  1. Cannabis comes in 2 forms: hemp and marijuana Both these forms r a gift of God. Shaheedi degh is the best medicine in the world.

  2. Is it a spiritual aid, though, or a hallucinogenic aid that induces a false religious exaltation? It's not a secret that non-Sikh westerners have used various substances to induce rapturous experiences that they claim are glimpses of the Divine. My point: is it the Sikhi that causes the experience or the drugs?

  4. http://deghtegh.blogspot.com/?m=1 Cannabis Facilitates a Deeper Connection Between Parents and Children By enhancing our patience, and sense of play and wonder, cannabis can enable parents to connect more closely with their children. Dr. Marian Fry, in a survey of California clinicians who provide cannabis approvals, reported that cannabis-using parents saw an “enhanced flexibility and an ability to identify the child’s needs as those of a separate and unique individual. . . . Patients say cannabis makes them less self-centered and egocentric…” . Dr. Fry’s comments are echoed in a recent article by a cannabis using mother on Babble.com, a web site for mothers. The article generated 72 comments—mostly from other moms, and overwhelmingly favorable.

  5. http://deghtegh.blogspot.com/?m=1 Cannabis Facilitates Compromise By calming emotion, promoting self-reflection, and enhancing gentleness, cannabis promotes forgiveness and compromise, and thereby can aid powerfully in the resolution of a wide array of disputes, from lovers quarrels to business matters to political disagreements. Science may not yet have begun to study this one, but the ability of cannabis to promote forgiveness is a regular topic at on-line cannabis related discussion forums.Human health and wellness are not mechanical matters. We are not machines, we are not purely physical beings. We have souls, and those souls must be nurtured. Raising our children, resolving our disputes, writing our poems and singing our songs: these things too are a part of wellness.

  9. How old are you ? I used to think the same until my last two visits to India. If anything, keeping up appearances is much more important in India than the West. You will always be an outsider. But you can make it work if you really want to, probably What would be your livelihood? As you will be aware, farmers have it very difficult in India.

  11. A little random, but I'll post it anyway People in older days seemed to be fitter and healthier ; I mean, they generally walked more, and ate less rubbish. They were forced to be more physically healthy by way of life. They likely had better mental health, as they would not have been using technology like phone/PC/TV/audio/whatsapp to fill their minds with rubbish like most of us do, and which has driven materialism to extreme levels They would have had better diet with fresher food, less ready-made foods and less junk snacks and drinks. They would have eaten food in peace with family, not whilst watching TV Apparently (for those who know about acupressure and ayurveda) walking bare-foot is also good for the nervous system and brain; people walk less bare foot nowadays. Squatting to open bowels is known to reduce incidence of gastrointestinal cancer. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/305362118_Etiology_of_Diverticulosis Some of these things are common sense, some of these things we do not /find it difficult to get away from as they make our lives a lot easier What of these above factors do you actively try to control in your life? Do they discourage us from doing a lot of these things because they have vested interests? Anyone know about any race/tribe of people who follow these older ways as much as possible ? Is meat-eating in history, a myth? Has it been exaggerated by those in the meat industry to brainwash people that eating meat is normal? Were most people in the past vegetarian by choice (I know meat is supposedly food of wealthy and hunters)

  12. My cynicism and intimate knowledge of the Punjabi demeanour doesn't allow me to embrace this particular issue with as much positivity as others. I've seen where this type of narcotically-encouraged religiosity leads, and it's actually not as noble or as high-minded as it's being described here. Each to their own. If it works for someone, then fair enough.

