  1. Fools media. Bitter truth is that majority of sikh community are ghonay monay, meat eater and some sharabi-kababi... whether they r in east or west. Time will come when such people will start advocating that drinking is fine too. In India trend is already started that monay can run for religious elections and can become actual care taker of all historic gurdwaras.

  3. I think stressing about what other Sikhs do is never the answer. The answer is-; 1. Improve you self and do not be a hypocrite like the ones you might see around you 2. Influence the people around you, parents, siblings, cousins, friends etc to improve themselve 3. Don't stress about the Sikhs you have little or no interaction with and over whom you will never have influence If enough Sikhs do this then there will be a lot less hypocrites amongst us.

  5. gorillas are vegetarian and also have "canine" teeth.... As for jhatka, i view that as a completely different thing than regular meat eating b/c khalsa is allowed to do jhatka when there is majhboori (and not for taste). So I don't see that as an issue.

  8. Humans also evolved to be lusty and make as many offspring as possible. Humans evolved to be greedy. Of course God made me this way so I can do as I like. Wrong. Sikhi teaches to rise above these animalistic things and be something higher. We could all use excuses of "god made me this way" to avoid/do things. A "sucha Sikh" is a true Sikh if that person follows all the Gurus instructions.

  9. Gurmukho this bibi is a nastik. Her understanding of Gurbani is very low, she is no different than Sarbjit Singh Dhunda. Gurbani tells us to keep traveling forward and we will be able to see the picture more clearly. But this Bibi has stopped growing in Sikhi and she holds a nastik view point. In all honestly I would tell a person to get spiritual wisdom from a Buddhist monk than this Bibi. Look how many fake Guru's had setup their own deras when Satguru Sri Guru Teg Bahudar Sahib Ji Maharaj was being seeked for. Today these same fake Guru's (nastik people) have step up their own deras. They have made dharma (religion) subject to the world's laws. They have put it in a little locked box and have thrown away the key. Focus on reading Gurbani, pronounication, understanding Gurbani in context, and stay away from people that have made this world their God, which includes this bibi.

  10. Here is one strong reference. With our impure conscious it's very hard for us to concentrate on naam. The whole purpose if naam simran is to clean our dirty vikaari mind or mann. Then a stage comes when ur mind becomes pure and u connect to god easily without any special effort because your consciousness becomes pure and at that stage which the according to the above example just like the clothes stained with blood are impure then now can a body and the soul and its consciousness be pure? It will give birth to more vikaars and you will be stopper by them to meditate on naam. This level we cannot experience yet because our manns are yet very dirty. We have vikaars already sticked to us and if we keep polluting our soul with this impure food we will never get to that point.

  11. I respect you for the understanding you have about alchohal and I wont hesitate to call u brother and i will say trust me same is the case with meat. Ur medical knowledge is good but u also need to read spiritual life stories of sant/mahapurashs who knows how meat is a big hindrance between us and God. U simply cannot walk on Gurmat path with meat and u should listen to Guru Sahib and do not think that your medical knowledge is above than anyone. Guru Sahib made us and he is forbidding us from eaiting meat. Story ends here. Now its ur choice what you like to do. Listen to Guru and accept his hukam or keep thinking about ur canine.

  12. It is a shame that we are still trapped in this confusion on eating or not. When there is no daya there is no dharam. The butcher has no pity while killing the animal and because he kills them for the consumer, the consumer also has to give lekha for this. The consciousness of animals is same as that for humans and that for plants it is very little to nothing and for rocks the consciousness is zero. Eating fruits and vegetables is not same as eating meat. If eating meat is religious what is then non-religious? The truth is that the person eating meat cannot concentrate on naam and if you think this is not true then prove me wrong.

  14. "Something that is dead". It's only dead because you killed it. Let's not act like it's killed by another animal for food, lightning, roadkill, etc. It's dead because you deliberately killed it. Look, the fact is that other animals don't have a choice. You'll never see a lion eating grass deliberately. You'll never see a goat or deer eating meat deliberately. It's not their nature to do that. And other omnivores don't have a choice either. They eat both meat and vegetarian. They don't have the choice in their genes to stop eating one or the other completely. Humans do. And which "GuruS" used to hunt? Please let me know, as you put it in plural form. What is the historical/literary evidence of this? And if they did hunt, and also ate the meat, please let me know where I can find that information. Also, if they ate the meat, surely 90% of the other Sikhs ate it as well right? So, that means there should be evidence of Sahibzaadey, Panj Pyaarey, Baba Deep Singh Jee, Bhai Mani Singh Jee, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, Mata Gujjar Kaur Jee eating meat too. Where in literary evidence is this stated? And in what context? In times when nothing else was available? Or did they eat it daily/weekly/monthly?

