1. Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh i am posting a copy of the lecture delivered by a Gursikh Professor (UK) about Gurbani's advice for us. I managed to get hold of the lecture but unfortunately Gurbani Pankitiya were not displaying on my laptop, if you want the actucal lecture with Gurabni Tuka then please email, Please read as it will be a eye opener Kaal Chakra (Time) Only God is beyond time and space Namastawang Akale Namastawang Kripale Namo Sarb Kale Namo Sarb Dyale Namo Sarb Kale Namo Sarb Pale All move under Hukam of Akal In the Fear of God, the sun shines, and in the Fear of God, the moon reflects. ]Ang 464 They travel millions of miles, endlessly. Page 506 The planets and solar systems dance in the three qualities, as do those who bear love for You, Lord. The beings and creatures all dance, and the four sources of creation dance. ||5|| They alone dance, who are pleasing to You, and who, as Gurmukhs, embrace love for the Word of the Shabad. They are devotees, with the essence of spiritual wisdom, who obey the Hukam of His Command. ||6|| Guru ji in this Shabad further on says if you want to dance do it in front of the guru, give everything to Guru I dance, and make this mind dance as well. By Guru's Grace, I eliminate my self-conceit. One who keeps his consciousness focused on the Lord is liberated; he obtains the fruits of his desires. ||1|| So dance, O mind, before your Guru. If you dance according to the Guru's Will, you shall obtain peace, and in the end, the fear of death shall leave you. ||Pause|| ====== The seconds, minutes and hours, days, weeks and months, and the various seasons originate from the one sun; O Nanak, in just the same way, the many forms originate from the Creator. ||2||2|| 1. Gurbani mentions about months, weeks and days and further time but not about year. It is cyclic and has no end or beginning. Only set by man to mark the rotation of earth around Sun. 2. All times good, not only new year. No instance of new year in Sikhi but Sangrand and Massia etc. Dwelling with the humble Holy people, one finds peace, poise and tranquility. Blessed and auspicious is that time, when one meditates in remembrance on the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause|| ==== Without the True Guru, there is only pitch darkness. Only idiots and fools worry about these omens and days. So what is the hukam then, i.e., A Sikh lives in the present only.
(Bhai Gurdas Vaar 6, Pauri 14) The enlightened mind of the Sikhs drinks and digests the unbearable cup of the love of the Lord. Armed with the knowledge of the Brahm, they meditate upon the transcendental Brahm. Merging their consciousness in the Word-sabad, they recite the indescribable story of the Word-the Guru. They are competent to see incomprehensible pace of the past, present and future. Never deluding fruit of joy, the gurmukhs get, and with grace of the God, kind to devotees, they rather delude the evil propensities. They work as a boat in the world-ocean and ferry across the millions who follow one gurmukh, the Guru-oriented person. The altruist Sikhs always come up smiling. AMg 18 Vaar 18, Pauri 21 Gurmukh repudiates ego and he likes the will of God. Becoming humble and falling at the feet he becomes dust and earns honour in the court of the Lord. He always moves in the present i.e. never ignores the contemporary situations and side by side accepts whatever is likely to happen. Whatever is done by the creator of all the causes, is gratefully accepted by him. He remains happy in the will of the Lord and considers himself a guest in the world. He remains elated in the love of the Lord and goes sacrificed unto the feats of the creator. Living in the world he remains detached and liberated. ======= Three stages of life: If one has not meditated in any stage then whole life is a waste. Page 1428 Childhood, youth and old age - know these as the three stages of life. Says Nanak, without meditating on the Lord, everything is useless; you must appreciate this. ||35|| Guru ji says: remember God from the childhood. If childhood goes without Simran so do the youth and old age. No one knows when to die. If one dies in childhood