  13. Like if somebody takes to rock climbing for health for example. And they start doing that, and they find as they begin that the Sukha helps them focus and enjoy climbing rocks a lot and relax and steal their mind back from maya and other poisons. And they keep climbing the rock, they're going to get fit. Another person may never have been without rock climbing, or lead a different life and maybe they never liked Sukha while climbing. And they too are phenominally fit. And if you go rock climbing anywhere there is going to be those that use Sukha and those that don't and they all climb together and get fit, no worries. And if rock climbers can conquer mountains together and respect each other it really shouldn't be hard for Gursikhs to do the same on both sides or all sides. Ultimately it's about "rock climbing" together and encouraging everyone to "climb rocks"

  14. I see Sukha doing the exact opposite. Offering a lifeline to addicts getting out of addiction. You can take it or leave it. If you don't like just don't use it. The science is undeniable and more importantly it's place within Gursikhi is undeniable. The reefer madness comes from the war on drugs, both of them, and the destructive nature of wasp imperialism. If those people within and related to the Paanth, if choosing to use anything, had chosen Sukha instead of alcohol, tobacco, opium, and every other drug known to man all these years, the greater Sikh family would have been saved imeasurable yelling, fighting, stealing, beating, broken family type illness that comes with those destructive toxic drugs. Sukha is a safety net. It's a medicine. It's non toxic. It's non addictive. Anyone truly concerned with drug addiction and drugs would never or hardly mention Sukh. They'd be too busy actively fighting the menace of alcohol, inhalents, pharmaceuticals, opiods, cocaine, crack, pcp, meth, designer drugs, bath salts, alcohol again, then alcohol.. The only way Sukha can even function as a gateway drug is when society lies to everybody and says Sukha is at all like these other drugs. Then the young person tries it and knows they were absolutely lied to. And if society lied about Sukha then did they lie about the other stuff? Let's find out. Uh oh, instantly addicted <banned word filter activated>. Alcohol and ignorance are the gateway drugs. Sukha however should never be confused with Naam. It is no substitute for Naam. It is not a precursor for Naam. It cannot take the place of Naam. Let there be no confusion between Naam and Sukha. Let there be no confusion between Sukha and the maker of all Sukha Vaheguru Akal Purakh. Let's however be truthful about Sukha. And mind our own Rehit and nobody elses. There is absolutely a reason it is situated as it is within Sikhi. If it's not for you, it's not for you.

  16. This is a very confusing topic: http://sttm.co/s/2764/30880 ਕਬੀਰ ਭਾਂਗ ਮਾਛੁਲੀ ਸੁਰਾ ਪਾਨਿ ਜੋ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਖਾਂਹਿ ॥ Kabeer, those mortals who consume marijuana, fish and wine ਤੀਰਥ ਬਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਕੀਏ ਤੇ ਸਭੈ ਰਸਾਤਲਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥੨੩੩॥ - no matter what pilgrimages, fasts and rituals they follow, they will all go to hell. ||233|| Here's an excerpt from Guru Nanak Chamatkar that (to me) addressed the use of intoxicants for spiritual purposes. I once read a book (forgot which one) that said that bhang helps with keeping away hunger which is why it may have been used in war, along with treating injuries. Then over time it became common to use in small amounts and by Britisher times, it was used in excess. Personally I wouldn't want to use bhang to help my Simran. http://sttm.co/s/2764/30880 ਤਿਲੰਗ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੨ Tilang, First Mehla, Second House: ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ One Universal Creator God. 21. https://www.betterhelp.com/advice/parenting/what-is-a-toxic-mother-and-how-does-she-affect-relationships/ Link is about abusive relationship you may or may had been in but never knew? There is direct abuse; negligence, rape, hitting kids. Then there is indirect abuse; constant criticism, over involvement, frowning on kids' decisions, constant emotional blackmail until kids' give in to parent's choices, NEVER appreciative of your own kids, constantly going on about other kids and how they are successful, making your kids feel unworthy, telling them "You can't do/ cope." Me and my sister fall into the latter. And MY GOODNESS! How has my sis ended up!? 34, been on super healthy diet since nearly 17 years, hasn't eaten outside food since, no fizzy drinks just water n milk, no oily fried food, no chocolate, candies - basically home cooked vegetables and daal (that too just heated up) with sometimes rice, sometimes Baajri (millet flour), nuts n seeds. Her attitude in general is "I am right, do it my way" and she's a force nobody argues with. She has negative thoughts rather than positive. Her spending idea is "save every single penny, you never know" so absolutely zero make up (ok, fair enough) but then she'll wear same clothes for years n years without getting bored. 5 yrs ago she wore shoes with hole at the bottom! My mother had to buy her new ones outta pitty. Tell me, who's gonna marry a broken n wrecked girl like that?? NOBODY! Mum being mum (poisonous, venomous n toxic) used to force her to get married now she's given up but talks about it. Part of poisonous, venomous, toxic relationship is to ensure you make your kids do what they not want or cannot do. Only on two occasions (how fortunate only two) she wanted me to atleast trim my beard to look neat. With kirpa I never gave in to that. My sister's idea of passing the time; study books on healthy eating, cycle, study Grade 4 or 5 books to keep the brain sharp, maths all in spare time. Anything else is "Waste of her time." Sangat Jio, unless YOU want your kids to be on drugs, not follow society, be unhappy, have negative thoughts to EVERY situation... don't chod it up for them and yourselves.

