  1. As Sikhs or even South Asian for that matter. We should never celebrate or like the royals or the history of them. Their ancestors trampled all over our lands and the sub continent. Killing millions. The British Raj was discraceful. They looted South Asia, what is Britain today. Is all the wealth they stole from all the colonies they ruled all around the world. Asia, Africa, far east even America and Canada. These pesky people stole and looted where ever the greedy muddy hands took them. It's in their DNA to steal and loot. She is not our queen and Charles is not our King. Our only King of Kings is Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Abolish the monarchy I say. I don't even think the so called "Royals" want to even continue with it themselves. Look at Prince Harry he's left and exposed the royals. They all feel trapped and have become puppets for the government. I bet so many older generation gorafied Punjabis will be wishing they get as far up the royals bund as possible in the new few days.

  2. For a Singh or Kaur to be going into a Barber shop for this curling thing is a bit odd, if they want to do beard curling, they should do it themselves instead of going to a Barber where Hajjamat is performed every day.

  3. In Punjab it's not that much of a sacrifice to wear a turban tbh. A grown adult who's relatively secure in his identity isn't going to just cut his hair, even if he doesn't necessarily believe in Sikhi in Punjab just because they aren't the perfect Keshdhari or Amritdhari gursikh.

  4. Why is the post I just posted hidden? No bad words, just a quote from Gurbani. Is it because the new discussion board software flags non-English characters? If so, could you set it so it doesn't flag Gurmukhi characters? @S1ngh

  6. She was a pretty good Queen (from a Canadian prespective). In my opnion Sikhs in the UK should keep an eye on King Charles. We have a close knit relationship with the British despite our tribulations. Yes they were our enemies at one point but they were also our friends when it came to progress and what not. They honoured our people when it came to bravery and courage. Can we trust the British after all the rifts? This is something we have to ask ourselves and our leaders. But then again they probably turn a blind eye when it comes to us and circumstances. WJKK WJKF

  9. @proudkaur21 Thats soo sad. Waheguru. Really had tough week and now seeing that news. Heartbreaking. i thought too but it seems its more of a show. Like you see Sikh successful in bc with huge houses farms, and then in politics but majority are in deprived conditions and doing all sorts of wrong things esp those students who need to make ends meet

  10. @Kau89r8 @dallysingh101 just look how many punjabis die every week in canada. Literally every other day there is some news like this. Just recently a girl killed in ubc then a guy committed suicide another punjabi student fell from 50th floor of a building while doing construction and died and now this. Just within a span of few days. And these are the known cases. @Premi5 @proactive

  13. Yes and No. UK when Sikhs hit front pages, its for bad stuff. Also bare in mind i've been searching at Hindu orgs they have way more budgets than Khlasa Aid and it seems to be bugging them that Khalsa Aid gets more recognized then their seva... You got to look at the bigger pic and its Hindus/Indian media and they're portrayal of Sikhs, whereas langar has given the window to make us known not being 'terrorists'... I know where you are coming from, but then if KA is doing langar seva, rest should invest in warrior aspect Khalsa

  15. https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/7643535/sikh-volunteers-hand-out-free-meals-to-the-city-that-survived-a-tsunami/ Lismore floods: Sikh volunteer handing out free meals in Lismore says the town survived a "tsunami" Sikh volunteers have said there is a lot more work to be done in Lismore after handing out 1500 meals in the flood-devastated town. Members of Sikh Volunteers Australia (SVA) were given a police escort around flooded roads to enter Lismore at 5pm on Wednesday after a 35-hour journey that began in Melbourne at 6am on Tuesday. The not-for-profit organisation was thanked by locals as they handed out meals of soy bean curry and rice, water and supplies on the street, at student accommodation and at evacuation centres. SVA spokesman Jaswinder Singh said he "has not seen anything of this scale" when describing the devastation in Lismore. "The water mark on the trees was sitting at somewhere between 20 to 25 feet [6 to 7.6 metres]. It was not just a flood, it was a tsunami," he said. Mr Singh said that Lismore locals are still in shock as they begin to clean up the flood damage. "I sensed that the people were in shock but they are very resilient and very strong people. They have witnessed the flood before but not this scale. So, it's a mixed feeling down in the town. People know that they have to recover from this but they really don't know how to do that," Mr Singh said. "They are doing the cleaning of the shops, of their houses. At the moment there is not much resources available for them to conduct this massive job but they are bouncing back." The SVA normally cooks in commercial-size kitchens but are currently living at a local person's house in Lismore, who is allowing them to use their home kitchen to cook their next batch of meals for Thursday. "We have three big burners, we have big pots, we have a lot of grocery supplies with us. We are like a mobile kitchen, you just give us a dry space and a gas connection and we are good to go," Mr Singh said. The volunteers prepared white chickpea curry and rice for the free meals they distributed at evacuation centres and on the street on Thursday. Mr Singh said the next challenge is getting more food and supplies delivered up to Lismore as their ingredient supply is likely to be depleted within the next two days. "We have arranged our own supply truck from Newcastle. But since this morning the situation in northern Sydney and Newcastle is not very good, so I don't know how long it will take, they say it could take a good eight to 10 hours to reach Lismore," he said. The long road to Lismore SVA members began driving from southeast Melbourne at 6am on Tuesday to arrive at the First Gurdwara of Australia in Woolgoolga on the NSW Mid North Coast at 4am on Thursday. After having a four-hour sleep, they got up to cook 1500 meals on Wednesday morning before getting back on the road at 12pm to travel to Lismore. But the volunteers faced road blocks in Grafton and were seemingly halted in their tracks until a highway patrol officer gave them a police escort to avoid flooded waters and arrive in Lismore at 5:30pm. Including driving, cooking and rests, it took the volunteers a total of 35 hours to travel from Melbourne to Lismore with 1500 hot meals, bottled water and supplies in tow. Mr Singh said two more volunteers are flying from Melbourne to Lismore on Friday to boost their numbers. "We will stay as long as it's required," he said. If you can help, call Jaswinder Singh on 0452 601 734 or those who want to donate to Sikh Volunteers Australia can do so on their website.

