK politicians to clarify the situation. The Federation has asked the All Party Parliamentary Group for UK Sikhs and Shadow Foreign Ministers to urgently take up the following matters up with the Foreign Secretary: i) Did the Foreign Secretary raise the case of Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar at the meeting yesterday? If not, why not, given many MPs have raised the Professor’s case with the Foreign Office and this was an ideal opportunity. ii) The Foreign Secretary / FCO must issue an urgent rebuttal against the Indian Express report that the Foreign Secretary agreed to ‘curb’ peaceful protests in the UK by the Sikh community against India. The Sikh Federation (UK) has said it may in the next 48 hours launch a letter writing campaign from the Sangat through Gurdwaras and the Sikh media to put pressure on UK MPs to write to the Foreign Secretary to raise these issues. Bhai Amrik Singh, the Chair of the Sikh Federation (UK) said “we are confident that with the support of the Sangat we can get well over 150-200 MPs to write to the Foreign Secretary to get him to explain whether or not he gave assurances and to back the Sikhs rights to peacefully protest against India”.

  4. Tell your friend to explain this then (monks burning themselves to death in protest of war without moving): I was to see that sight again, but once was enough. Flames were coming from a human being; his body was slowly withering and shriveling up, his head blackening and charring. In the air was the smell of burning human flesh; human beings burn surprisingly quickly. Behind me I could hear the sobbing of the Vietnamese who were now gathering. I was too shocked to cry, too confused to take notes or ask questions, too bewildered to even think... As he burned he never moved a muscle, never uttered a sound, his outward composure in sharp contrast to the wailing people around him

  5. A wide variety of valid points made by HSD1 that should be read and re-read & not misinterpreted. I'm sure we've all heard the saying "Youth is wasted on the young". I was wondering whether something like "Sikhi is wasted on the Sikhs" would be an accurate description of the problems we're facing? I mean, maybe the concept of Sikhi is something that the majority of our people just simply cannot fathom to its truest extent. We are constantly told Sikhi is a progressive, highly-spiritual faith which promotes equality, justice and love. But how many Sikhs do we know that genuinely live by these standards for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? It seems most of us pick the immediately recognisable parts of Sikhi which dazzles the world and tells them we are Sikhs (i.e. the visual vestments of the faith) but how many of these people's souls match their impressive exteriors? A brief perusal of the Gupt section on SS (as one small example) and we've got Amritdhari people talking nonsense about God knows what. When did they think it was acceptable to fool the world by dressing up as a Sikh but neglecting to provide their souls with the same care and attention? These people should be the beacons of the faith, the light that guides the rest of the people out of the darkness. Yet our problems are not solely limited to young Amritdharis who are - to be fair to them - experiencing life and its assorted issues and probably coming up a bit short because of the inexperience of youth and the temptations of the age we live in, etc. Then there's the people such as the males (elders, fathers, etc) in our community (not necessarily Amritdharis), whose ideals and ways of thinking wouldn't be alien to certain intolerant, ignorant Pakistani / Muslim patriarchs we've all heard about. Who approved them to behave in such un-Sikh ways? Also, considering Sikhi is all about equality it wouldn't be fair if I let our bibiya off the hook (again, non-Amritdharis included). Some of the shenanigans the females are involved in are just so totally and utterly reprehensible that you have to wonder who has told them such practices are acceptable. Intolerance, envy, and downright malice are traits present in every group of people around the world. But the way in which it manifests itself amongst our bibiya & the lengths they go to in order to fulfil their degenerate ambitions, well it just boggles the mind. I don't like delving too deep into these kind of issues as I could be reading them completely incorrectly, but I can only comment on issues I've seen in my own life and issues I read about on this website. The faith we follow seems to be in direct conflict with the quality of people who profess to follow it. The degenerate depths to which we have fallen have gradually began to affect every aspect of Sikh life. Not everyone is mentally resolute as others during difficult times. Not everyone has the spiritual fortitude to see beyond the superficial. That doesn't make them bad people. It just means they're human like the rest of the world and they need a helping hand during tough times. Anyway, I hope no-one has been offended by my words. I know there are some very classy Sikhs who practice what they preach, and whose souls DO match their impressive exterior saroop. They do not deal in hollow words because they practice what they preach, and you can't ask for more than that. Its those who mock the true ideals of Sikhi whilst professing to be a part of it, or those that don't care for the faith itself and just want to see it burn that we need to worry about. Or what is probably the most commonly ocurring group of people in Sikhi - the people who simply don't know any better. How can we help these folk and in the process change the mindset of a people, hundreds upon hundreds of years in the making?

