  1. "If you argue otherwise you are going against Gurmat."

I love this line above all = aparrent get out of any reasonable debate.

Now while i disagree with infromthevoids point of view he debates it rationally and logically, whereas the replies are lacking.

Sikhi for me is a personal understanding of SGGS for me it might mean one thing for you another. Xtremesinghs reply is only valid if he is a brahmgiani or can prove an understanding which is deeper than the rest of us seeing as he alone is able to condemn people as manmukh/gurmukh

To say that it is okay for a female to remove facial hair, is CLEARLY contrary to Gurmat. It is not acceptable for a man, so the same applies to a woman. I am not trying to get out of a debate. It is black and white.

I said that removing Kesh is a Bujjar Kurehit and that all Sikhs should keep their hair- what is wrong with that?

And not once did I condemn someone as a Gurmukh / Manmukh.

  2. I respect and support Sikh women either way. What you call a Kurahit is a man made artificial rule that only has meaning because you think it does. I don't argue for one side or the other, only for tolerance and understanding.

Hair is not a "gift from God," it is a product of our having adapted to our environment through human evolution. How much or how little you happen to have is just a matter of your genetics. That society at present commonly considers excess hair on women to be unfeminine or odd is just the way it happens to be at the moment. That doesn't make it right or wrong. I totally admire and respect women who are so empowered as to be able to themselves proclaim to the world exactly what "feminine" is, meaning EXACTLY what they are! And set THE trend. I love it. I think it makes the world a better place.

But I also do not look down or judge a woman who does not wish to have a mustache or beard and decides remove it. Not even a little. A woman's femininity belongs to her, and is not really my business.

As a man, if somehow growing a beard made many people you encountered assume you were effeminate, you might begin to understand.

The 4 Kurehits are quite clear: no meat, no relations with anyone other than your spouse, no meat and no removing kesh. These are not "man made artificial rules,". An amrithdari women that removes facial hair has commited a Bujjar Kurehit. It can't be justified because all other women in the world do the same thing.

Rehit does not change because we live in a modern world, it stays the same. Its not about femininity, the same rules apply to man and woman. It is not acceptable for a man to remove facial hair, similarly its not acceptable for women to remove hair, whether it is on their face or on their arms etc.

If you argue otherwise you are going against Gurmat.

  3. Don't miss the forest for the trees. People get too obsessed - on one side or the other - with these issues, and miss the good stuff. When Guru Gobind Singh created the Khalsa and gave them the symbols of warriors and ascetics, I don't think he was intending us to get silly about it. It's the spirit and mindset that is what it is about, THAT is what is truly important, the symbols are auxiliary to that. I really find it difficult to believe that part of his intention was that Sikh women should have beards and mustaches.

So then you think its acceptable for Sikh women to remove facial hair and commit a Kurehit?

  4. in my opinion the education system is corrupt therefore if you cheated - its no big deal. panj pyare have more improtant things to deal with. if your conscience is really bugging you... do sewa, aardas then take hukamnama... after this follow your instincts.

i wouldnt feel sorry for people who did the work themselves.... good for them.

also congrats on completing your degree!

So 2 wrongs make a right?

  5. Tie it however it feels comfortable, but make sure you can easily pull the lar at the top to the side to leave your dastar open at the top.

Practice tying it in advance, it depends also on what type of dastar you tie.

Also important to remember to make it easy to open up the top laar of your keski too.

  6. But its for people to know what happens in an amritsanchar Bhull chuk maaf

Taking Amrit is something you experience. You can use a million words or videos to show whats happening, but nothing will come close to describing the feeling of taking Amrit and receiving Naam from Guru Sahib. As Kaljugi said, lets keep some things off YouTube.

Moreover, if you are in an amrit sanchar, you are either there because you are doing seva or you are taking amrit/ pesh. Either way, the least of your concerns should be about filming it.

  7. i was in a similar position a few months ago, my dad didnt want me to take amrit either. just keep asking him for his permission, and keep telling him how much you want to take it. tell him there is an amrit sanchar coming up in february and you really want to take it and u feel ready for it.

i would advise not to take it against your dads will, for now anyway. keep asking about february amrit sanchar (there are a couple) and see what he says.

it took me about 6 months to get my dad to say yes lol

  8. WHEN YOU FORSAKE THE PURATAN MARYADA AND ADOPT SOMETHING ELSE WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS ACTUALLY ADOPTING A MARYADA AND PUTTING THIS INTO PLACE

Take for example the Maryada of Akhand Paat Sahib. The proper rehat is for 25 Singh to participate, but we have forsaken this without a doubt. What are we left with, the modern Rehat

    1) People who are not even having ishnaan after going to the toilet.

    2) No knowledge of Gurbani. No Shud Ucharan

    3) Moneh Sikhs participating

    4) Women participating (though this may be allowed, personally i wouldn't allow it)

    5) Paatis flipping pages

    6) No ability to read Larivaar Saroop

    7) People participating whilst wearing trousers and socks

    8) People not wearing a hazuria.

Now take a look at the puratan maryada of langar - Sarbloh vessels, Langreah Singh no one can cook. Only Amritdaree's allowed into kitchen etc etc. But what is the new maryada

    1) Shoe's allowed

    2) You don't have to cover your head

    3) You don't have to follow Akal Takhat Hukamnamas and so partake Langar on table and chairs

    4) Moneh can prepare langar

    5) Moneh can distribute Langar

    6) Anyone can freely enter the kitchen to do whatever they please

    7) Complety no actions to presevrve Sucham and not allow Jhoot in the Langar

agree with everything you said apart from the highlighted one.

  9. A bunga (keski tied into kes) can be small too, in fact I personally find that alot of times bungas tend to be more firm when they are smaller.

Use mal mal material as this sticks to the head more than the thicker material and is lighter so its much less likely to come off. I've messed about with mates, like wrestling, headlocks and stuff and my dastar has stayed on (a full dumalla with a bunga underneath).

Just tie what bhai amolak singh ties in this video. He ties his keski into his kes (a bunga), then another keski on top of that. It's small aswell. But make sure that if you are not going to tie any more material over this that the external keski you tie on top of the bunga has atleast five wraps/5 yards around the head (maryada). In the video below, the second keski bhai amaolak singh ties is smaller than that as he is going to tie a full dumalla over it. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Veerji where does this maryada come from? Is it from a rehatnama? i might need to get a few more longer keskis if this is a requirement lol

  10. I'm just asking about the logic behind it. Who made up this rule?

You made a previous post and then edited it. I might aswell reply to that too...

removing ur kirpan for flying is not wrong as you are not doing it because of lack of rehit or laziness.

I fly on aeroplanes to get from one place to another, not to use it as an excuse to take off my kirpan. As long as you do an ardas asking for forgiveness then there is nothing wrong with it.

    the "rule" is a rehat.

go to the 18th or 19th min of the video

    and watch that.

this argument is going around in circles, this shall be my last post here.

  11. its not a matter of not being able to survive without food...the question is why? What is the point of it? Is it to lessen our guilt of not wearing a kirpan?

in mornings, we do not eat without first doing nitnem, similarly we should not eat without our panj kakars on. If you feel so strongly about it, and dont see the point then by all means eat whenever you want.

    its discussed further here:
