  1. What's the question? What are you referring to because I don't see anything wrong in that picture? The only thing that is questionable is that she is using the dagga with her left hand instead of the right, but other than that she seems to have a good looking kaali taali dhol. Do you use amb wood or something?

  3. Waheguruji ka khalsa Waheguruji ki fateh ji Dear Sangat ji There have been a couple of posts enquiring about Keertan Notations. Therefore, I'd like to start a thread dedicated to keertan notations alone. Any notations in previous posts in other threads will be pasted here along with some others. One post will have a keertan notation for one shabad alone. If anyone would like to request notations for a particular shabad they wish to learn, please PM me or start another thread. I request anyone to refrain from any kind of discussions on this thread so we could keep it for notations alone. Thank you.

  4. Good to see my fellow brothers and sisters standing up against intimidation, fascism, bullyism, shariaism. Shariaism has no place in sikhi, those who advocate aurenjeb style shariaism in sikhi should move to afghanistan and join their brethrens talibans..they both make a good couple/match...!!

She hasn't done anything to anyone has she, so i dont know why she has to be judges like this Only true statement is regardless of what anyone says she herself knows she is singhni and a beautiful one at that

  6. I'd really like to know YOUR personal opinion about it. Why is there a need to post a bibi's photo (needless to say, without her permission ofcourse!) and ask the public whether 'it' is okay or not? Which part are you asking about? Bhenji's dumalla? the dhol? the public? or the bigger picture that's been cropped off where there is possibly gatka being played? Also, you should have specified it in your first post that you need an Amritdhari-only input. After some of the members of this site's community have already answered you decide to throw in some rules. I think it's very insulting! Extremely immature! Finally, I'll give my views after we've seen your's. "Come on, don't be meesna," Editted: This is not the first time I've seen this bibi's picture. There's loads of hers circulating on Facebook where even monay guys have commented that they shouldn't be wearing dumalla with jeans etc. Height of hypocrisy, this is!

  7. Mehtab Singh Ji, even Jan Sangh (today's BJP) was passively involved/happy with Nov. 1984 Genocide. BJP was in power for 5 years with Atal Bihari Vajpayee as PM in centre along with support of SAD(Badal) with promises such as punishing the 1984 Genocide prior to coming to power - any action? My opinion - A Genocide perpeterator of 1 minority can't be a justice provider to another minority. This is similar to Muslims favouring Congress in some elections with an attitude, since Congress committed Genocide of Sikhs, it will seek justice for us.

  8. Baba Hari Singh ji is at the forefront of tackling missionary prachar. If they undermine his moral legitimacy than they win a big victory in promoting their gundh, as many people who listen to him would stop believing him.

  9. I wanted to start this topic for a long time finally got chance to finally get around it. It's well know fact there were manji system (centers establishment where gursikhs were chosen to do parchar) was started by Guru Amar das ji, they were 22 manjiya intially strategically placed everywhere in india to do parchar. Here is the list of manjiya http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Manji_System and there were manjiya given to sikh woman as well to do parchar to other woman and give them empowerment. So i thought start this thread dedicated to sikh female parcharikhs/sants..hope others can contribute as well.. It's hard to find sikh woman parchariks/saints but if one looks carefully one can find it. This is much needed at this time and age as we believe in equality for sikh women and empowerment to sikh woman. Modern day great sikh woman parcharikhs and saints: 1. Bibi Santosh Kaur (blessed by sant maharaj baba isher singh ji rara sahib himself to do parchar) 2. Sant ranjit kaur ji (wife of sachkhand vasi sant waryam singh ji ) http://www.ratwarasahib.com/data/images1/m.jpg 3. Swawi Preetam Hari http://www.sikhee.com/audio/Katha/Preetam%20Jyoti%20Ji/Jup%20Mun%20Satnam/02-Punj%20Taran%20Deean%20Birteean.mp3 Thats all for now..i used to have priceless powerful pictures of some great female sikh sants inspired by sant baba poran singh ji kerichowale..i lost all the pictures :( due to hard drive crash.i will try to find it again....if any of the member (like freed among others) saved it, please post it on here..!! Please share your pictures/biographies of both puratan and modern day sikh female parcharikhs and saints.

