  1. Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsaa! Vaheguroo Jee Ki Fatheh!

    Wow!

    Kathaa

    From what Bhai Sahib talks about in his Kathaa, these tukks refer to the comparison between a Gurmukh and those pakhandee fake people who have no pyaar for Sikhi or faith in Guroo Sahib, but at the same time, try and equal themselves to those Gurmukhs who have given their heads to Guroo Jee. These comparisons however, show that no matter how hard these pakhandees try, they can never match the calibre of a true Gurmukh.

    In the first tukk, the Gurmukh (one who mounts horses and handles guns) is compared to those (fakes) who play the game of polo. If these people are asked to mount horses and handle guns (just like in a battle to play the True game of love and ride the True Path) will they be able to do so?

    In the second tukk, Guru Sahib uses the example of a swan and a chicken. The flight of a swan (Gurmukh) is much higher and greater in distance compared to the flight of a chicken (fakes/pakhandees), which can only fly a short distance for a short amount of time. Even if a chicken made its greatest effort to fly like a swan, it wouldn't be able to do so. Similarly, as much as these fakes try to match the calibre of a Gurmukh, they will fail miserably, just like a chicken trying to match a swan. A swan would just totally leave behind the bechara chicken and not even bother to look back. :lol:

    Prof Sahib Singh, in his teeka refers to such people as a laughing stock (ਹਾਸੋ-ਹੀਣੇ).

    Bhul chukh maafi.

    Bhenji,

    If you have time, and if you havn't already done so please try and read:

    Amrit Ki Hain - by Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh Ji

    This hopefully will answer your questions. I've actually just read it again after seeing this post. Even for Amritdharis this book is a real eye opener!

    Maybe the 'bliss' that many of us experience and talk about is only a fraction of a fraction of the True Bliss that Bhai Sahib (in his book) and Gurbani talks about.

    There is also an extract from another one of Bhai Sahib's books about Amrit which is mind blowing! I will post it when I get a little time...

  5. Both the Prof. Sahib Singh and the Faridkoti Teeka translations do not mention anything about the word Meeran being a reference to Meera Bai. There is no direct reference in the Shabad of any incident in Meera Bai's life. If anything the use of Arabic and Persian terms seems to suggest that the Shabad was addressed to a Muslim audience rather than being an allusion to a devotee of Krishna. In light of this the term Meeran is possibly a plural of Meer or Lord used as a term of respect.

    Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsaa! Vaheguroo Jee Ki Fatheh!

    Just to add:

    Gurmukhi-Gurmukhi

Chieftain, leader

    Gurmukhi-English

Lord, master, king

    Hence:

O Chief! O Lord! O Master!

    Prof. Sahib Singh Ji's teeka for this tukk roughly translates to:

    O Chief! O Wise One! O Purifier of Hearts! O Forever-Firm King! O Releaser of bonds! Your love and affection is dwelling/dwells within my mind and heart.

    Bhul Chukh Maaf.

  6. well its nott about temp location its about satkar, wen maharaj is at sumones house its usualy for an akand paat, if the organisers had enough money to provide campers with nice rooms with bathrooms etc, they should of atleast thought of providing maharaj a sachkand, iam sure ther was a spare room ther for a sachkand seeming as the site was very nice site

    I am not as learned as some of you Singhs and Singhnia...

    but i believe that this whole world is a temporary location. I also believe that 99% of UK Gurdwaras fail when it comes to satkaar... have u seen the state of some of them? run down factories turned into Gurdwaras, damp walls, leaking ceilings, mould growing in the corners of darbaar, etc etc...

    point is, no matter how much satkaar u do, its never EVER enough when it comes to our Guru Jee... but come on guys... this is Guru Granth Sahib Jee... Guru Sahib doesnt moan or frown because the Sach Khand was a temporary abode. Guru Jee is happy being in the presence of sangat who worship him as lovingly as they do at all camps.

    No SACH KHAND here on earth is permanent... its ALL temporary. This whole world is. Lets concentrate on getting to our truue and permanent abodes.

    Please lets keep to the topic of sharing photos and other media from this years Khalsa Camp

    Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsaa! Vaheguroo Jee Ki Fatheh!

