  2. Not really a new year's resolution, I started dieting and got my BMI down from 28.6 which is overweight to 24.2 which is classed as healthy within 3 months. All I did was cut down on snacks, eat two square meals a day and have have two fruits for lunch. Breakfast should be either a bowl of porridge or two pieces of wholemeal bread as toast with some low fat spread and cucumber/tomato and some sweetcorn. Dinner was 3 rotis and dal/sabzi etc. I also did regular walking each day about 5 miles a day on weekdays and 10 miles at weekends. In three months I went from 99 kg down to now 84 kg. That's about 15 stone 8lbs down to 13 stone 3lbs

  3. Whats it matter if your Sikh Christian Hindu Muslim? The facts are crystal clear. 3 of 5 English Killers implicated in the 1992 Racist Murder of an Affro carribean boy Stephen Lawrence are yet to be bought to Justice!! The Racist Killing of Black Schoolboy Rolan Adams by ENglish racist Thugs results in a 2 year sentance!! 2 Years for ending the life of a 15 year old?? The Killers of Indian Rohit Duggal are not bought to book. Indian Satpal Ram was jailed 15 years for defending his own life. Justice? Whats it matter if its English justicce american justice or indian Justice. The Rulebook has to be applied fairly no matter what colour Race Religion someone is. Mahatma Ghandi had supported Racial Apartheid in South Africa and wrote letters sympathising with Hitlers Secretary. Was he a "Terrorist sympathiser" for South African Natives and jewish Diaspora in Germany? But a Saviour for Upper Class Hindus? or does the definition of terrorist always stay the same?

  4. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-25316370 Quoted from BBC... "A Sikh gang convicted of slashing a retired Indian general's throat in revenge for a 1984 military offensive has been jailed. Lieutenant-General Kuldeep Singh Brar, 78, was attacked as he walked with his wife in central London in 2012. Mandeep Singh Sandhu, 34, of Birmingham, Dilbag Singh, 37, and Harjit Kaur, 39, both from London, were convicted of wounding with intent. Barjinder Singh Sangha, 33, of Wolverhampton, had admitted the charge. The retired general and his wife, Meena, were heading for a night out in the West End when the attack happened on 30 September 2012, Southwark Crown Court heard. 500 dead Lt Gen Brar was involved in Operation Blue Star against Sikh separatists in Amritsar, north-west India, in June 1984. Lt Gen Brar's protection ranking was raised to the highest possible following the attack in London It left at least 500 people dead and made him the target of anger and revenge attacks. A group of protesters demonstrated outside the court calling for the retired military officer to be indicted as a war criminal for his part in the operation at the Golden Temple. BBC London's Alex Bushill said the group, about a 100-strong at its height, said they do not condone the actions of the attackers but they were protesting about Lt Gen Brar. The demonstrators were from London, Coventry, Birmingham and Wolverhampton. Sentencing the four attackers Judge Jeffrey Pegden QC said: "This was a group attack by young men on a 78-year-old man." The victim "resolutely fought back" and prevented an even more serious harm. 'Drew a knife' Commenting on the role of Kaur the judge said she enabled the "ambush" to take place "swiftly and effectively". Demonstrators called for Lt Gen Brar to be indicted as a war criminal Kaur followed the victim and his wife on the day of the attack, keeping her accomplices informed of the target's movements, who were in waiting. When the couple reached Old Quebec Street, Sangha "drew a knife as the other men held the victim", the jury were told. He was left with a 12-inch cut running across his neck and jaw and another three-inch cut to the jaw. His protection ranking was raised to the highest possible following the attack. Following the sentencing, Commander Richard Walton, head of the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, said: "This was a pre-planned and organised attempt to assassinate General Brar for his military involvement in the siege of the Golden Temple in India in 1984." Mandeep Singh Sandhu and Dilbag Singh were sentenced to 14 years, Harjit Kaur was jailed for 11 years while Barjinder Singh Sangha received a sentence of 10 years and six months".