  10. Over the years I've wondered what the 'story' was about the 52 humans I.e. how, when, where they were introduced to the kaum.. I've heard various stories ..some contradictory of other each other. Its only fairly recently I came across : The Sikhism code of conduct. Reht Maryada, is based on 52 hukams or edicts issued by TenthGuru Gobind Singh in 1708 in Nanded and sent to the Sikhs living in Kabul and Hazoor Sahib. The 52 hukamnamas or edicts giving instruction on appropriate behavior were written by order of Guru Gobind Singh and copied down by Baba Raam Singh Koer whose great grandfather was Bhai Baba Buddha. Guru Gobind Singh affixed his personal seal to the document, a copy of which can be seen at historic Indian Gurdwara Paonta Sahib. (Source: http://sikhism.about.com/od/gurugobindsing1/qt/52-Edicts-Of-Guru-Gobind-Singh.htm) Anyone got an image as I've not had darshan of Paonta Sahib? PS this isn't a post cast any doubt about the hukams (i believe all 52 are spot on) just would love to see the document and seal of guru ji.

  11. People might not like what I have to say... but to be honest, sometimes we have to accept that people sometimes learn best from making their own mistakes. If the relationship with the guy is fresh then you might be able to get someone to talk her out of it but if she has been dating or whatever for a long time then I am not sure she will be willing to take on board advice. I think we all go through a phase, when we are growing up, we think we know everything we need to know but we don't. If you can't talk to her, maybe write her a letter, expressing your concerns but then leave it up to her to respond, don't chase her for a reply... at least she will know how you feel. If she is into drinking/ clubbing etc then she clearly needs a change of sangat and as a guy, not sure you would be in the best position to instigate that, perhaps if you have a cousin that is around her age or slightly older could talk to her, I think that might work. Personally, I wouldn't approach an older aunty or uncle because 1. I doubt she will open up to them 2. I imagine that she would hold it against you.

Sikhs are reactive while all the enemies of sikhs are proactive, thsi is the main reason we are losing in many angles, we have no unity, jathas , amritdharis and non amritdhairs dont get along, to many splinetrs to be strong - all the best from the Sikh Unit family -

  20. Some people on this forum need to talk about things that they actually have done rather then sitting on the sidelines making rules for others. Get out of the house and actually try sparring and then give others advice. It takes guts to get in the ring, and there are practical considerations you have to make. This Singh is actually trying to make his kirpan (and what it stands for) more effective by training. He would be in a better position to stand up for dharam than most people on this forum who just talk.

  24. Feel really sorry for you Baldeep. Sounds like your father needs to man-up and take hold of the situation. If we had our old culture intact these kind of things would never happen. This is the price we are paying for losing our values and adopting a gutter culture. Jonny 101 has hit the nail on the head with his post, especially the above bit. This is why Western feminism is evil and is no part of Sikhi. It destroys families and communities. Hope the appalling behaviour of your sister improves as she is clearly giving you a lot of stress. Rab Rakha.

  27. Since she does not respect you or fear you, the only ones that can make a difference is your parents. I feel for you. When one member of a family goes the wrong way it is best if all the family make a solid united front but it looks like your parents are not willing to firmly stand by you. So your situation seems hopeless. You not talking to your sister is also not doing any good for her because you are the only one who is making a stand and by not talking to you, you are leaving the way open for her to do anything she wants. In your situation I think you should use diplomacy. First get into talking terms with her, because only by talking to her you can influance her. Get your parents on your side and get into an understanding with them to put your sister on the right path. Try to join a sangat near you or go the Gurdwara twice a week, take you sister with you always and get her involved in seva. Talk with her on Gurmat related topics. Most importantly, do ardas to Guru Jee to put your sister(and your entire fmaily) on the Path of Gurmat. In the west where our girls are bombarded with western culture, materialism, feminism, it is very easy for them to go astray and turn into feminist she-mans who misuse and misunderstand the concept of equality in Sikhi. It is very important that from the start Girls(and boys) be indoctinated with Gurbani, Sikhi and have Gurmat Sanskaars.

  28. Its the inner voice that forces someone to follow rehat ,as outlined by sikh gurus specifically by our tenth guru...and tht inner voice comes as we read and understand gurbani regularly, our gurus teachings.. Once we start applying our gurus teachings in our life,,it will only purify our life and mind ..... I will suggest her to read and understand gurbani,,,and if she do that surely she will be having tht courage to face such problems... Rehat maryada is important and rehat maryada is not all about hairs,,its more than that ,,to purify yours thoughts, mind and life and not to do sinful acts... Having hairs only as rehat maryada and doing other sinful acts in life ,having all bad thoughts in mind is more sinful act than tht....

