I know, but to get things moving you can start a topic on mindless things such as my wife/mother in law did this and have multiple replies. Those get a lot of replies.4 points

Good point. In fact, in the old days, there simply were not enough birs of Gur Granth Sahib ji to go around. So prakash of shasters was done in some Gurdwaras. You can matha tek to a Gutka Sahib, too.2 points

When you are at home, you can do ardas in front of sastar as well.2 points

In general, no one really uses forums a lot anymore and growth is stagnant. Usually they're populated by OG users and once they stop posting and cease their activity, others tend to follow suit. There are still some socials that have engaging talks about Sikhi. You can try Twitter (X), Discord, Reddit, Tiktok, gurdwareh group chats, etcetera. Idk man. Sikhi as a whole is pretty much dying tbf. It makes sense that you'll see less engagement over time. A lot of people contend that the religion is being revived in the west, in particular by Gen Z. The zoomer lot is definitely kind of active, but they're mostly all talk and no action. It's like some kind of flex to feign religiosity. It's not just Sikhi though, it's all of 'em. Not only that, but at one point you just grow up and have more serious matters to attend to. I used to be online for hours and hours and mess around and post but now I don't even have time to do anything b/c I'm spending time with my family & getting married soon. Now, I'm just worried about making babies. Everything's a blur. There are probably others that feel the same as well.2 points

I guess easier ways of learning have taken precedence. There are so many Youtube channels and podcasts available that people are more ready to listen for knowledge at their own leisure. There are so many great kathas available online that take months to listen, so that people may not really get the time to come here and write.2 points

do ardas at home, do ardas outside, and do ardas at gurughar. Maybe there is a smaller gurdwara where it is less crowded and there are less programmes, that you can go to?2 points

A 17-year old kid in the UK stabbed 10 people and killed 3 children. This is quite a horrific incident. What makes this story nuts is the fact the British folks blamed Muslims when it was (according to media reports) a Black British Born kid brought up in Southport, England (he turned 18). There was rioting followed by a police van being burnt in front of a mosque. I have doubts that it was black British born kid-probably a British born Anglo-Saxon kid, just because the amount of support the groups involved in the riots get-but then again I might be wrong. This however is a clear indication in the times we are living in. A innocent 17-year old kid killing 3 children is crazy.1 point

Oxford English Dictionary: Worship: reverence or veneration paid to a being or power regarded as supernatural or divine. The problem is missionaries don't think of Guru Granth Sahib ji as supernatural or divine. Rather they think Gurbani is merely some poetry about God, who is divine. Of course, this is totally wrong because 1) Gurbani is divine and is God and 2) Gurbani says "the Pothi (book) is the abode of God".1 point
-
It's the missionary mindset. They would either deny that Sikhs bowed before Guru Nanak Dev ji or would say that that was only "respect" and that they only "worshipped" God. The reason, again, is they don't believe Guru is God. No, bro, it's the same thing. But just in case Veer Manpreet Singh thinks it's different, we can just say "Fine, we won't worship Guru Granth Sahib ji, we will do pooja of Guru ji." Part of this is caused by us using English terms and then quibbling over the definitions. If we just used the word pooja, there wouldn't be a problem. Also, Sikhs don't read Gurbani. If they did, they wouldn't fall prey to missionary preaching.1 point

Umm, so you're upset that this jatha did Chaupai the same way it's being done at Harimandar Sahib for 100 years? Shouldn't you be upset at the manager of Darbar Sahib? I'm not saying that Sikhs who are aware of certain issues shouldn't do the longer Chaupai, but there are only so many battles you can fight. Instead of calling some jatha traitors because they're doing the (for better or worse) "standard" Chauapai published by the SGPC, it would be better to change things from the central point. You can't fault the average Sikh for picking up the average Gutka and doing paath.1 point

Basically, Harimandir Sahib is holy because it's a place of singing praise of God: ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ Gauri 5th Guru. Blessed is this place, where they sing praises of the World Master. The Lord Himself Blesseth them with peace and pleasure. But a photo isn't that. It's not the real thing. Similarly, a statue of a deity is not the deity. So we shouldn't be worshipping the photo. One type of partakh (immediate) darshan of Guru ji is going to the Gurdwara to see Guru Granth Sahib ji. Because the Book is the abode of God: ਪੋਥੀ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਕਾ ਥਾਨੁ ॥ This Holy Book (the Adi Granth) is the abode of the Transcendent Lord. Whosoever sings the World-Lord's praise in the society of the saints, he is blessed with the perfect Divine knowledge. Pause. p1226 There is another level of Darshan which Guru ji pines for and which is above merely going to the Gurdwara: ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੋਹੁ ਦੀਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਰਾ ॥ Show compassion and kindness, O Merciful Lord, and by king to the meek. Supplicates Nanak, I am thirsting for a sight of Thee. By obtaining a view of Thine I receive all the happiness. This Darshan is found through Bani and worship: ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥ My Lord God! Thy Gurubani is Nectar. By continuously hearing it, I have obtained the highest rank. The burning within me is extinguished and my soul is rendered cool on having the sight of the True Guru1 point