  16. You are referring to the lines by Bhagat Kabir. He was criticizing the practice of Halaal meat preparation. They slit the animal's throat and slowly let it bleed to death, while they recite a prayer from the Quran. That is why he asks " Would you slit your own throat, to have meat with your bread?" Killing in the name of God is never a righteous action. If it was, then all butchers would be mahapurakhs, as Kabir ji has said. Can you please provide that hukamnamma? I have never come across it. As far as I know, Akal Takht does not prohibit meat eating. They only prohibit halaal meat (and kosher meat defacto).

  17. Han ji, I was speaking from a Sikh point of view. We don't cut our hair because god has given it as a gift to all humans. With the same logic, God has made humans meat eaters. We have canine teeth, meant for tearing flesh. I am adding points from a scientific background, in addition to the points from Gurbani stated by the woman in the video. Why do we have to bring Hindu deities into a discussion about meat eating? Why don't we read Guru Granth Sahib, instead of the Hindu scripture Katha Upanishad? It doesn't make sense to look towards Hindu scriptures for guidance, and then turn around and say that we are not Hindus.

  20. SIKHS WIN AND EXERCISE RIGHT TO WEAR THE KIRPAN WHEN ENTERING THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT IN BRUSSELS TO MEET MEPs 24 January 2013 The Sikh Federation (UK) started to organise the mass lobbying of MEPs by visiting them at the European Parliament in Brussels around eight years ago. Around 250 Sikhs from across Europe attended the first ever lobby and after initially agreeing to allow Amritdhari Sikhs to wear the Kirpan when entering the main European Parliament building this decision was reversed on the morning of the first lobby. UK MEPs informed Sikhs taking part in the lobby this restriction was as a direct result of pressure on the Secretary General responsible for administration from the Indian Ambassador based in the European Parliament by suggesting a ban on the Kirpan was appropriate. The Indian authorities did not want Sikhs lobbying about human rights abuses in India e.g. the case of Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar, or issues related to the Sikh identity and were prepared to go to extreme lengths to try and stop Sikhs lobbying by asking for the Kirpan to be banned. Given the opposition from India the Sikh Federation (UK) encouraged Sikhs to take a stand by organising an annual lobby at the European Parliament in Brussels. Initially the Sikh Federation (UK) organised venues adjacent to the Parliament building so MEPs were encouraged to meet Sikhs from across Europe. However, in addition smaller groups of Sikhs, including Amritdharis wearing the Kirpan, successfully entered the European Parliament following pressure from MEPs setting a precedent that this was possible. UK MEPs continued to exert pressure and this resulted in a large conference room holding around 300 being made available each year in the Eastman Building of the European Parliament complex where Sikhs were allowed to wear the Kirpan. However, very few MEPs other than those from the UK were prepared to leave the main European Parliament building to speak in the inconveniently located Eastman Building. The issue remained that large numbers of Amritdhari Sikhs could not freely enter the main European Parliament building to meet MEPs for pre-arranged meetings so Sikhs have been protesting each year. One year Sikh men, women and children protested with MEPs by holding a peaceful sit down protest blocking two of the three entrances to the main European Parliament building. This attracted considerable media attention and highlighted the issue and created pressure for change. In recent years the Sikh Federation (UK) has not been arranging large lobbies, but instead sending Sikhs to speak at events or meet MEPs as necessary. This was also in part as Sikhs in many mainland European countries have been unable to establish the sorts of links Sikhs have had with UK MEPs. However, in the last 12 months the Sikh Federation (UK) has been establishing its own network across Europe and setting up sister organisations to get Sikhs more active in engaging with politicians. The two-day lobby organised by the Sikh Federation (UK) at the start of this week was therefore the first test of the working of this set up. The Sikh Federation (UK) appealed to its contacts in Italy, Germany, France, Belgium etc. to keep numbers to around five representatives from each country. This was deliberate as the Federation wanted a much more focused lobby with around a dozen meetings over the two days and to test whether Sikhs could exercise the right to enter the European Parliament (and European Commission) in relatively large numbers while wearing their Kirpans. The Sikh Federation (UK) is delighted to announce that Sikhs having taken a robust stand on the wearing of the Kirpan when entering the European Parliament and European Commission buildings have in effect had the restriction on the Kirpan removed for pre-arranged meetings when it is known who will be in attendance. Behind the scenes work involving MEPs, especially in the last 12 months with those responsible for security, meant that all turban wearing Sikhs Amritdhari or not were fully respected and had all security waived when entering the European Parliament and at the two European Commission meetings.

