  1. Well, to my mind, I'm actually treating politicians the same. E.g., if a Sikh is loose in rehit, the people around him should gently persuade him to be stricter. Same for politicians. And, for example, shopkeepers, do you care if a shopkeeper gets up at 1am in the morning to do simran and nitnem? As a customer, you care only if the product is good, and the price is right. Same for politicians. Are you talking about Bahadur Shah? I'm just talking about the general provisions for women in Islam. And then the general stance toward women by rajas, which is basically use and abuse. But Guru Sahib knew that going in. Does anybody argue that Bahadur Shah was a Gurmukh? OK, bro. But let me offer you a hypothetical: You have a leader who is a bajjer kurehiti, apostate. He doesn't follow strictures of religion, but he's a bigshot leader, and he offers us the ability to get our own country. Do you take your country, or do you refuse the country because you wouldn't want it handed to you with a guy loose in rehit? OK, I lied, it wasn't a hypothetical. I'm talking about the father of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. As you know, he was basically apostate from Islam, being a lover of pork and wine and all. If the Pakistanis went by the picky standards of some of us, they'd not have a country, but hey, they'd at least not have suffered the ignominy of being led by an apostate. (By the way, I'm one of the most conservative posters on this board regarding rehit and maryada. But that's for Sikhs as Sikhs, not for politicians as politicians.) Also, in your hypothetical, what if it's a Hindu Punjabi or other non-Sikh who's doing all that stuff? Then do you care about his personal life?

  2. I really don't know much about babies! but I've read how its important for the mother to do lot's of paath while pregnant and when the baby is born make sure that you do paath and simran next to the baby. Even by playing a Waheguru Simran tape in your house will be really good. I'm sure some of the other users will know better ...

Aside from soorma Singh's teaching and performing kirtan and Prof Surinder Singh who walks with a stick, all other kirtanis I've come across have been able bodied.

  6. REALITY OF LIFE One Sunday morning, a wealthy man sat in his balcony enjoying sunshine and his coffee, when a little ant caught his eye which was going from one side to the other side of the balcony carrying a big leaf several times more than its size. The man watched it for more than an hour. He saw that the ant faced many impediments during its journey, paused, took a diversion and then continued towards its so destination. At one point the tiny creature came across a crack in the floor. It paused for a little while, analyzed and then laid the huge leaf over the crack, walked over the leaf, picked the leaf on the other side then continued its journey. The man was captivated by the cleverness of the ant, one of God’s tiniest creatures. The incident left the man in awe and forced him to contemplate over the miracle of Creation. It showed the greatness of the Creator. In front of his eyes there was this tiny creature of God, lacking in size yet equipped with a brain to analyze, contemplate, reason, explore, discover and overcome. Along with all these capabilities, the man also noticed that this tiny creature shared some human shortcomings. The man saw about an hour later the creature had reached its destination – a tiny hole in the floor which was entrance to its underground dwelling. And it was at this point that the ant’s shortcoming that it shared with the man was revealed. How could the ant carry into the tiny hole the large leaf that it had managed to carefully bring to the destination? It simply couldn't! So the tiny creature, after all the painstaking and hard work and exercising great skills, overcoming all the difficulties along the way, just left behind the large leaf and went home empty-handed. The ant had not thought about the end before it began its challenging journey and in the end the large leaf was nothing more than a burden to it. The creature had no option, but to leave it behind to reach its destination. The man learned a great lesson that day. Isn't that the truth about our lives? We worry about our family, we worry about our job, we worry about how to earn more money, we worry about where we should live – 5 bedroom or 6 bedroom house, what kind of vehicle to buy – a Mercedes or BMW or a Porsche, what kind of dresses to wear, all sorts of things, only to abandon all these things when we reach our destination – The Grave. We don’t realize in our life’s journey that these are just burdens that we are carrying with utmost care and fear of losing them, only to find that at the end they are useless and we can’t take them with us.....

  7. The sangat has to be worthy of the title, in my opinion. Having a gaggle of - hitherto undiscovered - adulterers, fraudsters, and practitioners of the dark arts (?) sitting in judgement of someone who's a comparative angel compared to the types of individuals I've mentioned, is laughably poor form. Nobody's going to voluntarily raise their hand and come clean about their own transgressions, but you better believe there's going to be some holier-than-thou finger wagging occurring when the chappal is on the other foot. In theory it's undoubtedly a fine practice, but knowing all we do about our people and human behaviour in general, how is it enforceable in a way that does justice to the obviously good and honourable religious precedent established by our spiritual and religious guides?