The picture of Harimandir is not Harimandir Sahib. Best is to go to Gurdwara and do ardas at a quiet time. Just stand to the side to allow people to matha tek if they are coming in. While it's true that God's everywhere, we don't have the eyes to see him at our current spiritual level so the patakh darshan of Guru Ji is important. Regarding thy mind's woe, make supplication before thy Guru. p519 ਤੁਧੁ ਆਗੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥ Before Thee is my supplication. My soul and body are all Thine. p3831 point

Lol this is so common. This is the average wedding. Plus nowadays auntiyaan and young girls are dressing half naked in lenghas and saris and stuff or literally sometimes even a western dress. Men freely dance with women. Plus they hire some naked belly dancer or hire some Bhangra team dancing like monkeys at ur wedding. It’s awful. I assume it’s Punjabi culture. Let’s not mention all the men getting drunk and trying to hit on the women at the weddings. So many young folks skip the gurudwara wedding too because it’s boring and they can’t get lit even though that’s the main part of the wedding & most important. Amritdhari men and women are less likely to engage in such activities tho, I don’t see them doing this, when they get invited to such weddings they sit in the corner and refuse to engage or dance and such. I’m marrying into a non Punjabi family and me and my partner went to a Sikh wedding recently because he’s never experienced one and he was shocked and said he thought Sikhs were way more conservative.1 point

Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.1 point

Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.1 point

You're confusing two different things: One is merely adding starch to a turban to get a certain feel to the fabric. The other is tying your turban once and taking it off like a hat. It is this that people have a problem with. What's wrong with it is that Rehit says to tie your turban afresh every time. If you ask, "Where is that written?", it's written in Bhai Nand Lal ji's Rehitnama. @ipledgeblue didn't just make it up. Umm, no, bro. We're not evangelical Christians like President George W Bush of the US claiming to "talk to God" who told him to invade Iraq. "Speaking to him directly" basically ends up being doing whatever you feel like with the excuse that Guru ji told you to do it. If you still want to take your turban off like a hat, feel free to do so, but don't claim that it's Rehit.1 point

This is why people used to get married earlier in puratan times. Think about it, nowadays you legit have to be brahmacharya at ages when you're supposed to be married and producing children, which historically speaking, is unprecedented outside of the Sants in Indic tradition.1 point

Refraining from killing innocent people and raping women is not "virtue signalling." What is the purpose of massacring innocent people who are taking a train to Pakistan? What threat do they pose? How is killing people who are already on their way out of country necessary to ensure your survival? If you think it is okay to kill innocent people who pose no threat to you, then you don't believe in Sikhi. If you think it is okay to kill children or rape women under any circumstances, then you don't believe in Sikhi. It is not that complicated.1 point

no excuses, but these days people are getting married at stupidly older ages. And a lot of teens, 20s and students have no control of their vikaar panj chor, and they end up in these stupid trash girlfriend boyfriend partnerships instead of anand karaj or marriage! They are really stupid in not getting married. Some people NEED to be married in their teens or by the time they reach 20! Although even 20 is too old for many people, they already have baggage by then, and some also have out of wedlock kids and abortions! The biggest hypocrisy I used to see growing up was teens saying they are too young to get married, yet they used to make partners anyway through "dating" bakwass trash garbage! We need to change our mentality, and youngsters need to be explained to seriously that they should only be looking for marital partners, and not down this spiral! this stuff is happening more and more because of looking for partners so LATE: Remember, at Guru jis' times the parents used to even start looking for future partners in the childrens' pre-teens, and this includes Guru jis. There is no excuses in starting to look for your childrens' partners in their 20s only! We are so ill-prepared, and so mentally ill-equipped. Late marriages are also causing more sikhs to cut hair kesh and beard, and drinking and drug issues as well as smoking and hookah etc. There is less focus on grihast jeevan and more focus on depression, desires and pleasure. We are also having less children, and too big age gaps between generations. Our Singh families should be having more children, and less gaps between ages. Need more Singhs to protect families and the panth, too many attackers on every side!1 point

