  1. Waheguruji Ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh Veerji, From the little which i re-call, there are two Shabad Hazaarey, one were letters written by Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj to his father, Guru Ram Das Ji.. And then there are Shabad Hazaare written by Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. The saakhi of Guru Arjan Devji Maharaj's Shabad Hazaare - Guru Ram Das Ji wanted his sons, Baba Prithi Chand to attend a wedding where he was invited. But Prithi Chand refused to mano Hukam of Guru Sahibj. Then Guru Sahib asked Baba Mahadev ji to attend the wedding, but he too refused. then Guru Sahib asked Guru Arjan Dev Ji to go to the wedding. Since Guru Arjan Dev ji had a lot of chaao and prem for his father, he obeyed his Hukam and went for the wedding. Guru Ram Das Ji also told Guru Arjan Dev ji to stay at the wedding until he asked him to return.. It has been many months and still there was no call from Guru Ram Das ji to return home.. Guru Arjan Dev ji was filled with vairaag & so he wrote a letter (shabad) to his father.. The first letter is a stanza or the first part of this shabad : maajh mehalaa 5 choupadhae ghar 1 || Maajh, Fifth Mehla, Chau-Paday, First House: maeraa man lochai gur dharasan thaaee || My mind longs for the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan. bilap karae chaathrik kee niaaee || It cries out like the thirsty song-bird. thrikhaa n outharai saa(n)th n aavai bin dharasan sa(n)th piaarae jeeo ||1|| My thirst is not quenched, and I can find no peace, without the Blessed Vision of the Beloved Saint. ||1|| ho gholee jeeo ghol ghumaaee gur dharasan sa(n)th piaarae jeeo ||1|| rehaao || I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to the Blessed Vision of the Beloved Saint Guru. ||1||Pause|| This letter, shabad never reached Guru Ram Das Ji, as his son, Prithi Chand had hidden it. Then Guru Arjan dev ji wrote another letter, which is a continuation of the above - thaeraa mukh suhaavaa jeeo sehaj dhhun baanee || Your Face is so Beautiful, and the Sound of Your Words imparts intuitive wisdom. chir hoaa dhaekhae saari(n)gapaanee || It is so long since this rainbird has had even a glimpse of water. dhha(n)n s dhaes jehaa thoo vasiaa maerae sajan meeth muraarae jeeo ||2|| Blessed is that land where You dwell, O my Friend and Intimate Divine Guru. ||2|| ho gholee ho ghol ghumaaee gur sajan meeth muraarae jeeo ||1|| rehaao || I am a sacrifice, I am forever a sacrifice, to my Friend and Intimate Divine Guru. ||1||Pause|| This letter was also hidden from Guru Sahib. And Guru Arjan Dev ji wrote another : eik gharree n milathae thaa kalijug hothaa || When I could not be with You for just one moment, the Dark Age of Kali Yuga dawned for me. hun kadh mileeai pria thudhh bhagava(n)thaa || When will I meet You, O my Beloved Lord? mohi rain n vihaavai needh n aavai bin dhaekhae gur dharabaarae jeeo ||3|| I cannot endure the night, and sleep does not come, without the Sight of the Beloved Guru's Court. ||3|| ho gholee jeeo ghol ghumaaee this sachae gur dharabaarae jeeo ||1|| rehaao || I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to that True Court of the Beloved Guru. ||1||Pause|| This letter also never reached Guru Ram Das ji. And Guru Arjan Dev ji wrote a fourth letter, which is - bhaag hoaa gur sa(n)th milaaeiaa || By good fortune, I have met the Saint Guru. prabh abinaasee ghar mehi paaeiaa || I have found the Immortal Lord within the home of my own self. saev karee pal chasaa n vishhurraa jan naanak dhaas thumaarae jeeo ||4|| I will now serve You forever, and I shall never be separated from You, even for an instant. Servant Nanak is Your slave, O Beloved Master. ||4|| ho gholee jeeo ghol ghumaaee jan naanak dhaas thumaarae jeeo || rehaao ||1||8|| I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice; servant Nanak is Your slave, Lord. ||Pause||1||8|| And this time, the letter reached Guru Ram Das ji, and he called Guru Arjav Dev ji back. The above are called Shabad Hazaare written by Guru Arjan Dev Ji, to his father, when he felt a lot of chaao and variraag for his father.. Then there are Shabad Hazaare written by Paatshaahi Dasvi, Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. I do not know the saakhi behind them. Someone from sangat would be able to share with us..Also i could have gone wrong somewhere above, so please correct me. Bhul chuk maaf karna ji.

