3. and r there any other pothis? (pran sangli) I have come across 4 in my reading. 1. goindwal pothi - i only have this one 2. guru harsahai pothi 3. ahiyarpur pothi 4. pothi harjas are these the 4 pothis that mcauliffe wrote about, or did he write about 5? if not, what are they and where can i find these pothis published in their complete form? ive come accross damdama sahib pothi, kartarpur pothi, patna pothi, and amritsar pothi. Ive have assumed that these are the full aad granth. am i right? I have also come across "MS 1245" manuscript 1245, amongst many other manuscripts. does anyone know anything about this how many are they? and what about the folios of pinjore being less in number than the ahiyarpur pothi which has 300 folios. i look for full bani of these pothis. so far, i have the book "an extant of the goindwal pothis". this book has it in complete form. it shortens the bani in SGGS and gives the other bani from people such as gulam sadasevak, sheikh sharif etc etc.. so i have this. WHAT about the others? and, ratan singh bhangu mentions 6 or 7 pothis that made up SGGS. WHAT and WHERE are these? other pothis like pran sangli, i have this as well (was not incuded in SGGS as per gur pratap suraj granth). if anyone can help me, it is much appreciated. Ultimately, i want all the pothis that have been used, and rejected from SGGS. Ive been asked to put together a proposal of sorts. any help would be appreciated. thanks Gurfateh >a good read.. http://www.<banned site filter activated>/Scriptures/ahiyapur/ahiyapur%20pothi.htm <

