  1. in raag sarang, there is one line of bhagat soor das. Does anyone have the rest of the shabad that was not included in sggs? the gurmukhi version??? all i have is this >> Bhagat soordas ful shabad Cbbad man bar bimukban ko sang. Kaha bhayio pai pan piyaye, bikh nahi tajat bbuyang. Rahao. Kagan ka kapoor chugaye, suan nuyae gang. Khar to kaha agar ko tepan, market bhookhan ang.1. pahan patit ban bedbeari, reete hoye nikbang, soor das ki kali kamri, charhat na dooja rang.2. << ive attached a foto of meera bai bani at the end of raag maru as well. thanks harsimran
  2. free will comes under dubida (double mindedness). wherever there is duality, there is the illusion of free will. and this is less than 1%. depending on the level of thinking and avastha of an individual, they will have different understandings of the entire play of god. so.. 1. we are not destined to go to heaven or hell. - this is true. our deeds govern this. 2. we are all destined to go to God. - this is also true, this is the ultimate reality. our ultimate endpoint is to merge back into God, even if we have to go through hell to get to this stage. but we all will. naam simran gets us above duality and towards aekta. (ekta). oneness. thats all free will is.
  3. there is a bani called pooranmashi katha by guru gobind singh ji. Where can i find this bani? thanks.
  4. Didnt guru teg bahadur sahib reply and correct guru gobind singh gz reply? And so this is the reason that we read it as "bal hoa" and not "bal huuo.." ; and "sankat mittae and not "sankat chuté". So after guru gobind singh g sent these replies or 'explanations' from guru teg bahadur testing them, guru teg bahadur sahib corrected 11 y o guru gobind singh g and this is what we read.
  5. ^^ this above link is broken!! could this be reposted?? thanks
  6. anything that the guru speaks is gurmukhi, even if its punjabi, farsi, pashto arabic etc.. thanks gurfateh!
  7. yes and no i dont know how to square something that is already in front of me. i always take myself out of the equation so to speak, so. things are what they are. I'm amritdhari too i believe science to be an extension of our senses. we would not lock ourselves in a room and hope for the best if need be; we would grab that talvaar and fight. or.. we would not close our eyes just because we dont agree with it. but, ive recently found the teachings of guru nanak dev ji in science. so, the same conclusions can be arrived at, excising religion from the "equation". so.. just look at the reptilian, emotional, and thinking brain. these explain the teachings of guru ji from the 5 choor to meditation. so far, obviously science has not come to full grounds on the idea of god. but this could be soon enough. also i dont agree with the earlier post where it was said that "...therefore a creator must be the reason for existence." in many ways, i am an atheist. but i follow my guru. my guru tells me to see for myself. and so, this is the path of sikhi. i want to see. so i try. results.. are contested and still stand strong as of yet! ive posted scientific meditation papers recently on here on a topic called "in need of an expert" or something. good read. thanks
  8. Im a Pharmaceutical scientist, Medicinal chemist and an inhalation scientist currently trying to stabilise micronised material. BSc, MSc, MPhill i know about basic particle physics and neuroscience. - one of my projects looked at Alzheimer's and dementia with MAO enzyme. be more than happy to contribute to your endeavours. ive written PDFs on sikhi too
  9. So far as i see it, its like this. the silent witness is the EGO as per above post. merging with god, is a complex process. the idea of going through "sunn" (means literally "the void"), you cant have any ego or witness whatsoever if you come out the other end of this state. most people confuse union with god for something else in their travels because they havent truly let go of themselves. people travel to sunn, and they think that is it. then they talk about the witness etc. but the very act of thinking (activation of self/ego) should tell you that thats not the end. people believe they reach the void and feel amazing after and think thats it. sunn has levels. inside, outside, and all of existence. then the fourth sunn is outside of existence. this is still the journey towards heaven let alone through heaven and the process of union with god. so the silent witness is where there is nothing, that is sunn. if u still sense self, then ur still inside existence (although this can be both inside and outside of time). you cant equate these concepts with Christianity or more to the point, Evangelism. yes, there is an underlying state to all of existance and religions have sought to see this, but you cant therefore say this XYZ concept, such as silent witness, is true. in that