  1. No need. Only if she wants. This has happened before she meets her husband. I don't know about you, but I would hate to be judged by someone for a mistake I made before I even met them...
  2. Naad is the universal sound current (or frequency) which permeates creation. Narad Muni ji is the son of Brahma. He is forever doing hari kirtan, and never stays in one place for too long.
  3. Gatka really doesn't. Honestly, there is no depth to it. To even call it a "martial art" is innacurate.
  4. I was once a student of his for a few years. Unfortunately for me, my life took a different turn and I could no longer commit to training. Would have loved to carry on though. One thing that was really awesome about him is that you could literally ask him any question regarding ideology, and he'd answer it fully. Now, you may not necessarily agree with it, but he clearly laid out his reasoning, evidence and logic, which I greatly respected ??. The thing with rumors and keyboard warriors is that, they are exactly that, and nothing more. I've always encouraged all the naysayers that, if you have an issue, go up to him and ask. It really is that simple. That's what I always did. The akhara does not "follow" anyone. It teaches anyone who respects the vidiya and will not misuse it. It is completely free from politics. Again, this is something which Gurdev Nidar Singh Ji has cleared up many times, but people still don't get it... Finally, even if you disagree with the ideology, the vidiya is proper authentic. The irony is, when he taught our community, we did not appreciate it, we vilified him completely. And now, he teaches it all over the world to many martial artists who all attest to it's greatness and authenticity, and our people still have a problem ("you're teaching non-Sikgs" etc.). Lost opportunity... Incidentally, the respect and approval Shastar Vidiya has received from the martial arts community is infinitely greater than that of gatka..
  5. I've seen that, as time goes on, people are seeing gatka for what it really is, an exhibitionist art, nothing more. This is in no way shape or form the vidiya used by the Khalsa. Shastar Vidiya is our traditional Sikh/Khalsa/Kshatriya/Hindustani/Bharati battlefield art. Currently, only Nidar Singh Nihang teaches this, though there are a few old babas left who could attest to Nidar Singh ji's vidiya.
  6. Of course there is benefit to anything. But I suppose it really depends on what you want to learn. If you want to learn something exhibitionist and display type, then by all means go for gatka. But if you want to learn a deadly fighting art, then best to look elsewhere. in the end, rather do gatka than nothing, geez if nothing else you'll get some exercise. But in this case, as the OP seems to want to learn a proper martial art, do anything (kendo) rather than gatka.
  7. Gatka is more for display, not a serious martial art by any standard. These sorts of "display arts" can be found all over the India subcontinent (and middle East). And i did gatka for about a year (always had interest in martial arts) Baaki it depends on what's available to you. If kendo is available to you, go for it.

    Any gursikh girls?

    Bump. Anyone here tried it?
  11. In terms of who is currently in their place, that's up for debate, so I won't go in to that. However, yes, a brahmgyani can help even without a sareer. Sant Baba Waryam Singh Ji once said that, if you are unsure about whether someone is a brahmgyani or not, don't worry. But we do know that Guru Granth Sahib Ji is supreme! All powers of saints come from Guru ji, and all brahmgyan/brahmgyanis are contained within Guru Granth Sahib Ji. So bow to Guru Ji.
  12. Panth/mazhab is a different concept to dharma, but they're not mutually exclusive. And indeed, Sikhi has been referred to as both (Sikh dharam, Khalsa panth, Teesar Panth, Teesar Mazhab Khalsa). But I suppose, that's a different topic...

    Any gursikh girls?

Here's an idea. Would you guys like a matrimonial thread pinned in the Gupt section of this forum? You can post a little about yourself and what you're looking for (you'd have to make an account). Andd that way, if anyone is interested, they can send you a message. @ADMIN - waddaya think?

    Any gursikh girls?

