  1. With the Grace of Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj a new, edited version of Gurbani Da Adab (Respecting Gurbani - The Word of the Guru) has been printed and will be released at the bhog of the Akhand Paath Sahib on Saturday. It is imperative that ALL Gursikhs attend, take lahaa and most importantly equip themselves with the knowledge of how to keep satkaar of Gurbani. The booklet was first released for the celebration of Guru Sahibs 300th anniversary of their Gurgaddi Divas in 2008. 2 years on, sevadaars have edited the booklet to increase awareness and respect for Gurbani so that another tragedy like Bow doesn't happen again. May Guru Sahib give us the sojhi to appreciate them in every form.

If someone has set fire to our beloved Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and his son just talks and doesn't do anything, does he have the right to call himself a son of that Guru?" (Sant Baba Jarnail Singh Jee 'Khalsa' Bhindranwale) www.NeverForgetBow09.co.uk Gurbani Satkaar Smagam - Remembering the Harley Grove Gurdwara Sikh Sangat, Bow Tragedy '09... ONE YEAR ON Thursday 18th - Saturday 20th March 2010 @ Mata Sahib Kaur Academy, 8 Oaks Lane, Newbury Park, Ilford, Essex, IG2 7PL Sri Akhand Paath Sahib Arambh - 5pm - Thursday 18th March 2010 Bhog - 5pm Saturday 18th March 2010 (Followed by Rehraas & Aartee til 6pm) Katha & Keertan Divaan til 10pm -------------- On the afternoon of Monday the 16th of March 2009 a fire broke out in the Sachkhand room of Gurdwara Sikh Sangat, Harley Grove in Bow (East London) which ended up engulfing the whole Gurdwara Sahib. Over 10 fire engines and 50 firefighters battled for over 6 hours to bring the fire under control. The fire destroyed over 75% of the Gurdwara Sahib complex; the Sachkhand room where the fire began was completely destroyed. The most painful consequence of the fire was that 11 blessed Saroops of our beloved Satguru, the light of the Ten Guru Sahibaans, the Jugo-Jug Atal Eternal Satguru, Sahib Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji were burnt along with countless more Gutkaa and Pothee Sahibs. With heavy hearts Sevadars from across the country gathered together at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur Academy and worked day and night on the daunting Seva of preparing Satguru Ji's saroops for the Sanskaar (cremation) ceremony. It brought tears to the eyes of all the Sevadars and anyone who had Darshan of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji's Saroops; to see how the Angs (limbs) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj were crumpled, burnt and blackened because of the fire, and dripping wet and ice cold due to the water damage. Under the guidance of Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib an Akhand Paath Sahib was carried out at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur Academy and the Sanskaar Seva took place at Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College Chigwell. Sangat from across the country came to pay their respects and witness their beloved Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji's Sanskaar ceremony being carried out. Yet sadly out of 500,000 Sikhs that live across the UK, only 1,000 – 2,000 people gathered for the Sanskaar ceremony of Guru Sahib Ji. We must ask ourselves the question where were we on this painful day, and also out of the 500,000 or so people who claim to be Sikhs of the Guru was it only 1,000 to 2,000 people who were affected by this devastating attack upon our beloved Satguru Sahib Ji? At this sad time we must reflect upon our relationship with Gurbani and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji; we must ask ourselves whether we as a Panth stand by and follow the command made by Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib, Guru Granth Jee Maaneo, Pargat Guraa Ki Deh || Realise that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the eternal embodiment of all the Gurus. Saadh Sangat Ji now is the time to bring those words uttered by the 10th Master 300 years ago into action in our Gurdwaras, communities and everyday lives. It is only 300 years since Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji commanded all Sikhs to accept Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as the eternal embodiment of all Ten Guru Sahibaans, it is only just over 30 years since 13 Singhs laid down their lives defending the respect of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in 1978, and it is only 26 years since Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji endured the bullets of the Indian Army for our sake in 1984... Yet we forget their sacrifices every moment of every day! It is the first time in history that such a devastating attack has been carried out on a Gurdwara Sahib outside of India. An attack on Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is an attack on the very foundations of Sikhi, it is an attack on the whole Sikh Panth; an attack on the Gurus house is an attack on our house. The fateful day of March 16th 2009 should be remembered by all Sikhs, and by the world, as the day when Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj sacrificed Their physical form in order to wake up the Sikh Panth. Just as Sri Guru Arjan Sahib Ji sacrificed their physical form by burning in boiling cauldrons, standing on the burning hot plates of the prisons of Lahore whilst red hot sand run down their divine body and eventually passing into the icy cold waters of the river Ravi; just as Sri Guru Teghbahadur Sahib Ji marched to Delhi in order to sacrifice their physical form to protect righteousness and truth, just as Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji sacrificed their entire family for the cause of justice, in the same way Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj has sacrificed Their physical form 11 times in order to awaken the Sikh Panth from its slumber which has lasted many years. Guru Sahib has sacrificed themselves through smoldering fire and icy cold water 11 times in order to awaken us – if we refuse to awaken now how can we call ourselves Sikhs of the Guru? Sant Gyani Jarnail Singh Ji 'Khalsa' Bhinderawale once said... "All of you Sikhs, living in the villages and the cities, youngsters, those who call themselves Sikhs, why have you fallen asleep? If someone has set fire to our Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and his son just talks and doesn't do anything, does he have the right to call himself a son of that Guru?" Sant Ji's voice of truth echoes through our ears to this day – how can we call ourselves the sons and daughters of the Gurus when we close our eyes to the disrespect of Gurbani and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji which takes place almost daily in our community? Are we going to fall back into a state of unawareness and carry on letting Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji's respect and authority be questioned and undermined again and again? Treating Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji with complete love and utmost reverence has always been a part of Sikhi. From the day that the first compilation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was complete Sri Guru Arjan Sahib never sat on their throne or slept on their bed again, rather they gave up these comforts and instead enthroned Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji upon their Throne and Bed; for the rest of their life whilst Sri Guru Arjan Sahib Ji sat upon the ground and slept upon a single white sheet. We should learn from the example and Sri Guru Arjan Sahib Ji and we should endeavor to stop Beadbi (disrespect) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and divine Gurbani wherever it is taking place, whether in our homes or Gurdwaras, or in public places such as in libraries. We must forever remember the immortal words of the 7th Master Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji, Jin Bhae Adab Naa Baanee Dharaa | Jaanoh(u) So Sikh Nahee(n) Hamaaraa | He who has no fear or respect of Gurbani. Know that he is not my Sikh. We must all take the pain of this episode in our history into our hearts and into the very core of our being as a Panth. This means going into our local Gurdwaras and ensuring that the respect and sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is maintained on a day to day basis. Is Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji accompanied by at least 5 Singhs when going from one location to the next? Is the Sachkhand room of Sri Guru Granth Sahib big enough to accommodate all of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji's Saroops? Are the Rumale washed on a daily basis? 300 years on and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji's wisdom and loving guidance still provides an eternally shinning beacon of hope, truth and love. It is time for us to realise that the key to our salvation lies in Gurbani. We must join together and unite to ensure that the Divine Gurbani of our beloved Guru Sahibaans is not being thrown away, vandalised on wedding cards, exploited in newspapers or being disrespected through our own unforgivable negligence. One year ago only 1,000 people turned up to Sanskaar ceremony of the Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji – a year passes on... Please join your brothers and sisters to remember and reflect upon the events of last year and to pray for the help and support of Guru Sahib Ji whilst remembering those difficult times at Mata Sahib Kaur Academy from 18th March till 20th March 2010.
