  5. Do you really think that akaaaal purkh vaaheguroojee is gonna look at whether your head is covered or not when you do nitnem? Doing nitnem is a personal thing you should do your nitnem daily to try and merge your soul with akaal purkh and not worry about such things, when doing your nitnem cover your kes or don't cover them, its your choice, finish your nitnem then sajaa your dumalla with two or three keskis and a vaddi dastaar on top.
  6. Some of these "goray singhs" take their kakaars off while doing fun things, which is totally against gurmat, punj piaare tell you that you must not part from your kakaars especially not if you're going boating, etc. I certainly hope the people boating don't call themselves gursikhs because gursikhs don't take off their kakaars to do such things, and the kid smoking while kirpan on is just absurd. This in no way relates to 3HO as a whole, but the mindset of alot of goray singhs/singhnia.

    This Girl

Kush sharam kar, do you think its appropriate to ask this kind of question to sangat? Do you think you can ask the same question to Guru Gobind Singh Sahib? Don't read bani/do simran just because you want to be with this girl; that's absurd. You should be doing bani/simran so that you don't get such thoughts about this girl. Complete your university education, and once you finish then get married, this will definetely distract you from your sikhi as well as your studies.
  8. hmmm, I thought Baba Zorawar Singh jee and Baba Fateh Singh jee attained martyrdom by being bricked alive? And it was Baba Ajeet Singh jee and Baba Jujhaar Singh jee who were martyred on the battlefield.....
  9. Guru Gobind Singh ji. Please read the rules before posting.
  10. That just left me dazed and confused. I skimmed through it, but there's little or no information as to your beleif all I saw was words that I've never heard before, maybe you might want to get your people to edit that. Thanks for the links though, it just makes me appreciate Sikhi that much more.
  11. Its good to wish others a merry christmas or eid mubarak or happy divali but its another thing to celebrate it yourself
  12. God's postman is a nobody, he just asked me to deliver the message to you, so whats your reply tubelight? In case you're wondering, I'm getting everyone's reply and I will send it all together......
  13. Naamdharis are no different than Nirankaris (narakdharis). You should do your research before telling others. Its sad to see your family is associated with Narakdharis because they have done nothing but bad for the khalsa panth. Hukumnama Against Nirankaris by Sri Akaal Takht Sahib On October 6th 1978, a Hukumnama bearing the Seal of Sri Akal Takht Sahib (by the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib) was issued, calling upon Gursikhs all over the world to socially boycott these fake "Nirankaris" and not to allow their faith and creed to flourish in the society. This Hukamnama was prepared by a committee comprising of the following:- Giani Gurdit Singh Ji Giani Lal Singh Ji Giani Partap singh Ji Giani Sadhu Singh ji Bhaura Sardar Kapur Singh Ji Sardar Parkash Singh Ji Sardar Satbir Singh Ji Through this Hukamnama, all Gursikhs were asked to stop "Roti Beti Di Sanjh", food and marital relations, with the fake Nirankaris. And the sevadars of SikhSangat.com won't allow any pro-narakdhari posts on SS as per hukam of Sri Akaal Takht Sahib.