  5. Why not a 14 day food drive and feed the poor initiative? Surely, that would be much better for Sarbat Da Bhalla...

  10. WGJKKWGJKF paaji i only can compare btwn East Coast of America n Britain never been Canada, but heard its beautiful. tight communities over in W London, W Midlands. You wont feel outta place. With so many folk from India, here, and even different nationalities around you. Things are a lot closer in cities , shops, gurdwaras, emergency supplies. If someone asked before, i would hve discouraged it but now theres a buzzing atmosphere with organisations down South expanding like SWAT, BAsics of Sikhi, and further up North Lots of Sikhi Parchar. I hear South Shields Gurdwara has a Panj Piara committee for ages too. Things are smaller, homes, rds, towns, everything, its like going into old metro areas. Places like Leamington Spa are very nice classy Traditional leafy parts with a small sizeable sangat. Bit far out of London though. Lots to see depends what your into dude. All the best. id love to go Southern Alaska oddhi

  11. **SOPW PRESS RELEASE** A DEBT HONOURED - SOPW WITH THE SANGAT'S SUPPORT AWARDS 5 LAKH RUPEES TO EACH OF THE SIX PRISONERS. Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa’s peaceful campaign has led to the start of a process to release six long-serving Sikh political prisoners, by securing their release on parole. He played his part in awakening the wider public to the ongoing injustices against Sikhs in India. As part of this movement we saw people from all over the world, raising awareness and taking part in hunger strikes, including five Singh’s who spent five bitterly cold days and nights, outside the Indian Embassy in London. For over five years, SOPW has been committed to the welfare of all Sikh political prisoners. This process consists of the following steps: - Once we identify a prisoner, we immediately take care of his or her basic needs, eg. food, clothes, toiletries, books, magazines and newspapers, to make prison life a little easier. - We talk to them to find out who they have left behind in their family; elderly parents with no other support, a family member in need of medical attention, their children whose education is interrupted, a sibling who is due to be married and of course, their family home which may be in need of urgent repairs. Our fieldworkers remain in regular contact with the prisoner as well as his/her family; providing advice, support and financial aid. - Often, we find that the Sikhs had inadequate legal representation, with the lawyers taking the money but not getting the results. So we hire the best legal team for them, personally monitor the court case, cover the necessary bail bonds and other hidden costs involved in getting the prisoner released. Financing the lawyers makes up a large part of our costs as some cases need to be taken all the way to High Court and even Supreme Court level, where the expertise of just one lawyer can cost upwards of £10,000. - Our support does not stop upon release. We run a rehabilitation programme; which provides the means for self-sufficiency, so that they can support their own family and rebuild their lives with dignity after decades in Indian jails. Our philosophy is to “thrive, not just survive”. We have tried our best to support these prisoners through all of the above stages. The SOPW team feel it is in keeping with our religious and moral duty to support these Singh’s as they taste freedom for the first time in many years. We have also been inundated with messages from the worldwide Sangat, who wish to see these Singh’s supported. IN KEEPING WITH SOPW AND THE SANGAT’S WISHES, WE HUMBLY ANNOUNCE A REHABILITATION PACKAGE OF 500,000 Rs (over £5,000) TO EACH OF THE FOLLOWING SIX; Gurmeet Singh Shamsher Singh Lakhwinder Singh Lal Singh Varyam Singh Gurdeep Singh Khera They will be starting their lives again from the beginning, after spending over 18 years behind bars – a time during which the world has changed. We are not giving these brave Singh’s a handout. United, we the Sikh Nation, are paying back the debt to those who stood up against an oppressive State system and brought to an end the mindless killing of thousands of our innocent Sikh youth. We have the following nominated volunteers around the global Sikh community, who have put themselves forward for this project and will assist you with your enquiries: SOPW (UK)-0300 999 0187 INDIA: BHAI RAJINDER PAL SINGH-0091 935 772 3874 USA: BHAI BALBIR SINGH (CHICAGO)-001 937 776 3358 CANADA: BHAI AVTAR SINGH-001 778 846 8419 ITALY: BHAI JASVIR SINGH-0039 3899 838 761 OR BHAI SATNAM SINGH-0039 3332 110 444 SPAIN: BHAI GAGANDEEP SINGH-0034 600 772 727 OR BHAI LABH SINGH 0034 632 136 018 GERMANY: BHAI GURPAL SINGH ‘PALA’-0049 1762 1695 928 HOLLAND: BHAI HARJIT SINGH-0031 620 682 862 OR BHAI BALHAAR SINGH-0031 653 835 018 FRANCE: BHAI SATNAM SINGH ‘GATKA’-0033 628 232 936 SWEDEN: BHAI RAMANDEEP SINGH-004 687 249 058 If you, the Sangat, wish to contribute to this seva, here are the following ways you can donate: FROM OVERSEAS: International IBAN no: GB75MIDL40421341572733 Swift/BIC code: MIDLGB2155M FROM THE UK: Bank: HSBC Account Number: 41572733 Sort Code:40-42-13 You can send a cheque, made payable to SOPW, PO Box 690, Southall, Middlesex UB1 9QL. 12. Patna: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday raked up a controversy after he did not cover his head inside Bal Leela Gurudwara. Kumar's refusal to cover his head irked the Sikh community that accorded him a grand reception at the gurudwara. According to reports, Nitish Kumar was invited to inaugurate a rest house at the Bal Leela Gurudwara. He was requested to cover his head before entering the gurudwara premises, which is a strict protocol of the Sikh community. Nitish flatly refused to oblige citing poor health as a reason. Nitish entered the premises without his head covered. http://daily.bhaskar.com/article/BIH-bihar-cm-nitish-kumars-refusal-to-cover-head-at-bal-leela-gurudwara-in-patna-lea-4477197-PHO.html