    I agree ! :D ^^^

    Sachkhand or not, for the two days that I was there, satkaar to Guroo Mahraaj was given to the utmost. I mean the Darbar Sahib just looked immaculate.

    Singh_bling Jee, I think it would be good if you contact KhalsaCamp with your queries and suggestions. I'm sure they will gladly reply.

    Guroo Rakhaa!

    Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsaa! Vaheguroo Jee Ki Fatheh!

  7. ^ Yeh. Or 'would I do it if I could see Guru Saheb next to me?'. He's always watching, but just because we can't see Him, we think He's not there.

    Sitargirl, read Gurbani, do ardas, pray for Guru Saheb's guidance. Other people might be doing crazy things, but as long as you keep plodding on your path there is no need to worry about them.

    Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsaa! Vaheguroo Jee Ki Fatheh!

    Agreed. ^^^

    The main thing at university is to stay focused on your studies and to just stay firm against all the temptations thrown in your direction. If nothing else, hide in the library! :D After spending so much time in a peaceful environment (even if it means just sitting there and not studying), the last thing on your mind will be to go clubbing.

  9. Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsaa! Vaheguroo Jee Ki Fatheh!

    After searching Mahan Kosh and looking at Prof. Sahib Singh's teeka, ਆਰਤਾ and ਆਰਤੀ are totally different.

    English - Hymn of praise, religious ceremony

    Gurmukhi - Gurmukhi - A form of worship in which lamps are lit at night; A form of worship where lamps are circulated in front of idols (Hindumat)

    ਆਰਤਾ/ਆਰਤ :- ਲੋੜਵੰਦਾ (need, want, necessity), ਦੁਖੀਆ (afflicted with pain, troubled, distressed), ਮੰਗਤਾ (Beggar, one who begs)

    Prof. Sahib Singh's annotations on this roughly translates to:

    O Lord, Nourisher of the World! I am a beggar at your door (please fulfil my needs). You take care of all the affairs/business of all those who do your Bhagti.

    Further notes on what Prof. Jee says:-

    ਆਰਤ is a sanskrit word meaning ਲੋੜਵੰਦਾ - need.

    From the Rahao tukk and from the rest of the Shabad, it's clear that everyday we ask for the things that we need and want in our lives. The use of the Shabd ਗੋਪਾਲ (ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ - nourisher/sustainer of this world) further exemplifies this, from whom we would naturally ask or beg from (just like how we ask or even sometimes beg for something from our parents who have nurtured us).

    Because of the similarity between ਆਰਤਾ and ਆਰਤੀ, this Shabad of Bhagat Dhannaa Jee has also been included with the other ਆਰਤੀ Shabads in Dhanasree Raag (starting on Pannaa 663 I think), otherwise there is no mention of 'Aarti' in this Shabad i.e. there is no mentioning of flowers, lamps and so forth which are required for Aarti.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The teeka also states that some people have written against this Shabad due to misinterpretations, but how can this be? Gurbani is perfect!

    I think the Rahao tukk is pretty clear in understanding this Shabad. Bhagat Dhanna Jee asks for all these things (flour, ghee, fine clothes, a cow and even a wife to take care of home), but in essence, Vaheguroo takes care of all the affairs of those who do His Bhagti, and so there is no need to beg for these things.

    If we are to beg, we should only beg from Vaheguroo only and no one else, as He is the only Giver in this world. Ultimately, we should beg for His Naam and the contemplation of His Bani...

    These are just my interpretations and are most likely wrong, so take whatever you see good...

    Beant bhulaa di khimaa.

  11. Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsaa! Vaheguroo Jee Ki Fatheh!!

    Below is an awesome Shabad that someone sent me whilst I was studying at University.

    Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:

    When you are confronted with terrible hardships, and no one offers you any support,

    when your friends turn into enemies, and even your relatives have deserted you,

    and when all support has given way, and all hope has been lost -

    if you then come to remember the Supreme Lord God, even the hot wind shall not touch you. ||1||

    Our Lord and Master is the Power of the powerless.