he shall not see youth and if he dies in youth then he does not see old age. However, death is definite. Therefore start meditation in childhood or as soon as possible. AMg 254 Page 254 Pauree: GAGGA: Chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe with each and every breath; meditate on Him forever. How can you rely on the body? Do not delay, my friend; there is nothing to stand in Death's way - neither in childhood, nor in youth, nor in old age. Eh byrw nh bUJIAY jau Awie prY jm PMDu ] That time is not known, when the noose of Death shall come and fall on you. Why Simran with every breath? We live by breathing and if breathing stops we die. Thus we can only be sure of one-breath only and Guru ji advises us not waste even a single breath. We are human beings of the briefest moment; we do not know the appointed time of our departure. Prays Nanak, serve the One, to whom our soul and breath of life belong. ||1||Page 660 ----------- With each and every breath, he constantly remembers the Lord in meditation; not a single breath passes in vain. Page 556 ----------------- Therefore Simran is continuous and 24/7 job: Other than the Lord, no one can kill or rejuvenate. O mind, do not be anxious - remain fearless. While standing, sitting, and sleeping, forever and ever, meditate on the Lord's Name; O servant Nanak, as Gurmukh, you shall attain the Lord. ||21||1||Sudh||Page 594 ------------- If I forget the True Lord, even for an instant, that time passes in vain. With each and every breath, constantly remember the Lord; He Himself shall forgive you, according to His Will. ||9|| Page 506 ---------- Do not hesitate for an instant - meditate on the Lord, O my soul; who knows whether he shall draw another breath? Bihagarha m: 4, page 540 === (While walking and sitting, sleeping and waking, contemplate within your heart the GurMantra. Page 1006) == Give me that understanding, by which I may meditate on You. I sing Your Glorious Praises with each and every breath. Nanak takes the Support of the Guru's Feet. ||4||12||19|| Page 100 ======== With each and every breath, I meditate on the Lord's Name. Page 106 Guru ji say do not delay because death can come any time. Take example of farmer who sows a crop. Some of fields may be green, others just mature and others fully mature. A farmer does not harvest them together and bring to market. However, for fodder one cuts green maize, bajra and bring in cart or trolley in 2 months. He also brings half mature chickpea. Thus it depends on the farmer when to cut his crop. The crop can never say please don not cut me I am still immature. Guru ji also compared three stages of life with the crop. Do not think that all will die in old age. However, all must die in old age. All depends on His Hukam irrespective of age. Page 375 Aasaa, Fifth Mehl: Just like the farmer, He plants His crop, and, whether it is ripe or unripe, He cuts it down. ||1|| Just so, you must know this well, that whoever is born, shall die. Only the devotee of the Lord of the Universe becomes stable and permanent. ||1||Pause|| The day shall certainly be followed by the night. rYix geI iPir hoie prBwiq ]2] And when the night passes, the morning shall again dawn. ||2|| mwieAw moih soie rhy ABwgy ] In the love of Maya, the unfortunate ones remain in sleep. gur pRswid ko ivrlw jwgy ]3] By Guru's Grace, a rare few remain awake and aware. ||3|| khu nwnk gux gweIAih nIq ] Says Nanak, sing continually the Glorious Praises of the Lord. muK aUjl hoie inrml cIq ]4]19] Your face shall be radiant, and your consciousness shall be immaculately pure. ||4||19|| Guru Nanak has divided the three life stages into 10 parts. 1. The child only is concerned with milk 2. He adores his parents- he sleeps for 18 hour and gets up at night and takes milk and sleep and recognizes mother's hands. Looks at her face and recognizes her and also the father. Now if the mother does Bandagi it will have effect on the baby. 3. Then he recognizes his near relatives. 4. Now he understands only play. Gets toys. 5. Then baby develops taste for eatable 6. Now he is young and the sexual desire takes over. No Naam and no Simran. 