  2. I think we have changed. Some might construe this change as people being naive and more innocent during those times etc. Others might say we've gained more worldly knowledge whilst losing our spirituality and faith. Its difficult to say to be honest. I'm sure there were cynics and mischievous folk in those days too (BTW I'm not saying a cynic can be compared to a mischief maker) - We only have to look at the example of those many fake Gurus springing up as soon as Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji passed away and declared that the next Guru would be in Baba Bakala. Its much like these modern times where we've got people saying "I'm the reincarnation of Guru Ji" or "I'm an incarnation of God", etc. What I am certain about is that there were a greater number of Sikhs in those days (compared to today) who had high avastha. Their belief was unwavering and their determination to do right by Sikhi was unshakable. I guess that's what I meant by there being better people in those times. EDIT: I'm certainly not naive enough to suggest that those days were comparable to some type of utopia or something similar. I've heard a few stories about the things that use to occur in the general population during the times of our Gurus (in terms of household issues, husband / wife problems, etc) that wouldn't feel out of place in this modern world.

  3. In Krishna avtar of Dasam Granth sahib, Guru sahib has created a character named Kharag singh who fights and defeats combined army of Krishna and Muslims. After a long battle Krisna is unable to match match bravery of kharag singh.He takes off head of kharag singh by deception. Kharag singh continues his fight without head. That was a prediction of Guru sahib and Baba Deep singh proved that prediction. I just graduated high school and will be joing the united states marines, something i wanted to do this i was little I find it sad that we are no longer a community of saint soldiers Its sad to here from other sikhs excuses as to why to avoid the army my motivating factor is this 1. the injustices that the sikh community faces today cause the lack of saiint soldiers in our community, operation blue star the slaughter of over 200 000 sikhs yet very few saint soldiers to stand up if violence were to break out in the punjab again itleast ill be trained and ready, sad thing is so many sikhs talk about khalistan and the injustices but don't train their mind and body's to be saint soldiers so if the fight comes they will be prepared, you may claim you will fight just like ppl claim they will get into shape jan 1st every year only to train in the gym for 2 weeks and when the going gets tough they quite, if you really feel the pain sikhs have suffered then what do you do to educate yourself and train your mind and body 2. its sad that after sardars were allowed into the US army their our only two saint soldiers in the military, and very few saint soldiers in the british army under 100 sikhs in the british army, we are to be saint soldiers, if we are deployed to the battle field i see it as the job of a saint soldier to stand up to injustice and fight for what is right, against the talibon against al quida and even any american soldier that commits any kind of crime 3. i grew up with alot of discrimination but i always stood my ground and fought back, but was always saddened to see other sikhs coward out and take the easy road out especially after 9/11 4. i want to contribute and represent the sikh community, my goal is to make it green beret special ops and for college id like to get an education in nero sciences and human physcology, i want to know why sikhs have become slaves and remained slaves since 1849 and the under stand human nature so i can contribute back to my community and help over come this slavery in the punjab, sikhs are not slaves to hindus they are slaves to the evil corruption that hindus sikhs christians muslims of india suffer from, most indians themselves never got their freedom iinstead becamse slaves to corruption BUT MY BIGGEST PROBLEM IS WHY DON'T WE SEE MORE SIKHS IN THE ARMY, IN COMBAT SPORTS LIKE BOXING AND MARTIAL ARTS ARN'T WE SPOSE TO BE SAINT SOLDIERS AND I WANT TO KNOW BY LEARNING HUMAN NATURE WHY SIKHS WENT FROM LIONS TO COYOTEES BUT MOST OF ALL WHY DON'T WE SEE SIKHS IN THE ARMY, AND THE UNITED STATES ENGLAND CANADA AUSTRALIA THESE ARE OUR HOME COUNTRY'S