    He does not come or go; He is Eternal and Permanent. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is known as True. ||1||Pause||

    If you are weakened by the pains of hunger and poverty,

    with no money in your pockets, and no one will give you any comfort,

    and no one will satisfy your hopes and desires, and none of your works is accomplished -

    ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਓਸੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਾ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਰਾਜੁ ॥੨॥

    if you then come to remember the Supreme Lord God, you shall obtain the eternal kingdom. ||2||

    ਜਾ ਕਉ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਰੋਗੁ ॥

    When you are plagued by great and excessive anxiety, and diseases of the body;

    ਗ੍ਰਿਸਤਿ ਕੁਟੰਬਿ ਪਲੇਟਿਆ ਕਦੇ ਹਰਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਸੋਗੁ ॥

    when you are wrapped up in the attachments of household and family, sometimes feeling joy, and then other times sorrow;

    ਗਉਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਟ ਕਾ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

    when you are wandering around in all four directions, and you cannot sit or sleep even for a moment -

    ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਓਸੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥

    if you come to remember the Supreme Lord God, then your body and mind shall be cooled and soothed. ||3||

    ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਆ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਲੋਭਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

    When you are under the power of sexual desire, anger and worldly attachment, or a greedy miser in love with your wealth;

    ਚਾਰੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਉਨਿ ਅਘ ਕੀਏ ਹੋਆ ਅਸੁਰ ਸੰਘਾਰੁ ॥

    if you have committed the four great sins and other mistakes; even if you are a murderous fiend

    ਪੋਥੀ ਗੀਤ ਕਵਿਤ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਕਰਨਿ ਧਰਿਆ ॥

    who has never taken the time to listen to sacred books, hymns and poetry -

    ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਓਸੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਾ ਨਿਮਖ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਤਰਿਆ ॥੪॥

    if you then come to remember the Supreme Lord God, and contemplate Him, even for a moment, you shall be saved. ||4||

    ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਚਾਰਿ ਮੁਖਾਗਰ ਬਿਚਰੇ ॥

    People may recite by heart the Shaastras, the Simritees and the four Vedas;

    ਤਪੇ ਤਪੀਸਰ ਜੋਗੀਆ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਗਵਨੁ ਕਰੇ ॥

    they may be ascetics, great, self-disciplined Yogis; they may visit sacred shrines of pilgrimage

    ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੁਗੁਣੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਨਾਇ ॥

    and perform the six ceremonial rituals, over and over again, performing worship services and ritual bathings.

    ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਗੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਤਾ ਸਰਪਰ ਨਰਕੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥

    Even so, if they have not embraced love for the Supreme Lord God, then they shall surely go to hell. ||5||

    ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲਕ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੀਆ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਣ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥

    You may possess empires, vast estates, authority over others, and the enjoyment of myriad of pleasures;

    ਬਾਗ ਸੁਹਾਵੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਲੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਅਫਾਰ ॥

    you may have delightful and beautiful gardens, and issue unquestioned commands;

    ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧੀ ਚਾਇ ਲਗਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥

    you may have enjoyments and entertainments of all sorts and kinds, and continue to enjoy exciting pleasures -

    ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਾ ਸਰਪ ਕੀ ਜੂਨਿ ਗਇਆ ॥੬॥

    and yet, if you do not come to remember the Supreme Lord God, you shall be reincarnated as a snake. ||6||

    ਬਹੁਤੁ ਧਨਾਢਿ ਅਚਾਰਵੰਤੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥

    You may possess vast riches, maintain virtuous conduct, have a spotless reputation and observe religious customs;

    ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਭਾਈਆ ਸਾਜਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥

    you may have the loving affections of mother, father, children, siblings and friends;

    ਲਸਕਰ ਤਰਕਸਬੰਦ ਬੰਦ ਜੀਉ ਜੀਉ ਸਗਲੀ ਕੀਤ ॥

    you may have armies well-equipped with weapons, and all may salute you with respect;

    ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਾ ਖੜਿ ਰਸਾਤਲਿ ਦੀਤ ॥੭॥

    But still, if you do not come to remember the Supreme Lord God, then you shall be taken and consigned to the most hideous hell! ||7||

