  1. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ?? Parents - pearents do not bother to imbibe sikh traditions to the next generations , in fact they see it useless , saying appe sikh jayega , whilst they take great pains to see the kids perform well at acamedics , also they are not able to set example for the kids Pracharaks - The pracharaks (preachers ) are not trained to respond well to the querries of the generation , the committed ,well read, able to satisfy the querries & educated ppl are not encouraged to take up the challenge as the pracharak class is not well paid , in fact all the gurudwara staff are under paid all around( that is what i have seen & felt ) in india Granthi in village gurdwara are paid even less than minimum wage specified under various Govt schemes - can we expect them to take interest in keeping themselves well informed & updated in knowledge ? There are some educated persons who are working selfless service in this regard , but see what they have to face lot of discourgements & critism from the established Dera People \ Babeys who feel themselves threatened with the approach of such people , going all out to shun their voice . SGPC & leadership- What kind of pracharaks are being prepared by SGPC , less said is better , the syllabus is ageold , they do not teach the future pracharaks comparative religion , logic , philosophy of other faiths ( except ancient indian thought ) result is that such pracharaks are blank when confronted with western philosophy this is only illustrative , can be discussed in details , ABOVE ALL THE TRAINING STARTS RIGHT FROM THE CRADLE WHEN THE MOTHER RECITES GURBANI WITH HER CHILD IN HER LAP , some one may agree or not i have felt it within my family , with all the values given by our mother to us all 5 brothers & sister . And further whoever of us have passed further , is with active participationn of the wives of us Brothers only ( We are 2nd gen into Sikhi , our Father converted ,& the tradition being passed over to our next Generation fateh

  2. That's true for Indian Sikhs not for Western Sikhs. Turban will only vanish if Sikhi vanishes and that will never happen.

  3. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh 30 years ago, on 3rd June 1984, Indira Gandhi (a corrupt dictator of India who abused the rule of law) ordered the Indian army to conduct a Sikh Genocide and attack the most holiest Sikh Gurdwara (Sri Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar also known as the Golden Temple) and up to 40 other Sikh Gurdwara's across the Punjab. Thousands of Sikhs, including women and children were murdered. An Indian army of 100,000 mobilized and deployed throughout Punjab with automatic weapons, tanks, artillery, helicopters and armoured vehicles against civilian Sikhs who were mainly farmers. The media was banned. The pretext to the Sikh genocide was that the army were seeking to arrest one man... The Akal Takht, the symbolic seat of supreme Sikh temporal authority was reduced to rubble. Gurdwara Darbar Sahib was damaged with over 300 tank shells and bullets. The Sikh Reference Library with precious hand written manuscripts of the Gurus was looted and then burned to the ground. The Akal Takht treasury Toshakhana with priceless historical artefacts of Maharaja Ranjit Singh was also looted and burned. Can you imagine the Italian army destroying the Vatican? or the Saudi's ordering an attack on Mecca? Some governments, including the UK, betrayed the Sikhs and supported the Indians against the Sikhs. The world's press supported unsubstantiated, false claims by Indian propaganda and dehumanized Sikh's (one of the eight stages of Genocide), calling them extremists/ militants. Are you taking part in one of the many organised marches across the world? If so, where? (New York, London, ?) Why did the world, including the UN, turn a blind eye? Do you think justice will ever be done? To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Sikh Genocide we have released a collection of 71 speeches by Baba Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and a set of speeches by Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra (who uncovered Sikh genocide with Indian Police involvement during the 1984-94 period). Both paid for their service to Sikhi by being murdered at the hands of the Indian state. http://www.discoversikhism.com/sikh_media/speeches_of_baba_jarnail_singh_bhindranwale.html http://www.discoversikhism.com/sikh_media/speeches_of_bhai_jaswant_singh_khalra.html If you have any more speeches of Baba Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra or anyone else, please let us know. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Sikh Genocide we have released pages with more information on Sikh Genocide and Sikh Freedom Movements. http://www.discoversikhism.com/sikhism/freedom.html http://www.discoversikhism.com/sikhism/ghallughara.html

  4. Heat is catching up ... India's Lok Sabha Elections results to be declared in a couple of days. EXIT-POOLS by India's paid media shows BJP to be the clear winner and Mr. Modi to be the next PM. Mr. Modi is denied entry by US and other Western Nations (VISA for human rights violations) for his alleged role in 2002 Muslim massacre in Gujarat. It is surprising to see how the democracy of India works - Rajiv Gandhi got record thumping victory after 1984, after his role as designer and architect of 1984 SIKH Genocide. After Rajiv Gandhi, another politician alleged for minorities massacre gets record victories three-times in a state election and now for the country's Lok Sabha elections. Interesting to see, how massacre of minorities helps Indian politician's come to power with thumping majority. Interesting to see how Western world will react to Mr. Modi being elected as the PM of India. Interesting to see what this will bring for Sikh farmers in Gujarat (they are sure to loose their land now). Interesting to see how much damage RSS and BJP will do to Sikh culture throughout India now with the help of FAKE-AKALI's.

