  1. Marijuana is an intoxicant. For a GurSikh, the fear of Waheguru is what intoxicates us. Clearly Guru Nanak Dev Ji says that instead of getting intoxicated on marijuana, Sikhs get immersed/intoxicated in Waheguru. 2. No conspiracy veerji. Many innovations and deviations have crept into the Nihangs. Some amrit sanchaars of the Nihangs, they would administer a different Amrit to the so called lower castes. If this isn't an innovation what is? Same way their ritual Bhang and meat consumption is a part of this innovation and deviation. Just look at their Dastars. If one were to look at Nihang Dumallas a 100 years ago they were different and if you go back 100 year even before that they were even more different. So to say Nihangs of today are unchanged for the last 300 years is simply not true, sad fact is chan

Jathedar Baba Hanuman Singh Ji Shaheed Fresco of Baba Hanuman Singh Ji at Gurdwara Baba Atal Rai, Amritsar Akaali Baba Hanuman Singh Ji, The 7th leader of the Budha Dal, was born to Baba Garja Singh Ji and Mata Harnam Kaur Ji in November 1755. Baba Ji fought in many great battles under the leadership of Akaali Baba Naina Singh Ji and Akaali Baba Phula Singh Ji (the 5th and 6th Jathedars of Budha Dal). After the Shaheedi of Akaali Phula Singh Ji at Naushera in 1823, Baba Hanuman Singh Ji became the leader of the Akaali Nihangs, as well as the Jathedar of Akaal Takht Sahib at the age of 68

  4. It's not a matter of whether the story is propogated by the UK n.angs or the Nihangs in India. It is about whether the story has an basis in reality. Maharaja Ranjit Singh had clipped the power of the Nihangs after Akali Phula Singh. so much so that the majority had shifted to Anandpur Sahib from Amritsar. Hence the possibilty that there are two mountains in the picture of Hanuman Singh implying that he would have spent most of his in the hills or that his base was there. We need to understand that an armed force of 15,000 or if we go by Nihang oral tradition 32,000 is a large number for that

  5. People do come up with fantasy stories especially when it concerns Nihangs. The reasons given for the murderous assault on Maharja Ranjit Singh was due to his allowing the British representatives to enter Punjab. If the Nihangs were so far sighted then why did they not assassinate the Dogras? It was the Lahore army which killed Hira Singh Dogra. The story about Sham Singh Attariwala appears to be an attempt to brush some of the glory of Sham Singh onto Hanuman Singh. Sham Singh had been a great general of the Khalsa army, he was a Jagirdar who would have paid for and supplied a jagirdari conti

  9. The Mongols often won before hand to hand fighting began because they would kill most of the opponent's army from a distance with their arrows. It's not the drug that wins the battle. It was superior battle tactics and professionalism introduced by Chingiz Khan that made the Mongols invincible. One needs to look no further than than India and see the example set by the Rajputs. The Rajput warriors were a very brave fighting army but before battle they would get drunk with Bhang. When facing the alert Pathans or Turks, the great Rajputs would often lose despite having superior numbers because

  10. Drinking Bhang is a deviation on the part of the Nihangs. Drinking Bhang is not a Guru created tradition. But over time this deviancy crept into the Sikh ranks. I suspect it must have originally been used after the battle to give to injured Sikh soldiers as a pain killer. But some may have gotten addicted to this and slowly Bhang turned into a permanent (yet deviant) tradition amongst the Nihangs. This is seen with many religious traditions through out the world where deviations and innovations creep into old religious orders and over time these very same deviations and innovations turn into f

  12. For some reason, when I saw this picture, and since it comes 2 weeks after Muslims performed Namaz outside our local Gurdwara Sahib, it made me feel as though Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj was smiling upon this planet right now, and whispering to Himself "This is how I really wanted things to be!". Another newspiece - Yesterday Muslims were having a Namaz session in Uttarakhand Gurudwara (northern India). Due to heavy rains 800 people could not do prayers in open area, so the Sikh community opened the Gurudwara gates for them to perform Namaz. Too bad the haters on here will need to fi

I have been thinking about it for years but I have been putting it off due to the feeling/concern/fear that I won't be accepted and maybe even attacked (verbally and even physically). As I have heard countless stories of attacks on Sikhs in New York. I remember reading somewhere that a study was done and it found that 60 per cent of New York sikh school children are harrassed on a daily basis. I have told some of my peers my concerns (mostly non sikhs so they probably can't understand) and they te

  19. Kalsingh, when someone asks you your religion, do you say your a Sikh? Because then your personal reasons become wider as people get their impression of religions based on the people they meet, people like you and me. Just hoping the lack of dastaar doesn't bring the pride of the Sikh image down. Just saying cuz I've seen kids in high school with a full beard and no dastaar or patka, only a joora and it did not look nice at all. I was even embarrassed. :s

Don’t worry I’ll give you hugs before and after, feed you, and get you stitched up and become your best friend also. Those who give you the clichéd “accept you for who you are”…don’t have a clue what a beautiful person you are. Right now bro, despite having no style, you may be a better human than me and I’ll respect you for that. However, you are not a keshdhari Sikh when you walk around in public without a dastar. Please don’t tell people that. It is insulting to the legacy of our Guruji’s and such pre

When the Kharkoos took over the complex in 1986 that general feeling was that the miltants had taken their rightful place after the GOI had done it's worst to remove them in 1984. 26. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh I honestly sometimes feel that the only way to survive being a doctor is by having a good foundation in Sikhi. The pressure at medical school and during your job can only be overcome with Guru Ji's help. So many people look to drugs or alcohol as a way to de-stress. They are so unfortunate... It's a shame that your parents see your Amrit as being a hinderance when in actual fact you've been blessed with something which will help you through any situation in life. Time management is critical. Don't leave assignments or revision until the last minute

  27. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh To help with this question, go back to Guru Nanak Dev Ji's experience with Bhai Lalo. He ate with Bhai Lalo, not because Bhai Lalo was a 'Sikh' or a particular caste, but because he was an honest, humble person with a beautiful soul. To say that Sikhs should only eat from the hands of other Sikhs is the same as saying Brahmins can only eat from Brahmins. This completely erases the values of Gurbani. True Sikhs do not segregate people based on their religion or their caste or their nationality or any other thing. What we do is use our Bibek Buddhi (

"Master," said Mardana, "you teach a way for every person to find liberation. But many of those who listen still seem to spend much of their time in conflict, and in seeking out excitement and other idle pursuits. Why do they waste away their lives so?" "Most people don't recognize its value," replied the Guru, "although human life