case, if u do say its true, then anyone can say everything is true, which is also correct. union with god can only be done when there is nothing of yourself left. "ub tuhi mai naahi" in SGGS. so union of god with silent witness is not true. there is only guru and god (formless). its a long journey to the union with god. self-realisation is the closest to silent witness you will get to a comparison. but this is only the beginning to the journey. god is formless so surely if we are to become him, we must shead a hell of alot too in the process! god is complete. this is y we dont cut hair and etc. to be complete in every way possible. physically, mentally emotionally, and also attain spiritual completeness. vanity etc all fall away and a more god concious self emerges. mediation does this, meditation finishes yourself, meditation gives you union with god. thanks
  10. Guru G paatshah guru nanak went to a place where they saw ritualistic practice. they said (just as they say with all the other ritual practices) stop doing pakhand. so the aarti shabad was recited. Lets go trough it. Gagan mehe thaal – the clouds are the thaal Rav chand Deepak bane – the sun and moon (actual jort and reflective jort) are made; all meaning that the stars are the jort Tartika mandal janak moti – the stars the clouds janak (understand them to be) moti (here moti – jewls in the sky basically) Dhoop malaanlo – dhoop os dhoof which is incense; malaanlo is ‘nice smell’ ( I see it to be from the word ’malan’ to rub – to make ur self small nice in old days. Pavan chavaru kare – the wind is the chaur sahib that does... (that does the wafting of the nice smells) Sagal banrae – all of existence Foolant joti – flowers and jort. (i.e. the wind >solar wind and nebulae as well as on earth<, so i.e. the wind is the chaur sahib that ‘does’ ‘(kar) aka flys over all of existence) Then tone changes (drop line).. {rahao line} Kaisee aarti hoae – what aarti are you doing; or what aarti can we do (both types of translations are equally valid) Bhav khandana teri aarti – killing fear (within ourselves is the true aarti (aka becoming god. “bhae te nirbhau paaeeye..” Anhatta shabad baajant bheri – getting the shabad inside us and to give it such a baj (resonate with ourselves) that it becomes bheri. Deep. Then again tone changes. shs tev nain etc etc.>> this is how zero and infinity are two opposites of the same thing. Two sides of the same coin. (Ive done a (non-sikhi) pdf on this). ... EV chalet mohi – this is how the cookie crumbles. This is how it goes down. This is the chalan of God. aka, unfathomable. (because first, how can anything have (infinite) thousands of eyes, then, no eyes at the same time. (“shs” got no aunkar on the end so its plural thats y it sez thousands and not “1 thousand”). Then maharaj says this jort which is so amazing (cuz by now the guy who guru g is telling is “mind=blown” di gal) is in everyone (again a mind bending concept for the guy, aka us) Then gur sakhi jort pargat hoae – go to guru’s sakhi, aka hukam razaaee (pathway) chalna [then keti (kitne hor) chootee naal (naal chootee milee)] (how sakhi means hukam u have to go through a few understandings – see if u can do it J ) soooo..... go to gurus sakhi, then that amazing jort will become pargat. Jo tis bhaave whosoever ‘does’ you (aka goes towards you); but not just go towards, “bhaavai” with bhaav aka love aka bhaao. So aarti hoe. Then When the people heard this katha from Guru nanak paatsha they started to do aarti how guru nanaak dev ji said. And they became nihaal. Next, after going to guru, and tasting that sweetness har charan kamal - gods lotus feet MAKARAND! – amrit; flowers, petals; (trust me, see this word) Lobhit mano – my mun wants it (because youre attached to it (just like in shskriti, peevatang sant na tripiyate – sant never get tripat after drinking the amrit) Andino mohe aaee piyasa – forever I'm piyasa (fish without water); and piaasa of moh, attachment to the world (-> so give me the saarang jal) Kripa jal de nanak sarang kao - >>so after they taste it once, they want that kirpa again and again, so this is the ardas – bless us with saarang jal Hoae ja te terai naae vasa – that it if happens, I will be in you naam. (because its just happened to this sangat that guru naanak dev ji came across. So this pauri can also be seen to transform patit to pavan, from kach to kanchan. Akin to philosophers stone in gurbani etc etc.. Maharaj guru naanak dev ji is rub da saroop. Obviously they would bless these people who didn’t know what they were doing and didn’t know how to do aarti. Just imagine.. what that aarti must have been like. With guru nanak ved ji there. Dhan dhan Dhan dhan Dhan Dhan guru nanak dev jio maharaj J Gurfateh!
  11. thank you so much!! i forgot the purana and uve just found it for me agian! thank you dhan!
