  4. I spoke to a british pathaan, whose family have long settled in Panjab a short while ago. He told me that it's dangerous over there full stop. Whenever he visits he has to have armed guards and be armed himself. We shouldn't be in the dark about ground level realities in such places. I'm not saying everyone is a fundo sullah in those parts, but only a muppet wouldn't realise that those regions have strong and longstanding links to certain organisations. Even during Sikh raj the place was considered unpredictable and hostile. I worry about Gurdwara Panja Sahib in the the event of any serious upheaval, we all know what happened to those giant Buddha statues nearby.

  7. That's because of the Communal Act brought in by the British that gave reservations for seats to Sikhs, Jains, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Anglo-Indians, Europeans. Furthermore Dalits/SC-ST were promised economic reservations that were denied to other minorities. Classic Divide and Rule Policy to break up India. Gandhi realised that seats would be skewed in favour of Sikhs and went on a fast unto death to avoid fragmenting India and Nehru threatened not to introduce reservations for Dalits if they converted. Hence why most Dalits preferred to stay as Dalits, even though they continue to claim reservations by hiding their new religion if they converted. Anyhow reservations were supposed to be only for 10 years not 70 as is happening.

  8. And this forum has many aforementioned fudhoos. There are threads on that very topic. At the time, I mentioned that Sikhs who are absolutely solid in their Sikhi, eg Sikhligar Sikhs, have been looked over and abandoned. But the caste-enabling and caste-promoting jatts ignored.

  11. It's to do with pushing drugs onto the general population using 'magic' and rituals as spells. Ra is the Egyptian sun god and Bhang is obviously drugs. Also part of karmic cycle as terrorism uses money from drugs bought via Afghanistan/Pakistan/ISI to further agenda of Ghazwe e Hind.

  16. They don't fall for it. They are tricked and manipulated into it. I've seen the following: 1. Lying and pretending they are single when they have wives at home. 2. Lying they are Sikh by wearing kara, using Sikh names. 3. Feigning love and affection to break down barriers so they can have sex. Buying gifts etc. 4. Lying to their wives by pretending they are going to the mosque when they go to visit their girlfriend. 5. Swearing on the Quran to make promises but then break them. This can be with Muslim women as well. 6. Physically kidnapping them and forcing them to obey by threatening them. 7. Lacing them with drink and drugs, rape and recording it and threaten to publish it. Many women have committed suicide as a result. So how can young girls manage to overcome such tactics except to be constantly monitored by their families.

  17. Rice bag is only for poor and destitute Hindus. New converts will be forced to follow diktat of SGPC that is aiding and abetting Christian conversion. The situation is different now as before there was no SGPC and Congress (who in turn is affiliated with ISI). They may be good Sikhs to start with but if the SGPC is not reformed then they will be subject to their evil plans. I can't see how one can reform using outsiders unless they join with an agenda.

  18. The bad influences are mainly to do with the fact that Hindu temples don't have control of their funds and therefore cannot fulfill their duties. Other minority religions/panths are being subsidised through these funds. The end game is to convert everyone away from Dharmic religions. Sikhs are being destroyed to force them into Christianity. If you want to stop this then you need to collaborate with other Dharmic faiths Or introduce ways to stop the destruction, such as bring more Dharmic practices that will empower those being weakened through drugs/alcohol. But as most Gurdwaras are aligned with Congress there is little hope of this happening as they are also responsible for the destruction. So another way would be to form a new hybrid panth away from the influence of SGPC and their cronies. But that seems a long hard road if you can't convince the majority of followers.
    1 point
  19. Not for their own destruction that seems to be mandated from the top. New converts will be more heavily influenced by the controllers who are working against Sikhs so how are they in a position to influence anyone? Anyway it's unfair to use outsiders to bring changes that those within cannot. Surely that points to a failure of the teachings/culture that needs to be addressed first.
    1 point
  20. Sikhs themselves are under attack from within as SGPC is enabling many to be converted to Christianity. Others are being plied with alcohol and drugs. We don't want new converts to face the same fate. Better to try and stop the destruction of existing Sikhs first.

  21. Puzzled, please put the violin away, it doesn't suit you. Personally, mention the dreaded J word all you like - but as long as you mention the M word, the R word, the C word, the T word, the A word....you get the drift. For far too long, an inaccurate one-sided narrative has been propagated and its all BS. Primary sources must be consulted. Meanwhile, lets not forget, why these Jaats ended up in an Indian State called Haryana in the first instance. Ever heard of the Punjabi Suba? In the swinging sixties. Anyway, what was the position of these Jaats on their mother tongue? Let's all stop this myopia and engage in constructive, evidence-based debate, not "Jat this, Jat that" as if we're at a 1980's daytime bhangra gig in Hammersmith. This forum is better than that.

