  1. I think we should send our children for year to be educated in Punjab, so they understand Sikhi culture, grow a bond with their homeland, learn to read/write Gurmukhi. I have noticed a few of these parchar on YouTube spent a lot of years back home. Jagraj Singh from basics of Sikhi and Satpal Singh both are two that come to mind. I know Muslims used to do this back in the day, dont know about now. Seen a few posts about the youth of today, and this popped in my head.

  2. Why dont sikhs ever unite and vote for people who stand for sikh rights but go give vote to Congress, aap and other nonsense? Muslims unite and vote for Congress as they know Congress will do things in their favor and not BJP or aap. So why do sikhs not vote for simranjeet Singh mann or people like him who stand for sikhs? Even jaswant singh khalra's wife didnt get elected when she stood for sikhs. I think our people deserve all this mess. We do not have an iota of ingroup loyalty nor do we have any vision for our future.

  12. Indian Muslim leaders are actually quite envious of our success in having a full-fledged state in India. They have massive numbers (over 200 million) and the highest growth at 24 %/decade, yet they still can’t be more than vote banks with little to show for. They have Muslim Parties like Owaisi's, but limited success. We Sikhs are very strong spirited and require an equally strong leader to gain full loyalty, otherwise we remain fractured. Also, Punjab is not an overwhelming majority for us, so there has to be a more moderate approach if we want to win. There is also the issue of strategic voting in Punjab. Both Sikhs and Hindus practice it for different reasons. Dharmic Sikhs [used to] vote Akali to prevent Congress from winning. Hindus vote Congress to prevent Akalis, except in places where Hindus are a large majority like Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Akalis used to vacate for BJP. The smaller fringe parties, like the Panthic ones, lose out as they don’t have the winnable factor, or any kind of robust leadership. New leadership needs to be nurtured and allowed to come to the forefront (like Congress does to an extent) instead of outdated leaders holding on till the end. For the Panthic parties, they need to have young, educated, capable people to lead. Who have a vision for prosperity, and not just pounding away at the old issues ad nauseum.

  13. We need ourselves to be at the forefront of confronting and addressing any issue in this department. Domestic and sexual abuse of silenced Sikh women revealed Not only because such behaviour is vile and repugnant from a Sikhi perspective, but also because of exactly what we are seeing here - outsiders trying to exploit it to attack the panth and also deflect from their own filth. When we deal with our own matters in a serious manner, it takes the steam out of these outsiders attempts to malign. No one (with any right mind) would want their daughters, sisters, cousin sisters etc. abused.

  16. Sadly many of our fuddu sant babas glorify krishan. Many of our parcharaks too glorify krishan because they hv some nirmala connection. No doubt krishan was a vishnu avtar and was given many powers by God but he was unable to completely kill his Haume. He indulged in sex and deceit. He also called himself God. In the end, he drowned in the world ocean.

  19. In krishan avtar of Dasam Granth Sahib, there comes Birha Natak. There is an old Dasam Granth Sarup at Patna Sahib which is believed to be written by baba Deep Singh ji. In this bir, at the starting of Birha Natak comes a baani called bhagwati ustat(also called bhagwati astotar). It's different from bhagauti astotar which comes at the starting of Judh parbandh section of krishan avtar of Dasam Granth Sahib. It's also present in Dasam Granth Sarup of Bhai Daya Singh and Dasam Granth Sarup of Bhai Sukha Singh. Giani Gurwinder Singh nangli has got this baani published in a beautiful Gutka Sahib and has also given information about this baani in his Gutka Sahib. Gutka Sahib can be bought at https://csjs.com/shop/panth-khalsa-nitnem-gutka-sahib-tarna-dal/

  20. There are many Dasam birs with 32 swaiye. Some hv 33 swaiye and very few(I think just 2) hv 34 swaiye. But both 33rd and 34th swaiyaas are Gurbani.

  21. No these extra banis are not just in 1 bir. They are in more than 1 bir but yes they are in fewer birs. Thing with Dasam Granth is that first Bhai Mani Singh around 1713 AD collected as much Dasam Bani as possible and prepared a bir. Around 10 years later baba deep Singh ji did the same and was able to collect extra banis and prepared a much larger bir which is at present in Patna Sahib. Bhagauti astotar and uggardanti are also in fewer birs but both are AMAZING GURBANI.

