  4. Wow what a name. Absolutely love the pic. I agree BMI is not good for bodybuilders as muscle weighs more than fat and so when they stand on scales they seem to weigh alot but its all muscle! For this boy BMI is close to accurate. Also I just read the other posts about exercising on empty stomach etc. In all honestly I would ignore alot of things people say to you and even if things are on the internet it doesn't mean its true. Personally just stick to the maths. When I first went gym people always gave me such conflicting advice. I did end up trying a bit of everything until I settled into my own routine. Common misunderstandings people have is that you shouldn't eat, actually you should eat but not a proper full meal. Another thing people get wrong is trying to push themselves. If you want to loose fat then you need to do what is known as aerobic exercise. So you don't run as fast as you can, instead have a steady pace so blood can comfortably be brought from fatty tissues. Another thing is knowing how far you can push yourself without getting injured. By far the biggest mistake I have made is to push myself beyond my limits. If your body is feeling exhausted then give yourself a day off to relax otherwise your damaging it. I was told by my friend that I should exercise until I can no longer do anything else....I did this....I left the gym barely able to walk to the door and for a whole week afterwards my abs hurt so much that I couldn't sleep, couldn't open a jar etc. It was really embarassing and it wasn't worth it as I had to take a week off when I could have got more done in smaller chunks rather than an all or nothing binge. Since that day I only do to a certain level and build things up slowly.... Another of my friends pulled their triceps when doing push ups with weights on their back....luckily I have not had such a bad injury but my tip is to listen to your body....something that I read that even the AC Milan lab are now trying to do with all the football players. Also if you do go gym try to vary your equipment. Running on a treadmill is really bad for knees as the pressure point is constant, whereas outside its healthier as it changes and is more natural...so definately go outside over gym as alot of the equipment is artifical. The thing I wish I was told when I was starting out was that how you should educate yourself on the limitations of whatever equipment you choose to train on. eg treadmill bad for knees, rowing bad for back, chest press bad for back etc. There is nothing you can do about it but try to minimise it via proper technique. Also the other thing I wish I knew about was friction, I used to do rowing every day at 30-40mph and I got very bad callous formation at the base of my fingers....I then had to stop for a a good 2 months until it healed and now I wear gloves...but if I knew I could have worn tape of gloves right from the start. There are lots of other little things I learnt through trial and error. Your probably not going to do body building but there are things for body builders which are not worth it, eg protein shakes bad for kidney, steroids are bad too. The thing is all these extra measures do work but actually only add 10% and the 90% is from your work...So its not worth it unless your entering competitions where the 10% would make a difference but for normal people like us its not worth it. I actually tried protein shake and personally I don't think it worked other than making my urine smell weird, I would never try steroids. Anyways I think these are the main things you need to know, everything else can be worked out...also starting out is going to be tough but get into a routine, stick to it and you will be fine.
  5. In all honesty a normal couple with no fertility issues has a 25% chance of having a child which decreases with age. So no guarantee for anyone. About the marriage thing, you need to be realistic....yoiu could meet an amazing guy who does not care or you might meet someone who would leave you over it. It all just depends on the person. There are options. If its something like PCOS, you can have clomifene to induce ovlation and you could try IVF. If you actually do not have ovaries then its a bit difficult but you could try having donor egg or surrogacy or adoption. Nobody can predict the future so make the most out of every situation!
