  1. Read the thread and look at the times of the posts - nothing was planned here. Where did you hear him blame Sikh Sangat? There were a only a handful of his supporters there. The ordinary Sangat in the Gurudwara wasn't bothered and his supporters didn't have any 'preparation'. The protest was peaceful except for a small skirmish at the end, and there were alot of Singhs inside the Gurudwara as well to deal with Darshan if he got that far. Any event he plans to hold needs maximum exposure so that people know about them, and they can be stopped. Most of the people posting in this thread aren't even in the UK, and if you weren't there, don't spread stories you aren't sure about.
  2. Cheers. There was someone who looked similar, standing just inside the Gurudwara door, wearing a suit and seemed to have influence over the other goonday.
  3. Who's the guy with the striped jumper in the first photo on page 1 of this thread? He (or someone who looks similar) was there trying to stop Singhs from going inside the Gurudwara door, but they got in anyway. It was mentioned that he was part of the ak-47 lot, so that's where the confusion comes from. Well done for joining the protest though.
  4. I doubt that story in the first link! At the time of Guru Sahib, none of the East African countires existed, let alone carry out trade.

Yes. For sound advice with a Sikh perspective, check out: http://sikhinspiredhealth.motionsforum.com/forum.htm
  6. There are thousands of white Sikhs, mostly in the US, but a few in the UK and Europe. Why do you want to become a Sikh? You need to learn more about it first. Yes, you have to wear a turban, and you will be given a new name when you take initiation. If you let us know what area you are in, you can be put in contact with other Sikhs, which is the best way to learn about Sikhism. Books and the internet are useful, but can also be very misleading. good luck in your journey!
  7. Depends on which type of engineering you want to read in Uni, but generally in the UK the best Universitities for Engineering are Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College, Southampton, Bristol, Warwick etc. In the US - MIT, etc Just do google searches, there are a number of surveys done every year - a popular one in the UK is the Times Good University Guide. Entry is very competitive and you need good grades in relevant subjects. The unis all have websites where you can find subject specific entry requirements.
  8. There are links on the website of the Canadian Postal Service.
  9. There is. Quite a few Israeli politicians are afraid of visiting the UK for this reason.
  10. If anyone knows someone like that, can you let me know as well, lol.
  11. Guru Sahib gave us the command to keep kesh, that's all that should matter. Who said you look better as a mona? Where will those people be when your last breath comes? Guru Ji's teachings will always be true and relevant, they are aadi, jugaadi and hosi. Furthermore, thousands of Sikhs have died for your right to keep Kesh, and accepted death rather than cut their Kesh. By cutting your kesh, you are saying that they fought and died for no reason. There are still real Sikhs around, you just need to look in the right place. If you are India, visit our traditional Taksals, Nihang Dals, Mahapursh etc. Go to historic Gurdwaras and find out what happened there. Change your Sangat and within a few days you won't want to cut your kesh anymore, and you'll stop the other stuff you do as well.
  12. We need to stay away from anything that feeds or increases kaam etc. This includes videos, photos, literature etc. Keep yourself busy doing other stuff - reading dharmic granths, listening to kirtan, doing paath etc.
  13. Marriage is by no means compulsory in Sikhi. If you don't want to, then don't. Good luck convincing your parents though!
  14. Gyani Balbir Singh Ji of Smethwick will know someone who can help you.
  15. What is it? Some guy taking the sangat for a ride.
  16. Nothing new, it's been going on for hundreds of years. Everyone wants to claim Guru Ji as their own, lol. Tell them to follow Guru Ji's teachings, if that was the case.
  17. -akaal- : that was from 4 years ago, and I think they made up. Just volunteer for whichever one you feel comfortable with. United Sikhs have helped fight a large number of legal cases for Sikhs and that costs a lot.
  18. Do you have a link to the article? They generally work in different fields, but both are good - just help out where you can. You can vounteer for both if you have the time.
  19. He's against all signs of religion - including our dastars, and believes that religion should only be practiced behind closed doors. Just because he's against Islam, don't think he supports Sikhs. The EDL is a racist party, I don't see how you can think otherwise.
  20. True, their Ithihas Katha is probably the best thing on Sikh Channel during the day.