  22. Thanks californiasardar1. The problem is Puzzled, and maybe puzzled is more suited to you than you realise, but the problem is, you're pushing the same narrative that other lazy observers have pushed for the past few decades at the expense of truth. Who was responsible for the diminished Rangrehtta Dal? I give you a clue...it's the same chaps that californiasardar1 mentioned in regards to Phulkian "misl". One of these days Puzzled, you will pick up a history book and actually study who stood shoulder to shoulder with Guru Gobind Singh, who was given a kalgi at Chamkaur, which Dal went AWOL in the mid-eighteenth century despite commanding control posts at Peshawar and the kept the quarrelsome Pathans at bay? For the vast majority of the time, the misls that you mention spent more time fighting each other and actually, the Bhangi's took Lahore strategically (nothing wrong with that by the way) and crucially not due to superior military prowess. Who formed the majority of the Nishaanvali misl or Dallewalia misl not to mention formed a significant proportion of the Sukerchakia misl? All I can say is, isn't it fascinating that those communities who have a 5 century history of sacrifice for Sikhi are now told to live in "chamaarlis", prevented from taking Amrit from the same thaal as jats but hey, lets preach to jaats from Haryana in the hope that Sajjan Kumar's clan, a chap who was responsible for a genocide in Delhi, embrace Sikhi. Wonderful. Absolutely fabulous.

  23. You forget to mention Bir Singh Ranghretta, who prior to the Misl period, ie Dal Khalsa, commanded one of 5 Dal's of the Dal Khalsa. What became of him? By the way, isn't it interesting that the original poster didn't suggest that we should appeal to so-called lower strata's of Hindu society to consider Sikhi as a path? What does that tell us?

  24. Sikhi was the biggest rebellion against the caste system. "Sikhs" from a certain caste are the biggest fans of the caste system and will do whatever it takes to promote/propagate it.

  25. It's interesting that you say this because our impression of North American Sikhs is that with the exception of asylum seekers from the post-'84 years, generally the auntie's and uncles all have a haircut and the kids have lost the plot. It's true that the drinking culture in the UK Sikh community is crazy but North America has caught up.

  27. Many Sikhs and asians in general look up to the royal family. But did anyone realise how racist the royal family is. They may not show it upfront be belive me these people are the most racist you can get. Heres some remarks that were caught on tape by Prince harry. If this is what they say in the open. Who knows what tripe they come out with in private. some info taking from wikpedia Harry earned a reputation in his youth for being rebellious, leading the tabloid press to label him a "wild child".[151] He was seen at age 17 smoking cannabis and partaking in underage drinking with his friends, clashing physically with paparazzi outside nightclubs,[151] and was photographed at Highgrove House at a "Colonial and Native" themed costume party wearing a Nazi German Afrika Korps uniform with a swastikaarmband.[152] He later issued a public statement apologising for his behaviour.[153] In January 2009, the British tabloid, the News of the World, revealed a video made by Harry three years earlier in which he referred to a Pakistani fellow officer cadet as "our little Pakifriend" and called a soldier wearing a cloth on his head a "raghead". These terms were described by then-Leader of the Opposition David Cameron as "unacceptable",[154] and by The Daily Telegraph as "racist",[154] with a British Muslim youth organisation calling Harry a "thug".[155] Clarence Houseimmediately issued an apology from Harry, who stated that no malice was intended in his remarks.[156] Former British MP and Royal Marine, Rod Richards, said that such nicknames were common amongst military comrades, stating "in the Armed Forces people often used to call me Taffy. Others were called Yankie, Oz or Kiwi or whatever. I consider Paki as an abbreviation for Pakistani. I don't think on this occasion it was intended to be offensive."[157]

  30. Erm, what? What's to say that they were Sikhs prior to becoming Buddhists? I would venture to say they were not. They were just "Hindus" (not really, because they probably couldn't participate fully in the temple rituals), but do you have anything to say they were actually Sikhs? The fact is that they were looking around for a religion to join, and Ambedkar chose Budhism, so that's what they became. Also, when you say that Punjabi Buddhists are Buddhists because of caste discrimination, that's exactly why I questions why a Chahal would feel the need to become a Buddhist. Obviously, it's for a reason other than caste discrimination.