  6. To the original poster. I can help you. Firstly you need to tell me how old you are. If your under 18 then I advise you to wait. If your over 18 then calculate your ideal body weight. To do this measure your height and read across this graph here (http://headwhispers.com/wp2/images/BMI.gif) to work out you ideal bodyweight. This is my secret of weight body loss which you will not find on internet sites as they all want to make money by selling you some diet. What you actually have to do is simple. You find out your ideal bodyweight and apply simple mathematical calculation. To do this you need to know some basics. The approximations are 1kg = 2.2 pounds of fat or 1 pound of fat = 0.45kg. half a pound of fat = 0.22kg 1 pound of fat contains 3500 calories. half a pound of fat = 1750 calories. Now don't think you can loose everything suddenly because 1. its dangerous 2. You will get saggy skin and then need plastic surgery. 3. You need to loose it slowly so your body has time to remodel. The amount I would recommend you to loose would be half a pound a week. So this is about 0.22kg. You need to eat properly. Most people think you should cut down on food when thats really bad for you because your body will think their is a faminine and so slow down and it will be harder to loose weight. SO eat properly and as sikhs we do eat healthy (we are vegetarian) so no need to stop eating roti swap dhal etc. Only thing worth not eating is chocolate and crisps But eat breakfast, eat at break time, eat at lunch, eat at dinner and have a snack before bed (I have milk). Don't cut down on food at all! And don't completely cut out things like margarine as our body needs some fat to function. So anyways now that we know how much you need to loose you can start calculating things. So lets pretend your height is 5 foot 7. Then your ideal body weight (upper range on chart) is 70kg. You weigh 80kg. This means you need to loose 10kg. If you loose half a pound of fat per week then your loosing 0.22kg. To loose half a poung of fat per week you need to burn 1750 calories then you need to burn 1750/7 = 250 calories per day. (which is about half an hour running on the treadmill or if you don't have money or a gym then just run outside at a pace of 8mph for 30-45 mins every day). Now you know what to do, but to make sure it working you need to monitor yourself. I would measure your waist and hip in cm as its more accurate than weighing yourself (weight goes up with muscles). Also you need to calculate how long this would take, based on the loss of 10kg where your losing 0.22kg per week then it would take you about 45 weeks. Which is just under a year, which acutally is not bad! I hope the above maths equation makes sense. Whatever you do, do not stop eating. It will ruin the above calculation as it will change your metabolic rate. Also you should not try to loose more than 500 calories per day. I would stick with 250 calories lost per day as its easier to maintain and alot better if you gradually decrease weight! Anyways good luck, keep the motivation going, weigh yourself each month and see if your on target!! ps-if you don't understand certain parts of the maths just ask.
  7. I watched this video and don't think its real. Having a coitus relationship with someone under the age of 16 is illegal in the UK as at that age your not considered competent enough to give consent. In this case as the man is 25 it is considered rape and child would be proof of that. Also another thing everyone keeps saying its terrible but lets say it was a real story....then why did not the girl have a termination? Obviously she wanted the baby. In which case she wanted all that is happening...unless something happened against her will its not terrible and its nothing more than a marriage to someone of a different religion which you cannot complain about as its discrimination to do so. If it is really against the girls wish she could leave him now etc. In my opinion she wants to stay with him and its not a case of how people are making out that it was forced upon her.
  8. Why were you crying about the world being temporary...did you want it to be permanent? So what if our family will die, every single person in the world is going to die, instead of being sad about it we should be thankful for everyday with them. Same with you friends you are missing you can try to find them....facebook is great for finding people. About you missing India....well you went on holliday, even I miss my holllidays.... I don't think your really sad/depressed....you just need a different perspective. Let go of everything being fake.....accept it and just live through it. You should be happy you know the truth because now you can make better decisions.
  9. Oh man this reminds me, I was on you tube and thought it was fun to type in SIKH girl. And randomly this video popped up. I really liked it http://www.youtube.c...h?v=q3jpSuR60vQ
  10. I think its the way your tying your joora. I know what you mean about your joora being long and up, I seen people's and back in the days sometimes mine used to go like that but then I flattened it. What worked for me was doing a braid and then doing joora.... because braided hair takes up less space than just grabbing hair and twisting it. Then when you do the joora don't just wrap hair around each other.....do the joora in a knot style..... Also to stop being loose...try to keep the pagg kapra in place.....the way to do it is to kinda hold first kapra from all edges whilst at the same time making sure your first larrs are happening to make it secure. After first larrs its all easy so get foundation right and keep the larr tightness going. Also after trying joora...you could try flattening it with your hand, I used to do that back in the days because sometimes I got it wrong. But now its all fine, its literally is only about one thing - practise! Also you'll loose this long thick hair by the time your like 20 so only a few years of this weird pagg problem...I wish my hair was still long!