8. I need help in finding the apocryphal bani called - raj nama - kakar vichar - bihangam ban ive looked in the cummingham book on 340, its in english (below) anyone have a punjabi source or is it just in the janam sakhis? which janam sakhi? i have naseehat nama and karni nama, hazarnama etc... i am stuck on where to find these three. thanks APPENDIX XX THE ADMONITORY LETTERS OF NANAK TO THE FABULOUS MONARCH KARUN; AND THE PRESCRIPTIVE LETTERS OF GOBIND FOR THE GUIDANCE OF THE SIKHS. Note.—Two letters to Karun are attributed to Nanak. The first is styled the 'Nasihat Nama', or Letter of Admonition and Advice. The second is styled simply the 'Reply of Nanak', and professes to be spoken. Karun may possibly be a corruption of Harun, the 'Harun el Rashid' of European and Asiatic fame. Both compositions are of course fabulous as regards Nanak, and appear to be the compositions of the commencement or middle of the last century. The two letters of Gobind are termed the 'Rabat Nama' and the 'Tankha Narria', or the Letter of Rules and the Letter of Fines respectively; and while they are adapted for general guidance, they profess to have been drawn up in reply to questions put by individuals, or for the satisfaction of particular inquirers. There is no evidence that they were composed by Gobind himself; but they may be held to represent his views and the principles of Sikhism. 1. The Nasihat Nama of Nanak, or the Letter to Karun, the Mighty Prince, possessing forty Capital Cities replenished with Treasure. (Extracts from.) Alone man comes, alone he goes. When he departs naught .will avail him (or bear him witness) . When the reckoning is taken, what answer will he give ? If then only he repents, he shall be punished. Karun paid no devotions; he kept not faith : The world exclaimed he ruled not justly. He was called a Ruler, but he governed not well. For the pleasures of the world ensnared him. He plundered the earth : hell-fire shall torment him. Man should do good, so that he be not ashamed. Repent—and oppress jiot. Otherwise hell-fire shall seize thee, even in the grave. Holy men. Prophets, Shahs, and Khans, The mark of not one remaineth in the world; For man is but as the passing shade of the flying bird. Thou rejoicest in thy Forty Treasures, See, oh people ! Karun utterly confounded. Nanak ! pray unto God, and seek God as thy refuge. 2. The Reply of Nanak to Karun, the Lord of Medina. First, Nanak went to Mecca; Medina he afterwards visited. The lord of Mecca and Medina, Karun, he made his disciple. When Nanak was about to depart, Karun, the fortunate, thus spoke : Now thou art about to go. But when wilt thou return? Then the Guru thus answered : When I put on my tenth dress 1 shall be called Gobind Singh; Then shall all Singhs wear their hair; They shall accept the 'Pahal' of the two-edged dagger Then shall the sect of the Khalsa be established: Then shall men exclaim, 'Victory, O Guru !' The four races shall become 6ne and the same; The five weapons shall be worn by all. In the Kalyug they shall array themselves in vestments of blue; The name of the Khalsa shall be everywhere. In the time of Aurangzeb The wondrous Khalsa shall arise. Then shall battles be waged, Endless war shall ensue. And fighting shall follow year after year. They shall place the name of Gobind Singh in their hearts; Many heads shall be rendered up, And the empire of the Khalsa shall prevail. First, the Punjab shall become the land of the Sikhs; Then other countries shall be theirs; Hindustan and the North shall be possessed by them; Then the West shall bow to them. When they enter Khorasan, Kabul and Kandahar shall lie low. When Iran ^ has been laid prostrate, Mecca shall be beheld, And Medina shall be seized. Mighty shall be the rejoicing. And all shall exclaim, 'Hail, Guru !' Unbelievers shall everywhere be destroyed; The holy Khalsa shall be exalted; Beasts, and birds, and creeping things, shall tremble (in the presence of the Lord) . Men and women shall everywhere call on God. The earth, the ocean, and the heavens, shall call on God. By calling on the Guru shall men be blessed. Every faith shall become of the Khalsa; No other religion will remain. 'Wah Guru' shall everywhere be repeated. And Pain and Trouble shall depart. In the Kalyug shall the Kingdom be established Which Nanak received from the Lord. Worthless, I fall before God; Nanak, the slave, cannot comprehend the ways of the Lord.
9. ok, so where could i find them? bala JS? or which JS? im looking for specifically the raj nama
10. yes but is it in the sau sakhi as everyone claims! ive sent a link on page 1 of this thread, is it the same sau sakhi?? if so, y is there no karni nama and raj nama in there??? thanks. i am basically lookig for the bani of karni nama (besides the one in beant bania da sundar gutka_, and THE RAJ NAMA (NON ENGLISH). if anyone can help, please do. i cannot find it online.
11. HI, so ive found a pdf of sau sakhi, but no raj nama or karni nama in there! is it just that i cant see it and its actually in there, or is it not?? http://www.globalsikhstudies.net/pdf/sau%20sakhi.pdf
12. their basis for questioning dasam bani is always flawed. letters etc have stated and listed guru G's bani from bhai mani singh to mata G. so if you think dasam granth can be questioned, please think again. and again. and yes, guru g wrote bani, lots of it. and which bani are you talkin about when you say "open you doors.." ? dasam bani?
13. well, i've found the bani and it mentions guru nanak dev ji's travels to srilanka and raja shiv nabh in a dohra. it also mentions paintees akhri. it also mentions daya singh as well a few times. i have not found where this bani is from tho. re bhramanik mentality, in the "pooranmashi katha", it mentions q few times to keep varat on puranmashi. this is a blatant anti gurmat statement made again and again. people may say, bhookhe bhagat na keejai, but, we can understand the varat to mean, the daan to god i.e. meditate. Sarbloh granth says "jathasakat daan >bhookai< kahu; padpankaj mehe leena" meaning, keep giving daan to god till you have the strength to, (even if you are starving); be leen in the true padpankaj. so surely, we could see the varat as this daan, (to then carry this daan forward into our lives to practice). however, personally, i find this 'bani' to be not bani of maharaj. but, i sure do see significance as a supporting piece that talks about niceness. this is my view on it anyway. there are plenty of kavitas out there, y not this one as well.. thnaks fateh!

Naam Dhirr

Sure it is josh. I agree with that. But what should be josh, soon turns into hype over anything. Thats not the meaning of naam. The confusion comes from people who dont know what they're doing going on about getting drirta and feeling josh. I'd say to them, ever heard of trying to anhad vuj your feelings and cone to unison with urself?.. to me, thats the true drirta. And apologies! !!! Hajoori of **GURU GRANTH SAhIB**!!!.. was a typo saying hajoori of punj.