  6. Vaheguru JiKa Khalsa Vaheguru JiKi Fateh I really need sangats help with my study. I have been researching the historic sikh organizations mainly comprising of the Nihungs, Nirmalas and Dum Dumi Taksal. I have managed to find tons of documents, scripts, images from historical granths and the three main sikh scriptures regarding the Nihungs. I have managed to find some information on the Nirmalas but i cannot find a single historical reference to Dum Dumi Taksal. I have literally looked far and wide for historical infomation about the taksal and cannot find anything at all. Also another thing that has come to light is infomation about Baba Deep Singh Shaheed. All historical references regarding Baba Deep Singh describe he was a Nihung leader of tarna dal particularly misl shaheeda and never mention a taksal. I managed to find the oldest image of Baba Deep Singh and he is dressed like a Nihung. So i am now a little confused when did Dum Dumi taksal start? and why isnt there any references in historical granths or scriptures. Granths & sources i have researched: Guru Granth Sahib Ji Dasam Granth Sahib Ji Sarbloh Granth Sahib Ji Ratankar Mahan Kosh Pracheen Panth Parkash Naveen Panth Parkash Suraj Parkash Granth Gurbilaas Pathsahi 10 British accounts of Sikhs Anglo Sikh wars British Library and so on...list is long.... Baba Deep Singh image: Please any help at all would really help.

  7. i think you are misunderstanding me my purpose is to serve humanity but more my commumity, what drives me is the injustices done to sikhs, the army is to teach me combat character how to be a soldier so i can take those skills and fight for whats right and i nspire the sikh community about how important it is to have military training, and if not military train in boxing and mixed martial arts, its a duty of a sikh to know how to defend themselves, if sikhs took this serious in america sikhs would run and hide when people attacked them calling them osama and iin england the sikhs wouldn't need to worry about the pakistanis targeting them and in punjab sikhs wouldn't be slaves to politicans

  8. if you go into the army with the mindset that you are serving humanity as a saint soldier then thats what you will be doing the army needs saint soldiers because i know from wikileaks from some of the crimes soldiers have commited in the battlefields, hence why i believe western armies need saint soldiers to change the military cultures many sikhs went into world war 2 to fight hitler, but at the same time many went into world war 2 for the same reason they went into world war 1 many sikhs went into world war 2 cause as a saint soldier duty but many went in as soldiers for england and not as saint soldiers but many sikths went into world war 1 not cause it was a job for a saint solder but went in as soldiers of the britishh army, as we talk about bombing libya and no one standing up for syria mny saint soldiers went into world war 2 fighting for countrys that ruled their country and many other country saint soldier fights for humanity a soldier fights for the politicans if an army is led by saint soldiers, in today's age the govt would be greatly influenced by their demands NOW LETS LOOK AT THE 80;S AND 90;S THE INDIAN GOVT KILLED THOUSANDS OF INOCENT SIKHS AND TODAY LIVE LIKE KINGS REASON THEY CAN LIVE LIKE KINGS IS CAUSE WE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH SAINT SOLDIERS THEN AND DON'T HAVE ENOUGH SAINT SOLDIERS TODAY, AT THE RATE WERE GOING AT IN 30 YEARS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO COUNT ON YOUR HANDS THE AMOUNT OF SAINT SOLDIERS WE HAVE, WE NEED TO TURN THIS AROUND AND START PRODUCING SAINT SOLDIERS AND THE ARMY IS THE BEST PLACE TO LEARN TO BECOME SAINT SOLDIERS LET ME ASK YOU GUYS A QUESTION WHO ARE AGAINST ANYONE JOINING THE ARMY, WERE IS THE BEST PLACE FOR A SIKH TO TRAIN IN TO BE A SOLDIER CAUSE I WANT TO BE A SOLDIER AS WELL LOOK AT THE HUMILATION SIKHS HAVE GONE THROUGH AND STILL GO THROUGH TODAY, THE GOVT LAUNCHED OPERATIONBLUESTAR AND KILLED THOUSANDS OF INOCENT SIKHS, THEN ORDERED THE PUNJAB POLICE TO KILL THOUSANDS OF INOCENT YOUTH, AND CONTINUE TO LIVE LIKE KINGS TODAY, IN 1992 WE HAD BIN DEFEATED FOR TWO REASONS, MANY SIKHS ARE SLAVES TO THE CORRUPT POLITICANS LIKE THE SOLDIERS IN THE INDIAN ARMY AND PUNJAB POLICE, IF THEY WEREN'T SLAVES THEY WOULD OF REBELLED AGAINST THE INDIAN GOVT NUMBER TWO WE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH SAINT SOLDIERS, MOST PEOPLE CHOSE TO STAY IN CANADA AMERICA AND ENGLAND HOPING THE PEOPLE IN PUNJAB WOULD STAND UP AND CREATE THE REVOLUTION NEEDED, REASON THESE PPL CHOSE TO STAY IN THE WEST IS CAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO BE A SOLDIER, EVEN IN PUNJAB FOR THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO FOUGHT FOR SIKHS THEY WERE SO BADLY OUT NUMBERED JOINING THE US ARMY I WON'T BE A SLAVE, A SAINT SOLDIER ISN'T A PRODUCT OF HIS ENVIRONMENT HIS ENVIRONMENT IS A PRODUCT OF A SAINT SOLDIER, THATS MY MISSION WHEN I JOIN THE ARMY, LEARN TO BE A SOLDIER, I WANT TO BE A GREEN BERET, CHANGE THE CULTURE MILITARY CULTURE BY INSPIRING THE SOLDIERS AROUND ME AND THE MILITARY AROUND ME, AND INSPIRE THOUSANDSS OF SIKHS TO TAKE UP THE ARMY

