  1. Thought I'd start a thread about books worth reading. They don't have to be Sikhi related. I picked up: Confessions of an economic hit man by John Perkins. Have been told it's a must read.

  2. just got this from the Library ** THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER **A GUIDE TO USING THE SCIENCE OF THE BODY CLOCK TO CREATE THE OPTIMUM PERSONAL ROUTINE: SLEEP BETTER, WORK BETTER, FEEL BETTER.'A superlative guide to some of the most intriguing questions of human existence' - Bill Bryson, author of The Body: A Guide for Occupants'Who knew our body clocks determined so much of our health, happiness, and lifespan?I learned so much' - James Nestor, author of Breath In the twenty-first century, we increasingly push our daily routines into the night, carrying out work, exercise and our social lives long after dark. But we have forgotten that our bodies are governed by a 24-hour biological clock which guides us towards the best time to sleep, eat and think. In Life Time, Professor Russell Foster shares his life's work, taking us on a fascinating and surprising journey through the science of our body clocks. Using his own studies, as well as insights from an international community of sleep scientists and biologists studying circadian rhythms, he illustrates the surprising effects the time of day can have on our health, including:- how a walk outside at dawn can ensure a better night's sleep- how eating after sundown can affect our weight- the extraordinary effects the time we take our medication can have on our risk of life-threatening conditions, such as strokesIn the modern world, we have neglected an essential part of our biology. But with knowledge of this astonishing science, we can get back into the rhythm, and live healthier, sharper lives. https://www.penguin.co.uk/books/321815/life-time-by-foster-russell/9780241529317 @dallysingh101I saw this also, think you would like it @GurjantGnostic @jkvlondon @californiasardar1 @Ranjeet01 anyone been reading other books?

  3. "I'm a devout Sikh -- and married to a man." What an absurd statement. I'm glad that Jasvir Singh has a trimmed beard, as it helps make it obvious how inaccurate his claim of being a "devout Sikh" is for people who may not know that same sex marriage is not compatible with a gurmat lifestyle. The funny thing is, just observing the organization from its online presence, I would have guessed that it was created primarily to help guys like Jasvir Singh and Param Singh (remember how he appeared on a dating game show?) meet women. How wrong I was.

  4. There is going to be a civil war in india in the comming years. We need to be prepared. And let them kill each other, when they come for us we will see. Be prepared but dont try to be superheroes and get yourselves killed for others. we have to fight for Sikhi now . They want us to fight their wars and get killed while our own people are suffering.

  6. Putin is like the Tsarist of old and feels that the previous leaders made mistakes. He feels that he is rectifying these mistakes. Ukraine is in some ways is a manufactured state. The Eastern part is Russian whereas the Western part comes from parts ceded by Hungary / Poland/ Romania etc. There are also large Russian minorities in the Baltic States (Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania ) which also are NATO Members. Having worked with many people from this part of Europe you come to realise that there is a lot of animosity between these groups. They make whatever we have in the subcontinent look like a picnic.

  14. I have another question to . My Grandma does this charag ( lighting a jot on Thursday) for this sufi saint and there is a jagha over their in our pind in india too for this guy. Apparently my Great Great Grandpa used to light a jot too. It’s kind off like a family thing I guess buy I don’t want to do it because of Sikhi. What should I do. I have proof that this sufi saints energy exists even though he’s dead for god knows how long. Please help me.

  23. It is an observation. What you will also notice the traditional gurdwara has three exits, one at the back behind Maharaj and two on the side. Because Maharaj tends to be more centrally located people will matha tek not once at the front but go towards the matha tek behind Maharaj and matha tek again. There is more space to manoeuvre. In the west, it looks odd. In Punjab and in India (you will notice on the program on TV of Harimandir Sahib), you notice people sitting in front, behind and around the sides.

  24. We in USA and Canada need to do more to stop this beadbi of Maharaj. We need to stop interfaith Anand Karaj like they did in UK. Need to get the gurdwaras on board with stopping the interfaith marriages. Make a list of Gurudwaras that do it and how to stop them from doing it in the future.

  26. might as well do a bank transfer to the grooms household without the wedding , its all business transactions . How about making the parents and the couple sign legal documents that state no money/goods was demanded or transferred between parties and if they divorce within ten years then both families have to give daswand of all income for rest of life . Wonder how many would still want anand Karaj.

  27. they have been made that way by the iron vice like grip on adult roles by the bazurg . looking at forty year olds and saying halle niaana hai is totally bizarre especially given in our history kids were expected to be responsible , ready to protect their families in the absence of their fathers and male relatives , women were expected to know gurbani and teach to kids . The haumai of the elderly and the spoilt narcissism of the middle aged means the youth are also doomed to drag the standard even lower.

  28. I was invited to a Sukhmani Sahib paat at the Gurdwara a couple of years back for the first time in ages, and I was blown away by the total shambles of the sangat assembled. Full-blown conversations on both sides; people playing with phones and watching football highlights; kids running around like it was daycare, etc. I was disgusted. I got up to tell the stage secretary to make a polite announcement to inform the sangat to keep it down and have some respect, which he did, but that lasted for barely 5 minutes. Pathetic. This was me at the end: ??