  8. Theoretical background of responsibility toward Sangat If you don't understand the theoretical background, let me spell it out for you: Guru Sahib created the institution of Sangat for spiritual enlightenment and progress. Congregating with like-minded individuals aids in spiritual progress: ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ Mil Sangath Man Naam Vasaaee || Joining the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, the Name comes to dwell in the mind. Mil Sathasangath Har Gun Gaaeae Jag Bhoujal Dhuthar Thareeai Jeeo ||1|| Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, you shall cross over the treacherous and terrifying world-ocean. Mil Sathasang Bolee Har Baanee || Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I chant the Bani of the Lord's Word. Har Har Kathhaa Maerai Man Bhaanee || The Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, is pleasing to my mind. Har Har Anmrith Har Man Bhaavai Mil Sathigur Anmrith Peejai Jeeo ||2|| The Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's Name, Har, Har, is so sweet to my mind. Meeting the True Guru, I drink in this Ambrosial Nectar. ੯ Raag Maajh Guru Ram Das Good sangat increases love of God: ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ॥ Kirapaa Karae Jis Paarabreham Hovai Saadhhoo Sang || The Supreme Lord showers His Mercy, and we find the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Jio Jio Ouhu Vadhhaaeeai Thio Thio Har Sio Rang || The more we increase it, the more we become imbued in God's love. ੪ Sri Raag Guru Arjan Dev That's the fruit of good sangat. 11. Nothing you have to say above is unknown to soojhvaan Singhs in Punjab. GOI intel agencies systematically work to flare-up key differences among various jatheybandees, they know what issues to play to pit Sikhs against each other. The most easiest are actually sampardaic related factions in Punjab, given that how volatile their rationale is. (low level of tolerance for minor differences with others)ing Another thing is, when some one becomes a prominent figure in the Panthic scene in Punjab. GOI intel works to turn them into their agent, naturally offer loads of $$$ . Chanakya 101: know the difference among your enemies, exploit it & make them fight. Let them exhaust each other. A prominent politician Singh in Punjab who I know, himself was approached by GOI intel agents and told me the above strategies GOI intel has in place.

  12. Thanks. What I say may not be popular with members of the Sangat but it is important to look at these statistics critically and to interrogate thoroughly. Look at the ground realities and see if these statistics are congruent with what is going on. I think our Panth can be quite naive and take things at face value. Our way is to look at things from all angles so we can get a better, fuller picture. Only then are we able to ascertain what needs to be done.

There is a well known kirtani school aka Vadda Dera established in 1859 by Sant Shuddh Singh and later for the visually impaired in Daudhar pind, Moga Dist. Kirtanis such as Gian Singh Surjeet who are no longer with us trained there and I might need to be corrected but I think Sital Singh Sitara as well.

We coped perfectly fine after the Vada Ghallughara when our numbers were in the few thousands and Sikhi according to Bhai Jagraj Singh in one of his videos is one of the fastest growing faiths. We have no need to mix with other faiths (in the context of marriage) and shouldn't as per maryada.

  21. You serious bro? Sikh Sangat is all those who believe in Sikhi. There are local Sikh sangats, as well, as indicated in the Sikh Rehit Maryada, and as also referenced in Hukumnamas from Guru Sahibs. So you think you can dismiss an essay in 6 posts (with references) with 2 lines? What specifically from above do you deny? Did you read it? If you don't want to read it, fine, but don't deny that Sikhs aren't responsible before the Sangat. It's quite surprising that someone such as you who is posting such good pro-Sikh posts about keeping our Sikh population numbers up and looking out for threats from Muslims can post the above. If times have moved on, why even bother about Sikh population numbers? Who even cares? Who cares if Sikhism or the Sikh panth lives or dies? And if this isn't the 18th century anymore, it's certainly not the 16th or 17th century anymore, either, when Guru Granth Sahib ji was written. So why should we even bother with a 16th/17th century writing? What are you on about, bro?

  23. Historical examples When a Sikh broke a Hindu's idol, the Hindu came to complain to Guru Hargobind ji. That's because the Sikh is responsible before his Guru. Today, jot of the Guru is in Guru Granth Sahib and the Guruship is practically held by the Sangat, Panth, and Panj Piyare. When Jassa Singh Ahluwalia was thought to have killed his infant daughter, he was held responsible, and was excommunicated by the Sangat (Panth). When Maharaja Ranjit Singh committed a flagrant violation of the Sikh rehit by wanting to marry a Muslim woman, he was held responsible before the Sangat by the Akal Takhat. If he wasn't responsible before the Sangat, then why did he present himself before at Amritsar? There are examples after examples of Sikhs being held responsible before the sangat in history. These include Surjit Singh Barnala, Baba Santa Singh, Buta Singh, Kala Afghana, and many others. Your position (that a Sikh is not responsible before Sangat) has absolutely no historical or doctrinal basis.