When we do paath of Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee, we read about Ajaamal Paapi at quite a few places. Here is a brief story of his life. Hopefully this will help us understand baani better. Ajaamal was born to a Raaj Purohit and a high caste within already high caste of Hindus i.e. Brahmins. Raaj Purohit means the main pujaari of a kingdom. A Raaj Purohit is like the head priest of a kingdom and the kings refer to their raaj purohits for any questions on religion. Ajaamal was brought up in a very religious atmosphere and was provided with Sanskrit education from early age. By the time he reached the age of maturity, he became well-versed in all 4 Vedas, 18 Puraanas and other important religious books of those times. His father was a man of high probity and integrity. He used to admonish him against doing paap karams (sins). He further told him to never go in the southern part of the city because that part of the city was full of scoundrels and prostitutes. Innocent Ajaamal who had not been exposed to any evil in his life felt his curiosity getting aroused at the mention of the Southern part of the city but he continued abstain from going that route. He got married to a beautiful and good-hearted woman. They had a couple of children and led an uneventful life till his father died. He was then appointed to the post of Raaj Purohit. His life continued in normal fashion until that fateful day when he had to go to the southern part of the city. It was probably his destiny to go to that part of the city. He was on horseback and as he approached the inner city, he came off his horse and parked it by the tree. He started walking on foot and reached that part of the city where there are brothels and pubs. He had never been exposed to such scenes. There were women standing outside the brothels luring customers in. He was taken aback at such open display of Kaam. Then one woman, who knew all the chalitters (wiles of seduction), looked at Ajaamal with such a look that Ajaamal got stuck right there. His feet won't move any further. Then she without speaking, just with a hand gesture, asked him to follow her. She was a young and promiscuous woman in her early twenties. He resisted but could not resist for too long. Finally he gave in to the temptation and started walking behind her. That day changed his life forever. He became a regular visitor to this Ganika (prostitute, bad woman). Soon others found out about his double life. His wife pleaded with him to stop seeing the prostitute but he would not listen. Everyone was wondering why he could not leave this prostitute and what wrong did he see in his beautiful, homely and good-natured wife. When the king found out, he was quite upset at Ajaamal but wanted to give him a second chance out of his respect for Ajaamal’s father. He tried to persuade Ajaamal but soon found out that Ajaamal was not going to stop seeing the new woman. Ajaamal was spending his money very recklessly and in order to protect his legitimate children and wife, the king decided to banish him from his kingdom. He confiscated all his property and gave it to his wife and children. Thereafter he banished Ajaamal and the prostitute from his kingdom. Great calamities befell on both Ajaamal and the prostitute. They moved out of the kingdom and starting leading a very destitute life. Ajaamal was left with no money, and now had to work very hard to earn his living. He used to cut wood from jungle all day and sell it in the city. He started gambling, drinking and doing other bad things. He and his mistress used to fight endlessly and had a lot of children together. The poverty took its toll on Ajaamal and he became old before his age. He got infected with many diseases and suffered a lot. He and his mistress had several children together. Ajaamal had to work very hard to feed his new family. When Ajaamal hit old-age, his body became very weak but he had to work to feed his family. He sometimes used to regret his decision but it was too late to go back now. He knew that no one would accept him back. Anyway, later in his life he had a son and the day his son was born, some saadhu jan (holy men) came to his house to seek refuge from bad weather. Ajaamal out of his good Karma, did sewa of those Sadhoos. The Saadhoos had ridhi-sidhi and sensed that Ajaamal had led a very terrible life and that in the next world he would suffer badly in the hands of Jammdoots. Before leaving they had mercy on Ajaamal. They noticed that Ajaamal was totally entangled in the attachment of his family and because of his bad Karma, he could not do any bhagti. They knew that if he did not do bhagtee i.e. Naam jaap, he would suffer in the hands of Jammdoots. They finally came up with an idea. They told him to name his latest born son "Narayan". Obeying what the saadhoo said, Ajaamal named his son - Narayan. We should remember that Narayan is one of the qualitative names of God. Ajaamal became very