  21. We need to eat something. The Guru was sad because he broke the flower off for no reason other than being clumsy, even though the plant cannot feel anything, Guru Har Rai felt sad that he had damaged it. Bacteria are NOT animals. Bacteria is neither plant nor animal. Plants are in Kingdom Plantae. Animals are in Kingdom Animalia. In a five-kingdom classification system, bacteria are in Kingdom Monera. Bacteria are not plants mainly because bacteria are prokaryotic -- no nuclei or membrane-bound organelles inside their cells. Besides I've never seen a bacteria or plant pull its roots out and start running when I approach it. Have you? The musical instruments are supposed to be made of already dead animals? In India dead cows were put in a field for vultures to eat. The tanners would come and take the skin. I asked this question at the place I purchased my tabla and the owner said it was from animals that died a natural death. I am not sure about the survival bit. From katha I have heard Singhs survived off tree and bark while hiding out in forests and small amounts of cholay. I guess they didn't need food to sustain them. They just needed naam. I have asked myself the hair question. I think it is for spiritual reasons. All sants and holy men would keep their hair. Rom simran happens when hair vibrates to simran. Also the identity part. We are sants and soldiers so we have the hair and the weapons for it.

  22. Regarding Guru Sahib hunting, Sri Guru Hargobind ji and Guru Gobind Singh did kill few animals but not for the fun or for flesh but for ''udhaar''. If you are not familiar with this I recommend you to read janam sakhis where they tell the previous life of the soul and why did they become an animal -e.g. Moola Khatri became a rabbit and Guru Gobind Singh ji did his udhaar in the land of Nanded. I am not planning to repeat everything so for comparing eating plants and animals I ask you to read my first post for this topic.

  23. Let's take a look at Guru Har Rai Ji. As a young child Guru Sahib was running in the flower garden at Kiratpur Sahib. He was wearing a Chola (cloak). While running the cloak brushed passed some flowers, thus the flowers were damaged. Guru Hargobind ji explained: "Always walk and move with care. Look after and manage your cloak and ensurtre that it doesn't hurt or damage anything in its path. Guru Sahib promised his grandfather, that he would in the future be careful in his responsibilities towards man, animals and plants. This was just for a flower. What do you expect would happen if it was an animal? ਨਿਰਦਇਆ ਨਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਉਜਾਲਾ ॥ ਬੂਡਤ ਬੂਡੇ ਸਰਬ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥੪॥ You have no compassion; the Lord’s Light does not shine in you. You are drowned, drowned in worldly entanglements.(4)

  32. Alcohol is a natural by-product of anaerobic fermentation. Chances are pretty good that you are consuming some alcohol when you eat dhaee (yogurt). Sikhs are not supposed to drink alcohol because it alters your state of mind, and once again leaves no room in your consciousness for God. Alcohol is not toxic in itself, but too much alcohol is. Too much vitamin A can also be toxic, but it is not inherently a toxic substance.

  34. Prove you wrong, in regards to your statement that consumption of meat is an obstacle in the path to God. To prove something, you need proof, i.e. evidence. What evidence do you want me to provide in regards to a path to God? The subject itself requires faith and logic, not evidence. Absence of proof is not proof of absence. Thus, you can't prove me wrong either. I will offer this to you: If humans are the highest form of incarnation, then at some point we were incarnated as an animal that ate meat. How was that meat eating animal able to move up the hierarchy and eventually attain this human form?