  12. bhagat kabir ji said that your cloathes are the whitest, and nose the sharpest, and blackest of eyes. these are traits of beauty. it is an attempt to describe god, in a way that we (bhagat kabir ji) see best. in another place in guru maharaj, guru raam daas say, Awpy swvl suMdrw ipAwrw Awpy vMsu vjwhw ] aapae saaval sundharaa piaaraa aapae vans vajaahaa | The Beloved Himself is the blue-skinned, handsome one; He Himself plays on His flute. kuvlIAw pIVu Awip mrwiedw ipAwrw kir bwlk rUip pcwhw ]2] kuvaleeaa peerr aap maraaeidhaa piaaraa kar baalak roop pachaahaa |2| The Beloved Himself took the form of a child, and destroyed Kuwalia-peer, the mad elephant. ||2|| question can be that is god of skin? and blue?(-Krishna) these are the wrong questions because that is not the aim of the bani. so.. context matters here. context is .. beauty. just as from bhagat kabir. some more... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. qyry bMky loiex dMq rIswlw ] thaerae bankae loein dhanth reesaalaa | Your eyes are so beautiful, and Your teeth are delightful. sohxy nk ijn lµmVy vwlw ] sohanae nak jin lanmarrae vaalaa | Your nose is so graceful, and Your hair is so long. kMcn kwieAw suieny kI Fwlw ] kanchan kaaeiaa sueinae kee taalaa | Your body is so precious, cast in gold. sovMn Fwlw ik®sn mwlw jphu qusI shylIho ] sovann taalaa kirasan maalaa japahu thusee sehaeleeho | His body is cast in gold, and He wears Krishna's mala; meditate on Him, O sisters. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. so, this is where we get aarti. shs pd ibml nn eyk pd gMD ibnu shs qv gMD iev clq mohI ]2] sehas padh bimal nan eaek padh gandh bin sehas thav gandh eiv chalath mohee |2| You have thousands of Lotus Feet, and yet You do not have even one foot. You have no nose, but you have thousands of noses. This Play of Yours entrances me. ||2|| its not about noses or eyes or feet or anything.. its about love and beauty. it can be said, if you see god in a stone, the very thing we walk on, then you have got it. just to add about aarti. people say that aarti states flowers are not to be done because of "...sagal banaraae foolant jotee".. this is wrong. people knock the thaal and the jort etc because they say guru g went and saw all this and done khandan of it. this is wrong. they done khandan of pakhand dharmiz. maharaj says pavan chavarau karhe. then "sagal banaraae foolant jotee" . do we forget about the chaur sahib?? is chaur sahib pakhand too?! should we stop chaur sahib too?! along with flowers and jort etc etc and thaal etc etc?!.. to finish off fear is the true aarti. lets not forget this. we must be carefull in reading bani. we must read it with love else its all munmat. just like when poeple say sagal banaraae foolant jotee means there are loads of flowers such as the jort and etc. >>>> Bani is only seemingly contradictory. there is an underlying oneness to it. we will see that. with love. from love comes everything. understanding.. naam. shakti. and god himself. hope this helps Ji-O. 14. heya matie, sat siri akaal I'm a british born sikh doing a pharma phd in uk, brought up as a devout Sikh along with my own Sikh studies research, and I'd be happy to answer. the silent witness is one, though many say there are two. there is a phrase in siri gur granth sahib (the sikh Living Guru; erroneously called the sikh scripture even though it is scripture as well). the phrase "chit( r ) gupat" aka chitra-gupta. most translate this to mean, two entities (can be assumed to be angels) sitting on each shoulder of a person (man or woman), taking note of all the deeds and actions that the person does, and then, presents it to "dharam-raaj". just to define terms, dharamraaj literally means, "dominion over creation" aka, the guy on the big chair who weighs out your good and bad deeds. (as a side note, a sikh does not aim to go to heaven, but go through heaven and merge with God, the undying light. 'gupat' means "that which is unseen" and chit( r ) has an image of "anything to do with the mind" and can also mean "embodiment". so chitar gupat is taken to mean the silent witness. >>so bacisally chitar gupat means thoughts actions, and deeds etc are all recorded whether you know or not. So, all in all, chitar gupat means "the play that the person cannot see". when we die, all of our deeds are lain out in front of us. so the silent witness, the chitar gupt, is a practical metaphore to describe that all we do/think etc, is written down. this then creates karam. now, im sure you've heard of the word karma and quite simply, this word is an adaptation of the word karam. karam is anything you sow, that's what u'll reap. situations are created from good and bad karam. so the deeds that are 'written down' get turned into karam, which must be