fond of his son and lovingly called him "Naraayan Naraayan" all day. By this time, his diseases overpowered him and he lay at deathbed. As he lay in his bed, waiting for death, he still had moh for his youngest son and kept calling him lovingly "Naraayan, Naraayan". Saying "Naraayan" seemed very good to him and said more and more of "Naraayan". He felt good saying "Narayan Narayan". When his death time came close, Jammdoots started visiting him and he could see them approaching him. The sight of Jammdoots greatly terrified him and out of fear, he called his son Narayan by name. He kept saying “help me Narayan, save me Narayan”. As the Jammdoots approached him, they realized that they could not reach him as he was saying God's naam (kirtam naam, not satnaam i.e. Vaheguru). Jammdoots could not get close to him but his end was fast approaching. Ajaamal just kept calling his son Narayan and jammdoots totally became helpless. By this time the good angels (devtay) came to get Ajaamal. The Jammdoots and the angels started having debate on who was to take him to the next world. This debate is highly interesting and is written in great detail in Sri Madd Bhagwat Puraa. Anyway, the angels reminded the Jammdoots that whoever does Kirtan or recites Naam, jammdoots are not allowed to catch them. The Jammdoots went back to Dharam Rai, their master and Dharam Rai confirmed that whoever does Kirtan or Naam, Jammdoots are not allowed to get near them. This dialogue of Dharam Rai is recorded in Gurbani as follows: JAH SADHOO GOBIND, BHAJAN Kirtan Nanak NEET|| NAA HAO, NA TU, NA SCHOOTAY, NIKAT NA JAAYEEYO DOOT|| (O Jamm doots, where ever the Saadhoos of Gobind-Vaheguru do Kirtan (singing praise) or bhajan (meditation on Naam) of Vaheguru, never ever go close to that place. If you violate this, then neither you nor me would be spared of the punishment) In the end jammdoots could not reach him and he was taken to the next world by devtaas (good angels of heaven). Gurbani says this very clearly that whoever says name of Vaheguru in the last moments of his or her life, does not go to jammdoots. So Ajaamal, who was maha-paapi, went to heaven (heaven is much lower than Sachkhand) instead of going to hell, as he would have if he was not reciting his God’s name. If kirtam naam (qualitative naams that describe one or more qualities of Vaheguru) can have so much affect, imagine how great and powerful the true Naam that Guru Nanak Dev jee has brought to this world would have. Let us learn from this saakhi and make naam integral part of our life as breathing is. Here are some of the pankitis from Gurbani that allude to Ajaamal’s story: AJAAMAL PAAPI JAG JAANAE, NIMAK MAAHE NISTAARA|| (The great sinner Ajaamal, whom was notorious in the whole world, was delivered by Vaheguru in one instance) AJAAMAL, GAJJ, GANIKA, PATIT KARAM KEENAY|| TAYOO UTTAR PAAR PARAE, RAAM NAAM LEENAY|| (Ajaamal, the elephant and Ganika did many bad Karma but by taking Naam, they swam across this ocean of world) AJAAMAL KO ANT KAAL MEH, NARAYAN SUDH AAYEE|| JA GATT KO JOGISUR BAANCHAE, SO GAT CHHIN MEH PAYEE|| (Ajaamal realised the Naam the greatness of Naam in his last moments. He received such honour in few moments that great Yogis attained in many years of penance) Daas, Kulbir Singh

Lacking truth and humility, they shall not be appreciated in the world hereafter. -Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 1245 We are immensely blessed in this age where we have access to immense sources from where we are able to get attracted to Gurbani (Guru Granth Sahib Ji). The internet is awash with several wonderful websites from where we can dowanload as much Kirtan and Katha we can to satiate our appetite for listening to and singing the Word of the Guru. Included in this is the bliss of getting to listen to some of the most blessed voices by inviting well-known and popular Ragi Jathas from around the world. Not only do they bring to us the message of the Gurus through their soothing and vairaag-filled vocals, they also inspire our coming generations that get a taste of the sugar-sweet Word of the Guru that turn around our life and destiny, and help focus our conscious towards the one Akaal Puarkh. houmai vich gaavehi birathhaa jaae In egotism, they sing, but it is wasted uselessly. A sudden, but gradual, turn that is taking place is beginning to cause an opposite effect. To attract Sangat, some Gurudwaras around the world are inviting Ragi Jathas that are popular with the masses and even instruct them to avoid talking about facts about Sikhi that majority of Sangat do not like (no wonder they cannot be called Sadh Sangat). This is what corrupts our Ragi Jathas when many of them place a price that determines whether they accept the invitation to travel to other countries to sing Gurbani Kirtan for the Sangats there. There are only a select few of Ragi Jathas who have no lust for money as they are awake to the pricess message of