  22. Was watching some of his videos, skimmed through this one. Missionary Sikhs always deny judgment after death, reincarnation, heaven and hell. This guy also denies judgment after death, reincarnation, hell etc missionary Sikhs often call all of this a "metaphor" They scrap everything, divine interventions, divinity, after life etc They just get rid of everything. Do these people genuinely believe what they preach? Or are there people using them to alter Sikhi ? A lot of them seem to spend many years abroad in the west. Its like they view Sikhi from a very Western, atheist perspective. There's a lot of reformist Christian priests and reformist Jewish rabbis who deny an after life, missionary Sikhs seem to be following that. watch @21:00

  25. I sometimes wonder why God does that? Why make a soul born into a "Sikh" family only to be tortured by their own mother. A family where there is no dharam. How is that fair? What chance does a person stand in life when that is how it began ? What was the point of her life? I don't get it.

  26. lol Everyone knows who these khusray are and what they do. The issue is their version of Sikhi and how they represent it. They took a survey and 75% of their members support interfaith marriage, therefore City Sikhs reached the conclusion that interfaith anand karaj should be allowed. Why am I not surprised that an overwhelming number of their members support interfaith anand karaj ? https://www.citysikhs.com/2015/08/anand-karaj-sikh-wedding-ceremony-statement-from-city-sikhs/ They also advertise Sikh LGBT events on their website. Not sure if they have taken another survey to see if their members support LGBT Anand Karaj, if they have then it wouldn't surprise me if 75% of their members support khusray having Anand Karaj. https://www.citysikhs.com/event/lgbt-sikhs/ Nobody cares who they are or what they do, apart from fanboys who wish to be in the same rank as them. it's the Sikhi they are pushing which everyone has a problem with. Unless you're a city Sikh yourself, or look like one (which you probably do) then I don't see why anyone would support these people.

  28. In our community when the kids mess up we always focus on the messed up kids but don't look at why the kids have messed up. We haven't reached the point as a community where we link bad parenting to rebellious kids. I don't think we actually have reached the point where we think parents can be faulty at all. Even if we blame the parents its often "oh they must have spoiled their kids" Recognising bad parenting does not exist in our community.

  29. Alcohol. But she told me she did heroin when she was younger. She stopped heroin and then started drinking. Few times she rang us she was completely under the influence of alcohol, muddled up sentence, slurred words. I think since then she's possibly taking other stuff. I emailed Sikh helpline a few years back. But I doubt she spoke to them. She used to say that her mum sometimes used to buy alcohol and put it in front of her on purpose.

  30. You can go off grid wherever you are,no need to migrate anywhere.Premi5 is right, you will be an outsider in India. This requirement would be tough to find anywhere, unless you go settle in some really spiritual Babas Dera or something and dedicate yourself to Bhagti. But then there is the serious risk too of you ending up with the wrong Baba for eg Gurmeet ram raheem, and end up being turned into a eunuch. So tread carefully.