completed. karam must be completed. and the way in the sikh dharam (sikhism) that this is achieved, is by two ways. either you go through the situation, or you meditate. these are the two ways karam are finished. (i mention karam because the deeds that are recorded by "chatar gupat", are called lekha (literally means writings) and is basically turned into karam). so, we should not do bad, and not expect reward when doing good. in this way, we get out of the birth life and death cycle that is akin to bhuddism (who say the cycle of life is eternal - opposite to sikhs as sikhs believe meditation is the way out). so, we get out of this cycle, and aim to get through all the 'infinite' levels of heaven, to merge back into God. in guru granth sahib, it says "...as water merges with water, and as the soul merges with the "One-Soul" ..." (forgive this poor translation as a substitute for the gurmukhi (scripture language)). also, imagine we do a deed, (defined as 100% deed). a bad deed. we meditate. it washes that bad deed. fine. kool. but. we only can wash up until 10% of that deed. that last 10% we must pay for so theres no two ways about that. however, if we are to merge into god, imbued in 'gods awesome power', then thats the only way we bypass 'serving the sentence' so to speak. if we do a good deed, then the 'good grace' we get from that, is infinitely multiplied depending on how much we meditate. (sikhs also believe in choice. we are not destined to go to heaven or hell, which is where choice comes into play. but choice is also an illusion too) ok so recap. all our deeds are recorded and played back to us after we die when we are in the court (aptly named as the place is akin to a court) of dharamraaj (the guy with the scales to weigh out deeds and asign karam). sikhs meditate to wash their sins, not only from this life but from previous lives too. in doing so, our karam gets to zero. once it gets to zero, we are none of dharamraaj's buisness. meaning, dharamraaj lets us paas because dharamraaj only deals with deeds. so to finish off deeds is the goal of a sikh. then, ultimately, we merge back into god. sikhs believe, this status is attainable >>>>in >> this >life. sikhs do not wait to die to attain salvation. it is in this human form that we are given choice. and given the vibration of god, called naam, aka meditation. (i have scientific papers that state meditation affects you on a cellular level, ill send u them. its a nice study). so we meditate, and excel until we finish with that undying light. formless.. self existent etc etc.. so truly, sikhs dont look at the "deed" game. we only look (or should look) to God. selfless service and meditation. i hope this has helped and i hope i havent given too much info or over complicated it. any other questions, id be happy to answer them. thanks Sim waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh
  15. you may as well say, that the pangti "dekhan ayo jagat tamasa" means "ive only come to see the crap in the world (and not change it)". take this outta context too bro. LearN that our guru nanak paatshah said "hau gur poochau" by your logic, you will say on this pankti, "guru nanak dev ji cant be guru because they asked guru" - again, outta context viewpoint. and our panjme paatsha said !nirgun neech anaath apradhi..." by your logic you will take this out of context too. your answer is not the same as gurus answer. so i dont know what answer you mean to say we get in the "next line". "dhur ki bani aaee" and "ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਗਤਿ ਕਹਾ ਸੋ ਕਹਿ ਹੋਂ " is this same thing!!!!!! u saying "ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਨੇ ਕੇ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ , ਓਹੀ ਲਿਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ" doesn't add any value to what you say and doesn't statement any more true!!!! if you read it properly and not take it outta context, guru g is saying "do not bow to me like these <pandits etc> that call themselves god. !!"""" guru G urges us to understand God to be God. BUT!!!! "JIN JAATA SO TIS HI JEHA".. u cant say guru gobind singh ji, the one who braught the punj piyaare back to life after beheadding them, didnt understand God.!!! if u cant understand this, y do you post what other people have researched? y not do your own research jio.. just read bani and u will understand it!. then do santhia and then make up your own mind.. ill show you so many places that are taken out of context. this is just one about the well known like "jo hum ko" it serves better to learn and reflect. we are not here to so called 'spread the word' thats guru Gs job! if the person doesn't want to understand then Apologies if i come across too stern but u cant just regurgitate what others have said,! Fateh