  41. The few times I've caught him on the radio he's always struck me as a very disingenuous presenter. What he does is he asks a question to a guest or the audence, but you can tell from his tone, his inflection, the way he follows up, etc., he simply isn't listening to the other person when they reply. He just follows the script or an outline of where he wants the discussion to go, and just steams through regardless. You may as well have a robot presenting if that's the way you want to conduct a debate or discussion. One thing I've noticed about the AN, particularly their head news anchor (the names escapes me but she is a female) hasn't got a clue on how to regulate her voice and tailor it according to the type of news she's delivering. Now, I'm no expert and I've only noticed these things after listening to decent radio stations who train their speakers up in a professional manner, but this lass delivers what is generally considered to be bad news by perking-up her voice at the end of a sentence, lol! You're not meant to do that in radio or TV for that matter! For example when someone has been murdered, the news reporter should adopt a grave tone, and then speak slowly, gradually ending the report on a lower octave than when he/she began that particular report. What this girl does is start off chirpy and then ends like she's announcing her chacha has won the lottery! "Yesterday in London, a 40 year old man was STABBED TO DEATH!". It's so infuriatingly unprofessional but funny to listen to. Yes, this is how I get my giggles.

And 25 years later some things still have not changed. That is exactly why secular upbringing of our youth is so wrong. Sikh children need to grow up knowing and understanding their religion and doing paath etc. That is the only way to save our future generations in the west or else secularism will eventually dilute and finish our future. A street gang like shere punjab can only go so far. Until we change the mindset of our girls(and boys) from childhood the next 25 years will pass off with further weakening of our people.

  44. YOU READ MY MIND! I was going to post this topic yesterday but just kept on delaying. This Keertan is so amazing! Dasam Granth for life, Sarbloh Granth for life! Bhai Gurmeet Singh Jee Shaant is sooooo underrated. I was so happy to see that he got a spot as Hazoori Raagi at Darbar Sahib a couple of months ago. To me, I wish he got Padamshri and all other awards and stuff. Dr Gurnam Singh Jee as well. After doing Keertan at Darbar Sahib in the evening, he then went to Ludhiana with his Jathaa and did Keertan from 9:45pm to 11:00pm at Gurdwara Dukh Nivaaran Sahib Ludhiana. I am telling you, it was MIND BLOWING. It's one of the best Keertan recordings you will ever hear in your life! It was so amazing. He talked in between and explained things to the Sangat. He went hardcore into Raags and classical. He did a huge and very long Jaikaaraa as well. At the end he was supposed to finish his turn but the next raagi group didn't arrive from Darbar Sahib yet, so he had a few minutes to do 2 more Shabads. He said approximately "we are in Guru Granth Sahib's Darbaar and that once our turn is finished, we don't just get up and leave if the next group hasn't arrived. It is our duty to keep Keertan Akhand, and so we will continue to do Keertan as per Guru Ghar Maryada". And boy did he ever. The last Shabad he did was particularly from Raag Taranas I believe (I could be wrong, but he himself said something like Taranas). He said that he hasn't sung that Shabad in quite some time. I have a very very small clip (last few seconds) of that Shabad, as I was scrambling to find some way to record the Keertan one way or another and was able to get the last few seconds. I will try posting it. I am BEGGING ANYONE, who has the full audio or video recording of it, to please post it! I e-mailed Akal Multimedia and the Gurdwara contact form online as well, but no reply just yet. There must be someone that has recorded it, whether from home, or in person in the Gurdwara as part of the Sangat. It was too amazing to have not recorded. I don't have a youtube account, so, if someone does have a youtube account, could someone post in the comments section of the following videos to ask the users if they have the recording? "Kirtan Pardhana" has this from the night before: So there may be a chance that he has it. Also "Kaur090690" also has many of his videos and may have it as well as she has recorded Dukh Nivaran Sahib Ludhiana Keertan before as well: Please if anyone can contact those and any other youtube users/posters through their youtube accounts, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, to all those Dasam Granth and Sarbloh Granth haters, Bhai Gurmeet Singh Shaant himself said that we all know that Guru Gobind SIngh Jee is a warrior and won 17 wars, but we don't look into the rest of our history and heritage. He said that Guru Gobind Singh Jee was a master of music as well and knew nearly 300 raags. Sure, Guru Granth Sahib Jee has many Raags. But Dasam Granth has many as well, and Sarbloh Granth the most. It is not only Bhai Gurmeet Singh Jee who has said this. Dr Gurnaam Singh Jee was/is (today is his last day) in Toronto, Canada. And two weeks ago he himself said that exact same thing, that Guru Gobind Singh Jee knew two-hundred-something raags and that Sikhs have a whole treasure chest that they have not even begun to explore. Throughout Dr Gurnaam Singh Jee's time in Toronto, he would get many requests from Sangat to sing Shabads from Dasam Granth and Sarbloh Granth and he did sing them and give explanations in between. He's amazing too. Also Professor Surinder Singh Jee (Raj Academy) respects and believes in Guru Gobind Singh Jee's Bani as well. Dr. Gurnaam Singh Jee and Bhai Gurmeet Singh Jee have a huge knowledge of Dasam Granth and Sarbloh Granth. They are doing a huge service of countering the missionaries (whether intentionally/unintentionally through Keertan. Most raagis and parchaaraks respect Dasam Granth and Sarbloh Granth. Those that want to brainwash Sikhs and get them divided on non-issues are in the minority. Dhan Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Jee. The King of Kings. A son. A grandson. A father. A husband. A warrior. A forgiver. A humble servant. A Guru. A chelaa. A Saint. A Soldier. A master of weaponry. An inventor of musical instruments. A master of musical melodies. A master poet. A master of languages. etc etc etc..... People are continually trying to show Guru Gobind Singh Jee as only a warrior and nothing else. MohanDas Gandhi tried that and failed. Many before and after him tried and failed as well. Today, the missionaries are trying as well to take away his Bani to remove the evidence of his masterful grip on knowledge, ethics, morals, poetry, language, arts, crafts, skills, music, etc. Guru Gobind Singh Jee's Bani is a true treasure. The missionaries will fail too. I hope. Dhan Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Jee.

