  7. you dont need an indian passport for an oci. one of ur parents must be of indian decent- u just have to prove this with i.e. ther current or old indian passport. which they must have surrendered- you will also need their surrender letter. If they have been using their indian passport whilst having a british passport, they will be fined before the oci goes thru. but thats only if mr taklu raam at high commission clicks on. the high commission is just as messed up as the country. good luck getting thru on the phone. n if u finally do get thru, good luck understanding ther Hinglish

  10. Good Topic !! I think the key here is that we should bear and accept equally whatever the ONE Almighty gives us. This could be BOTH Dukh and Sukh. Yes we do celebrate and enjoy the sukh. We don't REACT to it equally as Dukh, because with dukh we may still have to accept or we get forced to accept, but we don't enkoy this giving to us. To ACCEPT both EQUALLY means to ''REACT" equally when there is a Birth or Death, Win or lose, Loss or gain..etc... What should his equal reaction be ??? Well, it shouldn't be mourning and sadness on loss and ecstatic bhangra on joy !! :excited: It should be a very NEUTRAL acceptance, where one does NOT go to one extreme or the other. It is ALL his sweet will or meetha banah. When you get a brand new Corvette, then your reaction should be the same as when you crash it and lose it! You should accept it (the receiving and losing) as BOTH his sweet doing of divine will. Do we do this ??? I'm as guilty as anyone out there for failing to do this. But I do believe that when a Sikh has submitted themselves to guru ji, then they should submit ALL the doings to the doer. Be they SUKH or DUKH. However, I do try very hard to stay neutral and NOT get overjoyed with any occurences of joy, sukh and celebration. How does this behavior affect me ?? OK, I've been living this way for quite some time now and the best impact is that I hardly ever feel distressed, upset or down. However, it does make me seem to others that I am ''care-free' and something may be mentally wrong with me. They think that because i'm behaving TOO NORMAL in abnormal circumstances, that something is seriously wrong with me. In fact, my wife and family were getting convinced that I was suffering from some mental disorder like ADD !!! The truth of the matter is, that I am probably in much more control of my mind and emotions. Because this is what it is about- having control over these emotions, and NOT letting these emotions take over your mind. I'm sure Guruji, sitting on the hot plate had many emotions, but none of them got the better of him. Yes- it can make your life a little hard in the real world, but you actually feel that you have more control over your mind, body and soul. I think that this attitude can make you a more calmer person who doesn't have a short fuse or temper. I hardly ever get upset by someone else actions any more, and I don't get too excited either !!

  11. vaheguroojikakhalsavaheguroojikifateh jeeo A thought that I've had at the back of my mind for a while now... are there no contemporary paintings of well known sikh figures from the past? The issue of portraits of Guru Sahib is a different one, but I find it hard to believe that no one, for example the Mughals, would not make any paintings of their most wanted enemies such as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, Baba Deep Singh Ji, or of the executions that they carried out, e.g. Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Ji or Bhai Taru Singh Ji. Does anyone know what the deal with this is? I am also curious that none of our historians made any paintings themselves, would Sikhs not have made paintings of great gurmukhs such as Bhai Gurdas? I can only imagine on this point that perhaps Sikhs were very firm on not making any depictions of people. What are the earliest depictions of Sikhs that we have?

U know when a person suffers from mental disability those people consume those medicine which is made out of drugs...when u drink syrup u r actually consuming alcohol.... Christain took white, hindu red, muslin green. Sikh royal blue n saffron....but source is same...... U r hindu n u eat green vegetables which is the color of Muslim.... Muslim eat bakra which has red color of blood in it..... Christian are white luving people but they actually wear all the colors especially black...... N sikh mere veere check the color of rumale....pink,yellow.mention,blue. ....My Guru Granth Sahib g wear every color......
    1 point
  25. I know there are maryadas that suggest not to wear certain colours because of their significance. We should appreciate like Gurpreet ji says- and I can understand how a blind person would long to differentiate between red and green..etc. If you start to totally reject a colour and refuse to wear it or even keep any item with that colour, then isn't that a little ritualistic ? I don't think that God made any colours for us to not associate with or to avoid. He gave us the colours of the rainbow and the eyes to see them with. For those of you that know some Physics, you will know that pure white light refracts through a prism to give all the different colours of the rainbow., and vica versa where the colours can converge to come out like a white light as well !! For those of you that meditate and do deep simran, you will agree that this ''Deep White Light' is the Divne colour of the lord. It is the light or jyot that you want to get nearer to in order to submerge in. To me it makes perfect sense that ALL the colours merge into and come from the Divine Light or jyot of Guruji.