  2. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee is not a worshiper of any Devi. One just needs to look at the example of Bhai Lehna Jee before He became a Sikh, He was a Devi worshiper. But when he first went to meet with Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee, He was astonished to see that the Devi He was worshiping all his life was sweeping the floor of the house of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee with a broom (ਝਾੜੂ). Siri Guru Jee has taught his Sikhs to not be a worshiper of any Shakti or any other Devi but only worship the one and only Akal Purkh through his divine Naam. Vaheguru Jee does not have nor does He require any partners that we should also worship.

  3. As per my understanding when Sri Akal Purekh was obsorbed in himself and self contemplation and there was nothing else he had the itcha (wish) to become many from 'one' (iq). It was this itcha that gave birth to adh-shakti (primal energy). It was his adh-shakti that would bring forth his many sargun forms out of his nirgun constant state. Sri adh-shakti then gave birth or took on three forms (which ever way you want to look at it) to tre-gun (three attributes) of maya (form of Sri-Adh Shakti). These tre-gun represent themselves and exist in sargun saroop as the 'tin chela', brahma (creative - rajo gun), Visnu (preserver - sato gun) and shiva (destroyer - tamo gun). Even these tin chela are powerless and useless without adh-shakti, the primal energy of adh Purekh nirankar Sri Waheguru. The khanda, Chandi, baguati are given upmost respect by mahraj because they are physical (sargun) embodiment of Sri Adh-Shakti. The universe has a beautiful natural but deliberate balance too it, male-female, dark-light, etc so as he is described as the ultimate male energy we as the creation out of adh shakti and the rest of maya are his female counter balance. Yes adh shakti is divine female energy and should be worshipped respected to the highest level but to say mahraj was solely a worshiper of adh shakti is narrow minded and incomplete. Also the right wing and left wing uneducated average joey from the pind mentality who reject this reality about importance of adh shakti because their brain can only cope with imaging a man with a white beard as being god are equally if not more foolish.

  6. Theres alot of discussion on sikhs marrying hindus and muslims. But what about the growing and worrying trend of sikhs marrying white. I recently knew of a sikh woman who is married to a white man through my work place. I was stunned to when she introduced a bald white guy as her husband. I think we are in a crisis. Will there be any sikhs left to marry with all the sikhs marrying out of religion/race ect. We can only try and live as good Sikhs ourselves. How can can we try and be sikhs when so many leave our religion amd set bad ecamples for future sikhs.

  7. Muslims are taking over Canada just like they have in the UK , I am no racist but you should come to the UK every whim of the Muslim community is fevoured over by the nanny goverment. The Sikhs in Canada may think they have a special releationship with the goverment etc , but unless the Sikh community in Canada is poltically strong then this special releationship equates to ZERO. This special releationship is gonna go through the window anyway ! As soon there will be more Muslims to ponder to for their votes just like in the UK, did you know there are already more Hindus and Muslims in Canada then Sikhs ! , Did you know that the Muslims population growth through birth rates and immigration in Canada is going to increase to a massive rate . My question to the Sikhs in Canada is , what are you going to do about this ! You should lobby your goverment to stop Muslim immigration. They are our enemy , they have been in the past , are at present and will be in future. What do you want the ratio of Sikhs to Muslims to be 1 to 5 like there are in the UK! Muslims cause enourmous problems in the UK with all communites including Sikhs , and the goverment does not know what to do with them , is this what you want in Canada. You canadian Sikhs need to wakeup now before its too !

