  4. Guru Har Rai Ji was born on 30 January 1630 to Mata Raj Kaur Ji and Baba Gurditta Ji at Kiratpur Sahib. On hearing this news Guru Ji's grandfather, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji went to Kiratpur Sahib. It is said very beautifully that on the way to Kiratpur, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji blessed all sangat and brought them happiness. On holding Guru Har Rai Ji in his arms, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji gave Him many blessings and said "Vaddee Cheez Da Gaahak Aayaa Hai". Sadaa Sang Rakhe : Guru Sahib Ji then settled at Kiratpur. After Baba Gurditta Ji passed away, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji tied a pag to Har Rai Ji and took care of him. He kept Har Rai Ji with him all the time, he educated him on shastar vidiya and also taught him horse riding. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji made Har Rai Ji sit with him while singing kirtan and during reciting of vaaraa : Jab Gur Baith Deewan Me, Bhakhat Katha Vairaag Sadaa Sang Raakhe Prabhu Har Rai Vadd Bhaag Being brought up in the shade of his grandfather, Guru Har Rai Ji learnt humility and love for the sangat. Guru Har Rai Ji respected and took utmost care of every word and bachann that Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji gave. Daaman Sankoch chalo : One day Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and Guru Har Rai Ji went for a walk to a garden. While walking a flower got stuck with the chola of Guru Har Rai Ji’s and fell down. On seeing this Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji explained to Guru Har Rai Ji to take care while walking if wearing a big chola. He further explained if you attain something do not hit over other’s shoulders and walk. Guru Har Rai Ji held on to these words, those bachann with respect all his life. P.S. Please correct the above wherever needed as it is translated from gurmukhi ji.

  6. Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh. Bhai Nand Lal Goya was one of the most outstanding Court poets of the Guru. He was a great Persian and Arabic scholar and his Diwân is a part of the Sikh litterary Canon. Yet only a hand full of Sikhs are knowledgeable about his beautiful works. We wish to change that! In commemorating his 300 year death tricentenary in 2013 we wish to make a website, provide fresh translations, kirtan and recitations of his Perso/arabic/panjabi bani. For this we need help from a wide range of people with various skills, especially website skills, multimedia (video and image), artists etc. If you are interested, or know anyone who is good at making websites, videos and translating from punjabi to english, please send me a PM or write in this thread and we will tell you more about the project. One sample of Nand Lal's craving mystical poetry can be read here. He wrote this once while waiting in the darbaar for Guru Gobind Singh to return: My heart burns in separation of my beloved; My soul is aflame with a passion for him; I am so much enveloped in these flaming emotions; That whoever sees me in this plight burns like pinewood that catches fire. I am not the only one burning in these flames; The whole world around me is ablaze. I am burning on the embers of separation, just as a chemist burns chemicals on a furnace. Blessed be thou O heart of Goya, For being burnt in passionate flames of love. Alexandar Von Humbolt who has translated some of Bhai Nandlal Goya's work in "The Pilgrims Way" has this to say about Nand Lal: "Goya was among the masters who could put in verse what he felt deep within, and like the entirety of his self laid at the sacred feet of the great Guru, the Beloved. And no doubt, those who surrender the self, master the world." Help us in mainstreaming and making the figure of Bhai Nand Lal Goya popular among mainstream Sikhs. In 2013 we mark the 300 year death tricentenary of this majestic soul. Come be a part of this project of reviving the universal message of the Sikh faith.

  9. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh Yes well done Sangat TV for lying, stealing, doing pakhand, airing bhangra, airing ppl drinking and eating meat, having ppl against the panth being presenters, airing other 'sects' on tv who are singing about there own gurus, always starting arguments with Sikh Channel rather than showing a program that may help the sikh youth. getting ppl away from sikhi, the list could go on and on... but yes well done Sangat TV! You deserve a big well done! Please do continue destroying the panth and being an anti panthic channel! Pakhendee TV well done! Instead of keep posting topics about 'bigging up' your channels, why dont you post something that will help you or other peoples sikhi, or if you really wanto advertise a channel then advertise a program that is sikhi related and will help other peoples sikhi. Taloh = Place. Kaeh = Or/etc. Pratt = Them. Deep = Candle like. Sikha = Flame. Vatt = Like that. Taral = Dynamic/temporary. Pankh = Wings. Pavvan = Air. Karr = With. Chappal = Short lived. Sikh/sikha = Candle’s flame. Sant {spiritual people} have taken abode in the jungle/forest where there are no beings. Prashan {question}:- Did they not have beautiful houses for living in? , where were the pleasant holy books? Did they leave their houses as a result of being parted from such books? , or did they not have the company of close beloved ones? Uttar {answer}:- They had all those creature comforts, but they renounced them upon realising that they are all akin to a flickering flame that will be extinguished at any moment. Just a moth’s flapping wings makes the flame more intense but the flame in turn engulfs the moth thus ending its life in this sad manner. In the same way these people have realised that materialism has the same affect on one’s inner peace i.e. are the cause of torment and renounce them as such.{2}. To be continued............