  5. I've actually realised that the kanga is just seen to a simple wooden comb that is to look after our kesh but what many are unaware of is it has great significance to a gursikhs life and nature. A kanga is symbolic of a gursikhs nature. The rehat maryada tells us that it is important to do the kanga in our kesh 2 times a day. I was told that firstly in the morning when doing your kanga talk to yourself and your Guru about not wanting to hurt anyone throughout the day. Just as you take care and avoid pulling any healthy hair out similarly think about not wanting to upset anyone unnecessarily and at night when doing the kanga again reflect back on your day, have you hurt anyone ? This notion of doing your kanga should also reflect your nature as when you do your kanga you look after the good and healthy hair and the kanga takes out the old and weak hair so when you look at someone, what you do is adopt and 'look after' their good action/behaviour and remove their bad. As result you will be taking the good out your life and leaving the bad behind. This little bit of time spent with your kanga is so important as many human worries can be removed simply by reflecting back on yourself, which In todays modern world we simply do not have enough time to do. When a gursikh will look back and analyse their day and themselves he/she will be happier as your flaws will prevent ego and mistakes will give the solutions to your problems. Finally it will create happiness. We also use our kanga to clean and tidy our hair which is symbolic of a clean and tidy life. Doing our kanga 2 times a day allows us to love and groom ourselves, this does not mean we are being manmukh (self centred) instead we are allowing ourselves to accept natural beauty and thank god for his precious gift. bhul chuk maaf :khalsa:

  7. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/may/14/excerpts-guardian-reporting-first-world-war 12 Nov 1914: When the Indians Arrived The people of the Raj – modern India and Pakistan – were not consulted about their participation in the war. More than 1 million soldiers served overseas in the Indian army – and 75,000 died. By autumn 1914, Indians were on the western front. It was a curious sight to all of us, French or English, the day when the Indians arrived in a dreary little town of Northern France … Suddenly the Indian Lancers appeared, and the pavement on both sides of the street was at once filled by a crowd of soldiers and civilians watching the procession, as a London crowd will do in Whitehall on the day of the opening of Parliament. In fact, those Indians looked all like kings. The Lancers sat proudly in their saddles, with their heads upright under the Oriental crowns; then came a regiment of Sikhs, walking at a brisk pace, all big and strong men, with curled beards and the wide 'pagri' round the ears; the Pathans followed, carrying on their heads that queer pointed bonnet, the 'kullah,' which reminds one of the warriors seen on old Persian tapestries – a more slender type of men, but equally determined, and with faces at the same time smiling and resolute. … The day after, we heard that during the night one of the Sikh regiment had had to recapture the trench, which the Germans had taken by surprise, and that their bayonet charge was so tremendous that the enemy did not dare counter-attack. Almost immediately after that feat an order came not to allow the Indians uselessly to expose their lives by walking out of the trenches. The fact was that, in order to show their contempt for death, some Sikhs had refused to hide themselves in the trenches and had immediately drawn a fierce fire on their regiment. Fortunately, they did not insist on playing that sort of game; otherwise the Indian Army Corps would have disappeared in one week's time out of sheer bravery. […] A 'Black Maria' fell quite near a sapper while he was lying on the ground and steadily firing on the advancing foe. It did not hurt him, but dug a hole six feet deep at his side. The sapper – a Sikh, I believe – waited until the smoke had gone, and then jumped into the hole. He soon found that the position was a comfortable one, and started firing from the cover the Germans had dug for him; according to officers who were standing by, he managed to kill some fifteen or twenty Germans by himself, and would have remained there for ever if he had not been eventually ordered to retreat. He was warmly congratulated afterwards, but did not appear to think he had done anything remarkable.

