  1. Recently, I was thinking about all the kathas of the Sikh gurus (especially of Guru Nanak Dev Ji) that took place in Pakistan and whether there were Gurdwaras still in existence at these sites. It turns out there are 171 historical Sikh gurdwaras across Pakistan, most of which were abandoned in '47 and have since been either destroyed, are close to collapsing, have been converted into mosques (or schools, police stations, etc...), or were demolished in order to build homes. Our heritage is at risk as several historic gurdwaras, places where our gurus set foot, are in states of disrepair. These shrines are a treasure trove of history that we are ignoring. Sure, several gurdwaras in Pakistan have been repaired and brought back to their former glory, unfortunately, hundreds more still remain neglected. Here are some of the Historical Gurdwaras in state of neglect: 1) Gurdwara Chakki Sahib - Where Guru Nanak Dev Ji was imprisoned by Babur 2) Gurdwara Janam Asthan Guru Ram Das Ji 3)Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj Bhai Taru Singh Ji 4) Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj Bhai Mani Singh Ji 5) Gurdwara Damdama Sahib, Gujranwala 6) Gurdwara Chota Nanakiana, Manga, Lahore 7) Gurdwara Janam Asthan, Mata Sahib Kaur Ji, Rohtas, Jhelum 8) Gurdwara Cheevin Patshahi, Guru Mangat, Lahore 9) Gurdwara Sach Khand, Chuhrkhana 10) Gurdwara Nanak Garh, Badami Bagh, Lahore No trace of this Gurdwara remains 11) Gurdwara Pehli Patshahi, Kasur 12) Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi, Hadiara, Lahore These shrines are merely some of the hundreds of gurdwaras in disrepair. In daily ardas, we ask to be once again be allowed 'khule darshan didar' of the gurdwaras 'keft behind'. Today, we have the chance to get back control of these gurdwaras, and this might be the only time to get back our gurdwaras. These crumbling structures won't last for long, and these buildings are under even more threat from the taliban coming in from the west (Afghanistan, Tribal Areas). Lets come together and save our heritage before all of it is turned into homes and schools, and there will only be stories of gurdwaras which once stood west of the Ravi.

  2. On a practical level...bhang was used on the battlefiled in puratan times to numb the pain from an injury and to ensure a speedy recovery due to it being high in anti-oxidants. It had a practical use and was only used in jang/war as a medicine. Today in the UK, people who will never see a battle in their life but "claim" to be maintaining jang-maee maryada...lol Bhang, in moderation was used as medicine on the battlefield in puratan times, like we have a painkillers today (paracetamol/neurofen) but today in UK you have people who drink bhang (Shaheedi Degh) regurlarly, with the sole person of getting high...but keep justifying it by saying they are maintiaing jaag maryada.

  3. Just one correction Bhaji, the Sikhs did NOT abandon these gurdwaras. we were forced out by the muslims. No Sikh wanted to leave their ancestral land. and bhaji you have uploaded some beautiful gurdwaras, but we are unable to download these pictures, becasue i for one, wish to show them to sangat at local gurdwara. can you change them or give us a link where you got them?

  8. I used to be one of 2 gutti singhs in all my schools. Used to get bullied and out numbered but then my mum would tell me about the Shaibzade who fought grown men in battle. I took up Kick-boxing and went onto thai boxing. Since then maharaj kirpa never had any issues. Also i love hitting the gym HARD !!. Be proud of being a Sikh and carry yourself with pride !!!! Another thing to add is to just because you have Kesh never ever feel like you are not trendy !!! Dont be lazy and practice you distar until you have perfected it , maharaj kirpa !!!! Treat your Distar like a crown... After all your wouldn't catch a king or queen with their crown all mashed up and on a tilt !!!!!!!!!

  9. As sevadar jee said while quoting Bhai Rajoana, a Sikh should be strong in his faith but also strong physically. Join the gyms and start some form of martial arts, learn the art of street fighting. Always have 3 Shastars on you that can be effective in a real situation. So if someone messes with you, they will get mashed up so bad that he will regret for life messing with a Singh. Also if you are a Mona or Kesadhari, a Sikh should always stand up for a fellow Sikh. If we don't help each other out who will? it seems times are not good ahead. It's best to prepare for the worst. Just because it happens to others doesn't mean it wont happen to you one day.

  10. There are many Kirtani jathas coming from india very regularly to the uk. Whoever invites them should be encouraging them to uphold gurmat sangeet maryada and spread raag vidiya. This is the duty of the sangat as well, that you should be asking gurdwaras to uphold this maryada as they uphold gurdwara maryada. Or even approach the jatha themselves and do benti for them to do kirtan in raag. Once the sangat get tough and stop giving money to the jathas that dont uphold the maryada, they will soon change. The problem is that we make it too easy for kirtanis to do anything they want.

  11. Very sorry to hear this but Sikhs especially in India (both in and out of Punjab) are giving themselves a week image. With a big Bhangra scene and Floppywood making us look like idiots. If you go to punjab now and say to them to put on a panthic channel on TV they look at you as if you are from Mars or something !, they would rather watch B4U or some other waste of space channel as they are all in some twisted Love triangles.. Trust me i have noticed a MASSIVE change in the way people treat me after coming into sikhi saroop. When i used to trim my beard i constantley used to get into issues with Racist Goreh and Pakistani's. Since growing my Dhara you get a certain level of respect, weather this is out of fear i do not know but it's all maharaj's kirpa and the protection you get when coming into Sikhi Saroop. Look at the Sandesh given by Singh Soorme such as Bhai Rajoana and Bhai Hawara .... Focus on Bani and building up your body so you can protect yourself and our panth when the time comes !! Sangat Ji, Forgive me as i know this does sound harsh but is the truth !!! WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH!!!!!

  12. So we should go back to having Moortis in the Parkarma, women harassed by the poojaris, low castes not allowed in the Gurdwara like it was when the Nihangs were in charge of the Akal Takht? No thanks. I think rehetvaan Singh like Amrik Singh Ajnala should be the Jathadar. He has vidya from Taksal, very active in current Sikh affairs and also rehetvaan. And I'm not even Taksali and I say this.
