  1. I was invited to a Sukhmani Sahib paat at the Gurdwara a couple of years back for the first time in ages, and I was blown away by the total shambles of the sangat assembled. Full-blown conversations on both sides; people playing with phones and watching football highlights; kids running around like it was daycare, etc. I was disgusted. I got up to tell the stage secretary to make a polite announcement to inform the sangat to keep it down and have some respect, which he did, but that lasted for barely 5 minutes. Pathetic. This was me at the end: ??

  4. I'm interested to know why they do havan too? People have been using fire in worship for 1000s of years, Native Americans, Zoroastrians, Pagans, Vedic traditions. Wouldn't be surprised if the cave people, who used to light fires with stones, whatever their beliefs were probably used fire too. As the only Singh in my family i get parents, uncles/aunts, cousins, neighbors asking me these of questions all the time! how the hell am i supposed to know! it's as if i all a sudden became an encyclopedia on Sikhi and have the answers for everything. A lady family friend came around once and asked me why people use instruments in Nagar kirtans? "i don't know" why do Sikhs in India do prabhat pheri? "i don't know" one i get asked often is why nihungs cut goats heads off "i don't know". My cousin came around yesterday and asked me "oh why did that nihung cut the police mans hand off" "i don't know" ! The worst is when some Singh does something stupid and theres a video being passed around, they all send me the video or ask me about it as if i have an answer or explanation for the stupidity, its as if your being held responsible for it! Even the ancient North Indian festival of Lohri has a fire in the center of it. I read how in the Vedic period they used to do fire sacrifices with horses! how barbaric is that!

  7. ? I reckon a body slam would of finished me off. She used to slam me with her fists as well, as if I was a table. I was mean to her though lol You know big girls have a lot of strength! I think we really undermine their brute strength! They are like angry bulls when triggered, They could easily knock your average guy out! What they struggle with is getting a firm grip because their bodies cant manoeuvre normally, but once they have that firm grip then mans dead!

  8. Good effort for the beginners but full caution. - Gurmukhi and Punjabi is important - Protect our scripture language at all cost - Guru sahib would have never started a new language for no reason

  9. Muslim Neighbour. As a Muslim how do you justify turning the most sacred shrine of the Orthodox Christians into a Masjid? If that is justifiable for you then why object to Jews reconquering Jerusalem and the the Masjid Al Aqsa from the Muslims? We all know it is just a matter of time before they rebuild their Temple there. When and if Muslims object the Jews will probably just cite how Muslims justify turning Hagia Sophia into a mosque so they did same

  10. Sadly my Baba ji passed away before I could ask him (about 11 years ago). Sant Ji visited my Baba ji twice in East London, the last time being not long before they passed on themselves. There was a rift in family that prevented me from finding things out, but if I find out any more details or locate the photos taken at that time, I'll share them.

  11. This was a Church built by the Byzantines and then muslims made it into a mosque. It even has massive murals of Jesus in it, probably one of the most beautiful buildings ever. Christians there must feel voiceless and sad. oh well. The Christians had the dome way before the Muslims had it on their buildings, though many Muslims like to think they invented it.

  13. I was told by a prominent Gursikh to do at least one Chaupai Sahib the Paat, while sitting on the bed, before going to sleep. He also said, to have a glass of water to hand. Up on completion of the Paat, then drink the water... Waheguru...

  14. How, where and when did your baba Ji meet Sant Ji? Was he young himself when he first met him? It would be so nice to know his experiences with Sant Ji.

  15. Sant Ji was knower of everyone’s hearts and thoughts. He knew you were scared of speaking to your father about this, that’s why he made your father act the way he did, with his kirpa. It’s was a blessing really when you think about it.

  16. I received this video link recently thought why not share it. It’s a great channel to watch, full of guidance for every Sikh around the world. It’s a must for Sikh women to watch and learn from this video, for the way they dress these days is simply appalling. I am fully aware that it’s not really related to the topic in discussion at the moment so please don’t let this offend you.

