  1. Since when have we started the race for becoming the "largest religion" in the world???? Remember it is not the quantity but the quality that counts.
  2. Come on....stop this India Govt bashing and think beyond it.....Embrace the reality of the situation....
  3. Remember...lets not complicate religion...Religion is very simple... Religion is a particular process to remember God..thank him and do good deeds. So in my view, there is nothing that stops a sikh marrying a non sikh...only remember that either of the partner should not force their religion on each other...it is just like telling the other person that my religion and my way is the best and you have to follow it. If the other person willingly on its own feels that the person wants to convert into sikhism, then it is okay...but dont force them. Our Gurus didnt force people to convert into sikhism...We are not in a race to become the biggest religion in the world. The only complication that arises when a sikh marries a non sikh is that when you have children, then what religion will they follow. The sikh and a non sikh combination is very different as Sikhs dont cut hair while non sikhs do cut hair....so naturally if you ask a child about what religion they want to follow, then naturaly the child will pick the easy way out i.e. non sikh, so that they dont have to bother looking after the hair. Following sikhism require dedication, true understanding and true love towards Waheguru.
  4. why do we care...if they want to be known as a separate kaum...let them be... lets all concentrate on our sikh religion...we cant force people to be part of our religion. lets worship/remember waheguru in the way we want....and let us allow them to do it their way
  5. This should be a good example to all those who keep on harping on Khalistan. When you cant even run a Gurudwara properly...when you cant even run Punjab properly , with all the sikhs in power.........how can you expect to run a country ?
  6. "Shame on UK Sikhs - 60% of them don't care 1 bit about the Khalsa Panth, future of Sikhi or the state of our community as long as they have a roof over their heads a nice car and tv they don't give a damn, not surprsing since the majority are lost and are not bothered about Sikhi, parents including children.Mark my words when their families are beaten or even killed back in Panjab then maybe just maybe they will start to care about the panth and the state it is in,right about now they don't care ,- even forgot the genocide of the last 25 yrs.Only those with PANTHIC DARDH support Sikh TV Channels and radio stations the rest have no Panthic Dardh and are ungreatful." Some questions to ponder on before saying "shame on UK Sikhs" a) Why is a channel started without even thinking/estimating the cost that it will take to run the channel? b) Why cant the trustees of the channel explore commercial ways to sustain the costs - like advts? c) Why is there a need to have three sikh channels...when you can pool together all the three channel resources and start one channel? d) Has the channel studied other faith channels like Muslim ones, Christian ones....They have numerous channels...How do they sustain themselves? e) Has any check been done on the expenses of these channel...are they making any unnessary expenses like travelling costs ?
  7. Why is there always an emphasis to teach people in English...Why cant the younger generation take the step and learn punjabi and Gurmukhi. They can easily learn and are excited about learning other languages like French, Italian etc...but when it comes to Punjabi they put up the lame excuse that they are not ready to learn this and it is the Gurudwara's job to translate everything in English.
  8. In my view, lets not keep on bringing the 1984 episode everytime....I agree that it was one of the crueliest thing against sikhs, but then lets move on now. Lets just learn from this and be careful and more stronger in future. Please lets not keep on bringing this or having special programes to mark the day. Lets just join together and do something for the sikhs rather than just bringing up this everytime. I am sure people are going to pounce me on this, but sincerely if we dont forget the past, we will never move on. We should forgive the sinners. This is humanity.