  8. Okayyy I Would not lie because I was also monah before for a long time... The first main reason of our Girls...Because My point of view is that Woman has an huge impact on the mentality of Men... Men do most of the things that make the women feel better... ,,Secondly ,,Punjabi Movies/songs...Thirdly , when you are sikh, You have some responsibilities towards the society and family that's why sikh guys try to avoid it....Fourthly,, The mentality has been drawn in such a way that " you re still a sikh if you don't follow the discipline.. As a result sikh people find it useless to keep hair especially Girls... Believe me its still not that hard to find a saabat soorat guy in cities of punjab...,,but its really hard to find a sikh girl who is wearing chunni on her head and salwar kameej.....Even you will see in many sikh families in cities sikh Guy is ordered to have natural growth but at the same time when you look at his any female family member she is allowed to have rebonding of her hair, facial make ups, allowed to go saloons , damn piercings etc etc.... when you will go to punjab youwill miss a gutt waali kudhi.........

  9. You shouldn't refer to muslims as Muzzies. Its not the prampara of Sikhs to call others with disrespect, whatever a rare few of them do.

  10. How long will continue to live in the past and live off out past glories? The question is- how many so called "modern Sikhs" would have the courage to do this?? Not too many I am afraid.

  11. Problem with some of the young youth is that they feel that as long as they are not committing a bujjer kurehit/cardinal sin, then they can get away with other manmat actions. It's as if committing the kurehit is the 'biggie' - as you can make your amrit void and be thrown out of the panth ! Rightly so... you can be excommunicated for any of the major kurehits.. Sadly, they seem to see it like a driving licence, whereby you can go around breaking laws like speeding, jumping lights..etc... but if you do a 'biggie' (stupid speeds, reckless,dui..etc)..then your license is revoked. Being a gursikh and part of khalsa panth is not like any other organization where you can retain your membership as long as you don't play outside the set lines. Being a gursikh is about EVERY single action, reasoning, and general conduct always being GURMAT.

  12. For what reason should she feel ashamed? She married a non-Sikh, but did she ever know anything about Sikhi? No? So why are we angry at her? Not everyone has the luxury of being taught about Sikhi growing up. You guys need to consider this. They do not consider themselves Sikhs to begin with, they are just normal people, and so marrying any other person is perfectly acceptable. Why are we blaming her for that? Imagine girls reading these posts. Men being quite nasty about a sister they know very little about. What would they think about Singhs? And about Sikhi? The problem is the lack of education or whatever else, and it will NOT get anywhere near to being fixed through judgement and slander. Endlessly blaming girls rather than understanding and isolating the problems is more ignorant.

  14. How is that a joke? and how is that statement anti-sikh? Youth are told they're not sikh unless they have kesh. why should they even bother to make an effort to discover sikhi with the possibility of advancing and keeping kesh when they are sidelined right from the beginning? Cool Water made valid points. You post a question on an open forum, you get a response and then you critise rather than accept it as a differing opinion. lol another reason why youth cba with our people. our elders run the show, their opinion counts, everyone elses is just invalid.

  16. Great response.....also add: Families not passing on and Inspiring Children in Sikhi. Pressure on their children to do well in professions whilst not caring about spiritual needs and what really matters. Hypocracy within leadership.

  17. "The anti-sikh parchariks are telling youth you cant be a Sikh unless you have kesh, etc the same mistake made by SGPC which put all sahejdhari's into the camp of hindu punjabi's" Good joke. According to you it is anti Sikh to have kesh. And my question was what is reason of patitpuna.

  18. VJKK VJKF Dear poster, the word "Ehran" is mentioned in the 39th pauri of Japji Sahib. As far as I know "Ehran" is a something that you put under something so that the object on top stays firm and does not move while the object is being struck with a hammer or something. Guru Ji is saying that that we should have an "Ehran matt". Our intellect that is filled with concepts and main points of Gurbani should be as firm as an "Ehran". It could also mean that we should stick to Gurmat. The whole pauri needs to be understood so you know how "Ehran matt" fits into the picture that Guru Ji is trying to portray. Do listen to katha on this pauri so you can better understand it. This is a small attempt. Sangat Ji do add to this. VJKK VJKF

  19. Did someone from the forum go up to them and insult their religion? If we are so sensitive about what someone claims to have done for us. There being no verification for their story, then we should really be thinking about changing some of the verse of Bachittar Natak. I mean is it not highly insulting to these good Muslims' religion to say that Mohammed subverted his own mission for which God sent him and created his own sect rather than bring people to the worship of God? How about the insult of referring to Allah as endowing each being with his light so how can anyone say who is good or bad. The Quran clearly tells us that non-believers are like animals so are we not insulting Islam by dismissing the Quran's claims? How about when the same verse refers to Allah as permeating in all his creation, something that is heresy in Islam? I suggest we get a committee of LegalSingh, Neo, Thunderousdominator together so they can start to process of editing, so that Muslims don't feel insulted.