  9. alot of these soldiers fight for justice, they fight against terrorism personally im joining the army cause i find it sad we don't have saint soldiers in western armies alot of the soldiers do join and work for the govt's but alot of soldiers join to fight for humanity

The main idea is lets first spend our time reading our literature and after that we will find that there is no time for debates as we will be wanting to read it again and again and again ....

  11. The problem is that none of our Sant and Granthis has balls to say that all these gods and goddess are fake and we as Sikhs should not worship them. We need some aggressive preachers who atleast in Gurdwara can say truth.

  12. Then I guess its up to Sikhs to ensure that we don't consider the advent of technology and media as a threat to our beliefs. It makes us look weak and it implies we don't really have faith in the glory of Waheguru, because something as basic as a few advances in science (and an increase in societal awareness / knowledge) seems to threaten the Almighty who we love telling everyone has no limits and is unfathomable. You only have to look at the decline in mainstream Christianity in the UK to see how we must evolve with the times but not compromise our beliefs. Its a difficult balancing act for sure.

I think that you yourself realise that you should have used restraint. In the eyes of the law, we are allowed to use self defence, however we should use restraint.   15. If you really believe Baba Deep Singh Ji held his sees on his hand and fought, you shouldn't have to justify that to anyone. Its your belief. If your friend doesn't like it, that's his personal belief too, and whilst we may not like it he's perfectly entitled to that opinion too. If he starts talking about logic and science, then tell him that science says that there's a very high probability that there's no such thing as God. Ask him if he believes that too, or does he have faith in the existence of God?? If he says 'YES' then you say you believe that with God's grace Baba Deep Singh was capable of such a feat. There's no point in comparing his accomplishments to the Gurus. Baba Deep Singh Ji's kismat, karam and shakti were his own and didn't depend on anyone else's status, etc.

  16. Sister, if that's the case I guess you need to come to terms with Toronto's "pendu-ness". It can't be that bad, can it? I mean we are talking about Canada and not a third-world country. I suppose the fact that your parents allowed you to visit your potential in-laws, suggests matters are at an advanced stage. I guess there's nothing more to be done than bite the bullet and hope for the best.

  17. That's an interesting comment. I find an amritdhari wedding to be a very solemn, respectable occasion because God is always kept at the forefront of everyone's mind. The bride and groom are - obviously necessary constituents of the event - not wishing to detract from the holy aspect of the union. Although I can appreciate why some people would find the atmosphere unbearably stifling and sombre. I personally don't think it is. I guess it depends on one's frame of mind and expectations of the manner in which a marriage should take place.