  21. Do they respect you for your standing and virtues as an individual as well as the historical reputation of the community and identity to which you belong, or is it a combination of pity / being humoured because you're viewed as that harmless little Singh that couldn't do anything even if he wanted to?

  22. It's pathetic and you get treated with no respect. People just tolerate you and you go through life like a worm. Nobody cares about what you did in the past for them. It's what leverage you have over them now. You're right, not a nice guy, just a pathetic persona for survival purposes. It's also one of the reasons the womenfolk look down on the men who behave like this and look elsewhere as they are biologically wired that way.

  27. Spot on! Sikhs helped transport their girls safely home from across India and provided them food and shelter in our Gurudwars, all the while looking like the bad guys in the eyes of rest of India. This noble act along with the mosque building spree our brothers are on in Punjab has not yielded the desired results. Maybe the langars and mosques need to be fancier to please our brothers.

  28. Apart from the few who can see the bigger picture and game at play in terms of geopolitics, most of our community leaders/thinkers in the subcontinent are completely clueless and incompetent to give any genuine leadership on issues that matter. It goes back to what @dalsingh101 mentioned about 'chaploosia' as being the motivating factor for our absurd actions and political positioning. The above mentioned Jathedaars of our Kaum would not let Sikh girls be targeted for abuse or abduction. They would not allow police and authorities to brutalize our people and go scott free. They would not stand by and let our community be targeted in far off states of india or neighbouring pakistan/afghanistan. They would not let Guruji Saroops being targeted again and again and let authorities conduct half-hearted, dragged out, useless investigations.

  29. That's not going to happen. As far as such people are concerned: they are at war. Doing this to the perceived enemy is a winner for them. It demoralises the community, and they feel that it makes them look strong. It's that old chestnut of trying to show people up as incapable of looking after their females.

  30. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh... Sadh sangat ji, my fiance and I are both amritdhari and want a very very simple Anand karaj. There will be a very very small number of people attending according to our list as we want it to be very basic and according to Sikh marayada, as much as possible. We would day around 10 people tops (mainly just immediate family and crossing out the rishtedaar that we don't really interact with). We have searched online and most of what we are reading is about "Panjabi" weddings and nothing constructive in regards to a simple Gursikh Anand karaj. Has anyone had a very basic Sikh wedding at the Gurdwara Sahib only or been involved in this type of wedding that can list exactly what is needed? We will not being doing things like choora, gold Kara, maiyaan and all that stuff. We just want to know exactly what needs to take place for the Anand karaj to be in accordance to Sikhi without all the fuss and usual cultural stuff that takes place. Thank you in advance. Bhul chuk maafi. Vaheguru...

  31. I mean a very simple sikh wedding would be something called chadar paouni where Anand Sahib is read, but it's not something performed at gurdwara sahib!
    1 point
  32. I am sure theres many sikh videos of weddings. Look at rainsbai weddings. Or akj weddings. There is milni. As the girls side of the family is in charge of the venue. They get their earlier and prepare breakfast langar ( cha pakore etc). Then when the groom and his family come over. They meet each other outside the gurudwara in the parking lot. Ideally the girls family should be doing kirtan with vaja dholki of Aye Mil Gurshikh... as they welcome the grooms family. but if noone from the girls family is a musician, the two families can just greet each other with fateh. Then each of the relatives are introduced to their contrapart. The father meet the father in law. They can say fateh and give sarope to each other. Then the mothers, brothers, uncles, aunts. Then the grooms party is invited to eat langar ( i think they do this before matha teking and as they are sangat, they are allowed to eat first...i think) After langar, groom and his family go matha tek. The groom sits in front of the sangat where they do matha tek. Then bride walks in. Matha teks, sits next to groom. The palla ardaas is done. Then the shabad about Pallai taindai laagee (or is shabad done before?) And then lavaan etc.

