  2. I think before saying anythign that could be hurtful we should try to make sure we know the person well enough (though we shouldn't be saying hurtful things in the first place). I think SimranKaur is new to sikhi and is of German decent. So While the question may seem humorous to us, It is not to her.
  3. British legal system did not go out and find this family. The family found the court and as such the court has to make a decision based on the law of the land. Personally, I think sons and daughters should be given equal part in the estate. It is not fair that women do not have equal rights to their brothers when it comes to parents estate especially it is the daughters who end up taking care of the parents most of the time.
  4. Only Five, I agree with your solution that wheelchairs should be provided and not permanent chairs so it is clear who the intended users of the chairs are. However, I don't think you can easily shove the car comment back to my face. Guru ji came and met sangat from kabul and did their seva before the sangat reached Amritsar (http://guruarjandev.com/sangatkabul.htm). These people were not disabled but had travelled a long distance. Imagine what our Guru ji's would do for a disabled person. So yes, Guru ji would have provided carts for disabled people. However majority of the time it was the family members of the disabled person who would take them to see Guru ji in their family cart so no carts were needed.
  5. I think everyone is aware of who hindu punjabis are and we do not allow caste discussions. Topic closed. Also, just because your username has Hindu in it, does not mean all your topics have to be about hindus.
  6. 300 years ago, desis used to ride on an ox cart. How many people do you see doing that now days? Lets all give up cars because 300 years ago this was not an issue, people still used to go from A to B. Sikhi is very simple but we make it complex. It is a very welcoming religion, no one is excluded through caste, religion, disability, financiall well-being or other criteria but we always find ways to exclude people who want to be Sikhs . If the issue is of someone being at the same level as Guruji then even with chairs the indvidual is physically lower than Guruji. I think disabled people feel bad enough not being able to sit on the floor like everyone else, they don't need anyone else to make them feel worse. Where is the compassion? Kattarpuna (Fundamentalism) has no place in Sikhi.
  7. Why don't you apply and tell them that you are interested in Sikhi and it would be a good opportunity for you to learn the punjabi culture. Beaware though, typical Punjabi/Sikh families don't always practice Sikhi properly.
  8. This is more to do with your windows permissions. I am going to guess that you either have Vista or Windows 7. Try adding your current user to the folder's security permissions or usually you just need to elevate your permissions when you are prompted. If all else fails log in as the user who installed the STTM software and then try to copy.
  9. Guys and girls, please remember what our Guru ji's were like. They were the kind of individuals who would not hesitate to wipe the feet of holy saints with their beard or to do seva of sangat who was visiting from kabul or other places. Whist we must maintain satkaar of Guru Granth sahib je, we must also remember the satkaar of Sangat because Guru and Sangat are the same. if a disabled person came to see guru ji and could not sit on the floor then do you think Guru ji will mind that person sitting at the same level as Guru ji? I think, benches, lowered floor are all good compromises as long as Guru ji's palki is still higer.
  10. Only approved this topic because author must have spent hours writing it. If anyone does wish to reply then please keep it to the civil. Finally to the author, please do not post any more topics related to this issues and discuss things just in this topic.
  11. Most likely a gurughar made by members of Bhatra caste. Sadly, this shows the worst of people involved. Usually, the people who instigate such things are people in position to afford to pay. £10 is not a lot to pay but in my town its £25. That is still ok but that is £25 or compulsory membership for anyone aged 16 or above. Here are the three issues which make people give up their membership: So if you have 2 sons and you then that is £75/month for membership. Some people cannot afford this if the kids are not earning anything so parents have to pay. If there is work required on the gurdwara or lets say the a new building needs to be purchased every member has to pay in the region of £500 - £1000+. Again go back to a single family with 3 members who have to pay this amount and the kids are not earning anything. Final reason for people giving up membership is that people don't agree with the things that go on at the gurdwara and are unable to do anything because of the GANG culture that exists. So once someone decides to give up the membership, then these individuals (almost acting like the mob) start these tactics. Someone above said that, youngsters are bad at giving money and our elders were good. I disagree with that, I think the elders concentrated on building caste specific gurdwara and that is where the problem has started from. In my town we have two gurdwara sahibs, both caste based. I go to both and know that if they were together then things would be so amazing and both wouldn't be short of cash or space. My personal opinion is that people nowadays can afford an £35/month IPhone contract easily so should be able to pay £10 - 25 to the gurdwara. However coercing them into donating is against Sikhi and makes the individual go away from Sikhi.
  12. I don't think it will be as simple as that. Once someone has received a lot of (10) negative reputation points then whoever is about to put them under quality control will look at some of their posts to see if the user really needs to be put under qc.