Naam Dhirr

"naam drir" is commercialized now! naam can only be given by your guru or wherever guru is prakash! which is why amrit sunchaar is always done in the hajoori of punj piyaare. naam drir comes after viraag stage. a true traveller, has naam "drirta"! if someone shouts at you, your heart shudders! that aint no drir matie! same goes with " naam drir" wrt akjs. i myself go to plenty of rensabais and have no qualms with any way anyone wishes to "jup naam". the rolling of the tongue is commercialized! what about feet. heartbeat. hair. its not all about the "drirrrr". naam is god himself and not just sounds, feelings and words. ultimately, drirta can only be given when naam goes anhad, and this is done by guru's kirpa. not if u take amrit from specific places !. so the point of " who dishes out naam drir " is literally invalid!. apologies if my frustrations on this came across as harsh.. dhan guru sada.
16. Does anyone have these in its full works? G S Mann does have all of them, however, does if come as a pothi? Can anybody please help me with the full text of the goindwal pothi banis? (complete with gulam sadasevak etc) thanks to anyone who can help me. gurfateh!
17. thanks for that, i will defo look into it. i take it you dont know the other shabad that singh ji refferd to in the book? i personally, only thought that it was the rahao and first two pauris that singh ji was talking about. in case i an mistaken, i post and ask if there is another shabad by bhagat soor das ji that was taken out of SGGS. i know there are 2 granths attributed to bhagat soor das; sur sagar granth (supposed to be >100,000 bhajans but now i think < 8000), sur saravali (creation story with focus of krishna), and sahaitya-lahiri (devotional bhajans). so i am in no shortage of bhajans! i wish to know if there is another shabad attributed to bhagat soor das ji other than chad har bimukhan ko sang. thanks jioz gurfateh!
18. do you know anything about this bani? if so, please share. so i may too realise this to be as you have. if not, try and find out for me.. (?) if youre not interested, dont post! regarding anti gurmat, whats your take on "sri bhavani lachmi ji sahaee" then its not for us to say what is or isnt in accordance to gurmat. only guru can. we are blind till our Guru shows us. and since you mention metric, "tis ki mit kaun bhakhano" : P hey, on another note, i was also wondering do you have the 2 saloks attributed to guru nanak dev ji at the end of the bhai banno bir? i have them, but its a job splitting the words. if you do, please send.
19. mere vir ji, thank you for that. I do however know that information, and i have the file, and read it. I am asking if there is another shabad to bhagat soor das ji that was not included. the "chad mun har bimukhan ko sang" is the start of the shabad (more correct if we say 'bhajan') of surdas ji. in this bhajan, there is a rahao line, and 2 pauris. prof sahib singh mentions in "about compilation of SGGS" that Dr SS Kholi says on page 119 of his book that bhagat soor das ji composed 2 shabads. i am wondering whether the "2 shabads" reffered to by Kholi are the 2 pauris of bhagat soor das ji, or is there actually another whole shabad composed by soor das ji that was ommited?? many thanks
20. there are 2 shabads of bhagat soor das; i am guessing this is the first shabad, what is the second shabad? thanks
21. people say its out there, i want to know about it. simple. your sarcasm is not appreciated. only post if you want to add to the discussion. not poke your finger in it like the above. thanks.
22. http://srec.gurmat.info/srecpublications/aboutcompilationofsrigurugranthsahib/chapter10/
23. thts ok. but its not bani. its not in the damdama sahib bir or kartarpuri bir. it is in the bhai banno bir. only the first line of bhagat soor das was accepted for sggs. the rest of the shabad is largely believed to have been rejected by guru arjun dev ji; and guru arjun dev ji gave the uttar to soordas bani in their shabad 1253 ang in sggs. the second shabad is the meera bai shabad. this was wholely taken out. this alont with naseehatnama, sansarnama, ratanmala (attributed to guru nank dev ji) was also taken out by guru arjun dev ji because it is again largely believed that bhai banno added these banis. i believe this, however i also find plausibility in saying, the 6 words of bhagat soordas was the begining of the shabad, and the kavi left space for the rest of the shabad, but didnt fill it in. implying that he was supposed to. but then guru arjun dev ji gave the uttar anyway in the following shabad. and then added bhagat kabir ji shabad har bin kaun sahaee mun ka. all on ang 1253. so, it is not bani. but it is, i believe, very useful to know and have. thats why i look for it bhagat soor das bani. and i have found thatits in a granth written by soor das called sur sagar granth. soor das wrote 3 works. this is one of them. i am looking for this. i dont mind if its in hindi or what have you... if anyone has this, please, send it my ways. thansk gurfateh