  9. Hi...Thanks for your questions...See I am still a "murak" insaan and I am still learning. And the best way to learn is to do the sangat of learned people and get their views. I was listening to Giani Sant Singh Ji Maskeen katha one day where he mentioned that the best way to chant waheguru was to do it slowly so that the lips say that word and the mind listens and feels it. He also showed how to do it. And believe me it really sounded very soulful and peaceful. So when I recently noticed some Ragi Jathas doing that very fast, so a natural question came into my mind as to what could be right way. So thats why I started this forum. I was merely asking for other people views on it...I did not want to start a controversy over here on this topic or get personal with others. I personally do the waheguru simran quite slowly by feeling the word. But again I have understood from other people's view out here is that there is no right or wrong way. But again I admit that I am not a good sikh as I don't do it regularly or for a fixed number of hours or at a particular time. Again quoting one of the katha of Giani Sant Singh ji Maskeen...he mentioned that the best thing about our religion through ancient times has been that we don't force our views on others but have a honest discussion about things..Guru Nanak Dev ji challenged the old mindless rituals by having discussions with people and showing them the right way. He did not get angry with people but he did that in a nicer way by going into the basics and by giving them practical examples. We should carry on that tradition of going into the basics and questioning ourself as to how we can improve things. That was all my moto...as I said I am still a learner and was just trying to understand other people views. I thank you all for your answers. They are much appreciated and eye opener for me.
  10. A very similar post i saw on sikhnet forum also. Did you post it there also? Hi...No, this is the first post that I have posted...did not know that a similar one was posted in sikhnet forum also. Will read that one as well. Thanks
  11. Thank you all for your views...All your views does make sense and I can see your view points. The whole idea of this post was to get other people views...and it has been successful. Thank you again
  12. " You should perhaps doing more simran rather than making topics like this. God isnt only exclusive to the people who do simran the way you do. " I didn't say anywhere that My way is correct !!! Please For God sake read the words carefully before jumping to reply....If you read my words I only mentioned..."I think" I only invited your views on the method of chanting Waheguru...I didnt ask you to get personal by commenting on what I should do... By the way I dont need your advice as to what topic I need to raise...if you are not interested ....please just dont reply. "Stupid example, jus because they say it "slowly, nicely" doesnt mean they actually mean it. " Please be careful with the kind of words you use out here...I haven't used such words like "Stupid" and won't be accepting such words.... Please maintain your basic decency while replying to posts...
  13. Sorry Praji coudn't understand what you meant by that .... If I understood you correctly then you mean that chanting Waheguru in any way is correct? I think it is not about what one feels good but what should be the right way. Let me explain this in a different manner. For eg, a person joins a construction company as an Engineer. He is given the job because he has to build a 10 storey office complex. This building has to be built as per the Govt Regulations. But the Engineer thinks that he can do whatever he feels is "Good" rather than the right way "to follow the Rules". So he builds only 8 storey office complex and that too by using sub grade building material. Now does this mean that he did the right job? No...because he his building was not built in the correct manner that could stand the test of time....because he felt that whatever he did was "good" does not mean that he did it in the right way. I hope I made my point clear. Waheguru is a way to say thanks and remembering God.....Just imagine your brother/son saying thank you to you...Would you like him to say that in a repititive non stop manner and very fast or would you prefer the person say it nicely, slowly by actually meaning it?
  14. Sat Sri Akal, I am wondering if anyone can let me know where I can get/buy the audio or video recording of the kirtan that Bhai Harban Singh Jagadhari Wale recently at Smethwick Gurudwara on 26th Sept 2009. I watched it on sikhchannel and really liked it I have done a google search but can't find it. Regards
  15. Sat Sri Akal everyone....I have recently noticed that in Gurudwaras, the Raagi Jathas chant Waheguru name in a peculiar manner...i.e non stop without taking a breath and chanting very fast. My personal view is that Waheguru should be chanted in a slow manner by feeling the word from inside and concentrating. The way the Waheguru name is chanted by some Raagi jathas, it just reminds me of Hindu rituals of chanting a name non stop without feeling for it. Chanting the name non stop and very fast seems as if we are playing a game as to how long we can chant something before we loose the pronounciation. I think the whole idea of chanting Waheguru is to focus on the Almighty and says thanks in a nicer way rather than saying thanks very fastly. Please share your views with me. Regards
  16. They would also be visiting the Hitchin Gurudwara. Check out the website http://gurdwara-of-hertfordshire.org/