  8. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Guru Roop Sangat Jeo, A few singhs have asked me to explain the method I use to scan Gurbani books. It is a fairly straightforward process; all you need is a digital camera with 5 megapixels or above resolution and a combination of freely available software. I do not use flatbed scanners to import pictures; somehow I do not find appropriate to turn Gurbani books upside down and then press them from top as one would normally do when scanning generic books. Digital camera, on the other hand, prevents this beadbi. It is just my opinion of course; the main thing is to give respect to Gurbani as much as we can. Ok, so the first part is to take pictures of the book you want to digitise. There is nothing technical about the simple process I follow but, following steps can be helpful in taking good, crisp pictures: First of all, make sure you have a nice Rumaalla or clean white cloth spread on the table/surface where the book is going to be when you take pictures. Your digital camera should be able to take pictures of about 3072 x 1728 resolution. I find this resolution quite appropriate for my work. Set your camera to Macro Mode; just look for an icon similar to this on your camera. This setting is important as it will help us to take crisp, sharp pictures of the text which otherwise will not be possible. If your camera has a 'grid' option on the LCD screen, turn that on. The idea is to focus center of the page right in the middle of the reference grid. It is always best to use natural lighting when taking pictures. But since that is not always possible, we can use a table lamp, but make sure that the light is not too powerful for the book and that it spreads out evenly on the whole page. I normally cover my table lamp with a thin piece of white paper to diffuse the light since the light is bit too bright otherwise. Avoid the use of camera flash. This is especially important for glossy, shiny pages as we are going to physically place the camera quite close to the page and it will end up flooding the center of the page with bright light which will ruin the output. Place the book on the table in a direction you are comfortable with, and make sure you do not change it whilst flipping the pages. I normally use a ruler parallel to the book as a reference point so that the book can be place back to its original position in case it has to be moved for some reason. We have to make sure our hands are steady when we click pictures otherwise output text will be blurry and difficult to read. So, hold the camera firmly with both hands and take your time to compose the shot. Also, do not forget to use the reference grid. These are simple things but sometimes hard to follow as patience starts running thin when digitising huge volumes of text! Do a quick review after clicking a picture. If the text is blurry, underexposed, or the orientation is not right, then delete and retake the picture straightway. It will be very painful to redo the images after having transferred them onto the computer. Most of the above tips are fairly simple but it is still good to keep them in mind when taking pictures! Software: I use Scan Tailor for post processing. It is a great little piece of software that helps to fix orientation, deskewing, trimming contents, etc. in batch mode and is farily easy to use as well. Still, follow the walkthrough below if you have any difficulties. 1. Click New project.. 2. Import the images.. 3. Set DPI to 300x300 4. Fix the orientation.. 5. If you capture two pages in one image, use the split pages option although I find capturing one page at a time more accurate. 6. Keep following the other options, till you reach the Output option. Use 400x400 DPI for output resolution, colour for the cover page, black and white for the rest: That's it really. Once you are satisfied with the output, use Primo PDF to join all the TIFF images into one PDF! Sorry if this post hasn't been of any help but whatever method you use please take some time out to digitise Gurbani books so that whole panth can benefit! Bhull Chukk Di Maafi Jeo

  9. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Gurbani is Atal, but then you can choose to ignore it because you have moved on from the more "basic" Gurbani to more "advanced" Gurbani...I don't suscribe to that interpretation. Sorry, with savinderpalsingh, bachan of Punj Pyare are also Atal and Gurbani is Atal - a Sikh does not choose to ignore. If Gurbani is Agaadh Bodh, then it cannot be outdated and ignored because you have somehow become too advanced in spirituality. While I understand that there are different stages of spirituality, it does not mean that basics (i.e. Rehat given by the Punj Pyare, Gurbani for "beginners") are abandoned. Sorry, if Guru Gobind Singh Ji can get tankah from the Punj Pyare for bowing his teer to a samadh, I ain't risking it. Guru Sahib did not utter that the Rehat was dear to him, not the Sikh without reason. Sikhi being sharper than a sword's edge and thinner than a hair implies that there is a very straight and narrow path to follow.