  24. Bad sangat, and dissociation with bad sangat And just as good sangat increases spirituality, bad sangat destroys it: ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਰੀ ਮਰਉ ਕੁਸੰਗ ਕੀ ਕੇਲੇ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਜੁ ਬੇਰਿ ॥ Kabeer Maaree Maro Kusang Kee Kaelae Nikatt J Baer || Kabeer, I have been ruined and destroyed by bad company, like the banana plant near the thorn bush. Ouh Jhoolai Ouh Cheereeai Saakath Sang N Haer ||88|| The thorn bush waves in the wind, and pierces the banana plant; see this, and do not associate with the faithless cynics. Kabeer Sangath Kareeai Saadhh Kee Anth Karai Nirabaahu || Kabeer, associate with the Holy people, who will take you to Nirvaanaa in the end. Saakath Sang N Keejeeai Jaa Thae Hoe Binaahu ||93|| Do not associate with the faithless cynics; they would bring you to ruin. Turn away, O my mind, turn away.Turn away from the faithless cynic.False is the love of the false one; break the ties, O my mind, and your ties shall be broken. Break your ties with the faithless cynic. ||1||Pause||One who enters a house filled with soot is blackened.Run far away from such people! One who meets the Guru escapes from the bondage of the three dispositions. ||1||I beg this blessing of You, O Merciful Lord, ocean of mercy - please, don't bring me face to face with the faithless cyincs.Make servant Nanak the slave of Your slave; let his head roll in the dust under the feet of the Holy. Raag Dev Gandhaaree Guru Arjan Dev As seen above, association with a sakat will lead to blackening of the soul. Therefore, Sikhs are called not to associate with such people. The practical method through which this is effected is given in the excerpt from the Sikh Rehit Maryada above. The sangat formally decides to dissociate from a sakat. Now, here's where "responsibility to the Sangat" comes: It's true that no one has to be responsible to the Sangat if he doesn't want to be. But if you disregard the summons from the Sangat to explain yourself, the Sangat can choose to not associate with you anymore (excommunication). If you want to avoid this, then you can repent if you are remorseful, and the Sangat has the power to forgive you.

  25. Bet of a silly argument really but... Ideally religiously speaking she should have married a Sikh if she hasn't already .....and if she really hasn't she should make efforts for her husband convert to Sikh who knows he maybe hindu by name but Sikh by heart. Theres plenty of fake Sikhs out there who are Sikh by name but non-sikh by heart and couldn't give a cr*p about Sikhi and Sikhs. Either way the fact that she is a strong pro-Sikh rights candidate even before she got elected as Member of parliament proves her love and pride for her Sikh faith. I'm sure her husband supports her on her campaigns for Sikhs....if he didn't she wouldn't have married him.

  26. I would believe it if I can see the consequences on the ground with my own eyes that confirm what is on the census. The problem is that there are inconsistencies in my opinion. If there was decrease in childbirths/facilities you would hear from maternity wards that there are less kids or even from midwives that they are not delivering as many children. School places would be empty because of the lack of kids being born. You would see a decrease in funding in childhood services if there are less children. There are so many things you would see as a result of below replacement fertility.