  6. Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Vaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! We are currently working on a project code named Instant Sikhee. Basically this shall be a free service for anyone who has any questions at all about Sikhee. Many people have questions however they don't know who to ask them to or they have a question and will forget it later. So what we are doing is setting up a free phone number for people to ring into at anytime and ask Gursikhs any questions they want at anytime about Sikhee, there shall also be a number to text to if they prefer to text. So for example say one day your walking down the street and suddenly think "Why do Sikhs have to wake up early?" Or "What does this Shabad mean..." and etc. Then you can either simply ring or text in to get an instant reply. We are currently looking for sevadaars to help out with this seva. Please note to be a sevadaar you shall have to be tested first to make sure you have neutral and Gursikhee views. Also if you can think of a better name then please do let us know. To help join in this seva then please either reply here, or email Hardeep@HSingh.net or ring 0800 756 1119. Thank you.

  7. Why don't the Akal Thakt SGPPC etc etc go and lock themselves up in a secluded place and page by page word by word analyse the Dasam Granth so that all shanka [doubt] can be eradicated. And not just say it's all Guru Ji's work to appease some people for unity sake!

  10. lol Brilliant. We believe in brahm gyaanta not scholars gyaanta. Sant Sundar Singh Jee Bhindranvale and the Pandit at Damdama Sahib Once a Pandit came to Takht Sri Damdama Sahib to study from Sri Maan Sant Giani Sundar Singh Jee Khalsa Bhindranvale, when he came and started to study, Sant Jee was doing arth of ‘oankaar’, the pandit listening to these arth was amazed and said where do these arth come from?. A gursikh at the time replied ‘they come from above’ the pandit said ‘where from above’ he was amazed at the beautiful arth that he had never heard. The pandit then stated that in the past I have won 500 gatherings of scholars at 500 rupees each and said ‘I have never heard such deep arth of gurbani, I cannot study from you and walked away’. Sant Gurbachan Singh Jee whilst narrating the sakhi states that these are false people and there veechar are also false, they do not follow what they preach and are just engrossed in maya. pMifq vwcih poQIAw nw bUJih vIcwru ] pa(n)ddith vaachehi pothheeaa naa boojhehi veechaar || The Pandits, the religious scholars, read their books, but they do not understand the real meaning. 11. Its being made out as if sikh channel is the one calling these people and everyone is pointing the finger at them whereas the real issue is what on earth are these people being called to bangla sahib for? It is perfectly reasonable for the channel to expect a major gurdwara sahib such as bangla sahib to have only gurmat prachar, so i would put very little blame on them. Rather lets concentrate on stopping these people getting to our major gurdwaras. No offence but I think its abit irresponsible at a time when the channel is having a funding crisis to bring up issues like this to the public where it could be resolved by contacting them privately. Reason being is unfortunately most people don't bother reading everything and doing their own research and so rumours and half information get spread throughout the community. In my opinion its very important to back the sikh channel and worry about things like this later and not make them into such huge issues. ps.I would like to make it very clear I am 100% against fakes such as kala afgana +co , and all those who question Sikhi, Guru Maharaj, Dasam Granth Sahib Ji and accepted history.

  12. I am currently working on collecting materials (video/audio/articles) all over and then divide them into different categories for distribution. I am still in planning mode but vision is to make a folder which will have everything categorized: ex: if someone's family member passed away and he/she wants to get what sikhi says about death.. they will find that part from folder without much hurdle. One thing.. Beware that no-anti akal takht should be supported to create such material.. So to forum members, please check other party before start working with someone and later to find that they are one of the kala afghani type ppl... Happened to me once and they took material and twisted it to their version. So be careful and do not trust others quickly !