  29. No, the film makers deserve criticism. I don't think our own people are to blame for every incident of disrespect to the Sikh identity. That's certainly not the case here. All I'm saying is: 1. The less respect our own people have for it, the harder it is to fight disrespect from other quarters 2. Any disrespect towards turbanned Sikhs is bad and should not be tolerated. But it's much worse when it comes from our own, and to be honest, I think the discrimination that comes from our own is much more harmful to our community than the discrimination that comes from outsiders. 3. While we continue to fight prejudice and hatred coming from others, let's also address the ignorance coming from our own

  36. I think Sikhs need to use some sort of chalaaki this time, or lets say, siyaanap. I think Bhai Gurdas Jee says Gursikh should be "andro siyaana baahro bhola", meaning clever within and sidha-sadha on the outside. But this chalaaki or siyaanap should also be without any intention to harm anyone, more like intended to safeguard oneself through smartness. Lets presume Modi comes to power and is the next PM. Among the first things he is going to do to make minorities feel comfortable is to appease them whatever way he can. He knows he can't do a good job at appeasing Muslims as they hate him already, so guess who is he going to try next? Yes, Sikhs! And how is he going to do that? He will (hopefully) make serious and genuine attempts to punish the perpetrators of the 1984 carnage. I say Sikh leadership should take every possible step to manipulate this. We should make sure those guys are punished severely. Now hang on, I am NOT saying to support BJP as they are the illegitimate cousins of the RSS, our "evergreen foes". They are the same people who will not think twice before propagating the "Sikh are Hindus" or "Sikhs are an offshoot/branch of Hinduism" poster. We're all well aware of that and are not gonna neglect it or step down from opposing that notion. All I am saying is we need to exert maximum pressure on them when they go after the Congress politicians who killed Sikhs in 1984, because guess what, they ARE going to do that anyways! So lets make sure they DO put the noose on those culprits. As far as other issues are concerned, we do NOT need to stand by them, but in terms of Sikh issues, we need to make sure the final outcome in in favor of the Panth. Just my thoughts. What do you think? I am thinking too much into it so please point out wherever I am wrong.

  40. Balee ji became amritdhari and was renamed Janak singh. He would do his seva diligently and recite gurbani and do simran. Unlike others, he didn't talk needlessly about gurmat, electing to keep in guruji's bhaana instead. One day he overheard Baba Jawala singh say "one's mind can't be controlled or stabilized without focusing on the guru". (Meaning one should focus on their guru when meditating). From that day on, Janak singh started focusing on Baba Jawala singh as his gurdev. Once as he was doing this, he fell to the ground, and Baba Jawala singh came running out of his kutya and brought Janak Singh back to consciousness. As he brought him to consciousness he said "don't ever, for any reason, focus on my body". Janak singh replied back humbly, "I overheard you discussing that one can't stabilize their mind unless they take their guru's body/form into their concentration, and that is why I started doing this". At that point, Baba jawala singh harkowahal gathered all the other sevaks and singhs together and gave the following updesh: "by focusing on dhyan, and going down that route alone, one will not achieve moksh (Salvation). There are 4 types that you will get to though. They are 1)salok muktee: the form (vyagtheegat) you focus on, you can get to their realm. Ie. Shivji-shivlok, brahmaji-brahmlok 2)smeep muktee: that form that you focus on, you can get close to it, but never fully become part of it 3)saroop muktee: you will become like the form that you worship, but you won't be the form. By following these routes you are not at a stable state (atal avastha), because a time will come that no form of maya whether it be asthool (tangible, body, gun) or sooksham (astral, spiritual) will remain. All will devour. That is why Guru Gobind Singh ji's singh doesn't want any of these muktee's. These muktee's will not allow one to dissolve into akal purakh. The following question was then asked: How does one get to that point where we become one with god? Baba jawala singh ji answered: Hey pyaray gurmukho, the shabad, which is the emanation and form of guruji's heart, that shabad is brahm. Get absorbed in that shabad and you will find that you no longer exist and that is the way that you will get muktee. Guruji has used the following lines in gurbani to explain this…… 1)sabad gur peera, gaher gambeera, bin shabadai jag baugaanang. 2)Satgur bachan, bachan hai satgur paadhur mukat janavago 3)Etc etc (more bani was said to reinforce the point) It is for this reason that gurmat is focusing on god through shabad ( gurmat hai shabad brahm dee upaashna) because shabad has 3 forms according to wise mahapurakhs: 1)asthool: when your eyes gaze on a granth and you read those letters out loud 2)misrat: when one's birti (focus/attention) becomes attuned to the shabad, the shabad is both suksham and asthool because the mind is made of the (tatta da sato ansh)….the sat (virtue/true/purest) form of the qualities. 3)Sukham= sookham (astral/spiritual) When the shabad abhyaas (meditation on the shabad) surpasses the consciousness(surat) of the mind, and gets absorbed in the paar baani (the celestial emanations of the primal sound)..(this is also called, naabhi di baani (sounds of the naval chakra). That baani has the ability to take the jeev's surti (the consciousness of the being) to the pinnacle point of brahm (the point from which creation was started). For this reason, you should all focus on the shabad.