  32. I personally can't relate to that, but I have seen it in my family/relatives. The results are devastating. It's happening with my one of my cousin sisters atm she spends months living around her friends house to avoid her mother. But now she's going get a flat for herself. In fact she's even considering moving across the Atlantic to avoid her mother. Her mother says things like that she never wanted her and that she wanted a son instead, and that she was a mistake etc her mother says things like that she hopes her daughter never settles and ends up in a bad marriage. One of the saddest cases in my family is another cousin sister of mine who has been disowned by the family. I actually was very close to her, but I'm not allowed to talk to her anymore. Her mother was very abusive towards her. My cousin was a lot older than me, like 14 years, so I never saw her childhood but my mum has told me about it. Her mother actually used to physically torture her. When she was a kid her mother hit her head with her high heel shoe. She ended up with a hole in her head, that's the kind of stuff her mother used to do to her. My cousin then ended up hanging around with wrong people and picked up wrong habits which eventually started destroying her. But I never judged her. She was really honest with me and trusted me. As I got older and started seeing how toxic their relationship was, it was terrible! Her mother used to call her things like h*ramdi etc Her family eventually disowned her. It's been like 5 years now. In the past I've felt like finding out where she is and meeting up with her. But if my family find out I would be in a lot of trouble. Plus unfortunately her habits have got worse. She has our phone number and sometimes rings us, she asks for me but my mother cuts the phone. I've known both these abusive mothers since I was kid, and there definitely is something very wrong with them. I can't figure out what it is, or where it went wrong. They lack sympathy, lack in faith. Abusive mothers are far more destructive than abusive fathers. We as a community, culturally, glorify the relationship between mothers and kids, but that is not the case for many.

  41. The Bhangis were Dhillon Sardars from the Amritsar region. The Bhangi misal was the most powerful and wealthiest Misal reaching its peak under Sardar Hari Singh Dhillon who ruled over most of central Punjab including the capital Lahore. Their downfall was the alcohol and bhang addictions which resulted in early deaths among the leaders after Hari Singh, which gave Maharaja Ranjit Singh a opportunity to take over Lahore and other Bhangi territory. Had they been more "focused" perhaps they would of not lost their territory to the Sukerchakias. A really fascinating period and misal in our history which is pretty much forgotten. https://archive.org/details/RiseGrowthAndFallOfTheBhangiMisal/mode/2up

  42. Bhangis issued coins as well the famous ZamZama gun was captured by the Bhangis during battle with the Afghans and the gun came to be knows as the Bhangiyan da Taup. The gun was captured by Ranjit Singh after he defeated the Bhangis and i think it was later captured by the British after they defeated the Sikhs and is currently in Lahore. Bhangis also built a fort outside Amritsar and was known as Bhangiyan da Qila. After Ranjit captured Amritsar from the Bhangis he further fortified the fort and named it Qila Gobindgarh.

  43. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh, I'm interested in learning about the origins of the Khanda, which is today the symbol of the Sikh Panth. There is no mention of it in any puraatan accounts, nor any representation of it in Sikh art before the mid-20th century. Nor was it depicted on the Nishaan Sahib - the only symbols carried on the flag of the Sikh Nation were three shastar - a dhal (shield), a katar (punch dagger) and a tulwar sword. This is evident from old Sikh paintings, as well as the gold engravings at Sri Darbar Sahib dating back to the time of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Who created the Khanda, and when? How did it come to be so ubiquitous?

  44. The earliest image I have seen of it was in a congratulatory letter from some British army official to some apna who had evidently been helping them recruit for WW1. If I recall rightly, the image was dated 1915ish. If it did come from around about this period, it probably became firmly established by being used by the Singh Sabha lehar, who dominated the Sikh discourse during the colonial period. They had a very strong presence with periodicals, tracts, books etc. So most literate (and illiterate) people would have been exposed to the symbol in this way. It then doesn't take much for people who've grown up with the symbol to start incorporating it into artwork, especially calendar art, which would have been ubiquitous in most if not every Sikh home (for free too).

  45. I guess if it is OK for recently arrived Punjabis to settle down with East European women and have Sikh kids then there is nothing wrong in settling down with a Chinese woman. The Chinese are ultimately a dharmic people (if we take the current political situation out of the question) and have always been interested in what happens west of their border.