  26. I think the ''KEY'' here to the sesame seed reference I gave above is Bhai Gurdas Ji's Vaaran 17 pauri Khaytai Andari Janmi Kai Sabh Doon Ouchaa Hoi Vikhaalay. Sesame plant growing in the field seems to be taller than all. Bootu Vadaa Kari Dhailadaa Hoi Chuhachuhaa Aapu Samaalay. On growing further it spreads all around verdantly and sustains itself. Khayti Saphal Hoi Laavanee Chhoutani Tilu Booaarh Niraalay. On getting ripe when reaping begins, the seedless sesame plants are distinctly left out. Nihaphal Saaray Khayt Vichi Jiu Saravaarh Kamaad Vichaalay. They are sonsidered useless as the thick growth of elephant grass is known worthless in the fields of sugarcane. Saadhasangati Gur Sabadu Souni Kapat Sanayhu Karani Baytaalay. Even listening to the word of the Guru in the holy congregation those who do not keep any discipline, move around like ghosts. Nihaphal Janamu Akaaradaa Halati Palati Hovani Muh Kaalay. 27. That's a very good start panthicunity ji. I would just like to add further, as I think that this very 1st part is much deeper than the translations Guru Nanak ji and Guru Angad ji both start with the sloks and then gives us continuation with the 1st pauri. Ive gone a little further into 1st pauri with some comments. chhutay til boo-aarh ji-o sunjay andar khayt. shall be left abandoned in the field, like the scattered sesame. I think that ''til' is a sesame seed plant (not the actual seed)- Now this plant has the unique purpose of only producing the sesame seed, such that it is in fact a sesame seed plant.......The pods that contain theses seeds are picked and the pods that contain bad seeds are abandoned and left there. Thus, we are like the pods themselves, where some can have some good worthy seeds inside and others just have ash khaytai andar chhuti-aa kaho naanak sa-o naah. They are abandoned in the field, says Nanak, and they have a hundred masters to please. The abandoned pods are the ones that were no use to the farmer or God Almighty. However, these pods have other masters or so called gurus to choose from. So those people that don't get the grace of One Almighty or God realization, can LOOK to other masters that may appear to grace them. falee-ah fulee-ah bapurhay bhee tan vich su-aah. ||3|| The wretches bear fruit and flower, but within their bodies, they are filled with ashes. ||3|| These wretches and no good pods may persuade other masters to take them but they are of NO VALUE to farmer God Almighty. These 2 sloks, one by Guru Nanak ji and the other by Guru Angad ji, lead up to the 1st pauri, below- ਪਉੜੀ Pa▫oṛī. Āpīnĥai āp sāji▫o āpīnĥai racẖi▫o nā▫o. He Himself created Himself; He Himself assumed His Name. Ḏuyī kuḏraṯ sājī▫ai kar āsaṇ diṯẖo cẖā▫o. Secondly, He fashioned the creation; seated within the creation, He beholds it with delight. He created the creation and created the duality that exists, which makes it appear he created himself. Ḏāṯā karṯā āp ṯūʼn ṯus ḏevėh karahi pasā▫o. You Yourself are the Giver and the Creator; by Your Pleasure, You bestow Your Mercy. Ŧūʼn jāṇo▫ī sabẖsai ḏe laisahi jinḏ kavā▫o. You are the Knower of all; You give life, and take it away again with a word. He knows of all the creatures in this existence and provides and sustains their survival. Under his own command they can all cease to exist or survive. He is the inner knower or antarjami that sits and oversees all the needs. Kar āsaṇ diṯẖo cẖā▫o. ||1|| Seated within the creation, You behold it with delight. ||1|| This pauri points to the important fact that we may see this world as an illusion and therefore some people will decide to separate themselves and renounce the world to go live in caves and mountains as siddhs and yogis. But Guruji is saying that it is ALL very real and created by him, which makes it seem separate (due to duality). But he oversees and sustains it all including himself and the whole creation. Therefore the whole illusion is in effect real since it is ALL under his command which itself is very REAL I think that in this last tuk, - seated ''WITHIN'' is important because it emphasizes that he is within and not separate form the creation. Thus the illusion is very real and duality is only there because of the formless and form (nirgun and sargun) of creator and creationn. Because if there were pure duality, then he would not be sat within, but would rather be in his own boundaries! All the above is my interpretation and assumptions, -bhul chuk marf, and All errors are completely mine and I stand corrected.