  46. As said by singh1234567 don't eat before you do your nitem as it is actually hukham. Basically by doing nitem and then eating your feeding your soul by doing your nitem 1st and then feeding your body by physically eating breakfast etc after. (That's how I taught myself and got into the routine of doing paat before I have breakfast at first and it did the trick lol). I'd also suggest you push yourself to complete nitem because just like how at amrithsanchar we are blessed with amrith same way every morning when we do our nitem we are feeding our soul with amrith (if iv said this slightly wrong someone please feel free to correct me). Another thing is try to wake up early, the earlier you wake up the more likely you are to be able to focus. Best of luck

  47. Ghatak Jee, which Rehras Sahib is sampooran? is it the Panthic one? Mehta one, Bhinderkalaan one, Hazoor Sahib one, Nihang one? all these different groups say their is sampooran and the other one is not. As for Dasam Granth's parkash, I am a dasam granth supporter but what is the logic of doing parkash of it like SGGSJ? This is not a Guru made tradition. It is a man made tradition. Guru Made is Gurmat, Man Made is Manmat. History of witness that during the time of Dasam Guru, his bani was in different pothis, was the Panth weaker during the time of Guru Gobind Singh Je? you be the judge of that. Bhai Mani Singh Jee later on collected dasam bani and compiled it into a single granth. Then after Sukha Singh Mehtab Singh killed Massa Rangar it was made clear from that point on ward that all of Dasam Bani would remain a single granth. Still today with our understanding of these facts if we do parkash of Dasam Granth you will only be giving these Kala Afghanis/missionaries a chance to point a finger on us and further insult the Dasam Granth.

