  1. So I just got back from Gurdwara and I had an interesting experience I feel like I should share. While sitting at langar, a singh came around to serve some food and seeing that I was gora and such, he promptly introduced himself, struck up a quick conversation, and shook my hand. To those of you who grew up in Gurdwara this may not seem like a big deal, but I can promise you this gesture means so much to an outsider. It honestly quit bothering me quite some time ago, but the insular nature of desis can be a bit jarring at first. I think this is even the case with other desis coming to gurdwara... people just tend to ignore them if they don't already know them. I think this is just as valuable a form of sewa as serving langar, if not more so. So if you are serving langar and see a new face, brown or white, be a gentleman/lady and kindly introduce yourself. I promise it will make quite an impression. *sorry mods, this should probably go in general*

  3. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh There were many Gurudwara Sahibs that were established in East Africa as Singhs emigrated from Punjab during the early 1900s. Wherever Singhs gathered one of the first things that they did was to create a place where they could meet in sadhsangat and sing the praises of Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj. In this way in a remote area called Taboro, Tanzania slowly a Gurudwara Sahib was built brick by brick by the hands of Guru Sahib's Sevaks. The Gurudwara Sahib in Taboro has a plaque attached to it which states, “Singh Sabha 1910”. At one time the Gurudwara Sahib used to be packed with Guru Sahib's Sikhs however as time went on the sangat began to leave this area till eventually only one Sikh family; a husband and wife were left. According to Guru Sahib's hukam the husband passed away one day. Sangat from the capital city Dar Es Salaam came in numbers to help with the Antam Sanskar of the Singh. After an Akhand Path Sahib had been completed and langar served the sangat from Dar Es Salaam told the Kaur that they planned to take Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj to Dar Es Salaam and close the Gurudwara Sahib in Taboro. The Kaur looked at them and said, “Why do you need to do that when I'm here? Don't you know that Guru Sahib has been blessing not only Sikhs but non-Sikhs with darshan for over 80 years. How can you deprive them of that?” “As long as I am alive I will continue to do Guru Sahib's seva as he blesses me with it.” In this way the Kaur continued to stay with Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj in Taboro. 4. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh One time a Sikh had a very strong longing to see the holy charan kamal of Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj. He had heard many stories and praises of the beauty of Guru Sahib from all the people in his village but such were his karams that Guru Sahib hadn't blessed him with darshan yet. One day while the Sikh was in an extreme state of vairaag he was told by a passer that the King of kings, the Saint of saints, Satguru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj was going to pass through Orissa (which is where this Sikh lived) during the next few days. Suddenly the Sikh's heart lit up as he waited impatiently to see Nirankar. Finally the day arrived. So overpowered by the beauty of Maharaj the Sikh, placed his head on the floor and tears of joy began to form a stream of love. The Sikh sat at the feet of Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji and listened with complete focus to Dhurkibani. After spending a few days with the sangat Maharaj then indicated that he intended to visit other villages/cities. When Maharaj was about to go the Sikh fell to his knees, began to shed tears again and did a profound ardas begging Guru Sahib to stay with him always. Maharaj looked at his beloved Sikh, picked him up, held him and said, “My beloved, I am much more than this temporary vessel. If you love me then love my shahbad, love my gurmantar and my mool mantar it is that that is my true form. If you fall in love with that form I promise I will never leave you as I will come and reside in your heart and soul forever.” Loose translation from katha based on the sakhi recorded by Bhai Mani Singh Ji in Sikhan di Bhagat Mal Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh

: Shateeh jug gubaar saa aape ganat keenee: For thirty-six ages, there was utter darkness. Then, the Lord revealed Himself (sggs 949). : Jug shateeh keeou gubaaraa. Too aape jaanahi sirajanahaaraa. Hor kiaa ko kahai ki aakh vakhaanai too aape keemat paaidaa: For thirty-six ages, utter darkness prevailed. Only You Yourself know this, O Creator Lord. What can anyone else say? What can anyone explain? Only You Yourself can estimate Your worth (sggs 1061). : Too karataa aap aganat hai sabh jag vich ganatai: You Yourself, O Creator, is incalculable, while the entire world is within the realm of calculation (sggs 314). : Parr parr pandit jotakee vaad karahi beechar...: After all their reading, the Pandits, the religious scholars, and the astrologers argue and debate. Their intellect and understanding are perverted; they just don't understand (sggs 27). : Bidiaa koti sabhai gun kahai. Taou paarabraham kaa antu na lahai: Millions of sciences all sing His Praises. Even so, the limits of the Supreme Lord cannot be found (sggs 1163). : Oupat paralou prabh te hovai ih beechaaree har janee: This what the Lord's humble servants Reflect or contemplate (Vichaar): the Creation and destruction come only from God (sggs 1186). According to the Gurbani, all calculations of the calculating mind are rooted in Maya (duality and relativist consciousness) and the primitive false ego-sense (Haume). In other words, such calculations serve only fanning one's Haume (ego) and his love for Maya. Other than that they really do not serve any meaningful purpose. : Haou haou karat badhe bikaar: Acting in egotism, one's Bikaaars (mind's negative tendencies) only increase (sggs 1192). : Ganatai prabhoo na paayeeai doojai bharmeetaa: God cannot be obtained by counting; (by doing so the man only) wanders in duality or Maya (sggs 510). : Haumai sabhaa ganat hai ganatai naou sukh naahi: All accounting is in egotism, in these, there is no Peace (sggs 36). 7. It is totally true that Yugas repeat itself, 1. There comes a time after many Kalpas(Consist of many yugas) when Maha Parlaya(under the hukam of Akal Purakh) comes and dissolves everthing in it(even Maya gets dissolved in it. and Only ONE remains.i.e. AKAL PURAKH(as mentioned in Mool Mantar). This is the time when Even Sinner and Good people gets disssolved in Akal Purakh. But this Happens after many kalpas(beyond the imaginations of Devtas, Devis and offcause Human Being). 2. But there are always small Parlaya(sometime, Water Parlya, or Fire Parlaya, or air parlya) usually happens when Yuga Changes, DOesnot happen Suddenly but When you see the Earth, You feel it that World or Earth is Changing. Right Now in the WOrld, Everybody feels it something is happening which is Unusual. 3.Then once again 36 yug Gubbaar Varte, where in Akal Purakh does Creation once again and creates Eka Mai(Maya) and who in turn create Three Maha Devtas(Shiv, Brahma and Vishnu) and give them theeir Duties to create , Sustain and Dissolve the creation. 4. Everything starts again. Hope to see you once again here discussing the same topic at the same time in next Kalyug. ))

  9. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh In Congo, Africa there were a few Sikh families. In a particular area of Congo there lived a Sikh family who had some Muslim neighbours. As so often in that part of the world a civil war broke out. During it many atrocities were committed which included the murder of that particular Sikh family. Their Muslim neighbours had somehow managed to leave the area before the attack. When they returned they searched for any survivors. They found the bodies of the Singh and Kaur but also of their young daughter who miraculously was still alive. The Muslim family took the young daughter with them and managed leave Congo eventually ending up in South Africa. In this way they raised the Sikh daughter as one of their own. They managed to get her educated and eventually sent her to university for further studies. After many years had passed and the Kaur had reached a marriageable age the Muslim family decided to search for a match for her. They wanted the Kaur to marry a Singh and not a Muslim. Unfortunately they could not find any Sikhs in South Africa and as a consequence travelled to Uganda where they knew one Sikh family (farmer) to request their help. When they reached Uganda and narrated their story to the wealthy Sikh farmer. He was so moved by it that he decided there and then that his son would marry their daughter. In this way the Muslim family ensured that the Kaur married a Singh. Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan are that Muslim family. Who in this world could do such a noble act? They must have been angels. Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