  16. There are loads of recordings of sant sujan singh. But only at later dates.
  17. regarding contradictions, there are none in gurbani hence, none in sikhi. many quote sargun and nirgun. whereas guru G says nirgun aap, sargun bhi ohi. in one line, something that looks like its contradictory. there are only few that understand these things. and fewer that understand the play of god. this is not because you cannot understand it, its because individuals ask questions like, whats the point of it all, existance, whereas maharaj is the one who created it. ask maharaj. people don like this answer to their question, and then, they fall away from sikhi. when in fact, thats the only real answer. the rest will come from humans and be subject to duality, therefore speculation. there is no contradictions, only one truth. people dont want to sit there and do self reflection, they just want quick fix answers just so they know it, but dont do it. so.. it sounds to me that these people that ask why too much, are less about the actual spiritual journey, and more about proving their own points and mind set. when in actual fact, you should be sorting out your own problems in your own mind rather than airing them in the open to get somone else to fix them for you. it will never work. you must walk the path to truth. you must read bani to understand it. not from a critical point of view, but from a devotional point of view. only then it is possible to find answers to questions like, y make seemingly pointless lifeforms... evolution of the soul is what is happening throughout life. any life form that is a "banda" (so called person), is only known as a banda if they jup naam. else, they are not a banda. this is what maharaj sez. people limit their understanding of the universe and beyond, because they refuse to take steps forward of moving away from themselves, and towards 'one' truth. somone asked once, "whats the point of the vichorra from god? i.e. creation.?" the answer was, "so we can all merge back into god again". the journey is whats importent. its where time is, where karam is, where charusi is, where everything that god created, is. the only consistency is naam. this is y we jup it. .
  18. goo one! nice thought. there exists change in the world though..? so... this means that in place of dinosaurs, some other new form of life springs. and this means dinosaurs can indeed be extinct! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:
  19. you say evolution is not part of sikhism because if we believe in evolution, we cant believe that god created humans and animals "BOTH". this is a creationist argument. maharaj says jo tis paya so eka vaar. this is conservation of energy. god put everything in this universe one time. the rest is gods khed (play). evolution IZ a part of that play. the change is what god's hukam is. the change is the creation and destruction. maharaj says, sache te pavana bhaeya. pavanai te jul hoi jul te trebhavan sajya ghat ghat jort samoee nirmal maila na theeai sabad rete pat hoi. this means from god himself, came the air, from the air came 'liquid' from this water came all that exists, and the light of god is infused in this. god doesnt get affected by this, meditating on god, you achieve amazingness. from the big bang, came the air. (sikhs believe from god, through the void, came this air). what is this air? long story short (quantum, to supergravity, to plasma, to hydrogen), the air is hydrogen. from this, this condensed and made gas clouds to form (liquid) stars then eventually, long story short, oxygen also came.the hydroggen and oxygen then again came together to form water. we say we are born of stars (from the liquid came all that exists) and from water came evolution. us. there are loads of more tuks from guru maharaj. sunn k-la aparangpar dhaari .... (ang 1037) this explains the existance of the world in amazing depth. once you see it, your eyes will be opened. paun paani sunnai te saajai.. all came from the void. before we take a stance of being against evolution, and effectively what our own partakh guru says, lets look at the facts friends. gurfateh.
  20. did he know that photos of them exist? because, most people say that baba ji didnt want any nishani or anything built in their name.. so.. in that same humility, it may be more likely for his followers to say there is no nishani of baba nand singh ji. photos are a nishani of sort.
  21. does anyone know of anyone or anything of an actual voice recording or video long or short, anything of baba nand singh ji? or any videos of sant sujaan singh where baba nand singh ji is shaamal (present)? if so, please please inbox me or post here. there are fotos of them ive seen. and what amazing fotos they are. if there's a recording, the world will be indebted to it. thanks gurfateh
  22. its an indication that palsy has something to do with a split in brain functionality. well, thats what i believe anyway. because he had lots of things to worry about, it could be possible that his linerity of thought became split. perhaps!!!!!>>> it could be because he created gurdwara in guru gobind singh jiz name, after guru g said whoever creates a thaan in my name they will loose everything etc.. fateh
  23. so i was looking at fotos of maharaja ranjeet singh, and i came accross this foto. I thought, mm.. it looks like an old foto.. it must be a greater chance that this is what maharaja ranjeet singh looked like.. then i notices the eye.. it looks like half of their face was droopy, aka palsy'd. could it be that they had it? may seem like a silly question, but any thoughts on this topic would be appreciated. or even why was the foto painted with there eye like that!>! akaal ! gurfateh
  24. As a debate topic from the perspective of gurbani, I think this question is a pretty good one. I say, the intent behind the duplicitous nature of the act is what matters. Its all about having a shudh hirda. So for e.g.. . Ridai shudh jo ninda hoae hanre kapre nindak dhoae. Thanks. Gurfateh