I feel like I'm becoming a veteran at these topics ?! Firstly bro, please do make an account. Secondly, please don't post your number on a public forum. Thirdly, need a lot more criteria than that. I'm in a similar boat to you, though I'm a year older. It's indeed hard, but hopefully the sangat here can make recommendations (once you make an account of course ?). *cough* *cough* @ADMIN , time for matrimonial section? *cough* *cough* ?
  19. Jab miyaa biwi raazi To kya karega kaazi This is the mentality this generation has adopted unfortunately. You could try talking to him again, but without criticising her.
  20. Awesome advice for us all bhaji ??. Thank you kindly ??.
  21. And just as a side note, please can someone correct the spelling mistake in title topic. "Loh" means "iron", whereas "loth" means "corpse". It's obviously a typo, but a bit of an eyesore. Dhanvad ji ?
  22. Bhaji, in the example that I gave , shastar (miri) has been placed at the same level as Guru Gobind Singh Ji (piri). I completely agree that all Granths are inseparable from our Panth, as indeed we all do. However, i think where we differ slightly is the "level" of respect. Bhaji, let me give you another example: we all have a Nitnem Gutka at home. There are Baani from both Aad and Dasam Guru Darbar contained within. Taking your logic in to account, would we then need 2 gutkas? One for the baanis from Aad, and one for the baanis of Dasam? Then we can do prakash of both Gutkas at different levels. But then what do we do about Rehraas sahib ji, which is a mixture of both Aad and Dasam Baani? How will you split that out (God forbid)? I'd like to think that most would agree what I'm suggesting in the above example(s) is madness. But then that's the road we end up on when we use your logic. Gurbani is Gurbani, whether from Aad, Dasam or Sarbloh Guru Darbar. Hope that clears things up ji??
  23. As a guy who is currently searching, whenever I begin a dialogue with a girl, I always ask this question, whether or not she wants to move out straight away. If she wants to stay within the family for a year or two, and then move out, that's cool. But if she says she wants to move out straight away, then I don't go forward with that. Now, what to do in the beginning is a long topic on it's own, but that's different, as you're already in a relationship looking to get married, so this will need to be handled differently. An uncle of mine once made the point (don't know how serious he was) that you can have 10 men living under the same roof with no problem, but not 2 women ?! I found it funny, though i hope he was joking. But in your case, you could start by asking what her apprehensions are? Assure her that she'll get her privacy etc. You made a good point about being in a better position financially. When I bought my own house, it was indeed a long and hard process. So you're probably going to need to stay within your family anyways for some time. Finally, remind her that, however she treats her parents and parent in laws, her kids and children in law will do exactly the same. If she had a son and some girl wanted him to move out straight away after marriage, would she like it? When I put this point in front of people, it usually stumps them, as it exposes their hypocrisy. In any case bro, talk it out, find out what her issues are, and help alleviate them. I'm sure you can reach a compromise. Good luck ??
  24. OK, using that same logic; Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj used to do shastar prakash at the same level (and sometimes higher) as where they would sit. Tell me brother, in all fairness and practicality, how many instances have you seen where there is a shastar prakash at the same level or even higher than Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji? I'm not saying never, but it's close enough. And going one step further, if we say the Khalsa is the Guru, will we ever see the Khalsa (panj pyare, sangat, or whatever form you deem the "Khalsa" to be) sit at the same level as Guru Sahib? You see where it starts to get tricky? If you believe the baani of Dasve Paatshah is any "less" than that of Aad Guru Darbar, then you open up a can of worms for the Panth and put yourself on a road with leads to people like Inder Singh Ghagga, Prof Darshan Singh, Neki etc. The point I'm eluding to (which I probably wasn't clear on) is that there is no difference between the three. Aad Guru Darbar is the Guru, period. And whilst no one is debating that, The Guru Panth (Akali Nihang Singh Khalsa) and all the traditional Sampardas of the Panth (Udasi, Nirmale, Seva Panthi etc.) give the baani of Guru Gobind Singh ji the same equal respect and veneration. The concepts of "questioning" this has only come up during late 1800s and early 1900s (thanks to the British).