  41. Baba Deep Singh's life story would make one absolutely fantastic movie; not that I'm suggesting such a thing is made. But the rich narrative of their life and their achievements would be wonderfully soul-stirring. I mean, they took Amrit from Dasme Paatshah themselves when in the service of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and they were called "Deepa" by Guru Ji as a child: Imagine being called by your pet-name in such an affectionate way by Dasme Paatshah!!! :wow: Then as a last hurrah in old age when they were creating saroops of Gurbani, they came out of "retirement" and picked up the sword to destroy the enemy, rallied Singhs together, and gave their shaheedi for Sikhi. The drawing of the line in the sand when Baba Ji made an ultimatum to the gathered Singhs would be one heck of a dramatic and heroic moment. You simply can't make up anything like that.

  43. It was during 2002-2003 when Akali leader Parkash Singh Badal and SGPC patriarch Gurcharan Singh Tohra parted ways. Paramjit Singh Sarna, then a Tohra acolyte, ensured that Delhi Sikhs came out of the shadow of Punjab politics. Tohra found an able ally in Sarna to take on the powerful Badal and successfully oust his group during the July 2002 Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) elections. Sarna become president and Badal, then out of power in Punjab, patched up with Tohra in May 2003. While Tohra merged his party (Sarb Hind Shiromani Akali Dal) with Badal’s SAD, Sarna chose to break away. In a calculated move, he decided to challenge the combined might of Badal and Tohra when the 2003 elections for the one-year term of DSGMC President were held. Sarna’s candidate, Prahlad Singh Chandhok, won. Then on, there was no looking back for Sarna, who calls himself as the leader of urban Sikhs. Today, at the office of the DSGMC at Rakab Ganj Sahib, hangs a portrait of Tohra. Alongside is the portrait of Master Tara Singh, inarguably the tallest post-Independence Sikh leader, indicating that Sarna acknowledges the two leaders as his mentors. Sarna, accompanied by his brother Harvinder Singh, did the unprecedented when in 2005 he made arrangements to send a gold ‘palki” in a procession to Nankana Sahib in Pakistan. By this time, the Sarnas, whose parents had migrated to Delhi from Rawalpindi, had become close to the then Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who helped them in their endeavour. Today, elections to the DSGMC are polarised on the Punjab versus Delhi lines. The Punjab CM and his son Sukhbir Badal are camping in Delhi. Sarna’s reputation of a tough opponent has brought several Punjab leaders here. Sarna, a businessman residing in Punjabi Bagh, says: “With me are the blessings of the Guru and my work to protect Sikhism. The Badals have ruined it all. Look at Punjab, 95 per cent of Sikh youths there do not support a turban. It is the RSS agenda that Badal has implemented in Punjab”. Pointing out that thousands of Punjab police personnel, officers and sarpanches were camping in Delhi, Sarna asked: “Why does Badal not improve the functioning of SGPC-run colleges and schools? We are doing much better than the SGPC”. For the SAD, a victory in the gurdwara poll could help the party bargain with its alliance partner (BJP) for moe seats in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections. In its formative years, the DSGMC had Jathedar Santokh Singh as its leader. He was shot dead in the early 80s. After his killing, no elections were held for more than 15 years during which the Congress lost its Sikh support base because of Operation Bluestar and the 1984 riots. With the Madan Lal Khurana-led BJP coming to power in Delhi, the DSGMC elections were held in 1995, which the Badal-led Akalis swept, ousting Congress loyalists from the committee.