With so many professors and academics to be found in the ranks of the SGPC and other places, you'd think they'd get one of them to at least proof-read the text before sending it off to be made into a sign.

  34. Never listen to those who says you cannot get a job while you are in your roop. Believe me, you are more likely to get a job because many employers see you as somebody who is committed person( when you are in your Sikh Saroop) and not somebody who will change very easily. But you should look confident & happy with who you are. I am in US and a physician. After finishing my residency, I was a bit skeptical about getting a job because of my Sikhi Saroop. Thats why I applied for more places. I went to approx 6 interviews, all of them wanted to hire me, with 5 of them really keen on it. So I feel if you are good, no matter what, your faith would never come in the way of your job, rather it will only help as employers like people who are strong and stand by a certain values. Having said that, many of our apne who cannot a job, straightaway blame it on our appearance. It always takes time and you anyways do not want to work with an employer who is racist. He/she will discriminate against you no matter what, so better stay away from them. Your Sikhi Saroop will repel them like a mosquito repellent cream.

  40. OPEN LETTER FROM THE FEDERATION OF SIKH ORGANISATIONS (UK) TO THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT REGARDING PROFESSOR BHULLAR Published: April 16, 2013 OPEN LETTER FROM THE FEDERATION OF SIKH ORGANISATIONS TO THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT 15 April 2013 HANGING PROFESSOR DAVINDERPAL SINGH BHULLAR WILL BE THE FINAL STEP IN A MASSIVE MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE AND ANOTHER INDICATION SIKHS CAN NEVER GET JUSTICE IN INDIA As of today, 140 or more than two-thirds of countries in the world have abolished the death penalty in law or practice. However, India, the world’s so-called largest democracy, is defying world opinion and preparing to hang an innocent man. Sikhs across the globe in their millions are dismayed at the action of the Indian state. Several thousand Sikhs have today laid siege to the High Commission of India in London to demand India immediately remove the Professor from death row. The Professor should be released without delay given his deteriorating health, following 18 years in prison with the last 11 on death row, and the last two-and-a-half years suffering from serious mental illness. Similar protests are taking place across Europe, Canada, USA, Australia and New Zealand. In December 1994 Professor Bhullar fled to Germany following the killing of his father and uncle by Sumedh Saini, the current Director General of Punjab Police. He was deported from Germany in January 1995 following assurances by the Indian authorities to the German Government he had nothing to fear if he returned to India. Subsequently, the courts in Germany declared his deportation was illegal and in violation of the European Convention on Human Rights. Germany remains morally obliged to do all it can to make sure the Professor is not hanged and seek his immediate release. Upon his arrival in Delhi the Professor was immediately arrested and a confessional statement obtained through torture that he later retracted as it was made under police pressure. The Professor had no access to a lawyer during his initial detention and trial. He was convicted on the basis of an unsubstantiated “confession” that he made to the police with 133 witnesses failing to identify him and sentenced to death notwithstanding the leading judge in the Supreme Court concluding he should be released due to lack of evidence. He said the Professor could not be found guilty of conspiracy as this would require by definition that he conspired with another and as others named in the confession statement are acquitted, it is impossible for him to conspire with himself. A split judgement in the Supreme Court has never in Indian history resulted in the imposition of the death penalty. Even the two judges in favour of the death sentence observed that the split judgement could be a factor considered in the mercy petition process – the final opportunity for individuals to have their death sentences commuted. For the last 11 years the Professor has been on death row in Tihar Central Prison, Delhi and held in solitary confinement spending 22 hours in a 9×7 cell. This has been a torture worse than death. It is no surprise that his mental state has been very poor for the last two-and-a-half years and he has been hospitalised. In resolution 2005/59, the UN Commission on Human Rights called upon all states that retain the death penalty “Not to impose the death penalty on a person suffering from any mental or intellectual disabilities or to execute any such person”. Amnesty International launched its third Urgent Action appeal for Professor Bhullar on Friday 12 April 2013 calling upon the Indian government not to execute the Professor, to remove him from death row immediately, and retry his case in proceedings that comply with international fair trial standards. If India executes Professor Bhullar it will signal to the world that India is backward and prepared to go to extreme lengths to eliminate all Sikh political prisoners. India will also be testing the resolve of countries in the civilised world who will realise India has no respect for human rights, is barbaric and has no compassion and is using trade as blackmail. http://www.sikhsiyasat.net/2013/04/16/open-letter-from-the-federation-of-sikh-organizations-uk-to-the-indian-government-regarding-prof-bhullar/