  48. To our fellow Hindu brothers, particularly hinduveer, musicman, dogra et all When I came here in 2003, I was a clean-shaven Brahmin. Yes, that is correct, I belong to a Punjabi Brahmin family, and was blessed with the Amrit of Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee Maharaj in 2004. I found extremely loving Sangat on this forum who helped me reach where I am today. Today those same loving Singhs and Singhnees have made a good-for-nothing like me an administrator of this forum. Guess what, my views back then were not too different from what you guys say today. But after being slapped by the ugly truth in the face, I laugh at myself and the views I had back then. Your anguish at some of the posts over here is understandable as I have been in your shoes in the past. My question is, how about you guys try to be in the shoes of those you argue with? Have you been members of a minority community in your own country? Have you been made fun of throughout your childhood and youth just because you belong to a particular community? Have you gone through a period in human history where the religious appearance of your community became a target to be eliminated? Are there forces attempting to distort the history, philosophy and teachings of your religion? Are there forces out there propagating doctrines that are exactly opposed to what your religion teaches? I could go on and on, but this is just a small fraction of what Sikhs go through. When you don't know what the other person has dealt with or been through, please do not make any assumption. Sikhs have been more than patient towards everything that has been thrown at them since 1947. But this patience should never be tested beyond a point. Don't get me wrong, neither am I a spokesperson for the Sikhs, not do I speak for all Sikhs on this forum. I don't know any of you personally, so I can't be sure what kind of lives you've lived, and if you've faced any of the scenarios listed above. But lets get one thing straight. For the most part, you probably don't have much of an idea regarding what Sikhs have been through. This forum is thus a platform for you to learn and discuss, rather than get into meaningless arguments. Let me also emphasize that this is a Sikh forum. As long as the messages posted are in accordance with Gurmat and/or Gurbani, and since Gurbani is the topmost authority for us, we are least bothered as to how offended someone would feel as a result of our Gurmat views. It is never our intention to hurt a single soul, it is in fact a sin to do so. However, if the truth in Gurbani shatters someone's false pride, we are not at all concerned about that. We will continue to speak the truth, come what may. While we do respect other faiths, don't think that by posting quotes from your religious scriptures you can justify anything to us, because as stated above, as far as Sikhs are concerned, Gurbani is the final word. You are more than welcome to abide by whatever philosophy/knowledge is contained in your holy scriptures. You may share that knowledge with us as well, as that would also be an educative process. However, we are under no obligation to adhere to those esteemed philosophies. Posting quotes from non-Sikh scriptures just to disprove what is said in Gurbani will get you nothing but a permanent ban from this website. So far I don't see it done directly, and I hope we don't need to ban anyone because of that reason. Now a request for our fellow Sikh brothers (you didn't see this coming, did you?) I am not sure how many of you grew up among/with Hindus or other non-Sikhs, probably which is why it is easy to demonize them as a foe (for some of you at least). Not every Hindu is out there to prove that Sikhi is a part of Hinduism. Not every Hindu is an RSS agent with ulterior anti-Sikh motives. Not every Hindu wishes chaos on the Khalsa Panth. Yes, what happened in 1984 was done by people who claimed to be Hindus. We have labeled Chandu, Gangu, Indira Gandhi, Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler etc. as Hindus. What about Longowal, Badal, Gen. Brar, KP Gill, and Beant Sio? Why do we say that they are not Sikhs? Isn't this two-faced hypocrisy? If you guys post hateful stuff about any non-Sikh community on a Sikh forum, do you really expect them to sit silent? How do you blame them if they come here and kick up a fuss? Every couple of months I see a thread where someone posts a link to a discussion forum on a Hinduism or Islamic website where people are talking garbage about Sikhs or Sikhi. And then we are encouraged to go and post over there! Why the irritation when the tables are turned? You think only we have the right to get mad when our faith is insulted? Aren't others also human beings? Don't they get hurt and offended when we have threads on this forum that serve only the purpose of mocking someone's religious beliefs? Think about it, and remember the phrase that we all learnt as kids, that do unto others as you would like them to do to you. You want others to respect Sikhi and leave your forums alone, YOU NEED TO STOP MAKING FUN OF EVERYTHING THAT THEY REGARD AS HOLY. Is that clear? If there is anymore thread on this forum that mocks ANY religion (Sikhi or any other), the person who initiates that thread, and anyone who replies in that thread will be banned permanently by me, no matter you are born a Hindu or a Sikh. Please feel free to grade this post as negatively as possible. The only way out for you is if I am taken off the administratorship of this forum. Until I am around, you speak one more word of hate, and you will beg to see the face of Sikhsangat.com. This is the last warning for ALL you haters out there. Either learn to respectfully agree to disagree with compassion with a fellow human being, or quit posting on this site. I promise you, you will not be missed for a second. - Mehtab Singh