  46. SINGH SAHIB JATHEDAR BHAI RAM SINGH JI, is the true JATHEDAR of DAMDAMI TAKSAL. SINGH SAHIB is the nephew of SANT KARTAR SINGH JI KHALSA. SINGH SAHIB JATHEDAR BHAI RAM SINGH JI became SHUDH AKHAND PATHI when he was 11 years old, and he started doing GURBANI KATHA when he was just 14 years old. HE has been a true sevadar of DAMDAMI TAKSAL and KHALSA PANTH as well. History is very unforgiving, and it always repeats itself. Just as SANT KARTAR SINGH JI KHALSA left BHINDER KALAN for MEHTA CHOWK, SINGH SAHIB has also left MEHTA CHOWK for SANGRAI instead of inviting confrontation with his own brethren. That's not all, even though SANT GURBACHAN SINGH JI had announced his decision to appoint SANT KARTAR SINGH JI KHALSA, still SANT GURBACHAN SINGH JI'S family supported GIANI MOHAN SINGH JI. In a similar fashion, SANT JARNAIL SINGH JI'S family (eg. the mole called JASBIR (SARKARI) SINGH RODE) are openly opposing SINGH SAHIB BHAI RAM SINGH JI. Please take few minutes to read the following article. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2004/20041228/punjab1.htm Dhumma’s nomination causes split in Damdami Taksal Varinder Walia Tribune News Service Chowk Mehta (Amritsar), December 27 The 300-year-old Sikh seminary — Damdami Taksal — witnessed a split once again following the nomination of Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma (36), a US citizen, as the successor of Baba Thakur Singh, six days before Baba Thakur Singh’s antim ardas. Baba Dhumma had settled in the USA in early nineties when militancy in Punjab was at its peak. Baba Ram Singh, a former priest of Golden Temple, however, claimed that he was the “real Jathedar”, as Baba Thakur Singh himself had given him “Dastar” (turban) and nominated him as the 15th Jathedar of the Taksal on June 17 last year in the USA. Baba Ram Singh and family members of Sant Kartar Singh Bhinderanwale (predecessor of Sant Jarnail Bhinderanwale), including Bhai Manjit Singh and Bhai Tarlochan Singh, president All-India Sikh Students Federation, openly supported Baba Ram Singh. They said a parallel antim ardas would be held at Gurshabad Parkash Gurdwara, at Sangrai village, Batala, instead of Chowk Mehta, as they don’t want any confrontation. The gurdwara would be the parallel headquarters of the breakaway group of the Taksal. The ideological difference between both would be that the breakaway group believed that Sant Bhinderanwale had died in Operation Bluestar, as stated by Akal Takht and the SGPC, while the Taksal (Chowk Mehta) would continue to keep the myth of Baba Thakur Singh that Sant Bhinderanwale was still alive for some more time. The split in Damdami Taksal has come after 35 years. Earlier, after the death of Sant Gurbachan Singh, his successor Sant Kartar Singh had shifted from the actual headquarters — Bhindera to Chowk Mehta in 1969. Though Sant Mohan Singh was given “Dastar” by the family of Sant Gurbachan Singh, the Chowk Mehta became the mainstream Taksal. Baba Ram Singh and his supporters claim that Gurdwara Gurshabad would become “real headquarters” of Damdami Taksal as in the past. He showed pictures of Baba Thakur Singh presenting “Dastar” and his signed statement. The eyewitness to this ceremony when “Dastar” was presented to Baba Ram Singh in the USA, including Baba Dharm Singh, Bhai Mukhtiyar Singh and Raagi Sarwan Singh (all from USA) who had specially flown here, said that Baba Thakur Singh had never backed out from his decision. They alleged that certain Taksal leaders, having vested interests, had held Baba Thakur Singh in “captivity” and spread a rumour that he (Bhai Ram Singh) was never nominated as his successor . The decision to nominate Baba Harnam Singh as successor of Baba Thakur Singh, even before the antim ardas has raised many eyebrows. Sources pointed out that this step had to be taken in the wake of moves of certain lobbies. Baba Ram Singh and his supporters alleged that the “back door” nomination of Baba Harnam Singh had created suspicion in the minds of Sikh Sangat, as no Sikh institution was taken into confidence. Today, “Dastar” was given to Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma by the “five beloved ones” including Bhai Jaswant Singh, Bhai Mal Singh — both priests of Golden Temple, Bhai Mohkam Singh, Bhai Gurdip Singh and Bhai Gurjit Singh Jagadhri. Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode, a former Jathedar of Akal Takht was also present on the occasion.

  49. I do not find anything wrong with a woman bleaching her hair. Why is almost everyone in here so militant and hardcore. If a woman wants to bleach, or wax her body hair, its her perogative. Who are we to judge? If a woman uncomfortable with facial hair, she should have the right to do what it takes to feel comfortable. I don't like the way the kuttard (hardcore) sikhs say something and expect every other sikh to follow it like its the law of the land. If you don't want to do something, than don't, but tell others what to do. Are you going to tell your wife that she can't bleach her hair? Also, everytime I come to this forum, all I read are male points of view. Where are the female points of view? Sukh