  12. Adi shakti is one aspect of gurmat just like bhagti, shabad surat and gyan. Sri guru gobind singh maharaj- akaal purkh himself in sargun cannot be confined to adi shakti aspect only. This article is misleading, knee j erk reaction from a over zealous chela of adi shakti/maya shakti upasakh as author seem to confine or hang up on- adi shakti to only divine mother form whereas there are many glorious forms of shakti in gurmat-bhagavti shiv shakti, bhaugti- sri sahib, bhaugti- kundalini shakti inside, bhaugti- para bani shabad shakti form , bhaugti- self in form of atma-paratma-para shakti, our pure sargun form of shakti is - mata sahib devan ,sri sahib, ad shakti- khanda with kirpan. Along with shastar poja at hazoor sahib, great reverence is paid to mata sahib devan in hazoor sahib as divine mother which this nut bar forgets to mention. I don't understand how that can be ignored. Gurmat does not reject previous female/devi aspects of shakti/divine but in khalsa panth we don't totally confine ourselves to previous female/devi aspects of shakti as we have our sargun form of adi shakti is mata sahib devan/kaur- kirpan and khanda. i also understand frustration of author because mainstream neo tat khalsa/ singh sabha- missionaries teja singh mindset (he was guilty to remove bhaugti from ardas) always live in denial, hyper parnioa, have extreme allergy against gurbani/sri dasam granth which describes sargun maya qualities of akaal purkh in feminine light ...they live in denial because they themselves are influenced by pendu Patriarchy, macho tribal system. It takes one to have heart of sher to understand sri dasam granth sahib in its totality, gotta leave our hyper paranoia, pre-conceived notions behind to understand complexity of gurmat theological relationship with all its aspect . Gurmat reformed and gathered all 12 previous school of thoughts in indic traditions, gathers them together all in one platform- highway - high path of gurmukhs. ਬਾਰਹ ਪੰਥ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਡੀ ਰਾਹੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ। Baarah Pand Ikatr Kari Guramoukhi Gaadee Raahu Chalaaiaa. बारह पंथ इकत्र करि गुरमुखि गाडी राहु चलाइआ । Gathering the twelve sects together, he prepared a high path of gurmukhs.

  16. I had read figures of 75m Punjabi speakers in Pakistan and 25m in India a few years ago. Although there are efforts by the government to promote and preserve the language in Indian Punjab, there is a deliberate attempt to kill it in Pakistan. Apparently it is not even taught in schools and has no official status. Parents who speak between themselves in Punjabi will however speak with their children in Urdu. To create a national muslim Pakistani identity they have sacrificed Punjabi in favour of Urdu. Even in the Pakistan Punjab assembly, legislators are not allowed to speak in Punjabi. Read the comments on this blog. http://mastmalang.wordpress.com/2006/12/24/the-punjabi-language/

  17. I read this news to my aunty ji. It was so funny, her words about Dr Gurnam Singh and Sikh Channel were 'jhoothe kuthey kaminey' (mean lying dogs). Funny because Dr Gurnam Singh is like Davinder Singhs and Sikh channels kutha (dog), which means barks first and thinks later. She said ' ai chor hai' and will be stopping her £6 per month donation. Every society has its share of its unfortunate individuals who are sick, disabled, forlorn, suffering and deserted by mankind. There are old people and new born babies no one wants to look after. There are disabled who are not admitted into any of the hospitals and are left to die on the roadside. There are diseased persons no one wants to touch. They all are the burden of our society but who is to look after them ? Instead donate to Pingalwara were the money is spent properly instead of stupid television programmes that have no respect for Gurbani or Guru Granth Sahib.