  17. But the Shastars contained in the Khanda symbol are all Puratan Sikh Shastars i.e. miri piri kirpans on the sides, khanda in the middle and a chakr.

  18. As far as Havan in gurmukh sense it has been explained to me as the burning of panj vikars in agg of Naam. Also the pangti quoted in my understanding is the sewa lakh paat done in nimrata state will guarantee victory

  20. Vaheguru ji ka Khalsa Vaheguru ji ki Fateh ji I'm not sure if you already read these Shabads but before the 4 Rakhiya de Shabad - starting Sorath Mahalla 5 - many Gursikhs like to read these 2 Shabads.

  21. Yes there are a lot of females now who wear really backless outfits and I literally cannot believe that many brides actually have their midriff on show now- a short top with a lehnga skirt. It baffles me how no one like their mother advises them it’s inappropriate for the Gurdwara. Something needs to be done to teach these people.

  22. I never asked my Nana or Nani if they had a Anand Karaj or some other ceremony, its too late now. They got married around 1950/51 , what Nani told us was how from her peke pind to my Nanas house she came sat on a bullock cart ? That's how they came those days lol. The Bharat stayed at my Nanis parents house for 3 weeks! that's crazy! My Nana said while the bharat was still there, the girls from my Nanis pind would joke around and steel his shoes and embarrass him front of everyone by saying silly things LOL he said boys in those days were really down to earth and didn't get offended or angry quickly like today. I don't like going to weddings, haven't been for years, last time i went the bride and groom kissed each other front of everyone which was awkward because i was sitting next to me sister. My parents are always like you have to go to weddings otherwise people are going to start saying why doesn't the son ever come, which i don't care lol I'm not going to some crappy wedding. The last one my family went to, my mum came back saying how as the bride was walking in she had little children walking in front of her with flower baskets littering petals onto the floor! the Granthi then did a announcement and said that this is not Gurmat and can the parents of the children pick the litter/petals! my mum said all the females got angry when the Granthi Singh said that and started muttering stuff. Once the kids mothers picked the litter then the Granthi continued with the ceremony The wedding my family went to before that one by mum was saying how the females were really inappropriately dressed and their heads weren't covered properly, chunnis were just hanging off their buns/hair, their heads were uncovered, and the Granthi Singh actually stopped just to tell the women to cover their heads and come dressed appropriately when at the Gurdwara. And then my parents wonder why i don't go to weddings.

  25. The Paki kids would openly insult the Hindu kids, but i'm not sure why but they bit their tongue a lot more when it came to the Sikh kids! even though Sikh kids were like a tiny minority in my school. the poor hindu kids got a lot from the pakis though. Yeah i remember during one cricket match the Paki boys marched through the playground shouting slogans like "India is a b@stard" throwing their hands in the air. You know how they do elections in Pakistan it was like that. Cricket matches were crazy, remember the world cup where India won against srilanka? where it was India vs Pakistan in the semi finals, think it was 2011, during the semi final it was like a huge event in our school! many of the teachers even cancelled the lessons and put the match on their laptops! India won anyway lol! i didn't know much about Sikhi back then and i came wearing a orange Nike t-shirt with a backpack with a massive khanda on it ? should of seen the faces of the Pakis when they saw that. On that very day, I also remember very well a huge big fat Punjabi girl pinning me against the wall and scratching the hell out me because i called her FAT ? i was going out with her cousin lol! that girl was enormous! my neck had scratch marks and blood! never call a fat girl fat! once you're in her clutches, wedged between the wall and her belly its quite a task freeing your skinny self from it!!

  26. Yes, sucham is very important. The thingummies you mention above are supposed to observe sucham when cooking langar. It is similar to what one does in their own kitchen when cooking food for their families, whether one is an amarittary or not. When we recite our Pat from the Gutka sahib Ji, we observe sucham. The same principle applies when we cook our food. We must serve and eat it in suchet utensils. Our hands must be suchet. Ideally, while we are dishing out food, there must be one member of the family reciting Patt from memory. If this is not possible then we can play a CD reciting the Bani for total sucham. It is very important to listen to Bani when we are eating too.
