  1. veerji, i apologize if there was any misunderstanding. My asking for a private room to conduct the screening was in no way a "bow-down" to authority, or any indication that I am being intimidated, or being a wimp. It is simply for the reason that you mentioned in your post. I prefer that the screening not be done in full view of the general public, because, as you state, everyone stares at you as they go by, as if we are terrorists. I don't cause a scene, I don't raise my voice, I don't get upset with the TSA agents, I simply state to them that I will perform the pat-down, but I require a private room for that to take place. No one (other flyers) is the wiser to what is happening. bhul chuk maaf
  2. not 100% true veerji. When I travel in the US, I always ask for a private room to conduct the patdown. Mind you, I don't travel alot, but I can confirm that Miami (MIA) and San Fran (SFO), and a few other smaller airports Buffalo (BUF) etc. have not had a problem with me requesting this. What they do is bring a second agent (as a witness, i guess), and will take you to a second private room, and you can perform the pat down yourself.
  3. ^^ 5 Takhats are most definitely on the list ji. I am also looking for the smaller gems of Punjab. I would like to spend a few months in Punjab, and thus hope to be able to visit as many places as possible. I would prefer not to rest until I get back.
  4. :waheguru: I need to experience my Punjab. I have been to Punjab twice in my short lifetime, sadly, the last time was almost 15 years ago. I am hoping to be able to visit Punjab sooner rather than later, and I am now beginning my research. I would like to focus my trip on Punjab (India and Pakistan), to see the beautiful landscapes, etc. and places of religious significance. I would be greatful if my fellow sisters and brothers would be kind enough to help me in this regard. If you had 3-6 months to visit, where would you go? The lesser known/visited gems will be given higher priority in my list. P.S. No disrespect to anyone, but I am NOT interested in visiting anything outside of Punjab, UNLESS it has religious significance. Thank You!
  5. I have a copy of this magazine and can confirm that it is a beautiful read. Brings tears to my eyes, reading about the pyare that is shown by the shaheed Singhs when performing selfless act after selfless act.
  6. i am not british, hence cannot complete the survey, but I have forwarded this to my cousins (and asked them to forward on to other Sikhs) in Britain, hopefully they will be able to assist.
  7. is the recording available online? i am interested in watching. Thanks!
  8. for those that are willing to take on a challenge, follow the website (diybookscanner.org) and build a complete scanner. this device holds the book upright in a V shape (not facedown) and is designed to be used with two cameras, one taking a picture of the page on the opposing side. for someone that will be digitizing numerous books, something like this will save enormous amounts of time, and make the job much easier to complete.
  9. with most/all hosts that provide unlimited, there is always fine print. basically, you get unlimited storage for the websites that you are using, within reason. they will probably not be very happy if you start backing up all your computer hard drives onto the site for example. realistically, i dont think it should make a difference for you. how much stuff will you possibly host on your site? you may have videos etc. but its not as if you are going to run a site that serves tons of video/audio such as keertan.org or other websites that have gurbani and katha files. justhost.com should be more than suitable.
  10. could anyone kindly record the program for me? i can provide a ftp site to upload the video to please, I am in Canada, and it seems that we have BBC Canada, but dont get all the regular BBC One programming, and my parents are very interested in watching. Please PM me and I can provide the FTP username and password. Thank You Very Much!!
  11. Veerji, I think your example is not exactly what TejiKaur was referring to. Having men and women sit on different sides is in no way disrespecting either, or saying either is inferior to the other. The "segregation" that you are referring to is to maintain a calm, quite atmosphere in the sangat, and allow one to immerse themselves in the kirtan/gurbani without distraction. Bhenji (TejiKaur), it is with great embarrassment that I read your story. It is very sad that these thoughts and actions that women are inferior and belong in the kitchen etc. still take place, even after our Guruji has told us that man and women are equal. Please do not let it get you down, and always remain in Chardi Kala spirit.
  12. If you want to keep things easy, try something like Joomla. It's an opensource (free) "Content management system". Its pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it, and there are a lot of plugins/extensions that you can use (free and paid) to add additional functionality. There are extensions that allow you to add videos and pictures etc. really simply to a page, without tons of coding to go along with it. Many hosting services offer Joomla (or other similar software) that can be installed through the hosting control panel. www.joomla.org