  13. You should take two tissues and fold them (one for each ear). Then put one side of the tissue behind your ear and the other covering the top of your ear. Then Tie your keski over them and you shouldn't have any more cuts.
  14. The answers to your questions are very simple, the real question is do you want to hear them or are you just asking the questions for the sake of asking? First answer: You could have said,"Friend, God has also blessed me with hair" Second Answer: Find me a religion that does not have ceratin things disallowed and I will give you the answer from Sikhi pov.
  15. you are basically setting up an agency which will deal with cleaning services. First of all, you shouldn't worry. This is no different to a farmer who employs work force to do the work. The farmer may end up doing the work himself or just act like a manager. From a sikhi point of view i think this is fine. Work is work as far as cleaning is concerned it is a lot better than quite a lot of modern businesses. Finally, I hope you know what you are doing because the cleaner's shouldnt be paid directly. The client should pay you and you should pay the client. With your current business model, how would you prevent people from going direct with the client? How do you know how many hours a cleaner has worked at a client? Also make sure you have insurances etc as you may be liable if a cleaner steals something from your clients. Finally, Good Luck with your business.

  17. While you guys were on Muslim websites and forums. Few confused Sikhs visited this site and didn't find any inspirational stuff and left more confused.
  18. Things can not always be black and white. There is not always the blue pill and the red pill. What I am trying to say is, why choose one or the other. You are saying let 1984 go, I am saying remember it more so that it doesn't get repeated again. Remembrance is not the same as hatred. Practically all my friends are Hindus, so should I blame them for 1984? People who say forget 1984 have vested interest. It is usually a politician sucking up to non-Sikhs. Every Sikh adult and child should know about 1984 and all Sikh sacrifices. Majority of us have not done anything for 1984 victims and their families and probably wont ever do anything either. Therefore the decision to forget can never be ours.
  19. calm down, why do you think only Amritdhari's should do this. Anyone who is a Sikh should be stopping beadbi of Guru ji. If our own people hate amritdharis then how do we expect the no of amritdhari's to grow? Girls are prevented from taking amrit because parents think that it will mean they will have hard time finding a match. Guys are preventing from becoming amritdhari because parents think it will prevent them from finding jobs etc. So I think you should not make this an amritdhari issue but a panthic issue which all sikhs should be concerned about.
  20. The skin has been changed. We change the look and feel every now and then. The site allows you to select a different skin by going to the bottom of the forum (At the home/index page) and then selecting the appropriate skin from the drop down.
  21. So I have a friend who is Hindu. He believes in a certain puratan sant whose organisation is very big in India. My friend was telling me that their swami has sikh followers who come to the mandir and have tilaks etc and their swami told them not to cut their hair. My question is that, if a sikh man start following someone other than our Guru ji's, then should he fully convert? In my opinion they should, having Sikh saroop and then following Christian church , sants etc gives a wrong impression and serves as an advertisement for the particular belief. What do you guys think?
  22. I think this issue needs to be highlighted, just made it sticky. Please spread the word, this is not good news. How is Maharaj's parkash going to be carried out?
  23. Terror attack in Mumbai: PM vows 'relentless pursuit' of perpetrators http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/terror-attack-in-mumbai-pm-vows-swift-justice-for-victims-119393 The Prime Minister vowed to "relentlessly pursue the perpetrators" saying, "They must be brought to justice quickly and be subject to the rule of law that they have sought to subvert." Did something happen in 1984 because I don't know if such comments and vows have ever been made about 1984?
  24. Fateh All, Papi Built a PC few months back so I figured I will do the same and post here for advice. I need a new desktop machine which can run VM's or allows hardware based virtualisation (probably the same?). Basically, I want to be able to create virtual machines with different OS's and software installed on them and still be able to use them so each machine will have a good amount of ram and cpu cores. I need this for testing software like sharepoint etc. Now that you know the core requirement here is the budget. £1000 is the budget. I have found this processor: http://ark.intel.com...t.aspx?id=52585 top of the range I think, Intel® Core™ i7-990X Processor Extreme Edition (12M Cache, 3.46 GHz, 6.40 GT/s Intel® QPI) I think I can pick one up for around 350 GBP. Please recommend the configurations based on the requirements. I want to be able to run atleast two VM's concurrently. Balait
  25. Seen the Parkash done during kirtan samagams many times in India in fields and plot of land. Dont think this is much different however I don't like the idea of Guru ji having to go places because of someone's programme. If the couple want Guru ji's blessing they should really make the effort to meet their Guru.