Obviously every sikh has to learn gurmukhi, the phonetics in gurmukhi cannot be accurately translated to other language, however reading baani in english or hindi or spanish or whatever is better than reading no baani at all for people who cannot read gurmukhi yet. I think everyone should read Guru Granth Sahib ji as many times as possible, with meanings, you learn so much. It's also good to read dasam granth and sarabloh granth. We should read as much as possible imo, we're lacking a lot of knowledge in sikhi. Kirtan is essential imo, if anyone has the opportunity to learn raag kirtan, they should, and make sure kids know kirtan as well, it's the one thing that connects you. That's all part of religion though, learning gurmukhi, reading baani, learning about sikhi, and learning sikhi is for sikhs, not punjabis, we have to remember that the two are not synonymous.1 point

and those same biharis are now turning on their employers and raping or running away with their daughters , beating and killing their sons via drugs . They are being supported by GOI to buy land in Punjab remember these were folks who were so hardup they had to move across India to make a living , it is part of the three pronged approach . destroy the history, the economics and then the people1 point
-
Because they know there is a market for making money and so they want to move away from their actual image in the world - that of a failing, violence ridden state, which cannot feed it's own people. They have an ambition to entice Sikhs to their side, by claiming that they "love" and "respect" us as much as Hindus/India does. They want Sikhs to gush over the hospitality offered to them by Pakistan. These pilgrims who go there are kind of roped into interviews. These Sikhs should be asking two very vital questions: 1. Why have Sikhs paid for the passage for to Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur, when the land of that Gurdwara extends to the border anyway and why have Pak Govt claimed they have spent millions on the corridor, when they have also taken millions and millions of Gurdwara land revenue since 1947? 2. Why has Shaheed Ganj Bhai Mani Singh and Gurdwara Lal Khoohi not be returned to Sikhs after they have been taken over by Muslims? Gurdwara Lal Khoohi is the a Gurdwara to remember the site of Guru Arjan Dev Ji's torture before Guru Sahib vanished in the Ravi, where Gurdwara Dehra Sahib is sited. Iinstead of asking these questions the Sikh visitors just gush over the arrangements made, even though they are paying for them in VISA fees etc.1 point

Unfortunately our people have a tendency to want to replicate what someone else had done. For years there was never a Punjabi radio station, then one started and a few years later there were nearly a dozen. The same happened with the satellite channel, Sikh channel started and then another channel came up and then another etc. This is pointless, what is needed is 1 Sikh channel or two channels, 1 in Punjabi and the other in English for the youth and for parchar. Ravi Singh started his karobar in 1999 and now we have over a dozen organisations who seem to think that we are just on this planet to transfer our wealth onto other communities. There's Langar Aid, Hemkunt Foundation, United Sikhs etc. Now on twitter you cannot read a few tweets about Sikhs without some pointless tweet from one of the organisations banging their drums about how great they are how they are helping humanity.1 point

It’s not genetics, the partition generation was tougher physically, spiritually, and mentally than the ones being born in Delhi. Also, let’s not forget how Sahibzade and Guru Sahib’s genetically are khatris along with men like Hari Singh Nalwa. The current generation is even weaker than the the ones who had to deal with 1984, (back then there were at least a few with a warrior spirit, but now there’s much less).1 point

They're probably more aware of the non-Dharmic tourism opportunities, and they have more money so a lower threshold to go visit. I think we need to be careful using 'bhappa' as it is derogatory really . Maybe 'shehar-wale' or 'shehri' would be better ?1 point

To say that all religions can achieve mukhti or sachkhand is not correct. For example, Islam does not beilieve in reincarnation or joons (being born into different life forms like animals or humans) so how can they get mukhti/salvation? For semitic religions like judaism, islam and christianity they all believe in the coming of a messiah/imam and heaven. Salvation for them is heaven. Salvation in Islam is centered around judgement day. There is no concept of mukhti of birth and death like Gurmat. Sachkhand has been exclusibely mentioned in Gurbani only. For Sikhs Sachkhand is the highest destination. Dhan Guru Nanak Dev ji received Naam in Sachkhand from Akal Purakh as mentioned in bani of bhai Gurdas ji. It is this naam that is now given through Panj Piare in Amrit Sanchar. Through Naam and Shabad Guru alon with rehat one can reach SachKhand. It is important to understand salvation/heaven/final destination of different religions. The concept that all religions lead to same destination sound sweet to the ear but in reality has no basis. Regardless if we are to advance spiritually in Gurmat than it is vital that we are keeping rehat and taking laha (profit) from Gurbani by reciting and reading arths (meanings). If we ourselves become bhagats of Guru Nanak Dev ji these questions will become clearer. Rabb Rakhe1 point