  27. So dice is rolled by RAW to infiltrate cdn, uk, america sikhs diaspora - direct or indirect inflitration in -back drop sikhs looking figure, they already predicted hows sikhs will react both predictable reaction- either way they win and advance their goals: Current issue among sikhs in west- missionaries and sri dsasam granth RAW in the backdrop watches influences directly or indirectly-, influences both ultra hot headed pro and ultra hot headed anti stance on dasam granth/missionaries- watch sikhs tearing each other part, if there is message of unity- it creates insecurity, fear, hyper, paranoia to keep the fire going. I've never seen hindus worked up so fast over debate over their various school of thoughts, over scriptures to the point they are fighting among themselves, there are six school of thoughts or more in hinduism all polar opposite of each other- vaishanivsm, shavaism, advait etc in their scriptures all they reject each other etc etc, yet in their circle no one is fighting yet politically they strong as iron- when it comes to HINDU NATIONALISM-Their sants- ravi shankar, sadhguru all supports hindu unity an front Example of ranjit singh dhandriwanle. Raw saw this guy prominence -see it as threat- influence his thoughts sant got played big time, created the divide in community, then flare hot headed sikhs to create issues and back drop assassinate attempt againt him- boom their goal is accomplished, huge divide in sikhs abroad. CIA ASSESSMENT ON SIKHS LIVING ABROAD: CSIS ASSESSMENT ON SIKHS IN CANADA Anyway there are many examples, i am more geared towards solutions - Worst thing sikh could react is with fear, paranoia calling each other agents anti panthic , fighting violently against each other. Do polar opposite see each other with non divisive eyes, dialogue, debate, constructive vichar - and leave it that. - RAW want cdn sikhs to relive trauma and divisiveness of 1980s again in current political climate get worked up in whichever way possible- they would love angry anti india slogans by sikhs in canada do pollar opposite hold the line of human rights bring other christianity minorities too, more holligans burning indian flags they will love this kinda stuff it will play good in media, more khalistan banners in nagar kirtan, divisiness, do pollar opposite - every day pay respect to our shaheeds as we normally do - keep on moving getting inspired by our role models in canada such as harjit singh sajjan- defense minister- apply for gov't jobs, learn french, apply police, rcmp, miltary jobs, media put past sikh seperatism in the back of head but dont put it on altar it proves nothing but just play more into raw hands. Andrew cohne- very well known journalist already pushing narrative- questioning sikh loyalty in canada by providing example of sikh body guards killing indira gandhi- casting doubt- they are religious zealouts, prove them wrong- apply apply apply for high gov't positions, security, poilice rcmp, military jobs. - Pay no attention to rhetoric emotional speeches get worked up, have sympathy but ignore ignore and ignore emotional violent rheotoric type of response - Have more interfaith sessions, push more yoga, world peace, get 3ho all white turbans push for mindfulness, peace etc etc in ottawa parliament-yoga international day- get 3ho to inflitrate on so called hindu concept which is not theirs anyway as its not their to begin with, get behind jewish genocide, explain sikh genocide via lenses of other civilizations, basically get behind with dastar anything to do with peace, mindfulness yoga movement - put hindu bhramins in canada out of business. Yogi amandeep singh udasi nirmala already doing amazing job. - tune down sikh internal issues activism protesting infront of gurdwara, commitee endorsement, be more involved wider canadian activism - don't isolate ourselves, engage in wider canadian soceity, Raw wants to isolate us from cdn diaspora politicsm cabinet positions, policy decision makers as its huge threat and cdn diaspora to some other, do polar opposite. Once we are able to infuse ourselves in media , politics like jews then we can influence not just say khalistan zindabad but further play proxy wars in terms of trade deals. Indians are already pissed trade deal with canada is only 1 billion dollar despite of huge indian immigrant people thats why they raised this ujjal dosanj tattu to isiolate us from all canadian political party, cdn cabinet positions, politics from canadian national fabric. Raw via media will keep pushing the narrative- get rid of these sikhs , our success trade deals - sky is limit already, more canadian jobs, it will very well play into conservative election promise RAW is trying to get sikhs out of canada fabric into over represented, defranchise thugs violent isiolate, do pollar opposite- infuse further ourselves and do seva into all Canadian veins, political parties, all self righteous left wing, liberal canadian movements- whether its pipeline, feminism, peta-vegan, environmentalist, first nation issues, jobs , polarized canadian debates.

  28. Firstly, when I go to Punjab the average Sikh has 2 kids or more. I don't know how they come to this 1.6 fertility rate figure. I dispute that figure. Secondly, even though the muslim fertility rate is coming down (and that is due to them educating their women), even educated Muslim families still have higher fertility rates than the rest of the population. Thirdly, I dispute the fact that Ravidassia are "oppressed " . If Dalits behaved like Ravidassia they would open their own temples and not even bother with the cash and prizes they receive from christian missionaries. If anything Ravidassia are empowered. Nobody has stopped a Ravidassia going to a Gurdwara and do stuff that a normal sangat member does. Where their issue is with the power grab issues that a tiny minority within their community want. Like all politics.

  32. Yes, that's all fine in theory, but maybe it will be more difficult in practice. But if the article above as suggests Guruji also encouraged it, then Gurdwaras should also too, but then there's the costs of making adjustments, which I can't see committees doing.

  33. That's what I was thinking penji, as if the classes are held in Darbar Sahib then there will be a problem regarding sitting etc. But it would be nice to see them integrate with normal able bodied sangat too, so maybe have the classes together. I was thinking there's lots of people with health conditions sitting at home probably watching tv and I think it's a good idea if they are also encouraged to mix with normal sangat and encourage them to attend Kirtan and musical instrument classes, as part of the sangat. Why shouldn't Gurdwaras encourage it, where it is for normal bodied sangat? This will also help them connect to Sikhi, and learn Gurbani. Whether you like it or not, they are also part of the sangat. Obviously, disabled people would only do what they can manage within their limits, but I feel they should be encouraged to also participate where possible.

  34. Singh, I don't understand why you're singling out politicians for special treatment. The same rules apply to anyone claiming to be a Sikh. Hypothetically speaking and yes this an extreme example; if in the loosest sense of the word a "Sikh" is raising their voice the loudest for Khalistan, rehai for imprisoned Singh's, justice for genocide, Punjab rights as per Anandpur resolution etc, but is clandestinely visiting brothel's, doing drugs or other illegitimate base activities going against grain of Sikh teachings, would you be happy to be represented by them? I certainly wouldn't. Please elaborate what was his stance on women, with examples.