  34. I neither think modelling on 3HO or Muslims is a sustainable or even desirable way to get sikhi out . Sewa and langar from the get go has worked , parchaar, kirtan , vichar and one to one relations with good sikhs are much more effective put it this way the traditional way has grown sikhi from 1 to multimillions whereas yoga route has contributed a mere thousand or so and that too people with lukewarm convinction in Guru ji's words preferring to rely on a paapi's interpretation in combo with their hippy pseudohindu philosophy

  36. The Uncle Toms in our community (more so the apparently smart, younger generation) have fallen for this hook, line, and sinker. It's like a Diet Sikhi version of the faith that's being peddled; a watered-down interpretation that's filtered exclusively through Western thought. Why are our bhandars doing the other side's work for them when they should be rallying against it? Is it really so basic as throwing out centuries of quite nuanced and considerate tradition for something that's less of a hassle to digest and follow, regardless of whether it's rooted in any genuine precedence? We're a cheap, shallow people, and it disgusts me. Bunch of mugs.

  39. * K Brar the dog who led the attack on our Jind Jaan, Sri Harmandar Sahib actually specifically mentioned this forum in one of his interviews, shows that the govt is aware and tracking the movements of Panth Dardis online as well. * Many young Sikhs who were involved in online Panthic seva were arrested by Punjab Police a few months back. * The Indian RAW mole planted in the German Sikh community was arrested recently as well. Germany has the maximum number of wanted Sikh Kharkoos and has always been a Khalistani stronghold, this is the reason they infiltrated it. * Unofficial reports from the Council of Khalistan (USA) talk about 2500 persons planted by the Indian Govt in our diaspora to divide us, mislead us and give information of potential Kharkoos to the Sarkar.

  40. The way I see it the very term Dharam is misused. Its a singular term defining a single notion/ideal/perception. Our parochial vision however has led us to divide it into Islamic Dharam, Hindu Dharam etc.

  43. really do you want to sink to the level or below of such people or do you actually want to shut them up ? if that had been in a failing rag such as Charlie I wouldn't have give them the benefit of my breath because the attention I would create will give oxygen to a dying patient ...I would happily wait out its demise, not creating a flap to incite the curiousity of others and increase the circulation of that same rabid opinion. Point is these 'brave' cartoonists/writers are anything but , they hide behind the company's letterhead . But if there was a person who was courageous enough to say the same to my face they would get a warning first , then if they repeated, final warning , then third a smack in the mouth.

  44. Fact is not insult. I knew you were going to pull this line, thats why I even provided you with references. Secondly, on the matter of satire, which started this debacle we can say even the Bhagat Sahibaans were satirists. Bhagat Namdev mentions Muslims being one-eyed, Kabir proclaims the fallibility of both Islam and Hinduism. Would you consider that as being insulting? If Bhagat Namdev was alive today and again reiterated, 'Muslims are blind' would you argue that he deserves, or deserved, to die because of his thoughts. Wouldn't that be restricting Bhagat Sahib's freedom of speech though? You argue freedom of speech is hypocritical, but would that make any firm believer in it hypocritical?

  45. Pakhandi Baba the very people you are defending believe in a God who has decreed: '...the only religion acceptable to Allah is Islam' (Koran 3:19), I have referenced the verse in case you have any doubts. Furthermore: "The Holy Prophet himself forbade people to ask questions ...so do not try to probe into such things." (The Meaning of the Qur'an, Maududi, vol. III, pgs. 76-77) . Thus any Muslim, worth his salt, would not go against the grain and attempt to question some of the more controversial teachings of Islam. The Sixth Shia Imam, Jafar Sadiq once captured the Islamic mentality, in regards to self scrutiny and criticism, by saying: 'One who exposes something from our religion is like one who intentionally kills us.' And here is the conclusive peace: ‘ The blood of a Muslim is illicit to shed except for one of three reasons: a married adulterer must be stoned; one who wilfully commits murder must be put to death; and a man who comes out of Islam and fights Allah and His Prophet must be put to death or crucified or banished from the earth.’ And the latter process is called Irtidad. Do not defend the ideology of Islam because then you would end up having to defend, the Mongols, Mughals, Taliban, Al-Qaidi, Deobandis, and 9/11. If anything defend Muslims as humans who can be made to see reality. Do not force them deeper into their pre-Modern Arabian mentality by playing the 'if an ideology is a religion, it must be good' game.