  11. I'm in London, I go to uni here and if you want to talk PM me. I also happen to live very close to Shepherds Bush Gurdwara. Thankfully I couldn't be bothered to do Seva in the Gurdwara so have no idea about anything and who is on the commitee. Here is a stepwise of what you should do 1. Call the police and get it logged as assault. This doesn't mean he will be found as guilty but they have a duty to question him. If possible give his home address so his wife will find out when when the police knocks on his door. If you give the gurdwara address, he might not be there and the rest of commitee will stick up for him and say something like your making it up and the police will believe them. So definately give his home address where he gets slated in front of his wife and kids. 2. Call a lawyer and say you want compensation for emotional distress 3. Go to your doctors for emotional stress treatment 4. Your unlikely to win as no witness and no evidence. Is there any way you can get evidence....If all the people who have had it happen too then its likely police will do something....so maybe you all can contact each other 5. Also write a letter to your MP about the guy being on the gurdwara commitee and yuo are concerned and shouldn't be allowed as risk to young children There are other things you can do (PM me so we can talk about the case abit more as I will need to ask you a few more questions about circumstances, relationship, age etc)
  12. Everything PJS said is correct. End of school is dasmi pass (10th grade) but in India if you fail your exams you have to re-do your year again. Most kids start age 7, so if they do not fail they should finish school aged older....
  13. I want to say to all the posters in Gupt: Guru Ji loves you and nothing else matters!!
  14. Unfortunately not Veerji, is that you in the pic - looks very very different from the one you had up about 2yrs ago!
  15. Thanks barfi is my favourite too. Yum. Yes not sure about why we are in this world. Scientifically its because of our parents. Religiously people will say to meet God. Its all rather confusing, only thing that makes sense is that everything we have around us will go and vanish. We will go, our family will go, our money will go. Everything will go so how do we live in a system where everything goes and to what level do we interact and I think thats where Sikhi comes into it.
  16. Maybe the best people to ask would be the people who have done a Sikh wedding like those in th epic and find out what they thought went well, what they would change next time etc. I personally understand that its supposed to be a simple affair focussing on real meanings rather than the superficial display of gold, clothes (that you will never wear again), lots of guests (half who you don't know) etc. So a sikh wedding would be the opposite - ie a gathering of satsangat, close family and friends done in simple manner focussing more on Guru and Bani.

    Hair

We all feel a bit crap at times. Just because you have bad experiences, it shouldn't make you a bad person. Think of it as this way, your being treated badly because of your hair. Other people in the world are being treated badly because of their skin colour. In both siutations whats happening is unfair. You know nothing is wrong with the skin colour or the hair. Now let's pretend you could change your skin colour - would you change it? Deep down you know nothing is wrong with the colour so isn't it better to keep it and prove that? If you study history people stood up and changed views. Sikhs are undergoing a similar phase. You need to keep it to prove nothing is wrong with it because as soon as you cut it people will think you knew your beliefs were backwards and now you have been 'educated' and can see the light and this will encourage them to think negatively towards Sikh. Most of us are the first people to come through and so we must educate and not fall into traps. I know it would be easier if someone else had been the first and done all the education but as we're the first, we have to do it otherwise no one else will. Another problem is that 1st generation Sikhs are not well estabilished. So parents do basic jobs like taxi driver, bus driver, work in newsagent etc. So your socioeconomic status is low and people are not going to listen to your ideas because you are a nobody. At the age of 12-14 the best thing to do is keep your hair, do well, get yourself a good job, become rich and then you can advocate and the same people will look up to you and they will listen to your ideas and tell you how much they respect you and admire you. Also remember at school kids are brainwashed, everyone wants to be cool, and for them being cool is like looking like the media so it probably hurts when other mona sikhs are so prejudiced. But when they grow up they will realise how they were wrong and trust me they will think about you and may even tell you how wrong they were.
  20. Yes, I think they should. The most annoying ones are those that say they have taken amrit and then don't cover their heads and on top of that pluck eye brow hair, use hair thinning creams and feel they are sikh as they have long head hair. Then you have the types that try to make their Dastaar 'cool' and those who have bits of hair coming out of their patka.... I have seen loads of 'weird' things going on, Once I saw a Penjee wearing a dastaar with dangly clip on earings and brown contact lenses :S If you ask me, complete lack of understanding and they are brainwashed like the rest of the world about appearance.

    Pesh Asap

I am not Amritdhari so have no idea about the PESH so I am going to throw a spanner into the works. People go to pesh to admit mistakes and be punished. This is known as negative conditioning. Which basically means the next time you think of making the same mistake you will think twice or more. Now to do this there must be a level of trust between the panj and you....only you know if u trust them.