  18. very simple questions to answer if america was on the side of the indian government i would leave the army and take my training to fight for my people, my purpose in joining the army isn't to help american politicans push their agenda, my purpose is to fight for justice against terrorists, and yes its sad that US won't help syria yet are bombing libya but its better then doing nothing at all for the inocent people killed but now may i ask you a question would you agree sikhs are less prepared today then they were in 1984 if the indian govt attacked the punjab today as well if a true saint soldier doesn't need the army to learn how to fight please explain to me were they can go to train like a soldier and fight like a soldier and have the skillsets of a soldier many khalistani singhs kurku singhs living in the west are saints BUT THEY ARE NOT SOLDIERS HENCE WHY THEY REMAINED IN THE WEST RATHER THEN FIGHT FOR THEIR PPL FROM 84 TO 92, AND THIS IS WHY THE KHALISTAN MOVEMENT WAS DEFEATED CAUSE WE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH SOLDIERS so if punjab were attacked again today would you agree we would take a worste beating then we did from 84 to 92, were the men who killed thousands of inocent sikhs live like kings today if you are a supporter of khalistan you should be the biggest fan of getting military training, their is a reason why most ppl ask khalistanis if they want a khalistan why don't they go fight for it what is your reply to these people?? this is were khalistanis lose credibility, NOW WHY NOT JOIN THE ARMY IF YOU WANT KHALISTAN SO YOU CAN LEARN TO FIGHT IN THE BATTLEFIELD LEARN COMBAT AND GAIN EXPERIENCE IN COMBAT IN AFGHANISTAN OR OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD, CAUSE IF PUNJAB WAS ATTACKED AGAIN TODAY WE HAVE LESS THEN HALF THE SAINT SOLDIERS TODAY THEN WE DID IN 84, HENCE WE WOULD TAKE EVEN WORSTE BEATING AND THOUSANDS OF MORE INOCENT SIKHS WOULD DIE Im joining the army to fight terrorism but more then anything im joining the army to serve my sikh community, cause once we have enough saint soldiers we can overthrow the government in punjab peacefully and like 84 the government chooses to use violence we will have enough saint soldiers to defeat them this time we have many saints but no soldiers which is very sad