7. When the parents see that he cannot hold and wandering they marry him. He now stays at home. 8. Now he has his own children but does not have much money. So he becomes angry day and night. The anger shows on his body but he does not do Simran. 9. The body starts deteriorating with anger and he enters old age and hair are white and he breaths with difficulty. 10. Lastly one dies and is burnt and becomes a packet of ash. In the end friends cry but the soul has already gone. Page 137 First Mehl: First, the baby loves mother's milk; second, he learns of his mother and father; third, his brothers, sisters-in-law and sisters; fourth, the love of play awakens. Fifth, he runs after food and drink; sixth, in his sexual desire, he does not respect social customs. Seventh, he gathers wealth and dwells in his house; eighth, he becomes angry, and his body is consumed. nwvY Dauly auBy swh ] Ninth, he turns grey, and his breathing becomes labored; tenth, he is cremated, and turns to ashes. His companions send him off, crying out and lamenting. The swan of the soul takes flight, and asks which way to go. He came and he went, and now, even his name has died. After he left, food was offered on leaves, and the birds were called to come and eat. nwnk mnmuiK AMDu ipAwru ] O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs love the darkness. bwJu gurU fubw sMswru ]2] Without the Guru, the world is drowning. ||2|| The Guru tells us how all three stages and 10 steps of life go waste in Visha Vikar without Naam Japna. Page 138 First Mehl: At the age of ten, he is a child; at twenty, a youth, and at thirty, he is called handsome. At forty, he is full of life; at fifty, his foot slips, and at sixty, old age is upon him. At seventy, he loses his intellect, and at eighty, he cannot perform his duties. At ninety, he lies in his bed, and he cannot understand his weakness. After seeking and searching for such a long time, O Nanak, I have seen that the world is just a mansion of smoke. ||3|| 10 years go in childhood and then he is young. In 30s he wants to be very handsome and he is fully mature in 40. In 50s his energy starts reducing. That is why guru ji advises us about the three stages: AMg 1428 Page 1428 bwl juAwnI Aru ibriD Puin qIin AvsQw jwin ] Childhood, youth and old age - know these as the three stages of life. khu nwnk hir Bjn ibnu ibrQw sB hI mwnu ]35] Says Nanak, without meditating on the Lord, everything is useless; you must appreciate this. ||35|| In childhood the mind is clean and writes anything. A young tree can be bent but an old tree cannot be bent. It will break. If the seed is disease free the tree will be healthy and will bear disease free fruit. The childhood is for sowing good seed. Sow such a seed which is ever green and your childhood, youth and old age become good. Page 1376 Kabeer, plant the seeds of such a plant, which shall bear fruit throughout the twelve months, with cooling shade and abundant fruit, upon which birds joyously play. ||229|| Sow seed in childhood that makes a good tree on which birds can come and stay. Naam is such a seed that when sown in childhood produces a good tree till death. It remains ever green. The young birds can come to it and get some shade and Naam Ras. Youth is just like a storm which does not care for obstacles. But when one is old he like a ended fair where there is nothing as all the cradles, games, shops, people go away. The left over is spread all over. (aujiVAw mylw) There are dry and dirty leaves. Those who have not meditated the bad deed (ivkwrW dIAW KjUrW p~k geIAW qy Sihd dIAW ndIAW vgdIAW hn) have matured like Dates from whom rivers of honey are flowing. Man thinks there is still time for Naam Japna. However, Baba ji say whatever day is passing it is taken out from your life. AMg 1382 Page 1382 Fareed, God's dates have ripened, and rivers of honey flow. With each passing day, your life is being stolen away. ||89|| There is no need to be sad. If childhood and youth have gone still there is a chance. Page 1378 Fareed, those who did not enjoy their Spouse when their hair was black - hardly any of them enjoy Him when their hair turns grey. So be in love with the Lord, so that your color may ever be new. ||12|| AMg 