  22. BHAI GURDAS JI SAID SO ... (By Prahlad Singh Ji, Canada) About Bhai Gurdas Ji: Bhai Gurdas Ji is recognized not only as first great Sikh scholar and interpretter of Gurubani of Guru Granth Sahib ji, but he was also a brahamgiani. He was honoured by physical and spiritual closeness of four embodiments of Guru Nanak (From Guru Amardas Ji to Guru Hargobind Singh Ji). He remained in personal service ("Hazoori Sewa") of GuruJi,s for good length of time. He also used to do "Katha" (interpretations) of Gurubani for sangat in the very presence of Guru Ji, in his darbar. He was a great scholar not only of Gurmukhi, but also of Hindi, Sanskrit and Brij languages. > He had the previledge of compiling very first "swaroop" of Guru Granth Sahib Ji under direct supervision and editorial guidance of Guru Arjun Dev Ji both at physical and spiritual levels. His own writtings are as "Vaars" in punjabi and "Kabit's" and "Swaiya,s" in Brij language. How much he understood the Sikh religion and Guruji's -- is evident from the fact that GURU ARJUN DEV JI SAID IF GURUBANI IN GRANTH SAHIB JI IS LOCK, BHAI GURDAS JI'S WRITTINGS ARE KEY TO IT. Thus Guru ji himself directed sikhs to follow Bhai Gurdas ji's bani to understand Guru Granth Sahib ji in its true sense. So since the time of Guruji,s physical embodiments, the Bani of Bhai Sahib Ji is being used by sikh scholars and saints to understand some of very high spiritual and critical issues pertaining to progress on Guru's path. In this article Bhai Gurdas Ji's view on killing animals and eating their meat are given for the benefit of readers. In one of his writtings, Bhai Gurdas j i wanted to compare the lowness of wickedness and immoral conduct of thankless person ("Akritghan"), and he searched for most low and hateful worldly thing for its use in comparision for his example. He thought about all the bad things in this world to choose the worst. He finally selected the "meat"! And to further intensify his expression he described it as of dog's meat and being cooked in alcohol (drink). This he found most suitable to compare wickedness and immoralness of thankless person. He says: > "Mad wich ridha paye ke kute da maas, Nadari pave akritghan, hoi jai vinaas" It is critical to understand that meat of dog cooked in alcohol is already rejectable and useless thing in bhai Sabib's view, but it still gets further deteriorated if it is seen by a thankless person. Such is the result of company of thankless person. And who is thankless? -- one who gets the gift of human body from God and then forgets him !! ... ..betrays his Guruji just for little easy life and some better worldly opportunities !!! --that is what Gurubani says. While describing the fate of those who kill the poor creatures of God and eat them, Bhai Sahib uses instance of the goat who is caught by a lion and is moments away from being ripped into pieces and eaten. In goats words Bhai Sahib Ji explains: > "Sheeh pajooti Bakkari, maradi hoie harh harh hassi, Ak Dhatura khadian kuh kuh khal ukhal vinassi, Maas Khan gal wad ke, haal tinada kaun hovassi. (Vaar 25-7) Means the goat says, "I was eating Ak and Dhatura plants (weed plants found in India) for whole of my life, to which no body else liked to eat. And even then I am being brutally killed and my skin being ripped, WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THOSE WHO CUT MY THROAT AND EAT MY MEAT ?????? At some other place, Bhai Sabib talks about goat being cut by butcher to be eaten : > "kuhe Kassai Bakkari, lai loon seekh mass proyia" Hass hass bole kuhidi, khade ak haal eh hoyia, Maas khan gal churi de, haal tinad a kaun aloyia" (Vaar 37-21) Means: Goat is being killed, cut into pieces and salt being spread on the pieces. While being killed goat says this all happened to me while I was just eating Ak plant (weed found in India's desert fields). In last line goat puts a question, WHAT WILL BE FATE OF THOSE IN COURT OF LORD WHO CUT MY THROAT WITH KNIFE AND EAT MY MEAT ?????? Bhai Gurdas Ji in Vaar 31 gives strong warning against eating meat. He said, due to some good doings in previous births, Pootna (a witch who tried to poison Krishna Ji) was forgiven. But don't take it as that act of poisoning others is acceptable. And due to some pious acts in previous births and grace of Lord, Sadhana the butcher was forgiven (there is mention about him in Gurubani too, later on he became bhagat). But it should not be interpretted as, that killing animals and eating their meat (word "Bhanga" here) is acceptable. Please read the following lines of Bhai Sahib Ji: > "Jekar udhari pootna, Wihu pialan kam na changa, Je Kassai udharia, jeean ghai na khaiye Bhanga" (Vaar 31-5) (I wish everyone could read this as in Gurmukhi) So dear sikh brotheren, listen carefully to this warning of Bhai Gurdas ji, whose bani has been asked to be followed by our Guru ji as "key to Guru Granth Sahib Ji". Have a fear of account being taken in the court of Akal Purakh ("Dargah"). Remeber Guru Nanak Ji has clearly warned us: "Guru Pir Hama Ta Bhare, ja Murdar Na Khai" page 141 in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. Means Guru or Peer only helps in the court of Akal Purakh if some one abstains from "Murdaar" means meat. Murdaar word has come from Murda which means dead one. Murdaar means flesh of dead ie meat. With sincere regards and apologies for any hurt feelings of anyone. P.Singh http://www.panthkhalsa.org/gurmat/gurmat.html

  23. I believe some of these not included banis are gurbani but many are in just 1 bir that isn't really much evidence for it being gurbani. Like Bhai Banno bir has extra bani. Is it gurbani? No because it is in only one bir.