  16. Today while washing my face I noticed something really beautiful. Why don’t our eyebrow hair grow as long as the hair on our head ? This is not a coincidence or mistake by God. Eyebrow hair are there for a reason and are not a “wild growing grass” as it is understood by people today. When God designed the human face, He placed everything as required: our eyes, our nose, our ears, our mouth, then why would God make a mistake with hair on our face. Infact, Sikhi Saroop is the perfect way to say “Waheguru jee, I accept myself as you made me, and I trust you in whatever you do for me. You are my creator, and I am sure you would have given deep thought in making me perfect. Thus, I promise to you that I will keep myself exactly as you intend to see me and not follow the world blindly, to destroy your beautiful creation” This is for people who say that there is no reference of importance of Kesh in Shri Guru Granth Sahib. If you look deeply in Shri Guru Granth Sahib: Kabeer Jee says “Kabeer Keso Keso Kukiye” Even when Kabir jee sees God, the Almighty appears as ‘Keso’ (meaning the one with beautiful hair) Bhulan Chukan Di Khima, Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! http://www.sikh24.com/2011/11/sikhi-saroop-the-sikh-identity/

  18. You should answer this question by shooting from the hip! No lies! No holding back on the truth! Examine the roots of Hinduism and all is revealed. The Brahmins have been operating at the highest posts in India for centuries. Their Religion is more a political tool to control the people of India rather than a credible religion that brings one closer to God. This system is which the Brahmin call 'Hinduism'. This is made up of four casts which the everyday people fall into with the 2% of Brahmin elite at the top. The Brahmin remains at the top regardless of political or economical change. The rest remain to serve this Elite of 2%. Nobody can switch or move up in the Cast system ladder within the Hindu Religion. The only way to achieve this is told by the Brahmins ''do good deeds and then maybe you will be lucky enough to reincarnate into a higher form in your next life''. When we say caste system we remove reality from this word. It is in actual fact four different species of humans selected to do certain jobs decided by the Brahmins. The remaining 3 castes of Hinduism have accepted this system which has been explained and brainwashed to them through centuries. So this leaves the Sikhs in this odd dilemma. Sikhism goes against this unfair system/religion or whatever you want to call it. Sikhs do not belong to this system so have no reason to accept the Brahmin as a superior species. This is where the discrimination stems from because Sikhs are the single most dangerous community in the eyes of the Brahmins. Sikhism challenges the ideology which keeps the Brahmins in power and threatens the lie which India's 3 inferior casts to the Brahmins have accepted. So public enemy number one in post 1947 India are Sikhs, as we remain as the only group that refuses to be absorbed into Hinduism and regard ourselves as equals. Now the discrimination and attacks range from Genocide, Ethnic cleansing, Forced acceptance of the Hindu Marriage Act, Promotion of Drugs and Alcohol, Intense Farming which disrupts the water table and Rivers which are diverted to neighbouring states. The list goes on but the truth is that the non Brahminical Hindus unaware of these policies which are designed to make the Sikhs vanish from this earth. The Hindu's of India have been forced fed this oppressive system for so long and are now in such a deep sleep that they are refusing to question the Brahmins on this religion/system, which is clearly designed by the Brahmins and favours only this so called 'Elite' class of 2% of India. The Sikhs in the mean time will be attacked and discriminated by the Brahmins for refusing to bow down and accept Hinduism. The best way to deal with this monster in my opinion is to tell your fellow Hindus that they too are victims of the Brahmins. They are also exploited and held back from success and the right to be equal. The minute that the non Brahminical Hindus start to do this, they too will feel the discrimination that a Sikh faces in India!

  20. I was fortunate enough to spend two weeks at Sri Hazour sahib during the 300 saal smagam. Words can't explain the "buzz" nor the atmosphere and hanji it does change your life The only phase that comes to mind is it's heaven on earth if you get the opportunity to go make most of it; it's the most amazing experience of a yathra iv ever had (been blessed with a few yathra with Guru jis kirpa).

  22. If you are NOT Amritdhari, and you cut your hair, then you can do pretty much what you like with it. Colouring something is never as bad as cutting it to pieces. If you ARE Amritdhari you could cover it with a patka, or if you want to have the appearance, dignity and grace of royalty then you could wear a distaar?