  13. There are poems written on science. These poems on science are all factual. But why use poetic form to write science? Why write any message in poetic form? People with less knowledge would not take these poems written on science at face value. Simply because the facts are written in poetic form. With time i can see a lot more ignorance taking place. As many more people will call science false just because some writers have taken a poetic way to convey a message on science. Something written in poetic form does not make the whole statement just a metaphor with half truths in it. This is one of the biggest mistakes any person can make when reading Gurbani or science for that matter. Poetry can be used to express the truth as it is used in Gurbani and science. Poetic form delivers the message home a lot quicker and sticks in the mind a lot longer. In Gurbani poetic form is used to instill a true message in a person. Also absolute statement is a statement which cannot be wrong. Here is an example of an absolute statement: It will be sunny all day today. In this statement there is no uncertainty on how the weather will be today or room for interpretation. The interpretation of this absolute statement is simple as today it will be sunny all day. If a person like you came along and said, "I interpret this absolute statement to say that the writer was saying it will be partially sunny today." Then every person that understands absolute statements will know you disagree with the absolute statement. No one that understands absolute statements will say you interpret it differently because there is only one clear interpretation of such statements. Here is Gurbani in a absolute statement saying Guru is God: ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੭॥੯॥ गुरु नानकु नानकु हरि सोइ ॥४॥७॥९॥ Gur Nānak Nānak har so▫e. ||4||7||9|| Nanak is the Guru; Nanak is the Lord Himself. ||4||7||9|| ang 864

  14. What those 4 Sikhs did was what every Sikh out there would have done if Brar was in front of them. The man is a war criminal who is responsible for thousands of deaths(including of babies!). What makes him worse is that he was one of us(Sikh), yet he committed such an atrocity on his own people. Their punishment is overly harsh, and it's hard to believe it did not have political considerations. The UK like many western countries knows India is a growing economy and everyone want a piece of it.

  18. When you accept Seva, expect harsh sentences..... Half'a job......full penalty...... Harsh but true, they are Bra's victims, not vice versa!!!!

  19. What a joke! You get that sentence for murder not for wounding! Obviously Cameron has told the judge that they need to please India in order to get the next defence contract.