  24. Whatever the real percentage of sociopaths and psychopaths, etc there are, we aren't going to be immune to. All we can do is be more sophisticated about power, money, representation, and keeping a really good eye on people. But wherever that percentage lies, that's a lot of potential traitors. You have a Sangat of 100. What 3 to 10? More than enough in any group. And it's usually one of these that takes to politics, not always. Fine line between crab mentality, and holding our representatives accountable or to a standard.

I was also told by hazuri Singhs in nanded that they are called bhayyaas due to their dark complexon when they visit Delhi/punjab.

I'm surprised anyone is surprised at this? Surely it must be the same in the midlands and up north??? That being said, I have noticed the monopoly of Off Licenses apnay had a few decades ago is no more, and most people seem to have grown old and sold their offys as their kids don't want to run them anymore. I think people do this type of business because it is easy money (and lucrative too) and isn't physically intensive like other work apnay commonly did in the UK?

  39. It wasn't bollywood that promoted this stereotype. Our own lot were full on complicit with it. That's where you keep showing some mental shyte. You're (like me) old enough to remember the 80s/90s. Hordes of our lot defined themselves by that balle balle peasant shyte. Look at Candian juts, they still do! Plus the stereotype of angreezis of Sikhs was the opposite to what you are saying. Loyal, docile, teetotal fudhus, who'd take 'amrit' based around giving loyalty to some morbidly obese english maharani. Panjabi blokes swear big time. That's fact. It's not like I made this rule up myself. But please don't insult my intelligence and try and deny my (and many others) experience of decades of mixing/working with my own people. I can deal with reality. Try it yourself.

  42. I've helped raised a number of boys in my family, including some with absent fathers, So I have multiple experiences, and not all of them ended like a fairytale. Plus I worked with teenagers as a teacher for a bit so I feel I have some valid experiences in this domain. You CAN NOT predict how a kid is going to turn out. Sometimes the ones that acted rotten and belligerent when growing up turn out half decent when older, and the ones who you'd never ever perceive a certain way (because they were so sweet, honest and caring when growing up) can grow up to be completely self-centred, lying a-holes who wouldn't give you the time of day! And another thing, believe you me, kids do not respond to strictness in uniform ways. Whereas one might buckle and comply as a result of strictness - another could become belligerent and defiant as f**k as a reaction. So don't delude yourself and act like you could've controlled everything. All I will say is that if the child is naturally spirited and free willed (as it seems), overbearing constant criticism is the WORST thing a parent could do, and will only make them even more resentful and defiant. Be warned.

  45. Thanks to Manglacharan website, we now have the 34th swaiyaa with english translation. Plz visit https://www.manglacharan.com/home/the-lost-34th-savaiya According to oral tradition, Guru Gobind Singh wrote one extra Svaiya that concludes the famous 33 Savaiya composition within the Dasam Guru Granth. This extra passage is not in the current printed version of the Dasam Guru Granth, but can be seen in a few old saroops of Dasam Guru Granth, noted by both Giani Sher Singh and through the research of Udasi Harnam Das. The tradition holds that Guru Gobind Singh wrote this concluding svaiya upon reaching Nandar in the later years of their life, and is meant to expound upon the highest state of enlightenment. The one who's forehead has received the touch of the Guru's hand, knows the inner mysteries of all existence. ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਭਯੋ ਹੈ, ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਭ ਛੁਟਕੀ ॥ Within them the light of wisdom shines forth, their hopes and desires have all faded away. ਆਤਮ ਚੀਨ ਪਰਾਤਮ ਚੀਨ੍ਯੋ, ਫੋਰ ਦਈ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੀ ਮਟਕੀ ॥ They have recognized their Self as the Highest Self, the container of doubt which has encased them has been broken in an instant. ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਸਭ ਤ੍ਯਾਗ ਦਯੋ ਹੈ, ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਨ ਸੇ ਅਟਕੀ ॥ Pain and happiness have both been transcended; being imbued with the flavour of the Omnipresent these afflictions have been stalled.