  18. Sorry but you're totally WRONG on the Punjabi matter. Fact is if Sikhi WASN'T from Punjab, it would probably have been eaten alive by Muslims just like Buddhism has been in India (where Buddhism was born and at one point the official religion). Hindus only survived centuries of horror because of their massive population, which Sikhs have never had. So WHY were we able to survive and win out with such modest numbers? It's because Sikhs are Punjabi and inherited all of the ALREADY EXISTING strength Punjab had to offer. Guru Hargobind was trained in that Punjabi warrior culture and was a skilled martial artist (Shastarvidya) and hunter, and he mandated that Sikhs follow his example, arm themselves and always be prepared to fight. This in turn gave even more reasons to inspire warrior tribes like Jats, Rajputs and Shaivites to join Sikhi if they hadn't already. There is a REASON most Sikhs are Jat, and why they have always been the backbone of Sikh/Indian armies. Some people are inspired by spirituality, some people by the high moral code, some people by the arts (which Sikhi promotes more than any other faith), some people by independance (freedom from Islamic oppressors), and some people by the martial traditions. There is something for EVERYONE in Sikhi. Jats have never been very spiritual people (I mean look at us ) and never got on well with Brahmins, but they were incredibly impressed by martial traditions. For them Sikhi became too good a deal to pass up. You HAD to be a Sikh to be a well respected fighter, it was the COOL thing to do. Sikhs have forgotten how incredibly important the cool factor was for Sikhi to grow like it did. If you don't FORCE people to join you (like Islam), or lie to them (again, Islam), the only think left to convince them is by being something so cool they are inspired to be part of it. Sikhi absorbed and rebranded the existing warrior culture, learned the ancient techniques of Shastarvidya and combat strategy. Now in the modern day Sikhs are the ONLY ones carrying on that martial heritage of North India, it practically belongs to us. =================================================================================================== What you need to understand is... Sikhs by our VERY NATURE are quite hippy. Our values are as fair, liberal conservative and secular as they come (which we should be proud of). The fact that we have such high moral standards is NOT simply because morality and the importance of marriage (unlike in atheism) is encoded into Sikhi, it's ALSO because we come from a Patriarchal Punjabi culture that EXPECTS men to be men and women to be women. Remember that women in Punjab even now DO NOT drink, and would never be expected to. Punjab still has that incredibly macho and rural culture, and the women don't behave anything like supposedly 'liberated' women here do. Now am I saying Punjabi culture is perfect? Hell no, far from it. Punjab is plagued with problems, most of which have been forced on it. I'm saying there needs to be a balance. Sikhi WITHOUT Punjabi = Hippy. Punjabi WITHOUT Sikhi = Jock. Sikhi PLUS Punjabi = Khalsa. =================================================================================================== Punjabi culture has NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH MUSLIMS. It's been there since ancient times. Sikhs didn't suddenly pop up out of the ground, our ancestors were mostly Hindu and CHOSE to become Sikhs to free themselves from the corrupted mess that is Hinduism (corrupted due to the passing of time, repeated Muslim invasions and retarded Brahmin control and casteism), the idol worship of illogical Hindu Gods which obviously don't exist, and of course their Islamic oppressors at the time destroying their ancient culture. Sikhs even NOW visit Hindu Mandir's to preserve that part of their history, if only just for fun. Just because we left Hinduism behind doesn't mean it should be forgotten. Sikhs even NOW pay respect to village shrines called 'Juggah', which honour the ancestor who created the village. This is part of the Punjabi Folk Religion. This is stuff Sikhs do in Punjab as we speak, I know my family does. Personally I found it all INCREDIBLY confusing in my younger years going there on holiday since it was just NORMAL for them and nothing was ever explained. What else points to Punjabi culture having nothing to do with Muslims? Well. Punjabi is not an officially recognised language in Pakistan and they're trying to phase it out. Why? It's because they consider it to