1378 Page 1378 mÚ 3 ] Third Mehl: Fareed, whether one's hair is black or grey, our Lord and Master is always here if one remembers Him. This loving devotion to the Lord does not come by one's own efforts, even though all may long for it. This cup of loving devotion belongs to our Lord and Master; He gives it to whomever He likes. ||13|| guru jI Drvws dyNdy hn [ AMg 659 ang 659 Page 659 Raag Sorat'h, The Word Of Devotee Bheekhan Jee: <> siqgur pRswid ] One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: Tears well up in my eyes, my body has become weak, and my hair has become milky-white. My throat is tight, and I cannot utter even one word; what can I do now? I am a mere mortal. ||1|| O Lord, my King, Gardener of the world-garden, be my Physician, and save me, Your Saint. ||1||Pause|| Introspection: 3. Education and leave trivial issues. Sponsor more scholarships for poor Sikhs. Support employment oriented courses. 4. Identity crisis: Kakars in India (travel with Kirpan overseas), outside in fight in European Parliament to be taken up-must encourage United Sikhs and Sikh Coalition. Identity crisis even in Punjab. Effects of RSS. Nanakshahi calendar should continue. We need to build pressure. Pressure to reduce attacks on Sikhs (Darshan Singh) 5. Alcohol in marriages: It is like dowry and demanded in marriages. Drug and Alcohol Programme (DAP) will name such persons on its website. British Medical Journal reports that South Asians suffer 4 times more death from failure of kidney due to alcohol. 80% of these are Sikhs. Punjab high in liquor consumption. 5.2 lakh bottles of liquor and 1.5 lakh bottles of beer daily consumption in Punjab =19.2 crore bottles per year. Significant increase in the last 3 years. Should have health warning and no to be sold to under 25. 6. Climate change and meat eating: Hilary Ben Health Secretary suggests reduce number of animals for eating and reduce temperature rise. Heart attacks can be decreased by 17% (18K people annually die) by vegetarianism. Environment is a serious issue. Sparrows decline in Punjab due to telephone towers. Vultures reduced. 7. Over-spending: social compulsions in marriages even in crunch. It leads to depression, suicide. Live simple life as per Gurbani. 8. Deteriorating health of Sikhs: During the recruitment of Territorial Army most Punjabi youth out of 4000 could not complete 1600 m race in specified 5 minutes. Haryanviess were better. Cause-drugs spoiled the youth, no physical exercise. 9. Emancipation of women: A 40 year old Gurdwara in Halifax in Canada elected all women management. We need to learn from it. There should be 50% representation of women in SGPC and other Gurdwaras. Why not kirtan and sewa by women in Harimander? 10. Heritage status for Amritsar: we should support it. 11. Social evils: dowry, divorce, unsolicited marriages for immigration, infanticide. Effect of western culture, e.g., Increase in Christmas day celebration rather than Shahidi Diwas. 12. Dera culture on the rise: Prachar campaign to increase awareness about Shabad Guru. Also awareness about Jantar Mantar and Jadu Tune, Mari-Samadhan worship. 13. Daswandh or Daan: . Think before donation. Politics in Gurdwaras. Life of Sewadars. Compare with original Sikhs. 14. Strengthen media: Sikh channel, newspapers with Sikhi bend, publications and Sikhi camps for new generation. Issues for Gurdwara 15. Simplify Langar: Reduce use of ghee but increase olive oil or other vegetable oils. 16. Prasad: Should be presented once in a day and should not be over-kept after heating. It can be a health issue. Use dry Prasad for the day. 17. Marriages: only for those who take simple langar after the ceremony; promise no drink or meat at least for the day. 18. Library: Along with the museum open a modern Library for the old people. 19. Discuss how can we help unsettled Punjabi immigrants in Spain and students in UK? To end AMg 1373 ang 1373 Page 1373 kbIr prBwqy qwry iKsih iqau iehu iKsY srIru ] Kabeer, just as the stars disappear at dawn, so shall this body disappear. ey duie AKr nw iKsih so gih rihE kbIru ]171] Only the letters of God's Name do not disappear; Kabeer holds these tight. ||171||