    ਕਾਇਆ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਛਿਦ੍ਰੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਾੜਾ ਸੋਗੁ ॥

    You may have a body free of disease and deformity, and have no worries or grief at all;

    ਮਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਆਵੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭੋਗੈ ਭੋਗੁ ॥

    you may be unmindful of death, and night and day revel in pleasures;

    ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਇ ਨ ਸੰਕ ਧਰਿਆ ॥

    you may take everything as your own, and have no fear in your mind at all;

    ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਵਸਿ ਪਰਿਆ ॥੮॥

    but still, if you do not come to remember the Supreme Lord God, you shall fall under the power of the Messenger of Death. ||8||

    ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ॥

    The Supreme Lord showers His Mercy, and we find the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

    ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਓਹੁ ਵਧਾਈਐ ਤਿਉ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ॥

    The more time we spend there, the more we come to love the Lord.

    ਦੁਹਾ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਕਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਆਪਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਥਾਉ ॥

    The Lord is the Master of both worlds; there is no other place of rest.

    ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੁਠੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੯॥੧॥੨੬॥

    When the True Guru is pleased and satisfied, O Nanak, the True Name is obtained. ||9||1||26||

    Never heard from them....not even a reply .....

    the DVD'd are sold out.(got to know after reading from tapoban forum)

    As a CONSUMER, dass finds such situation Frustrating and Annoying .Dass waited for a reply for atleast A MONTH.

    after a month waiting, read on tapoban that the DVD's are sold out.

    thats the reason , Dass said they are MISLEADING the sangat by having the SHOP section on their website. saying the DVD's are available, when the fact is they are not.

    dass so wanted to get my hand on lecture by bhai surjit singh...chalo was not in my karma. :)

    Chatrik Jee,

    Did you actually purchase the DVDs and your saying you haven’t received them, or did you contact KhalsaCamp about some query you had they never replied to that?

    The recordings will be available on this year's DVD box set, which will hopefully be out soon.

  14. Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsaa! Vaheguroo Jee Ki Fatheh!

    According to Prof. Sahib Singh's Teeka, ਨਿਦਾਨ in this context is given as ਓੜਕ ਨੂੰ. If you further do a search on ਓੜਕ using the dictionary facility on Srigranth.org, this translates to ਅਖ਼ੀਰ or ਅੰਤ literally meaning 'in the end' or 'at last'. The annotation for this tukk is given as:

    ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਜਦੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਹਾਰੇ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਣ, ਤਾਂ) ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।੩।

    With the very little understanding Guru Sahib has bestowed in my mind, this translates to:

    O mind! Whatever support/guidance you may seek, it will all finish/come to an end eventually as anything else in this world. In the end, God will be our only Saviour.

    If my interpretations and understanding are out of line, please do correct them!!!. Like Bhenji has said, English translations can be misleading and only really give the surface meaning. This is just one tukk, and we're like a million lifetimes behind!!!!!

    Bhul chukh maaf.

    Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsaa! Vaheguroo Jee Ki Fatheh!

  15. hahahaha, well where the ego thing came from was:

    alot of us where on the coach ready to go go-karting, but the driver didnt know where he was going he took us to the wrong place 2 times!!! and we all looked at the time and it was like 4, and we had to be back for 5.30, which sort of annoyed us. So then came these chants hahaha

    'Drivers got???? EEEEEEEEEEEEEGGGGGGGOOOOOOOO '

    ' DONT GET ANGRY DRIVER '

    ' discover the? SPIRIT WITHIN '

    there were quite a few, it was funny. When we finished go karting and were walking back onto the coach, should have seen the drivers face hahahaha he hated us.

    And the prontha competition was funny aswell , i was sat next to the winner, without my support he wouldnt have won. If i didnt come late i would have obviously won tongue.gif but still i had about 6.

    I doubt the khalsa camp dvd will be out anytime soon because last year they said it will be out by february time and they just about got 50 made by khalsa camp time.

    Some pictures, recordings, and videos will be going up on www.sikhroots.com soon

    Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsaa! Vaheguroo Jee Ki Fatheh!

    The DVD box set for this year's KhalsaCamp will hopefully be out sooner (much sooner) then they were for last year's camp...