  17. Why are they getting angry at you? if you are comfortable then please share that with us and we will try to help you out... Inspiration: Hey, if they are getting angry at you for no fault of yours....then don't care about it....This is life ...ups and downs do happen. There are two ways to deal with this problem: No. 1: One can do some self pity and become sad No. 2: Clear your mind and think about how you can better deal with the situation It is natural to feel sad or down when something goes wrong....but then one should then pick one self up and then with renewed energy face the world. At this stage I dont even know whether the reasons for people getting angry with you is for a justified reason or not i.e. I mean did you do something wrong for which they are angry with you? But hey...cheer up...these things do happen...these things make a human being much stronger...Remember these words...Pressures converts Carbon into diamon...pressures makes diamond, much harder than stone and they only get finer as times goes on and on. So buddy now cheer up and face the world .... Hope that helps
  18. Hardkaur ...you have vented your feelings :-) .....I really liked your idea of starting a matrimonial website Btw in my view your comment about "you must be from India" did not seem quite right and politically correct...it might offent people as it shows some kind of bias towards Indian people. The reality is that no two humanbeings are the same ...even if they live in this country or in some other country. My advice for you is that even if you want to make your view point, make it in such a manner that it does not sound rude or offend anybody else. Everyone is entitled to their views and I understand your view point as well. I think Amrit79 was only joking. London...chill out...marriage things do take time...as long as you are clear on what you are looking for, you will definitely get there....it might take some time but believe me one day you will get what you are looking for. But my advice is that one should not to cut the hair and move away from sikhi just for the sake of getting married or just in case your prospective partner asks you to do so. What would one answer when the Guru will ask "you just got diverted from me and sikhi just to get married". And I do agree with you that it is rude not to reply to text messages or e-mail. But keep on trying...if she doesnt reply back after a couple of times, that means that she is not interested..sometimes people find it difficult to refuse in person and try to use techniques such as avoiding contact. So if there isnt a reply after a couple of times, assume that she is not interested and don't bother her with more texts or messages. If she is genuinely interested or have been genuinely busy then she will contact you. And one thing for sure, do give space to the other person in a relationship. It is quite important to do so because otherwise there will be frequent quarrels as expectations will not be met with. btw check out my previous message that I wrote on your discussion thread about getting married in India...I did give links to different newspapers where Indian people advertise for matrimonial purposes. All the very best.
  19. Nice name :-) BTW Are you a big fan of paneer?

  20. I know this might be out of context, but I thought that I can help you out by letting you know of a good place to buy reasonably priced Protein and other stuff. All my friends buy it from this website. Also this website also tells you the difference between protein isolate and protein whey. http://www.myprotein.co.uk/ BTW, don't think that I am a promoter of this website or I am getting a commission !!!! :-)
  21. This might help a bit ...On this website on the right hand corner, there are some sikhism videos/movies link http://www.sonapreet.net/
  22. Hi, I have a question. Is there any website that gives details of the various kirtans or events taking place in different gurudwaras in UK? I do go to the websites of different gurudwaras to find out if any sikh kirtan or samagams are being held but sometimes either these websites are not updated or have some errors. I was wondering if there any such website which has a comprehensive list of various programs for different Gurudwaras? Thanks for your help on this Regards
  23. Hi, Read the article in this link http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/compare-cheap-car-insurance This person Martin Lewis always gives good tips on how to compare insurance and save money. His prog also is aired on TV as well. Last year I followed his advice. I first utilised the search engines given in the above link and then found the cheapest quote which came to around £400 Then I registered myself in a cash back website (we promise to website) as suggested in the above link. I then searched for the cash back amount that my selected insurance company would give me through this cash back website. I got a £50 cash back. So in essence I paid £350 for my insurance rather than £400 The only thing to point out is that the cash back website takes around 2-3 months to credit the cash back to your bank account. At first I did not trust the wepromiseto website but since then I have utilised this website to buy lots of other stuff, like changing utilities companies, buying dvd on HMVs etc etc and then have always given me the cash back. I'll suggest read the article first and then if you are comfortable then follow the steps that I mentioned. I hope that helps