be the language of the Sikhs. They'd like to pretend they were never ruled by Sikhs, descended from kaffir's themselves, and that they're just like their Arab masters. They are attempting to destroy their history and adopt Urdu (their halfway point between Middle Eastern and Indian languages) and generic ISLAMIC CULTURE. Hell even Hindu's consider it to be the language of the Sikhs. That's why around the time of the Punjabi Suba, Punjabi Hindu's were goaded into supporting Hindu Nationalism and Hindi, a language they could barely speak. Punjab was then lazily divided and whole Punjabi speaking Hindu populations were totally cut off from their homeland. Punjabi music is almost ENTIRELY dominated by Sikhs. What would all the stupid 'Asian' radio stations play if not for us aside from Bollywood tunes? Bhangra is a double edged sword, on the one hand it is the MAIN preserver of Punjabi culture in the UK. On the other hand it also unfortunately imitates modern music and comes with its share of crappy party songs that celebrate crappy morals (not all, most Bhangra songs are all about pride). Are we stronger thanks to Bhangra? Definitely, it gives us a banner to unite under. What ELSE can we really say we've really allowed ourselves to excel at? Kabaddi? Sure we own that but that's not a bigtime sport yet. Sikhs would be doing a LOT better in others sports like boxing if we just supported all the RIDICULOUS amounts of talent our people have. We're so outnumbered, we've always punched above our weight, and yet we STILL can't be bothered to support each other. Pathetic. Think about this... The SECOND the Muslims have a single person to rally behind, they are instantly throwing money at them. The first British Asian Boxing Champion was Harry Dhami, and yet he doesn't even have a WIKIPEDIA PAGE. On the other hand everyone knows who Amir Khan is... Not to mention Muslims do this with EVERYTHING, they even have sites dedicated to listing crappy Halal shops. The only films in Punjabi that get any attention are those made by Sikhs, and the industry in Punjab is starting to explode now which is a great thing for us. We need to separate ourselves from Bollywood which has never represented us. The Bollywood 'love story' is a giant sack of crap. And of course Punjabi was the language of our Sikh Guru's, so for US it cannot be replaced. Fact of the matter is, Sikhs have had an overwhelmingly bigger impact on the Punjabi identity worldwide than Muslims, especially after partition. The difference in population between Indian Punjab and Pakistani Punjab is totally IRRELEVANT, eventually NOBODY in Pakistani Punjab will be left who can even speak Punjabi, only Urdu. Personally I think this is great. Sikhs didn't ASK to be the ones associated with Punjabi, but fate has ensured we are. Now we should be working hard to OWN Punjabi culture completely, that's thousands of years of history that belongs ONLY to us. =================================================================================================== What am I ultimately getting at here? Sikhs (being inherently liberal) have integrated FAR too well, we've become a bunch of coconuts and adopted the many weaknesses of the white people and this 'modern' culture. Western culture has now become SO overwhelmingly atheist (the church becoming less and less culturally relevant), feminist pandering, politically correct and blindly liberal almost socialist, that it's come to the point where society has no backbone, little moral fibre, and no actual value when it comes to marriage. The old culture of Britain is being WIPED out right in front of the white populations eyes and there's nothing they feel they can do about it, they're incredibly downtrodden. Look at how the overwhelmingly white population (90%) of the UK stood back for over a decade and did nothing as their children were being destroyed in plain sight. The police didn't care, the councils didn't care. There are plenty of chavs out there carrying knives, but they didn't care either. I love white people I really do, but the facts are just damning. Our Punjabi boys (most of them likely mona) on the other hand risk their future to assault that crappy little restaurant. No matter WHAT the police say, they got the right place, they wrecked the right shop, and they stabbed one of the guys involved (who eventually went to jail). We ALL know they did the right thing, and most of the internet knows it too. You know what they've called that shop now? It used to be the Moghul Darbar. NOW it's been