Gurbani. Besides money, some of them engage in contests of whose style, voice and subject is better. The sole purpose of Gurbani Kirtan is to attract the soul to the nectar of Naam, as singing Kirtan itself is not Naam, it leads to Naam if what is sung is being understood and absorbed. In the Shabad above, Guru Amar Das Ji makes it clear that all these Rehn-Sabais and Kirtan Darbaars we hold for show are simply wasted. Only those that love the Naam are able to sing the true Kirtan, GuruJi continues to add in the same Shabad, as (through love for the Naam), they contemplate the True Bani of the Word. According to GuruJi, only through Naam Japp can love be cultivated. gaavan gaavehi jin naam piaar Those who love the Naam, sing the song. saachee baanee sabadh beechaar They contemplate the True Bani of the Word, and the Shabad. gaavath rehai jae sathigur bhaavai They sing on and on, if it pleases the True Guru. man than raathaa naam suhaavai. rehaao Their minds and bodies are embellished and adorned, attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Guru Amar Das Ji exposes those that perform devotional worship only to show off and reveals to us that only when our ego is subdued (dying in the Word of the Shabad) can will our devotion be accepted in the Court of the True Lord. That is why those Ragis that perform Kirtan for the benefit of heavy monetary returns have little effect on the Sangat, because that kind of Kirtan is all a show and is not drenched in love for the Divine. It is a different matter when Ragis must earn from Kirtan as that is their way of life, but some fall down to greed and ego and all their efforts and means account for nothing. There is a difference between devotion and singing. For many Ragis, they are singers, not devotees (of Shabad). Often, they do not even realise their quiet ego when they attempt to impress the Sangat with their voices. Even the Sangat are not aware that they go to the Gurudwaras simply to entertain their ears; if it wasn't so, they would not need to wait for a popular Jatha to come to listen to Shabad Kirtan. More often than not, our own resident Gurudwara Ragi Jathas are not recognised for their service (and gift) when they sing Gurbani Kirtan every single day. As soon as the visiting professional Ragi Jathas are gone, the Sangat at the Gurudwara dwindles. Many people are rarely seen at the Gurudwara as they come and sit for two hours only when their 'favourite' Jatha comes calling, who in return seeks their dimes. Kirtan was meant to be a simple and humble way to connect to the Shabad and today we have so many different instruments to turn it into music. Kirtan is not music to please the ears, but to penetrate the soul through contemplation. People have begun to compete for tunes and the best voices. I was taken aback when I read a Kirtan competition some time back . . . how can Kirtan (praises of the one Lord) be turned into a competition which must have a winner and a loser? What a fall we have taken, to bring Kirtan down to our petty levels, even if such contests are to help bring out the best in us. That is not the purpose of Kirtan. Kirtan is meant to teach us come closer and closer and closer to the True Guru so that we can develop love for the Divine. Our dilemma here is that we cannot say much to Ragi Jathas that come to our countries only if their fee is given. The Gurudwara committees manage to raise the fee (through Sangat's offerings) only because that will guarantee that their Gurudwara will attarct more Sangat than other Gurudwaras. Then these Gurudwara committees rarely allow these visiting Ragis to hold diwans at other Gurudwaras until a formal request in writting is made to them and acknowledged in the Sangat. Even some Ragi Jathas have become timid in speaking out the real message of Sikhi and have to sugar-coat their parchaar, otherwise they would not be allowed to step in the country again. This rot is having a reverse effect on the Sikh Sangats as the numbers continue to dwindle. A moorakh like myself considers himself a beneficiary of the visiting Ragi Jathas as I get to listen more and learn more about Gurbani which further helps me to develop Divine Love. But what of the youth, who find no message from the professional Ragi Jathas who come to collect dollars and fill our ears with tunes, rather than the message of Shabad? Many of these youth, end up chatting in the parking lots of the Gurudwaras while their parents sit inside. But who can speak about this Cosmic Play? How can an unworthy one like me even judge anyone, as I have still a long journey ahead of me? But through this Play, the Merciful Lord teaches His child what true Kirtan of the Shabad is. When I notice a flaw in someone, the flaws inside me stand out taller, and that helps me to silence my discriminating mind so that I can work on my own. Just how Waheguru works His Ways, we probably will never understand, but we can learn from what happens around us . .