  33. Wow. Early Punjabi immigrants certainly drank a lot more than today's generation. In those days, given the racism suffered elsewhere, wrongly, Gurdwara's became a social meeting point as well as a place of worship. Thankfully, behaviour have changed but that's because people drink elsewhere, not because they don't drink at all.

  34. BhForce, The Guru's don't want us to revert to the 16th century, with no cars and no technologies. But everything is within moderation. Excessive sleeping, excessive eating - all wrong. Both documented within gurbani. But the Guru's didn't advocate for us to stay awake and starve - get it? This therefore begs the question, why the monster cars?
    1 point
  35. BhForce, "So how is it that you, with your little car, are not "destroying Waheguru" Seriously? This is common sense. A car is a means to an end. It gets you from A to B. No one is questioning it's practicality. But anything that is over and above your means is excessive. It's that "excess" that is wrong.

  36. The interesting point to note is that for decades, Sikhs complained that Bollywood mocks Sikhs as dumb, stupid, etc. Now that Panjabi films have taken off somewhat, many scripts show jatts mocking khatris using derogatory remarks. No one complains, of course.

I felt that one of the young commentators in the "Seven Days in Summer: countdown to Partition" programme on Tuesday was heavily biased against Sikhs, painting us "extremists" yet the Muslims were not described as such....

  40. Unless anyone has been living in the Gobi desert over the last 20 odd years, it is clearly apparent that jatts are disproportionately represented in either grooming or running away with Muslim men - and this is despite accounting for confounding factors such as "most Sikhs are jatt". The other notable factor which we can't ignore is that the victims are nearly always from the Midlands. Which, for those of you who aren't aware, is notorious for having heavy drinking jatts (compared with London or elsewhere). The jatts openly boast about their drinking exploits, in songs or on social media. Heck, I still remember when they called into a discussion programme on Nihal's show on the BBC Asian Network, who was discussing alcohol abuse in the "panjabi" community: "we jatts have enzymes which metabolise alcohol more efficiently than other Asian races"!!! There are clearly a lack of strong male role models with strong Sikhi-inspired values in jatt families. Hardly any of their menfolk wear a turban. They're now paying a heavy price for substituting Sikhi for Punjabi culture, which, even to this day, they haven't realised. I visit the Midlands often because I have extended family living there. There is literally a pub on every corner, mostly owned and run by Punjabi's and they see it as a "badge of honour" that they spend all their time drinking. This is a hangover from the "black country" industrial age, when drinking was seen as a way of socialising in the early days of immigration (no other past times) and as a way of "rehydrating the body" after working in furnaces. However, that can not explain why 2nd and 3rd or 4th generation Midlands Sikhs drink themselves to cirrhosis and a disproportionate number of Sikh females (who identify themselves as jatt) vulnerable to exploitation.

  41. He has publicly stated that he supports his mother. Given that he is now a public servant, it is vital that the public are aware of his background in order to view his forthcoming stance on key issues through the prism of his mother's history. It's not "putting labour politicians down", it's informing the public - that's the purpose of the press. Unless of course, you live in North Korea.

  42. What I meant was it's a shame if he is. Wikipedia entries: He is the son of Jaspal Singh Dhesi, who runs a construction company in the UK, and who is the former president of Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar, in Gravesend, the largest Gurdwara in the UK. Dhesi has a bachelor's degree in mathematics with management studies from University College London, studied applied statistics at Keble College, Oxford, and has a Master of Philosophy in the history and politics of South Asia from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.[1] This seems really good, especially the MPhil he has South east Asia history. But then the next paragraph is so dodgy. In 2012, his mother, Dalwinder Kaur Dhesi, was jailed in India, for kidnap and forcing an abortion on a teenage mother, who later died.[4][5] I did some research regarding this, and this is regarding the girl involved with the ex SGPC president Jagir Kaur (was it her daughter or daughter in law). So with the Dad being involved in Gurdwara committee, the Mum being involved in nefarious activity with an SGPC President - and the son is active in politics. As sikhs, I am sure we have learnt to be careful of all politicians including SGPC, Gurdwara committees and government.

I have personal views on Degh Maryada but they will be viewed as 'katar' so I wont be sharing. 3. Unheard of where Professional Kirtani 'Jathas' are concerned, where they struggle to make numbers, it's like an unwritten rule or call it tradition to have a 3rd person for show. It is odd they barely make a noise and when they do it's out of tune. Not only the ragis should sing but all of the Sangat as well. In India the majority of Sangat and men in particular do not sing at all and sit there looking at the camera like its the first time they've seen one. 4. Also heard this and agree should be memorised to prevent beadbi.