reopened as the 'Desi Dera'! HAHAHAHA Like some kinda screwed up peace offering. Still Halal of course... WHAT would have happened if those Sikhs just did a peaceful protest about it instead? NOTHING that's what. The Punjabi way worked. Shere Punjab and all the Seva they did worked. If the Sikh community just ACCEPTED our vigilante nature and didn't marginalize the very people trying to wake them up and solve their problems as troublemakers, well we wouldn't be talking about this crap EVEN NOW would we? We COULD have Shere Punjab on standby in every major city by now like the Sikh Misls back in the old days, but we don't. It's high time to STOP blaming the girls. None of this is their fault, almost all of it is totally avoidable. It is the older generation and the Gurdwara's that have TOTALLY failed us. Western Sikhs are taught absolutely NOTHING about Sikhi at the Gurdwara, and learning Gurmukhi at 'Punjabi School' doesn't achieve anything. Not only that, but ANY solutions of any kind by the younger generation have been soundly rejected by the Gurdwara's. Arguments turn into fights and the police get called in. Our education systems are so bad that's it's almost LITERALLY the case that it's only kids from Amritdhari families that are taught and have any real familiarity with Sikhi. The rest of us can't even name our 10 Guru's nevermind what order they come in. It's a COMPLETELY different world we live in. Going to Gurdwara has become a ritual, the idea of actually partaking like getting on the stage and singing some Gurbani (supposed to be open to all Sikhs) is some wierd alien concept, and the truth is the Gurdwara probably wouldn't allow it anyway... How can a child ever be expected to learn about and love Sikhi, Punjab and their history by themselves? Aside from researching obscure boring websites that haven't been updated for a decade? This is why Basics of Sikhi is like the best thing to happen to the panth for a longass time. If our children aren't taught OUR culture/history (both Sikhi and Punjabi) they are disarmed, gullible and weak with no frame of reference and will just latch onto whatever culture they are exposed to be it acting like they're White or even 'Urban Youth'. Punjabi culture through Bhangra has at least been SOMEWHAT able to step in and fill in the gaping ignorance. Kids don't even know that Islam was an INVADING force in India, simply knowing that tiny bit of context alone kinda changes EVERYTHING. Do you expect the schools to teach this stuff? Good luck!!! We sometimes get Sikhs from Canada on this forum wondering what the hell is wrong with us in the UK, how is child grooming even a REAL THING here? They wonder if it's something that's coming their way once the Muslim population grows. Surrey is basically mini-Punjab, moreso than Southall. The Punjabi culture is ridiculously strong over there because of all the immigration. Frankly Canadian Sikhs are nutty, they were stupid enough to blow up a plane once after all... They've had guys like Bindy Johal in the limelight. We have spineless idiots like Param Singh. Bindy Johal was a goddamn criminal, but you can respect the fact that he would never have allowed this grooming crap to happen for a second, he would have had them all executed. If they STAY Punjabi in Canada, then honestly they probably don't have much to worry about... What we need to do is to throw away this ridiculous Western attitude that has crept into and rotted our panth, it's done us NO favours. We need to embrace Punjabi JOR, not undermine it. NO more of this 'brown unity' and 'Asian' crap either, which is only ever used against us. Muslims will ALWAYS act like Muslims, Islamic culture DEMANDS UNIFORMITY. Why can't we behave like Sikhs? Not Westerners. Not Pacifists. But actual Punjabi Sikhs. A Khalsa that is NOT WILLING to fight, kill and die... is no Khalsa at all. Sikhs in the past endured such crazy amounts of pain and came out on top, and now here we are... paralyzed over some pathetic bottom feeding child rapists? Muslims should FEAR Sikhs, because any evil against us will be met with nothing but bloody brutality. Filthy cowards only do things when they think they can get away with it. Police should FEAR Sikhs, because we don't care about their arbritary laws and their 'community cohesion', and we'd leave groomers dead in the streets for them to clean up (burying things under the rug and tidying is all the police seem to be good for...). Singh means LION right? Well... lions have never lived in Britain. They lived in Punjab.