This is 100% inline with what other Panthic scholars have written on this same subject, namely in the works: Bhai Vir Singh Ji's "ਦੇਵੀ ਪੂਜਨ ਪੜਤਾਲ" Giani Ditt Singh's (Singh Sabha Lehar Founder) "ਦੁਰਗਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੋਧ" Giani Manna Singh "ਦਸਮ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਰਾ ਸਰਵੇਖਣ" (published by Bhai Veer Singh Sahit Sadan) Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha's "ਭਗੌਤੀ (ਭਗਉਤੀ)" and "ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮ ਭਗੌਤੀ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੈ" and "ਮਹਾਕਾਲ ਕਾਲਿਕਾ ਅਰਾਧੀ" Giani Harbans Singh Ji's "ਭਗਉਤੀ ਪਦ ਬਾਰੇ ਨਿਰਣਯ" Bhai Randhir Singh Ji's "ਭਗਉਤੀ ਪਦ ਦਾ ਤੱਤ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਿਰਣਾ" The above scholars ALL agreed that Bhagauti is the power (shakti) of Akal Purakh, ie: NAAM, not some eight or ten armed deity. Despite this clarity, psuedo-Nihangs and pro-Sanatani Nirmala and Udassee minded individuals have intentionally tried to bombard Hindu symbolism and ritualism in Sikhism. Sadly, sikhreality (Jwala Singh) have seemed to jumped on this bandwagon also. The images posted of Hindu devi devtaas on his blog in connection to Sri Dasam Bani are sending a mixed message and adding add fuel to the fire created by the anti-Panthic elements that try to link Sri Dasam Granth to Hinduism. First Sikhs don't worship images, and are against 'murti-puja'. Many such images were created as frescos during the time of Raja Ranjit Singh when Brahmanism has crept into many aspects of Sikhi via Nirmalas and Udasees. These images were created by those whose were obsessed with only the qualities of Sargun and could not grasp the Nirgun power behind these scenes. They are misleading. I think it is our obligation to not promote such non-Gurmat depictions. We don't need images to understand the message of Shabd-Guru. When we read ਹਰਣਾਖਸੁ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦੁ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥ we don't need an image of 'NarSingh' (traditionally known as the incarnation of Vishnu) to understand this tuk. The word ਹਰਿ is enough to illustrate the point that the evil ਹਰਣਾਖਸੁ was destroyed by the power of ਹਰਿ (Akal Purakh Himself), be it in the form of 'NarSingh.' It is nonsense to just dismiss the above scholars and their views as "British influence." If it was not for the Singh Sabha movement, we would still have murtis of these devi devtas in Sri Darbar Sahib Harmandir Sahib and Sri Akal Takht Sahib and our local Gurdwaras along side saroops of Sri Gur Granth Sahib Ji. Without the Singh Sabha movement, instead of an Anand-Karj, Sikhs would still be circling a fire pit, while a pandit read passages from Ved. His blog, Jwala Singh states: Here is a picture of Khem Singh Bedi that Jwala Singh is referring to. Khem Singh used to sit parallel to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji on a gadee (cushion platform), it was Singh Sabha Lahore and Giani Dit Singh Ji who protested in outrage. Khem Singh wanted to treated like a Guru, in the image below there is a man doing chaur. How can any Sikh approve of this? Jwala Singh blog then states: Bhai Jwala Singh should read Bhai Vir Singh Ji's "ਦੇਵੀ ਪੂਜਨ ਪੜਤਾਲ" and Giani Ditt Singh's "ਦੁਰਗਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੋਧ", which makes it clear that NO DEVI appeared in front of Guru Gobind Singh Ji before the Baiaskhi 1699. Instead, Guru Gobind Singh Ji showed the Brahmin pandits who had been performing havan for years, praying for Durga to appear, that the Sri Sahib - Kirpan - was the real Chandi ਨਮੋ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਗੌਤੀ ਬਢੇਲੀ ਸਰੋਹੀ ॥ ਕਰੇ ਏਕ ਤੇ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਸੁਭਟ ਹਾਥ ਸੋਹੀ ॥ and ਨਮੋ ਤੇਗ ਤਰਵਾਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਖੱਗ ਖੰਡਾ ॥ ਮਹਾਂ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਰੂਪਾ ਬਿਰੂਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡਾ ॥ (ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਗੌਤੀ ਸਤੋਤ੍ਰ) Guru Granth Sahib Ji makes is clear that: ਨਿਰਗੁਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਸਰਗੁਨੁ ਭੀ ਓਹੀ ॥ ਕਲਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਗਲੀ ਮੋਹੀ ॥ ਅਪਨੇ ਚਰਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਾਏ ॥ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਏ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਅਪਨਾ ਖੇਲੁ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ Behind the scenes it is ONLY Akal Purakh and nothing else. The rest of creation is just his play. The devis, and devtaas are just part of the drama, but they not the reality. The real DEVI, BHGAUTEE, CHANDEE is AKAL PURAKH SAHIB's SHAKTI - NAAM-Da-KHANDA. In Sri Dasam Granth Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh Ji describes the drama (Natak) but then shows the REALITY. The drama is there for knowledge and inspiration for dharam-yudh, in Chandi-Charriter 2, Guru Sahib states: ਸੁਨੈ ਸੂਮ ਸੋਫੀ ਲਹੈ ਜੁੱਧ ਗਾਢੈ... and in Krishanavtar, it is stated: ਦਸਮ ਕਥਾ ਭਾਗਉਤ ਕੀ ਭਾਖਾ ਕਰੀ ਬਨਾਇ॥ ਅਵਰ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਰਮ ਜੁੱਧ ਕੇ ਚਾਇ॥ Sadly, there are some factions within the Nihangs who are over zealously promoting the traditional Indian concepts of devi, bhagautee, and chandi and linking them to Sri Dasam Granth. This is doing dis-service to those who have worked so hard to clarify these concepts according to Tat-Gurmat. Naam simran is understanding the teaching of Guru , not a repetition of some words or banis. as you wrote"completion of panj granthi equal to doing 101 japji sahib da jaap" what is meaning of doing 101 japji if you don't understand the message or concept of Guru. Concept is to give bani a place in your heart not on toung. As water has to pass through neck to finish thrust , bani has to go deep into soul by understanding the meaning.other wise as per ASA Ki War >> parh parh gadeh ladhian ............... will be and is true.

I think Thakur Singh did not have any proof about this story and some times he is adding manmat in sikhism , eg in one of his lacture he said " some one saw 10 feet saheed singh " where is justification? All guru sahibs were against "kautaks" , he is showing singhs doing kautaks as hindu gods. This is not gurmat , go and watch some video clips at"######"
