  1. Even the western society has this figured out, "Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise". I'm kinda like you, I have a real tough time waking up in the morning and because of that I'm late for work almost every day! Start eating healthy, go to bed early, that's all there is to it. It's not that hard, but only if people like me could stick to it for more than a week

  3. http://www.cic.gc.ca...ts/marriage.asp

As part of this commitment, sponsors must support their spouse or partner for three years, even if the relationship fails. If the couple breaks up and the sponsored person gets social assistance, the sponsor must pay back the amount of social assistance the former spouse received. Given the legal obligations, sponsorship should not be taken lightly, and everyone is responsible for ensuring that their marriage is genuine.

I have heard that the time limit has been greatly increased, however I have not been able to find any official source that supports this claim.

  4. you simply can't ignore gurmat sangeet and the fact that raags are used in the composition of Ilaahi Gurbaani.

But if you don't know raag and such, you're left to the choices of "don't do keertan at all" or "do it without the blessing of the raag in which it was originally composed"... certainly you should choose the latter

that doesn't mean it's a free pass to ignore what the original method was. It means for now... start trying to learn it, but in the interim, do what you need to do.

    Well said :)

If Gurbani Santhya is imperative then why is Kirtan Santhya not? If there is only one way to read Gurbani, then how can there be multiple ways to do kirtan of that very Gurbani? As it has been mentioned already, Dhan Satguru Sahib Shri Guru Arjan Sahib Jee, in their infinite wisdom have organized our Shabad Guru based on Raags, then there has to be some importance there! Every single thing Guru Sahib did and spoke had a HUGE message behind it. We can't just choose to ignore it just because WE THINK it's only the bani that is important....It is reasoning like this that is the root cause of us loosing traditional Sikh gems such as shaster vidya, let's not add Gurmat Raag to the list.

I should also add that as per Bhai Avtaar Singh Jee, there is a difference between Gurmat Raags and Indian Classical Raags.

  5. I'm going to quote a friend of mine here:

its pretty obvious that the poster has a thing for the person's number. from a sikhi point of view, forget about it [the person] altogether. from a stalker point of view, why the hell would you tell them what you've done? it worked dammit, go ahead with the next phase of the plan :p

Now before someone makes a big deal out of this, it was said as a joke, just thought I'd put some humour in the thread.

On a serious note, it's easy for someone like me who is not in such a situation to go ahead and ask OP to forget about this person. However, in reality it is not this simple and easy. Try your best to keep busy (with sports, studies etc), do good positive sangat and and most importantly stay close to Gurbani. Don't beat yourself too much for it, it's a phase that 99% of people go through at some point in their life. Your time is now, you will come out of this phase a stronger person. So relax, take it 1 day at a time. Guru Rakha :)

  6. Gurmukh as defined by Bhai Gurdaas Jee

Getting up at the ambrosial hour of morning the Sikhs bathe in the river.

By putting their mind in the unfathomable God through deep concentration, they remember Guru, the God by reciting Japu (Ji).

Getting fully activated then they go to join the holy congregation of the saints.

Becoming absorbed in remembering and loving the sabad they sing and hear the Guru's hymns.

They love to spend their time in meditation, service and fear of God and they serve the Gum by observing his anniversaries.

They sing the Sodar in the evening and heartily associate with one another.

Having recited the Sohila and made supplication at night they distribute sacred food (prasad).

Thus gurmukhs gladly taste the fruit of happiness.

As I replied to AmarjitKaur in a PM earlier, if Baba Deep Singh Jee and Baba Budha Jee was enough when Guru Sahib were in human form, then there is no need for the word Sant or bhramgyani today. We must remember that Baba Budha Jee was said to be the limit of Sikhi by Dhan Guru Hargobind Sahib Jee.

  8. if u r not making your life accoding to Gurbani so chant slow or fast..laga matra or without it...That all regardless.

plz don't run after the style of saying Gurbani...run after the Gian and what actuaaly Bani saying.it make sence

Perhaps you should read some Sikh history, which makes is absolutely clear that pronunciation of Gurbani is of utmost importance.
And a final note tawla and shanees, vajas and any other instrument being played during Gurbani kirtan /naam simran should be of low tone, and Gurbani ucharna and naam simran of high tone.
:) I think by low tone you mean low in volume...
  9. This naam jaap will be based on SEHEJ process (First day, intro about sehej simran, how to do it)

What exactly is the Sehaj process?

The word sehaj literary means with ease, slow etc...

I would say this is a good idea for those who are not blessed with (personal) Sangat. For others, there is no substitute for personal Sangat :)