  25. ^^^ Waheguru ji, you don't need to give explanations to anyone. It's everone's their own level of spirituality and Guru sahib's kirpa. Those who have problems with sants or sant followers, please refrain from this thread. This is a humble request.

  26. Khalsa Ji, I am a Sant follower; the biggest Sant ever, for me, is Dhan Dhan SGGS Ji Maharajh. The following, from SGGS, is just one example, where the term "Sant" is used for somweone, other than Guru Sahiban: ਪੰਨਾ 856, ਸਤਰ 7 ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਾਖੀ ਹਰਨਾਖਸੁ ਨਖ ਬਿਦਰਿਓ ॥੩॥ Sanṯ parahlāḏ kī paij jin rākẖī harnākẖas nakẖ biḏri▫o. ||3|| He preserved the honor of Prahlaad, and destroyed Harnaakhash with his nails. ||3|| ਭਗਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ Khalsa Ji, I do not follow deh dhari Gurus; I have no respect, or time for people who, consider themselves, to be above SGGS... Waheguru....

  28. This incident is from the life of Giani Sant Singh Ji Maskeen "During this phase of my life in 1980 I met one such elderly man in Ludhiana who told me he had come to talk to me on a very important matter confidentially. He wanted me to ask the others to leave the room. On his insistence I closed the doors of the room but even than he let Bhai Jai Singh Darvesh who was a ragi who used to travel with me stay with me. He told me to have the treasury of Darbar Sahib transferred to Delhi. I told him though I was a member of the Dharam Prachaar Committee for a few months this task was beyond my capability. He professed that the treasury would be destroyed. He wanted me to have the Reference Library and most of the historic scriptures moved either to Anandpur Sahib or to Delhi.I told him that I could not do much about it myself but I would definitely talk to my senior Singh Sahib Giani Chet Singh Ji the ex-Head Granthi. He talked about some other things to and nearly all these incidents eventually happened and he talked about this in 1980. He told me there would be streams of blood in Darbar Sahib and for some time it would not be under Sikh control. Though in those days there was no clue that this could have happened. Peace and harmony prevailed. In a matter of time everything he had mentioned had happened. He had told me that even I too would become a victim of all this and undergo hardship for sometime and true enough from 1984 till 1991 I had all sorts of charges framed against me. I would often recall the words of the old man during my court summons. He had talked about all this in my room at Kalgidhar Singh Sabha in Ludhiana were I was doing Katha at the time. He left after his talks. Afterwords I felt the urge to know more from him and started looking for him but could not find him.About 90% of what he had told me occured but he had talked about something more terrifying than that which never happened. May the Guru protect us and avoid it."

  29. Khalsa Ji, Some are of the opinion that "Sant" or "Sadh", in SGGS Maharajh, only refers to Guru Sahiban, and no one else. It's a sad shame that, we as Sikhs, consider SGGS incapable of producing Sant avasta. It's a shame that we consider our Guru to be limited, in powers. We, as sikhs, believe IN Guru Granth Sahib; it's a shame that we don't believe in it's pwer.... Waheguru.......

  30. Great post jashb paji. Only thing i would say is though lets please refer to these culprits as Dusths and not label any particular community within the Panth. The Sevadaar who Maharaj blessed with this mahaan seva of bringing this out to the rest of the Panth have written a very good true account of events, without once mentioning or blaming any specific community within the Panth. Baentee for all of us is to learn that anybody (irrespectve of so called Jaat or standing in the Panth) who disrepects Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee Maharaj can never recieve Guru Jees blessings and their true colours will one day be revealed to the whole Sangat. Apolgies for any mistakes. Fateh Jee

  31. This is my impression of our Shaheeds speaking to those who leave Sikhi as a result of inappropriate pre-marital relationships. I have written this in a very painful state of mind reading news of Sikh girls (and boys) destroying their lives, especially after reading all those grooming news articles about what has been happening in UK. Gurmukh pyaareyo, we now speak to you This one small thing we want to get through Just so you woke up in freedom at dawn We smiled while we were brutally sawn Just so you had joys that were high priced We didn't care if our scalp was sliced Just so you relished celebrations that were grand We fought with our severed heads on our hands Just so you could thrive on this planet, although scattered We mounted those wheels to get ourselves shattered We went through that agony, we went through that pain Just so you wouldn't face them again We got ourselves boiled, bruised and burnt But can you tell us what have you learnt? You decide to quit Sikhi in the blink of an eye You shame our blood before every passerby The pleasures of the flesh have made you blind What species are you? Oh what is your kind? We held to our faith inspite of being blown We roared the Jakaare as bombs were thrown In came the enemy, and their huge tanks rode In our dying moments we defended Guru's abode Bullets hit us bad and our skin was torn Delighted we died, coz we don't know how to mourn Our foes bowed their heads seeing our determination We faced them head on, not fearing extermination But today you kids have brought us shame Please tell us this much, who do we blame? You first ruin your bodies, and then you soil your souls Your brains have become rotten, and mind is full of holes Are you really those, for whom we smiled at death? Smiled as we were losing our very last breath? Are you really those who would make us proud? Or forget about us as a passing rain cloud? For you we saw our babies getting ripped apart We didn't act clever, cunning or smart For you we happily had our skin peeled But your choices today have your fate sealed If you still have honor in the least bit Then listen to this message if you think you are fit Sikhi is what made us into all that you read We were not mere sheep, we were a lion's breed You proudly hang our images instead What use are they? To bang your head? You shame our blood, you shame our names! Your false pride will soon go up in flames! Today we are hurt, today we are ashamed This generation is spiritually maimed Gurmukh pyaareyo, we now speak to you This one small thing we want to get through You've fallen in our eyes, you've fallen from grace We wait for you to come and show us that face Mehtab Singh September 3, 2013
